Re: Owning a dog - Is it a good idea?

Hadi, I am assuming by your message you are talking about a pet dog not a service animal. If so having one in your situation could be a little challenging. For one thing most apartments I have ever lived in have pet ownership rules and regulations and you would need to look into those before doing anything else. For example, some apartment owners say no pets allowed, and others are quite specific what breeds of dogs they will and wont allow based on general temperament, size, etc. So before you can even think about getting a dog you need to know if there are restrictions if any on getting one.Assuming you are allowed a dog not having a grassy area for it to use to go to the toilet is going to be problematic. Obviously, you will have to take it out roughly every three or four hours to go to the toilet and it is easier if there is some grass to use. If not be prepared to scrape its pooh off the sidewalk with a plastic scoop and deposit it in a plastic disposable b
aggy. That is no fun, but doable.Something else to consider is if you are getting a dog as a pet that means it will be totally untrained. Speaking from experience it is a good idea to take it in for some sort of basic obedience training because you want it to learn at least some basic commands such as sit, stay, lay down, heal, and leave it. That last is especially important because dogs, especially untrained dogs, are curious and will chase a cat, another dog, go into a barking fit, or something else because they are easily distracted. Thats the last thing you want to happen while taking it on a walk so you need to be able to tell it leave it so he or she will know to leave it alone and hopefully ignore whatever it is that has the dogs attention. That doesnt always work, but it is better than no training at all.As far as which breed to get that is a personal decision in my opinion. I have owned several dogs over the years and had a
few different breeds, and without knowing your pet policy I hesitate to start making suggestions. However, by and large it is personal preference, and a lot has to do with what kind of dog you want. Do you want something big or small? Do you want one that has fur or hair? Do you want one that is lazy or active? All of those options will help narrow down the kind of breed that is right for you.For example, take the subject of fur verses hair. Not a lot of non-dog owners realize that some dogs have actual hair similar to a humans that needs to be trimmed. Such breeds include Poodles and Bichons. It is very soft, but is difficult to maintain because it has to be cut by a qualified dog groomer, constantly brushed, and is very high maintenance. If you think that is too expensive or too much like work you will want a dog with fur which falls out or can be brushed out on a regular basis. The down side of fur is that because it falls out it gets all over your carpet, on your furnitur
e, clothes, and becomes a hassle to keep cleaned up. So you need to decide which you are more willing to put up with as a dog owner.

Most communities that wind up multigenerational tend to have these periods each time a new generation pops in where the newer generation has bouts of drama. Most of the drama around here lately seems to come from the newer developers yelling at each other. If things work out the way they have elsewhere, most of them should either cool down or get themselves banned over the course of a few months.

I know I downloaded all the high definition Nuance voices they had on their web site for JAWS users, but dont remember if they are for Eloquence or Vocalizer Expressive. I have been happy enough with the default Eloquence voice that I havent gotten around to trying them out. Some day when I get ambitious, I will!So far, except for some voice samples for Kate and Mike? SAPI 5 voices that I heard somewhere, the default Eloquence voice in JAWS is the best sounding and most understandable of all the text to speech voices Ive heard. Id love it if Nuance would release Eloquence for iOS to replace the Siri and VoiceOver voices.

Re: What is highschool like for a blind person, at a public school

Speaking for myself switching to a non-specialized school, going to a public school, was probably the best decision I ever made. That said, I had a lot of help during that transition which you may or may not have, but it really made all the difference for me.In my 10th year of school I decided I wanted to go to my local high school which was closer, a lot of my friends went their, but of course it wasnt specialized. So I had a little difficulty of getting people to allow me to make the change, but as I said above I got a lot of help initially and it worked out well in the end.For one thing the high school I attended already had a couple of disabled students who were in wheel chairs etc and the school had hired an aid to attend to their needs. What they did when I started school is assign that aid to me on days when I needed a reader-writer for tests, for library time, and she was also available when I needed her such as helping me get my lunch during lunch hour
or helping me walk to and from the school annex building.I found in time though that I needed her less and less because I had made friends who were more than willing to help me get something from the cafeteria during lunch time or who would walk with me to the school annex for gym or band classes. So while a special aid was available if I needed one I found just being social, making friends, communicating my needs to whoever was around me, I could often get buy on my own and without any special support.Another thing that helped is I had a life long membership to RFBD, now called Learning Alley, so when school started I got the names of the books Id need, placed an order to RFBD, and got them mailed to me on tape or in braille. As a result just by being a bit assertive, taking my own accessibility needs into my own hands, I was able to take what may have been an accessibility concern and turn it into a pretty minor problem for everyone involved. All it
really took is using what resources I already had in place to make the transition possible. So moral of the story is a blind person can get along just fine in a public school. If that person is generally independent, is good about taking responsibility for his or her needs, and isnt afraid to make friends and contacts it will work out just fine in the long run.

