Re: GUI in C and Screen Reader Accessibility

@8It's technically workable in the sense that if you want to learn another screen reader and are lucky enough to have the X server work with Orca it's probably fine.  But that's the same kind of technically workable as you can drive the car with someone telling you when to turn the wheel, or something like that.  Fortunately, unlike other remote desktop solutions, X servers are semantic--they don't just send "draw this line"--but unfortunately for you the expertise to get them working accessibly, if it can even be done in the first place, is few and far between.

Re: Generic windows forms accessibility for generic screen readers

I'd suggest NVDA and Narrator as your test, and then let people using other screen readers report bugs.  I know that many shops have gone that route, though I don't  have specific examples offhand. There is no standard.  The accessibility APIs aren't screen reader specific--for example they're also for one-switch controllers and dictation solutions.  Also, there are literally 50+ settings in each screen reader that can change behaviors in one way or another.  My advice is either be prepared to keep up with the maintenance, or don't add properties to controls (i.e. just use a standard button, standard checkbox, etc).  It should be possible to do UIA or something if you use a screen reader yourself, and have an at least okay experience on others, but if you're actually approaching this from the perspective of a sighted programmer trying to work it out, it's probably best avoided.Jaws, NVDA, and Narrator will cover 90% of the market.  NVDA and Narrator probably covers 40-% to 50% of the market if not more at this point, and is also what lots of places use to test with, since no one really wants to buy all their frontend devs licenses for Jaws.  On the whole and as someone who has done some Aria stuff and who is considering doing a virtual GUI library at some point for game devs, "I test with NVDA and narrator and will work with you on bugs if you use something else" hits all my ethical due diligence boxes.

Re: Bookrage's choiceofgames reviews

a second look at "Choice of the vampire" hello all, I would like to make a few short comments on "Choice of the Vampire," as I have replayed it a few more times since my review. I think my review is still a proper assessment of the game's merrits and demerrits, but I would like to make a few comments on what I have realized since then as I have played.I said that the chapters were not easily divided and there were very few of them. This is true but having played a number of different playstyles through this story now, It's a result that the story is in fact quite branching and that some parts of the story even send you to different geographic locations based on what you choose to do.Second, I encourage you to play with a variety of creators, although some parts of the story overlap depending on what you choose to do, some interactions throughout the story are very different and varied based on who you choose. Languages also matter and the story has a pretty good handling of skills and languages you possess. My last game was a sort of game where I didn't learn English until towards the very end and almost missed that opportunity too and that lack of English wasn't a mere cosmetic inconvenience either. I think that the game still focusses on lust too much and there are times where it seems to really ham-handedly force changes in your actions whether you want to or not, but the game has a much more varied amount of choice and differences based on playstyle than I belived at first.I am going to review my list and if this game is below "Choice of the Star Captain" I'm probably going to have to swap their positions. Coming soon, "A Second look at "To the City in the Clouds"" which will include a full review as I realize I did not provide a sufficient one last time, mostly because I didn't realize that the game was short in length, but quite broad in scope within the short and not too numerous chapters.

I was able to make a little bit of progress in the second game's story by randomly wandering the open world map and randomly jumping and hitting things, but nan that takes a ton of patience. It's not just the gates you need to unlock and open either, around the world are scattered chests with stuff you might miss wandering around blindly. I think at one point I just got fed up with wandering around and called in my brother to help.

Previously, I'm sorry, I used Google Translate, so the names of the fruits and drinks are different from what is in this game.Share less unpleasant experiences.I bought 240 oranges, and 48 bags of sugar.I have carefully calculated that 240 oranges and 48 bags of sugar would be enough to make 48 gallons of orange ice.I buy a lot so that there are lots of supplies so I don't have to buy more often. Then after that I sold it to the park, where an event was held. There are 60 customers who buy, plus there are some customers who buy again because they like my orange ice recipe.I also got around 70 dollars.I think, customers who buy only 60 people, surely only run out of a few gallons, and there are still quite a lot of remaining ingredients. It turns out when I check my inventory again, orange and sugar only a few fruits left!Obviously I had a huge loss, because I spent almost 100 dollars buying all of the supplies.Actually how the mechanism of gallon calculation in this game? There is another experience. When I sold my orange ice at school, I was sure I only had 20 cups at that time. That is, I'm sure I will only sell 20 cups of orange ice.But apparently, I sold 50 orange ice!Why did it happen like that?I'm a little confused by the detailed mechanism of this game.

