Well I have an Echo as well and that was completely independant for me to set up and I don't have a talking thermostat although that would not be a bad idea, however mine does well, and with my hearing problems, I don't think it'd be too wise to have one

I use the Talking Universal Programmable Thermostat 3000, it does require that a sighted person install it, but after it is installed, it is fully accessible without needing anything else like a smart phone app.I also have an Amazon echo, since it is 99% voice