From what ive heard Pygame is fairly stable and has a metric ton of tutorials all over the place, so seems like a good choice.I mostly use pyglet, its 3D positional audio is nice and playing sounds is fairly straight forward, though at the moment you have to be abit careful to free up resources. Currently ive just encountered a bug im looking into where the audio isnt playing on certain systems, though you can try it out for yourself.

Today there are a number of alternatives including: NVDA, Window-Eyes, System Access, Supernova, etc. Rather than complain about it I chose to leave Jaws the minute I found something both cheaper and meets my personal needs. I personally feel if someone has a grievance with Jaws or any other product to stop complaining about it and simply find an alternative that suits his/her needs.

I will not discuss the freedom scientific topic sinse Ive just posted a moderation message there, however one thing I will say is to remember the proverb evil shouts, good whispers, indeed one thing I will say about the forum is people are remarkably quick to remember the bad occurrences but dont tend to remember as much of the good stuff.I have noticed myself that on any forum not just this one, when an arguement starts the band wagon gets rolling and everyone jumps on. That is what moderators are for and why our faq clearly states to respect others while sharing opinions. while Im very sorry you as a new member happened to run into one of these juggernaughts of flame, equally Id s
uggest that perhaps you, and ghost rider and anyone else actually start reporting these situations, (obviously myself and the other mods cant read every topic there is), sinse the forum has gone on for a very long time quite amicably, and Id much rather these things got resolved, indeed its quite amazing how once you stop the band wagon everyone can get off and be quite peaceful. Frequently, its not actually what someones opinion is, but how they express it that counts and unfortunately language is an escalating thing, ie, if one person starts calling something crap other people will too. I do agree the just ignore it putoff is very irritating, sinse it really does go against the free speech and mutual respect ethos that we usually try to promote, indeed Ive debated writing a list of forum dos and donts (mostly donts), including this reason.

Ghost Rider, while I do get what you are saying I also think you are letting a few bad apples spoil your opinion of what is a fairly decent community in the main. The reason I say that is I have been on the web for close to twenty years, and the fact is I have been on both blind and sighted forums, chat rooms, and while there certainly are individuals in the blind community that act childish, immature, and behave inappropriately I have been around the web enough these last two decades to know there are some mainstream communities that are just as bad as not worse. It just all depends on what subject you are on, and how volatile it gets. I have seen some pretty spectacular flame wars on mainstream forums that make the childish stuff that goes on here seem pretty minor in comparison. So lets not point fingers and judge the entire blind community based on a handful of immature and childish individuals.

Re: Owning a dog - Is it a good idea?