Generic windows forms accessibility for generic screen readers

2020-04-14 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : r3dux via Audiogames-reflector

Generic windows forms accessibility for generic screen readers

Hi guys,I've looked on this site for some generic windows forms accessibility tips, but not quite found what I was looking for. For example, the "Labeling controls for NVDA and/or any screen reader (solved)" post is good (https://forum.audiogames.net/topic/2803 … er-solved/) , but it's not solved outside NVDA. Perhaps if I explain the issue it might make more sense, I don't know if there is a good solution - but I can only ask.Let's say I have a button with the text "Run Selected Config" in SoniFight (and it just so happens I do). I've been testing using NVDA and it says "Run Selected Config" when that button is highlighted either by moving the mouse cursor over it or tabbing to it. All good so far.I don't have an details set in the AccessibleName or AccessibleDescription fields, and SoniFight is just a C# application using standard Windows Forms. Now, if I add something like "Run Selected Config" to the AccessibleName of the button then when it's highlighted it gets spoken twice in NVDA, that is, the text on the button and then the accessible name is spoken. That's not ideal. However, if I use the JAWS screen reader (I don't have paid version - just whatever 40 minutes they'll give me for free) then it doesn't say the text on the button OR the alternate text - and that's very far from ideal.I don't really want to test every screen reader on the Tolk accessibility list (https://github.com/dkager/tolk/) - but speaking the button text and the accessible name (i.e. saying the thing twice) is obviously stupid, but saying it zero times is surely worse - so I don't know what JAWS is up to or if there's a setting I should enable?Saying enough to be accessible is obviously the goal, without repeats, and without saying nothing nothing at all - is there perhaps a standard I should be trying to integrate with - like Windows Narrator or something? Or would that not be of use because you don't use it? Or if I use some format used by Windows Narrator it can also be used by commonly used screen readers? I'm genguinely at a bit of a loss as to how I can make things as accessible as possible in the best way possible.I'm sorry if these are stupid questions - I'm just trying to learn.Thoughts appreciated,Al

Re: News from Freedom Scientific

I'm sorry, @41, but the idea that jaws just works and NVDA doesn't is as outdated as the practices FS/whatever they call themselves today employ are dirty and underhanded.  NVDA may not work for every situation; I'll grant that from the get-go, but if you muss use JAWS your employer/workplace/company/school or other institution should be buying it for you given its price tag.  Outside of that, I don't know of a single situation where NVDA just, doesn't work, and those who perpetuate the concept that JAWS just works and NVDA doesn't are the same people who allow corporations like this one to get away with the price gouging.I find it interesting too that people will whine and complain and throw a fit about how companies like Apple charge far too much for their devices which, already come with a working and highly functional screen reader but allow companies like FS to manipulate and monopolize the market where windows is concerned.  Perhaps someone will shed some reasoning as to why this is perfectly acceptable and why paying for a device that just works out of the box is not?  Why, instead of paying hundreds if not thousands of dollars on a yearly basis are we not advocating together for equal accessibility and pushing MS to further develop Narrator which has seen improvements over the years, or giving more attention to NVDA collectively so that it does work for users the way they would like it to?  I mean, if its true that it doesn't work, the real question is, why is it not working?  That, is the question the JFW just works camp is not really answering, and saying "well, we're just used to it" is really only going to hold out for so long and does not encourage any kind of progress. For the record?  I'm not saying that jaws is bad.  JAWS, in its own way still holds a candel to NVDA, and NVDA users should respect and appreciate that.  without the innovation that JFW made throughout the years NVDA could not be what it is today.  It is, however, my belief that the users should be making the product, not the product shaping the users, and sadly, this is what I've seen for far too long where JFW users are concerned, who have allowed themselves to sit in a complacent bubble and let a monumental leader in assistive tech simply rip them off while ignoring the possibility that other options can, and do, exist!

