[asterisk-users] Asterisk cluster and call pickup

2011-05-25 Thread Vinícius Fontes
I'm planning to migrate 500+ extensions from a legacy PBX to Asterisk. Some
will be SIP, some will be DAHDI FXS.

I want to deploy a load-balancing cluster using DUNDi with regcontext so all
servers will know where to find all extensions. DAHDI extensions will have
their dedicated server, SIP extensions will be spread out on 3 different
servers.

Now I'm wondering how would call pickup work on that scenario. Is it possible
(maybe with distributed devstates) to pickup a ringing channel on a different
server? Or is there a different way to load balance while keeping call pickup
functionality intact?

Any input on this is very welcome. --

[asterisk-users] Asterisk Cluster Scenario

2010-09-25 Thread Stefano Sasso
Hello folks,
my company has experience in setting up single asterisk setup, but
recently one of our customers asked us to set up an asterisk cluster,
that must be High Availability and Load Balanced.
So I wrote here to have some hint or advice about the configuration we thought.

First of all I'll explain you the scenario:
The asterisk cluster must serve as Call Center "Hub-and-Spoke". There
are lots of little call-centers (~15 ops), phisically separated, that
must appears as a single "Big Virtual Call-Center". The call-center is
inbound and outbound.
Initially the "Virtual Call-Center" will be composed of 15 small
call-centers (= ~230 ops), but the prevision is to grow to ~800 ops.

Asterisk must work as B2BUA, because the customer does not want the
call-centers contact directly the upstream SIP providers. Asterisk
server must also record the call and, maybe, do some transcoding.

The single asterisks instances talk each-other with DUNDi/IAX2 to pass
the calls from an op to another op registered on another server.
We'll use a mysql database (NDB cluster) to avoid to have multiple
sip.conf files with the registration informations (asterisk-rt).
We must, in any case, use asterisk, because the whole call-center has
to be integrated with a 3rd part software for predictive calling ad
power dialing which has been developed for asterisk.

The SIP servers are behind NAT, because the customer want to use only
one public IP address; every asterisk server will have a different RTP
port range to avoid rtp conflicts.

And, for now, the LB part works manually registering the ops on
different asterisk servers.
But now we have to achieve the HA part of the setup.

We started considering a SIP hardware load balancer, like Radware or
Brocade, but neither a single nor a couple of this equipments (HA,
remember?) do not fit in the customer budget.
So, we started thinking about use OpenSIPS (formerly OpenSER) as a SIP
load-balancer. (the customer has server hardware that could be used
for this, and we will use VRRP for redundancy).

In the OpenSIPS features we read "load balancing with failover", but
we could not find any useful and complete configuration example.
Is OpenSIPS able to know if an asterisk server is UP or DOWN, or must
we use a 3rd part tool, like mon?

Anyone has experience in use OpenSIPS as SIP load balancer (not to
work as "real" SIP proxy)?

Any hint/advice for this part, or for the global setup?

Thanks in advance for the help!
Stefano

PS: sorry for my weak english
PS2: sorry for cross posting but, if the general setup is more
asterisk related, the OpenSIPS part is, obviously, OpenSIP specific.

Without knowing exactly what you are trying to do beside having at
least 500 outbound calls, that would be impossible to say. I mostly
use a home grown HA Linux configuration (CentOS, cman, MySQL, GFS2)
with Asterisk Realtime. I would use what you know, as long as it
scales to what you need. If it doesn't, then I would get someone to
help that has a solution.

In this scenario, does Asterisk still touch every RTP packet? Or can 'native

Your up front cost is going to be a little higher with TDM -> SIP
devices, but your management will be a lot easier.

AudioCodes also has equipment that can support a DS3 connection, or
multiple T1s directly to SIP.

For example, If you are getting 22 T1s then get two AudioCodes Mediant
2000s with 16 spans (maxed out) or two Mediant 3000s with 21 spans.
If you are getting a DS3, get a Mediant 3000. The M3000 supports up
to 84 T1s or three DS3 or one OC3.

Then leave call management up to Asterisk. Of course, have redundancy
everywhere you can.

If you're not doing G729 or other LBR codec (or encryption, or echo can with
long tail length, or other high level
requirement for RTP processing) then you should not need a DSP based solution;
server based processing should be
sufficient.

I don't know what you've done for your smaller deployments. Different
people have different opinions.

My personal preference, if this is United States:

DS3 -> Adtran channel bank, break out PRIs
PRIs -> multiple Cisco PRI->SIP appliances. A 3845 maxed out can do 24
PRIs. I recommend using two and splitting load for capacity /
failover.
Using pure SIP between the gateway appliances and at least two

Re: [Asterisk-Users] Asterisk cluster and astdb

2005-12-03 Thread Script Head
This is correct, astdb isn't stored in a database and essentially your
scenario with astdb file being shared won't work or will be highly
unreliable. I am almost sure there was a patch in circulation, alas I
didn't find it in the bug tracker.

I am using RedHat cluster management suit on
Enterprise edition AS3

Origianally, astdb was located on native hard disk of
each server.
All my end points are configured for Reinvite=Yes

Everrything was working fine and if active server is
rebooted, the standby would take over and the ongoing
calls will continue without any problem.

But this had a problem that the astdb file is not
updated with latest end-point information and phones
dont get a call untill they re register.

To avoid this, I moved the astdb file on the shared
storage and created sym links from individual servers.
Now, when the active server is rebooted, all the
active calls are dropped.

Please help me in resolving this.

Why don't you use Asterisk RealTime?

correct if I'm wrong (frequently) but the call state isn't stored in the
realtime db is it?

linux-ha uses a form of shared disk called DRBD that might solve this if
you forced the astdb onto that. Only one node of the cluster is
currently allowed to write to astdb on that though.

Doing what? IVR, ACD, passthrough, transcoding or not?

Depends on what they need to do. Iirc Signate has an SGI box that takes
10,000+ calls. See http://www.signate.com/pdf/TelephonyServer.pdf (I've
no affiliation).

For load balancing SER comes to mind. The number of Asterisk boxes
depends on the application. If you get your calls via PRI's I suggest
exploring 2 MaxTNT's each with DS3/GbE interfaces and a lot of
redundancy.

Patrick

 Inbound calls?

 Outbound calls?

Zap channels (TDM) ? SIP channels? IAX channels?

There's a good number of questions that need to be answered before one can get to an answer on your original question.

Hello,

I'm going to need to take up to 10,000 simultaneous calls on a
single number. I'm going to need lots of * boxes to do it.

How many * boxes will I need, and how do I load balance the calls
between them?

Hello,

Is it possible to run Asterisk in a cluster?

OpenMosix or other cluster software.

Thanks