Ooopse, missed this topic. Tom has done a lot of good summarizing much by way of matters, but Ill add a few points. Firstly, it is not always the case that a dog will be untrained, unless you get a puppy. If you for example adopt a dog from another person it might well know commands. I would not actually recommend a puppy in your situation sinse effectively it is like looking after a baby, requires huge amounts of time, commitment and work and probably would also be a bit much on your own. One of my major worries about dogs in small flats, is how much exercise, stimulation and attention the dog gets, sinse its not like say a dog in a large family house with people coming and going, or indeed with another dog for the first to play with. there are some breeds that can get by on a limited amount, however you cant expect a dog to lie around the house all day. This was something that even worried me with Reever despite her being both a guide
dog and extremely lazy, indeed I take her out for one working walk each day of 40 minutes or so just to give her soemthing to do. With a pet dog this will require more commitment sinse you wont be walking with the dog when you go shopping or go out etc. Another fact to consider is that most dogs like a run in a clear area once in a while. Unless you have an inclosed grassy field near you I would recommend getting an extendable leed, so that you can insure the dog doesnt run off and get lost, and even if you can guarantee an inclosed area its important to be certain youve done enough obedience training with the dog to insure it will return. One other thing I will mention, is that if your looking for a pet and arent commited to a dog for say being a guide dog, cats have some advantages, particularly for people living in smaller flats sinse cats will exercise themselves, dont need taking for walks etc. On the down side, there are
far fewer absolutely person bonded cats than dogs, most cats are highly independent and only regard people as essentially a source of food or an annoyence, though this can vary and I have met a couple of very! people orientated cats. Dogs on the other hand will view a person as part of their pack, and so you can build much more of a friendship with a dog than often happens with a cat.

You could buy a lion instead. And raise it. Until it becomes giant big. And then you could connect a microphone to it. And the microphone is connected to the speakerrs. And then when it roars in the early morning, you can wake up the entire street! Just kidding. But buying a dog will be incredibly hard. Im not saying you shouldnt, but just be prepared. Especially if the dog is naughty and likes to charge everywhere.Regarding poo Dark, you dont actually need to scoop it. Here is a trick I learnt. Ill do my best to describe it. Basically you put your hands into the bag. The bag is like a gluv. Your hands touch the poo, although you are shielded by the bag. Make sure to have all of it within your grasp. Then you turn the bag inside out, and the poo is in the bag.

Combat points you earn by blowing up enemy vessels, note though that if the vessels max hull is less than or equol to 1000, you wont get any points. However, blowing up something like a battlecruiser would earn you several combat points. Mission points you earn by completing missions, like derelict salvage, cargo missions, and patrol missions. Enjoy! The more you have, the closer youll be to leveling up to rank 1. Once you get to rank 1, youll be able to command your own voyager, be aware though that rank 1 ships and above are capital vessels, and hents are unable to land. The 17 deck nebvan cruiser is rank 2.

Re: Need help with CCleaner

@BradFrom CCleaner 5.exe, the settings interface is not so accessible. They have to mark those settings to checkmark. Not just the buttons like that. that way, it is a lot easier for screen reader users to know that which settings is turned on, and which settings is turned off. If they use the buttons, do you know which settings is turned on? for example, there is a setting called starts CCleaner when the computer starts up or something simeler to that which I forgot. this way, they should mark this setting like this:start CCleaner when the computer starts up check box check. in that case, the screen reader users could no that this setting is turned on.But in fact, They had put the setting to goes like this:Start CCleaner when the computer starts up button. This really no sence to me.

@GeneWarnerNo I am not, however, I am also not willing to throw a blanket of blame over everyone at Freedom Scientific for the bad acts of a few misguided souls. There are basically two implied factual statements in what you say.(1) Everyone at FS$ is being attacked.Havent seen any making such a sweeping claim so would you care to back up it with evidence.(2) The bad acts -- namely the policy decisions by FS$ under discussion are only the responsibility of a few misguided souls. If you have any reason for giving the decision makers a free pass, because they they in your opinion are merely misguided souls and by implication not actors to whom moral agency can be assigned, you should back up your opinion with evidence. And there are plenty evidence for past and present policy decisions by FS$ which are still a legitimate matter of public concern. You dont get to defi
ne which issues are worthy of criticism. If you have any substantive arguments, by all means state what you think, but simply claiming that people should not focus excessively on FS$ will not do.

Re: Bugs in The Inquisitor part 1?

