Re: [asterisk-users] ztdummy: rtc: lost some interrupts at 1024Hz.
I remember having that issue once and I fixed it by changing a configuration in the motherboard BIOS. It was related to the SATA hard drive mode it was running on. The default configuration was set to legacy mode I believe and when I changed it to enhanced mode the lost of interrupts problem I was having went away. I had a Supermicro motherboard in case you were curious. Remi Quezada Giorgio Incantalupo wrote: Hi, I'm getting crazy about ztdummy. [asterisk-users] Ztdummy and Asterisk
Hi again, Thanks for your answer, Stefan. In fact, ztcfg is automatically running from the startup script. Anyhow this seems harmless and not the cause of the problem. I have confirmed this with two other Asterisk servers, both having a zaptel card installed in them, but one running the same Debian Etch OS as the troublesome machine, and the other one running Fedora Core 6. In both cases I restricted the zaptel modules loaded to just ztdummy and modified zaptel.conf in order not to configure anything. Then I restarted zaptel and attempted to start Asterisk. In the first case I obtained the same error message as I reported before. In the case of the machine running Fedora, Asterisk started normally (and it's worth to say that ztcfg does also automatically run in it). So it is apparent that the problem involves Debian. Greetings. Aldo Sudak On Sat, Nov 01, 2008 at 11:03:09PM -0200, Aldo D. Sudak wrote: Loading zaptel hardware modules: ztdummy. Running ztcfg: done. Hi to all, Thank you Dobry an Tzafrir for your answers. I agree with Tzafrir in the sense that ztdummy needs no configuration. Moreover, the .conf file generated by genzaptelconf does not contain any configuration at all for ztdummy (tonezone and defaultzone are the only uncommented text in it). I must also say that I have tried again with the current versions of Asterisk and Zaptel, with the same result. So I'm still wondering where the problem lies... DTMF is still properly received. If the ztdummy module is unloaded, sound playback works again. Here is my version zaptel-1.4.9.2 linux-source-2.6.18 asterisk-1.4.18 Can anyone tell me how to fix it? Or should I just have ztdummy removed forever and the system will work? I saw from manual that ztdummy is required. Re: [asterisk-users] ztdummy, zttest
Well, I got it working. Come to find out that it looks like version 2.6.18 of the kernel has issues with the RTC. It has little to do with any of the other things that I tried. I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.23.1 and on the first try, it comes up and runs with TSC. ztdummy is working for me now. I used the oldconfig to update the kernel from the debian 2.6.18-5-686 and compiled. Runs well. Hello, Today we setted up a server that needs to use MeetMe but doesn't have any Zap hardware. So we need to use ztdummy (at least, this was our idea). Rarely: zttest is not working at all (100% bad, using zttest -v doesn't give anything, etc.). Of course, after load ztdummy, there isn't any background or anything. It is the same kernel (Debian Etch default kernel, 2.6.18) than other machine that is working. CPU is a HP, Pentium 4 (same than other machine), even I loaded the same bristuff than that machine (who doesn't have any specific hardware, now). I couln't make zttest (well, ztdummy) to run. I tried different versions of bristuff+asterisk, I also tried to load and not load zaptel, qozap. Nothing. I got an rtc "Warning" message, something like "some interruptions has been lost at 1024Hz" (aprox.). Any clue where to check? USB modules are the same than other machine... We was completely confused about it (how to fix, I mean). Re: [asterisk-users] ztdummy, zttest
Debian as well as everyone else 2.6.18-5 Zaptel is branch/1.4 latest. The issue is not with Zaptel though...IMHO. If you look at /proc/driver/rtc, I find: rtc_time : 14:34:27 rtc_date : 2007-11-12 rtc_epoch : 1900 alarm: 16:30:31 DST_enable : no BCD: yes 24hr: yes square_wave : no alarm_IRQ : no update_IRQ : no periodic_IRQ : no periodic_freq : 1024 batt_status : okay If you notice, there is no periodic_IRQ. That is the issue. To me (and the kernels reported here) it is a Debian kernel problem. If I turn off ACPI, Zaptel works, but the box performance is awful because other things, which depend on ACPI do not have interrupts. I have read some places that if you have the Hard Drive Suppend in the BIOS enabled, you will get this situation. However, I would check the /proc/driver/rtc to see that you have periodic_IRQ. Re: [asterisk-users] ztdummy and BackGround