@6It's just Linux remote desktop. You might be able to get Orca working with it if you use an X server from inside a Linux VM.But frankly, at some point I really do suggest just talking to the teacher unless you're in a country where they aren't legally obligated to accommodate you.  "You are asking me to do something entirely inaccessible, can I at least do this in my own VM" for instance--if you avoid the X server a lot of complexity goes away.

@magurp244 very nice of you to offer a code example. I offer one piece of advice because I too use pygame and have seen this happen when i turned my .py file into a .exe.pygame seems to have difficulty loading fonts when it has been compiled into an exe. If this happens, you will have to download a copy of the font, usually a .ttf file and linkt it to your code.for example: you wrote:    myfont = pygame.font.SysFont('Comic Sans MS', 20)you might have to download comic sans and keep in in a data folder which your code can access. Good luck on this project.

Personally, if FS gave the option of the cheaper home licence outside the US and Canada, which I was surprised to find out hasn't happened yet as it's been a good couple years now I think, I'd actually consider looking into it again.  For personal choice, if nothing else.  Also there are admittedly some areas which NVDA is somewhat sluggish on, namely office, where there are improvements, but it's still not up to where jaws was when I used it a few years back.  An earlier post did remind me of the horrific combination of a jaws licence and university networks though, which is why I switched to NVDA full time and haven't looked back.

Re: Input needed for planned audio football project

Can you explain some more on what you mean by attacking formations? At first i thought you ment the formations that are designed for attacking, but then now i realize you mean something else.On a 4-4-2 formations, and  on formations like 4-2-3-1, some teams have fullbacks that are aggressive, so when the team attacks, the fullbacks actually drop level with the 3 attacking midfielders, and widen themselves, and attack from sides.so on a 4-2-3-1 formation,  2 of those 4, leave the central defenders behind, leave their own 2 defending midfielders behind, go on level or near the three attacking midfielders, and  attack the box and try to cross the balls in from wide arreas.Do you mean in these kind of situations? If so, how should my data explain this, because as the formation advances, this  gradually happens.

Yeah, sort of figured IK Multimedia was on that list. Just hope I can sell their keyboard somewhere...I feel like there are some shortcuts on the Kontrol that I'm missing, like how to remove FX in an effect chain. Also, in reading the reviews for plug-ins on KKACCESS.com, the reviewer mentions how they're categorized by vendor into different sound banks. However, I can't seem to find that using the 4D encoder. Do I use the other knobs?

Re: News from Freedom Scientific

Hello guys. This is Sky Mundell, a new member from British Columbia Canada talking to you guys. I wanted to give my opinions on this, as I am a trainer who trains blind clients in the use of adaptive technology and screen reading incorperating NVDA, and JAWS. First, I wanted to start out by saying that NVDA is a fantatsic product and I use NVDA as my personal product. However, I have some things that I want to say about this. While I love and use NVDA and teach clients NVDA whenever I can, I am going to let you guys know that I have blind friends of mine who use JAWS, and they actually have tried NVDA, and some of them, if not all of them, always go back to JAWS even after giving NVDA a try. For instants, I have a friend who lives in California, and she has defenatly heard of NVDA, and her friends has heard of NVDA but the only screen reader they know about with JAWS. her friends and her know nothing about NVDA. I also have had another friend in Vancouver who attempted to use NVDA and she ended up going back to JAWS because it was what she was used to. NVDA for her, didn't seem to be reactive. For instants, it wouldn't work for her when she pressed the down arrow key, and she couldn't quit NVDA so she had to shut down the computer. In her mind, NVDA didn't seem to be that reactive to her and she was just so used to JAWS that she couldn't get to grips with NVDA. Even a lot of the professionals here have never heard of NVDA or think its inferior because in there mind, Why change to a cheaper option when JAWS works for us? So as you can see, the issue for those friends of mine isn't so much the cost, but rather what works for them. I still will continue to have huge moral problems with the licencing model and high price points of JAWS though but I do think that some of the advanced features, Text Amalyser, etc. could be put into NVDA, unless Vispero has patents on Text Amalyser and those advanced features that JAWS has that make it impossible for NVDA to have it. So, those are my thoughts.