It sounds like you are stuck in the same place Ive gotten stuck every time Ive tried to play the game. It also sounds like youve encountered the same helping hand Ive found, some of them I didnt mind because once you figured out what you needed to do, it becomes very repetitive.Did you encountered any problems with having to hit a key twice to get the game to see it once. This often happened to me upon entering a room or area, Id want to see what I might be able to interact with by pressing tab, most of the time I had to press the tab key twice before it would start going through the objects.I also found that frequently when you tried to use the map, it wouldnt give you any of the choices of where to go, you had to exit the map, then re-enter. Or you couldnt get the map to open, you had to first escape to the menu, then return to the game without doing anything to get the map to work.I had a conversation with the
author about the games problems and how to solve them so I could finish the game. He told me that the original group of people that wrote the game have been disbanded so there wont be any fixes to the game. He also told me that most of the games problems are from the development tools used to write the game, and that the other games were written using a different set of tools, so they should work a lot better than part 1 does. That could be good news for you. For me, I was glad I hadnt yet bought any of the other Inquisitor games. With the disappointment part one was, Im not willing to gamble that the other games dont have similar problems.

2015-07-05 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : CAE_Jones via Audiogames-reflector

Re: New games you'd like to see from Ultrocity Audio

(I got here by searching for the wonderfully specific term of jumping, since I cant seem to stop noticing ways in which jumping is completely different in audio games compared to the mainstream. The only non-fighting mainstream game I can think of where up is used for Jump is Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Subzero, and thats pretty much because it is the Mortal Kombat engine tossed into a 2d platformer. And the controls in that game left something to be desired.)Im going to go ahead and second Darks comments by admitting that I picked a terrible engine to use for Mario. Even with its limitations, I could probably have made the maneuvering a bit more like the NES version had I tried a bit harder--Marios sliding, for example. The most frustrating part of the NES version of Mario is that giant pit in 8-1, not because youre trying to land on a tiny block that starts out off screen, but because youre more likely to just run right
off the edge with momentum. (Ive heard sighted people complain about that part, too!)I think there is one big difference between audio and video that its easy to forget: brightness and loudness serve different functions. If somethings farther away, its quieter, which makes it harder to hear in many situations. Video-wise, things that are far away arent any less visible, if theyre close enough to be relevant. The same works the other way--the screen has a distinct boundary, and anything that goes off screen is invisible. Meanwhile, audio has no distinct boundary, even though information gets harder to use with distance. In real life, distance does make things blurry, visually, but the distance were talking about is huge--over 100 feet away, someone with less than perfect vision can probably still recognize people.Theres also less ambiguity with distance. Top-down is hard in audio because you cant really get
precision on the y axis. This is sort of a problem in first person as well--good luck guessing when zombies are in melee range in Swamp, for example--but you can at least use small turns to triangulate.Im glad someone else noticed the movement thing, though! It took me ages to realize that most audio games are using a system where there is a timer specifically to keep track of when you last took a step, because that just seems so bizarre from a mainstream perspective. The closest Ive come to that is actually Mario and the JFIM Adventure, because they use Finite State Machines, where walking is a state just like jumping and attacking, and those could actually have been more mainstream-esque if I used 1 state = 1 frame of animation, instead of one logical action. If I ever separate movement from actions, its with velocity vectors, and I always fret over whether or not to try and make friction and momentum work realistically (I usually settle on no, just to av
oid the headache, but Sonic lives on actual kinematics). You know whats cool about Mario 2? Theres an ice level, where you dont slow down as quickly when you stop, because youre sliding on ice. I keep wanting to make a game that does something like this, but The Demon Lord of Sloth and Lethargy keeps punching me in the gut. (Incidentally, does anyone know where I can find a decent exorcist?)So... ur... lets combine everyones suggestions and have Ultrocity make a game where you have to fight Frost Zombies while trying to infiltrate the Ice Queens palace and convince her to give up her wicked ways (possibly by currying favor with the people of the Queendom along the way).So... Frozen, but with more violence. ... And sled races, because why not?

Re: Owning a dog - Is it a good idea?

