I have built 1.6 without issue. just be aware that in the 1.6 that ships
with astlinux (1.6.2.7) if you are using SIP trunks you may run into a bug
that seems to be occurring a lot. and that is you will after a while get
an error "address family not supported" and your outbound SIP trunk call

You can pick the packages you wish to install when you "make menuconfig"
(Asterisk 1.6 is one of the options), I haven't tried to build 1.6, but the
options there