Regarding manufactures to avoid, obviously IK multimedia is definitely on the shit list.Sonivox is not directly NKS-ready but there are nks presets for Film Score Companion. Even without those, though, the plugin is surprisingly accessible. You have to do a very small amount of ocr-ing to find what is either a standard windows context menu of instrument configurations, or a browse button for fxb presets. All other parameters are exposed in Reaper.

Re: rb farm is out

A little more advice from me:for the download link in post number 1, it is better to provide a link that opens the rbstudios.ml site, and not the game file download link directly. On that website you can provide information about the size of the game file, the progress of the game update as well as the latest version number that is available, as well as other important things about this game. Now this game is still small, because it is only the initial version. But in the future, this game will definitely develop into bigger right? For this reason, information about the size of the game file becomes very important when later the size of this game becomes larger. It can also be a good promotion for your website.Or other options,You can regularly edit the title of this topic and also post number 1 when a new version update is available.Of course that's so everyone can quickly find out if there are updates when they visit the new release page.Just a small suggestion,But the choice remains in your hands.

Re: Getting started with native instruments in contact player in reaper?

Honestly...wow. The Joshua Bellviolin is really good. I have the symrhony  essentials from NI that comes with komplete 12 Ultimate, so I'll probaly just stick with that for now, and Session Strings for legato parts. For pianos, I'd say that I am content with all of the pianos that NI bundles in, and I probably wouldn't need another piano, as there are like 7 different ones. I honestly don't really like pattern instruments (like phrasing instruments), as they never seem to have the right pattern that I'm looking for. Or, like Scarbee Funk Guitari' the chords I look for aren't available right off the bat.I'd really like to find a synth with a large, wide, fat monophonic lead, but I don't know enough about synthesis and   don't know what I would look for to find them. Quick question regarding Session Horns Pro if anyone has it: how exactly do you trigger smart voicing from the keyboard itself? I asked someone from NI, and they said that it should be there, but I cannot find it. i love the fact that we as blind people can enjoy all of these NKS compatible libraries.

Re: Getting started with native instruments in contact player in reaper?

@BlackMana: It's just pure honesty, that's all it is. A lot of sites share the myth that you can do anything and everything with the stock plugins of your d a w, but they neglect to mention accessibility, or that really only applies to ProTools/Logic/Qbase. And no, I don't record in a studio, I was just pointing out that it's going to be a lot better to switch everything out for the accessible solution rather than spend more time than you need to with something inaccessible. As it stands, AnIdiot has a really good reason to get a Kopmlete keyboard especially given that he has Logic, since Logic is the only d a w that has direct integration with the Komplete hardware. My instruments are stored on a Crucial MX500 1tb ssd inside an external enclosure, and I did just hear they came out with a 2tb variant so I may need to look into that if I run out of storage.@anIdiot: I'd say if your keyboard is only a few years old, you're in a prime position to sell that and exchange it for something else. What you described is possible with the Komplete Kontrol a69 keyboard at the very least, and that is a very respectable keyboard. Keyboards generally do not depreciate substantially over a short period of time, as unlike consumer products, pro hardware is actually supposed to last a long time.

OK. great game, although the trees are to bloody powerful. A couple sheep, chickens and cows, and 4 trees and you're unstoppable. This game reminded me how much I over do things lol. I had over 255 animals in 25 minutes. It could be less, but it was still a hell of a lot. I also had 4545 survings of food, and about 25 trees. My only suggestion is raise the prices of the animals, because cows and oinkers especially are pretty expensive. Chickens are like 5 dollars for one here, so that's like a dollar US. Pigs are lke 700 to a grand, so about a hundred to one fifty. Great job however, I also wished you added a notification for when wolves attack, but I probably mised that lol. Keep it up, and mind the animal pricing.

Maybe if there was a click as you switch to a new row or something, but first that bug with not all the tiles not being able to be accessed at first needs to be fixed.