Hello guysthank you all a lot for replying and bringing on very very helpful points and concerns. the mentioned points are extremely helpful. Theyve raised lots of questions in my mind and I am concerned a lot about some of them.I am going to address my concerns from the highest priority. The ones that worries me the most comes first.1. training.I think This is going to be the most problematic issue here. I believe I wouldnt be able to get a trained dog. The chanses of getting a dog that is properly trained is very low. Having a dog in this country is not popular, and by troditions You are not allowed to own a dog - Because Its dirty according to the dominent religion-. This makes the total number of professional dog trainers, breeders and groomers extremely low. I have talked to the organization that sells dogs. They said that they will most probably give me a puppy, and If i wanted, They will import my required dog bree
d from other countries and get it to me as fast as possible. Now, I am not sure If there is a deticated organization/center around here that would teach my dog basic training elements. I totally should be lookout for one of these because I dont want my dog to get lost or become a troublemaker. I live with my mom and dad for now - I wonder If we could teach basic stuff to the dog ourselves? How much of a challenge do you think that is going to be. This is totally our first dog so we got no experience at all.2- toiletSo, weve got an apartment in a building that consist of 9 more apartments. We got a yard but Im assuming that Neighbors will freak out if I let my dog to poop in the yard unless i clean it out myself as you guys suggested. I need to ask my mom if theres a good grassy area around our house and if theyre protected or not. If not, I think Im going to be frustrated.3. MaintenenceMy dear god, I think my m
om hates when dogs shed; on the other hand I need to see if I can find a groomer. I need to sleep on this, I am not sure still if i want my dog to have hair or fur4. Being noisy/ problems with neighborsI live with like eight more families in the building. I totally do not like my dog to go nuts for a long time, That wouldnt go well. on the other hand, I dont think they would have any problems with the dog being in the building.5. Exercise and energyI guess this would be the least issue Id be concerned with. Ill make sure the dog is drained out of his/her energy. Id take him for a walk and Im up for some play time during the day! Besides, Ill be able to take him to meet and socialize with my friends and family, interduce him to their homes and such..Thanks Thomas, Dark and thunderfist for your awesome replies, Its always cool to read your posts and hear your experiences and suggestions, You guys ro
 ck as deticated forum members.

Re: Distancing myself from the blind community

@Some of youWell, I agree that there are many problems going on in the blind community, especially in some forums, but that doesnt necessarily mean that all are the same. With this state, you are reminding me a generalised opinion of the mainstream sited people who think that all blind people are equally the same. They cannot study, they cannot learn, they are unable to help themselves in their daily life, etc etc etc. I registered in this forum about 9 or 10 months ago, and Ive seen a very good community, far far better than the other ones. Its true that some people in the blind community act extremely childishly. Ive seen pretty much more childish behavior in the other forums, like Playroom, when a person would report another in the public forum, and the posts would flow 90 comments per day. That went so bad that the admin stated that he got mad by that post and decided to close the topic because everything felt like a game or fairytale for a three
year old child. These kind of things are supposed to happen even in the sited forums, arent they?Fortunately blindness is a disability which is supposed to cause problems to the vision not to the brain. So there are very bad people, immature, mentally disorganized, but there are also very good and intelligent blind people as well who will pleasurely get along with you and you will enjoy every single discussion.Thank you for taking the time to read this post and please do not get all blinds stuck in the same category.Have a good time.

For me, that long delay brings into question the real motivations of those who are making a loud noise over the flaws in this license agreement.Anyway, as I said in another thread, Im a JAWS user and a satisfied Freedom Scientific customer, so Im interested in what other people think of them and their products, but not if I have to listen to name calling and other destructive and unhelpful remarks. so Im leaving you to your bashing session. Theres got to be a service company that has helpers that go out to clients homes when needed to help them with things they cant do themselves. It will be more expensive than a family member but, it will get the job done.Your disabilities advisor at the university is, unfortunately, not alone, Ive heard other disability authorities say the exact same thing, its apparently a comm