Yes, but if you didn't need MeetMe it would be silly to try to diagnose it. I suspect ztdummy is loading correctly, but the system is not generating interrupts for ztdummy sync to. Traditionally ztdummy used a USB interface to get timing, but at some point I think it switched to using the kernel RTC if available. I don't use ztdummy -- I'm just recalling what I've seen on the mailing lists and IRC over the years. Tony Plack wrote: We are going to implement MeetMe, but this should still work right? I've seen something similar happen before, and it was due to having drivers for cards loaded that were not in the system. Try removing all modules (including ztdummy), then loading ztdummy. Re: [asterisk-users] ztdummy and BackGround
Good try, but no. All that was loaded was zttranscode and zaptel, but I did unload them. Here is what is loaded after I rmmod zaptel (and verified with a lsmod) Module Size Used by zttranscode 7656 0 ztdummy 5032 0 zaptel183396 1 ztdummy My revision is 88329 I've seen something similar happen before, and it was due to having drivers for cards loaded that were not in the system. Try removing all modules (including ztdummy), then loading ztdummy. Re: [asterisk-users] ztdummy and BackGround
Well I cat /proc/drivers/rtc and get rtc_time: 15:48:35 rtc_date: 2007-11-02 rtc_epoch: 1900 alarm : 16:30:31 DST_enable : no BCD : yes 24hr : yes square_wave : no alarm_IRQ: no update_IRQ : no periodic_IRQ : no periodic_freq : 1024 batt_status : okay I am wondering if the periodic_IRQ is needed and a freq of 1000 based on what I read about zaptel. Not sure. Therefore you can either recompile your kernel adding RTC support, or modify ztdummy source. Try commenting out the instances of #define USE_RTC (add // before it) in zaptel.c. Stopping the zaptel drivers does not work properly, but I only need this for rebooting... You don't. You don't need to unload the zaptel modules before rebooting. make config installs both a start and stop entry for me. /etc/init.d/zaptel stop unload the kernel modules. I don't see the point of trying to do that even if you switch runlevel. The error just looks ugly when rebooting, but it's not really an issue of course. Re: [asterisk-users] ztdummy does not load properly at server startup
Replying to Theo Band's post. Please don't use HTML mail... Matthew J. Roth wrote: Theo, Unless things have changed significantly in the newer releases, you must load zaptel prior to loading ztdummy. Additionally, the zaptel devices are not created instantly, so after you load zaptel you must wait a few seconds before loading ztdummy. You can perform some sort of polling if you want to script this, but a less sophisticated method is just to sleep for 10 or 15 seconds between the calls to modprobe. If your goal is to start Asterisk automatically at boot, some init scripts for different distributions are available at http://svn.digium.com/view/asterisk/branches/1.4/contrib/init.d/. I'm using Fedora, so I installed 'rc.redhat.asterisk' with chkconfig as follows: # install -m 755 ./rc.redhat.asterisk /etc/rc.d/init.d/asterisk # chkconfig --add asterisk # chkconfig --list asterisk asterisk0:off 1:off 2:on3:on4:on5:on6:off The make install already did that for me . Note that I made the following customizations to the script prior to installing it: * I don't want to run safe_asterisk, so I comment out all of the lines that reference the SAFE_ASTERISK variable. Not using safe_asterisk is a good idea. * I want to load ztdummy and raise the open file limit, so I add the following lines to the start() function immediately prior to the 'daemon' statement: modprobe zaptel /dev/null 2 /dev/null sleep 15 modprobe ztdummy /dev/null 2 /dev/null ztcfg /dev/null 2 /dev/null As you don't need ztcfg for ztdummy, the only line you need from the above four lines is: modprobe ztdummy Or use the zaptel init script. If it finds no zaptel timing source it modprobes ztdummy. ulimit -n 65536 /dev/null 2 /dev/null * And add the following lines to the stop() function, immediately after the 'RETVAL=$?' line: rmmod ztdummy /dev/null 2 /dev/null rmmod zaptel /dev/null 2 /dev/null With the latest zaptel init script, you can simply use it (once the modules unloading fixes are in place). But then aghain, there is no harm whatsoever from not unloading ztdummy at system shutdown. Yes it works indeed thanks. It turns out that (for me) the modprobe ztdummy alone works as well. I do get an error message as shown before, That's because of the bogus setting in /etc/modprobe.conf that runs ztcfg needlessly on the time of the load of ztdummy, and because uev is slightly slow in creating the zaptel devices (the init.d script only runs ztcfg after wait_fot_zapctl). but both ztummy and zaptel get loaded and Meetme() works. The 15 seconds delay would add to the boot time You can avoid all of that sleep (or at least most of it) easily. -- Tzafrir Cohen icq#16849755jabber:[EMAIL PROTECTED] +972-50-7952406 mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.xorcom.com iax:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/tzafrir ___ --Bandwidth and Colocation provided by Easynews.com -- asterisk-users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