Re: Input needed for planned audio football project

You just shortened development time by about a month or two, thank you very much! For international matches, I think the dimensions are from 64 to 75 meters for the goal line, and 100 to 110 for the touch line. We could go with something like 70 and 105 for the grid, we could always change dimensions and convert the existing data later, if we need to.Writing a simple editor is not a big deal to me, so whatever's comfortable for you will work. What we need are just player numbers and positions, for example p1 5, 5 for the left defender, meaning 5 meters from the touch line and 5 meters from the goal line when defending, etc. This is what the editor would save in a file as well. If you think this would be easier to define in a grid-based editor, I'll create one.The nice thing about the formation database is that you can literally position everyone the way the formations normally work. For example, because you positioned the defenders apart, the opponent forward will be able to stay in-between as needed. Thanks once again, this information is indispensable and I definitely see why mainstream games would do it this way as well.Regarding marking players, I think assigning the closest opponent as your marker is a good idea, so it can change dynamically, but I am also open to ideas in this area if you feel we can do something better.Edit: I forgot to add, regarding attack formations, we only need to define those if they differ from their defensive counterparts, as otherwise I can just instruct the players to move forward. By the way, I am also planning to add a feature to the pause menu, where you will be able to review the entire pitch, in case you would like to determine the starter formation of your opponent, etc.

Re: Input needed for planned audio football project

This is very interesting to read, and it is incredibly useful. I will have to make slight modifications, but based on what you explained, I think Fifa and PES did the right decision to make a formation database. If I whipped up a quick formation database editor, do you think people would contribute formations? I essentially need a defense and an attack formation, for example for 4 4 2, 4 3 4, 4 3 2 1, etc.It would make my life a lot easier, because then I could just send players to their destination depending on whether a team is playing defensive or offensive. The editor would be a grid, where you could define a position for the 10 field players for both attack and defense and of course name the formation, so nothing really fancy.Besides this, players would still have their instructions, for example as a forward stay on the left wing position, wait inside the box, etc. Furthermore, you would be able to overwrite the built-in formation via moving players back and forward in-game.

I'm pretty sure it'll work but you'll need a Linux VM with Orca. Re: Input needed for planned audio football project

Ok, so regarding positioningYour initial thinking is perfectly correct. In football, the teams arrange in a formation literally in front of each other, and they keep moving back and forth, in formation, as the ball moves between the two goalsTo give you a even more perfect image, Imagine two teams of 4-4-2 facing each other off, in the middle of the pitch. Barcelona vs real madridAt the back of barcelona's line, there are 4 defenders, and in between those 4 defenders, are the two  real madrid attackers.in the middle of the pitch there are four banks of players facing each other, and let's imagine that they are both in the same formation, so this means that each midfielder is facing the opposing team's midfielder.and finally, at barcelona's attack, they have two attackers facing four madrid defenders. Now, these guys are standing in a formation in the middle of the field. Imagine that real madrid starts an attack. The entire structure that i described begins moving towards barcelona's goal. Now you can imagine the two central defenders of real madrid are in the center of the field, just a little bit inward towards barcelona's goal, the left and righth defender's of real madrid are pushed higher, and you also can imagine that the two barcelona's attackers are standing  near the two central defenders of real madrid, just close to the center of field, ready to shift the gears forward when the balls comes bouncing back. So, one thing to note from thisBoth teams never, never stay separated from each other! they arange in perfect formation and stick to their markers, so that's why both teams move from goal to goal together. There are exceptions for this.1. a forward peals off and remains in the other half of the field.2. defenders stay bak and don't participate in attack.and ETC.As you can imagine, when the formations are different, things begin to look confusing at first, But this is one of the sweet things about football. suddenly important players begin doing important things. suddenly the right side of real madrid begins creating hell for barcelona for an entire half. This is when AI becomes useful so it arranges the teams automatically into a formation and we as video gamers enjoy playing football cause you can do  different things with different formations. So to answer your question, the AI has to respect the ball first, and see where it is. If real madrid is attacking and the ball is near barcelona's box, then the right winger of real madrid is actually  standing  just outside the box, to the right or somewhere around that area, and heck even their fullback is further ahead, but i can explain that later.