Several eye operations when I was a year old restored my vision in one eye, but because your sense of vision is still developing after you are born, and I was blind for a year, my vision never fully developed, leaving me with 20/60 vision even with the strong glasses I had to where because of the cataract surgery. That basically means that I could only see about one third of the detail someone with normal 20/20 vision sees. I could ride a bike safely, but couldnt pass the eye test to get a drivers license. I had 20/60 vision most of my life. Then when I was 53 years old, I began losing my vision to an aggressive form of glaucoma, that was
five years ago. Two years ago I was declared legally blind, but even then I could still see well enough that I didnt need a white cane and only needed a screen magnifier to use a computer. Now, however, all the vision I have left is some light perception, what little I can see is obscured by a fog of random nerve energy that is constantly changing. Its been stable for a while, but I cant help believing that I will eventually go totally blind.I sometimes feel that if you are going to be blind, it would be better to be born that way. After youve had it, and realize what youve lost, losing your vision is pretty traumatic. Some people simply handle it better than others. Losing my vision put me in a deep depression for almost two years.I can understand the problem of feeling powerless. My last job was with a large multinational company, for our department, a new executive had a multi user customer database set up for us. While using it one day
, I discovered that it didnt lock records being edited, so it was possible for two users to edit the same record, thus one users edits would be lost. I mentioned this problem to the executive and his response was to not worry about it. Later when a conflict did happen and data was lost, he solved the problem by removing my edit privileges to the database. When other members of our group complained that that was causing a problem for us, his response was to blame me for the data loss, and refused to restore my ability to write to the database. Because he was the executive managing our department, there wasnt anything I could do. It was very irritating and frustrating because I now had an undeserved black mark in my record that always came up as a negative point he used against me during every annual review after that. Before that job, I had a job at a small business that manufactured a piece of medical equipment that was owned by a husband and wife team. I had known
this couple for several years before working with them, and I thought we were friends. What a disaster, those two were constantly fighting over who had control of the business and they got me involved in the war by bad mouthing the other when they werent present.

@bradThe same could be said of any corporation being the first to market a groundbreaking invention.Does it mean that we should be thankful in perpetuity for what the corporation has done for us and give it a free pass when it tries to squelch competition? If FS$ had been successful in patenting screen reader functions, NVDA would either not exist or have been crippled from start.

Its true that some people in the blind community act extremely childish. Ive seen pretty much more childish behavior in the other forums, like Playroom, when a person would report another in the public forum, and the posts would flow 90 comments per day. That went so bad that the admin stated that he got mad by that post and decided to close the topic because everything felt like a game or fairytale for a three y
ear old child. These kinds of things are supposed to happen even in the sited forums, arent they?Fortunately blindness is a disability which is supposed to cause problems to the vision not to the brain. So there are very bad people, immature, mentally disorganized, but there are also very good and intelligent blind people as well who will pleasurely get along with you and you will enjoy every single discussion.Thank you for taking the time to read this post and please do not get all blinds stuck in the same category.Have a good time.

@urfx, I dont think an independence rating would be necessary particularly, just a clarrification of language. If its possible for a person to get all their information from Talkback/Voiceover and the in game sounds, its accessible, indeed where blind gamers are concerned youd probably have to work pretty hard to create an inaccesible audiogame . Just next time if say there is a delay in an accessibility fix, just tell people as much rather than using the term accessible before it is warranted. Anyone who wishes and has the opportunity to get sighted assistance will do so and others will wait for the fix. As I said, were definitely! not strangers to the fact adding access is not always easy an easy or quick matter and will be quite patient about waiting, however I do confess I was a trifle irritated when I initially
saw the hurrah! Js is on Ios announcement and then got the moment of Hurru! but its not accessible .

Re: greedom science fiction, what did I just agree to?

@GeneWarnerCriticism is not less valid or important just because it concerns events you think are no longer of great novelty.Yes, the issues with FS$ license are not new, and so what? You do not get to define which actions of anyone are too old to be of general public concern. And you are continuing to conflate criticizing a corporation with wishing ill on its employees. If there are particular statements wherein anyone has wished ill on individual employees of the said corporation, by all means provide the exact quotes, but dont argue that others should refrain from recalling what FS$ has done in the past, and please dont cast suspicion on peoples motivation without evidence.- You are claiming from apparent superiority that others act childishly, but you are yourself imputing the honesty of the blogger by strongly implying that his primary motive for covering the FS$ license is getting more clicks.I note once again that you have not refuted my point that if FS$ had been successful in patenting placemarkers i.e assigning keyboard shortcuts to searching text on a webpage, free screen reader development would have grounded to a halt.So in a world where FS$ was able to patent screen reader functions, you would have no free opensource alternative for the simple reason that developers would have been sued into oblivion. And I am not willing to give FS$ a free pass even for its past litigiousness just because they failed. And by they I do not mean all individual employees down to the office secretary but only those who are responsible for setting the policy.