Re: Input needed for planned audio football project

I'm absolutely horrible at programming concepts and logic, so all i can do is to describe how the real football is played, so then you can find logical ways to implement it in your game. i'm pretty sure you do have to sacrifice some  realism and functionality to make the game accessible, but what exactly, i'm not sure.I hope my descriptions were useful to you.One thing to note.Fifa does an interesting thing where it links two players of opposing sides together. The player in control of the ball +  the player who is marking him.or,the player in control of the ball + the goal keeper of opposing side.No matter if a second player is pressuring  the player in position of the ball, what fifa does is linking  ball owner+marker at all times. When you move away from your marker and run  left for example, at some point it then assigns you to another marker who's supposed to mark y ou.This is how it also it makes you defend. when you're defending, it makes you to switch to the nearest player to the ball, (It has a key for it) and then you'll be that marker who's linked with the ball owner

Basically the idea is to create an application that will act as a Xidi song library of sorts, and can be controlled via a GUI. For this, the GUI library that is being used is GTK, or Gimp Toolkit. It appears to be cross-platform and cross-language as well, and it is event-based when handling button behavior.

Re: Input needed for planned audio football project

I'm absolutely horrible at programming concepts and logic, so all i can do is to describe how the real football is played, so then you can find logical ways to implement it in your game. i'm pretty sure you do have to sacrifice some  realism and functionality to make the game accessible, but what exactly, i'm not sure.I hope my descriptions were useful to you.

at post 105 maybe you should reconsider your own words before you wright them down, and actually try to look on the bright cide of the game, give positive feedback,  not going directly and   criticizing it, that's one of the main reasons    that discouraged other developers for developing new games

Hi, I'm Olivia, or ThatBlindChemist. I've been playing audiogames for several years, but haven't really been involved in the community. Looking forward to talking about audiogames!

Hi,Although I already have a JAWS license (don't start yelling at me, I was raised on it, okay), but this is just a shitty move by Freedom Scientific. I would really like to know why they are doing this USA and Canada only Thing.

Re: rb farm is out

Suggestion to expand on what #25 has said. You could hire farmhands. These farmhands would periodically interact with your animals (milk cows, feed pigs, collect eggs etc). But they require a salary that you must pay every season. If you can't pay, they leave you, but let's say one farm hand can look after five different animals or so.

Re: Getting started with native instruments in contact player in reaper?

Yes.@anIdiot: You have nothing to lose selling that old keyboard in exchange for a Native one.It really doesn't get better than that as far as accessibility is concerned, other than plugins that are already accessible (Sonivox is actually quite impressive in this regard).I am going to underhype you right here, so sorry but not sorry. Music production is an expensive endeavor. If you haven't got the druthers, wait till you do. Seriously. Especially if you are dealing with potentially inaccessible stuff. Save yourself the hastle. There are people out there, me included, that can handle your production work, who already have the setup, while you wait for a good time to sell your keyboard.Regarding Eastwest, correct it is only accessible through nks. It also generally depends on what you're looking for as far as Eastwest instruments are concerned. Their Stormdrum series are great, and their guitars are good-sounding yet not very elastic, i.e. you're stuck with what's within the largely static presets. If you want guitars, go for something like this:https://www.samplelogic.com/products/gu … 6ed1f11d36The orchestral libraries are good, although the Sonivox Fimlscore Companion bundle stands shoulder to shoulder with Eastwest's orchestral library, is substantially cheaper and smaller in size, and is surprisingly accessible. Beyond that, it has open-browsable fxb presets for the instruments that don't have a menu-system. The only applications that I still use Eastwest for from an orchestral standpoint are solo instruments, as that is the only thing the Sonivox bundle doesn't have. Yes, it's got 12gb worth of pianos as well, and don't let the Steinway attachment fool you, as this is no typical Steinway grand sampling from Garageband or Logic. This is a very meticulous sampling of just about any acoustic grand piano configuration you could want, and for electric pianos there's the Waves Electric Grand 80key, which is NKS-ready as well.