If not, I think Im going to be frustrated a bit.3. MaintenenceMy dear god, I thin

Besides, Ill be able to take him to meet and socialize with my friends and family, interduce him to their homes and such..Thanks Thomas, Dark and thunderfist for your awesome replies, Its always cool to read your posts and hear your experiences and suggestions, You g

Hello.Im an NVDA user and would not go back to jaws. But I will say this, before NVDA, JAWS was my screen reader and I learned how to use a computer using JAWS so, i dont hate JAWS, its people or anything like that. I dont like that you have to pay for it, but before i knew about NVDA, JAWS was awesome. It allowed me to go on the internet, read books, listen to audiobooks, watch movies, listen to radio and much much more. So before we say we hate JAWS, which I dont think anyone does hear, think back on what it aloud you to do.

Re: Distancing myself from the blind community

Hello all,Here is my point of view. I love audio games. That is, I love to develop, play, and talk about them, which is the reason I have not left the forum. Ive seen the drama, I used to be part of it myself, but that stopped a couple of months ago. But back to the subject at hand, I will not leave this forum simply for the fact that there are! supportive people, civilized people, people who can help with any technical issues I have, people who make wonderful games and play and support any that I make myself, people that have some sense in their brains, --- and those are the people, in my opinion, that keep this community running. The moderators, while they do a great job in most cases of stomping out the drama that comes about, are not what drives this forum; its the people. and I dont mean the immature drama magnets, I mean the tens, (maybe even hundreds because I dont bother to count), of people who are there to help, discuss, an
d play games with. I have decided to be one of those people. So when there are topics with drama in them now a days, I mostly either have a brief look and laugh before hitting the close button, or skip them entirely. Because I could leave this community all I want, just to join a sighted community. But then what? Id find 20 or so drama topics within 6 months as I have here and leave that one too. So what would be the point?

Re: Need help with CCleaner

Hello,Yes, older versions of Ccleaner had check boxes, new ones have buttons for some reasen. Start when computer start is also I think in the setup, so you can change that there (corect me if I am wrong). About your problem: so, Ccleaner automaticly cleans cookies every day or it cleans them when you start it? if problem is #1 you can just uncheck cookies (check boxes arent there at first, but they are there when you press space. if something is unchecked when you press space, that means it was priviusly checked) or, if you dont like it to do this thing automaticly, go to tools, start up, and on first tab (automaticly selected) stop Ccleaner monitoring.I hope that helped, Mayana

Re: bokurano daiboukenn 3

Dont jump the gap. Fall until your at height 30 or something low, them use the hook. After this, you can fall the rest of the way. Now, you will find spark boxes. After destroying a spark box, you will find a dial. The number that you have to set the dial to is on the piece of paper the mud killer dropped. A good way to do this is to paste the numbers in to notepad, then find the number for one of the dials. This is because the dial at 0 has to be set to the last number, and the final dial has to be set to the first number. Note that once youve set a dial, you cant change the number after setting it. After destroying all spark boxes and setting all dials, you will be able to open the door at the end.

Getting to the story mode in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round

Hi everyone,This is the version of DOA that came out for the PS4. When starting it for the first time, a bunch of items are locked, as I get what sounds like an error sound. Do I have to download a stupid costume on PS4 to make the game fully playable like I had to do on the Xbox? No matter what I try, I always seem to wind up at the solo versus screen. I played a few fights which is nice but I want the story first. Then ill look at other stuff. Yes, Ive played the story on my Xbox but there were certain trophies I didnt get and Im not sure how I missed them. There was one where I had to unlock a character in chapter 13 and another one. Whenever a menu comes up in that story, Ex seems to advance the plot after winning a match, so not sure if Im supposed to choose something at certain points? Thanks all.

Re: a few complaints about the blind comunity

Oddly enough, I can easily handle hardware maintenance or repairs myself with no trouble. Even when I could see I often did my hardware work without looking at it because there was often not enough room in the computer case for your hands to do the work and your eyes to watch. That always drove one of my former bosses crazy, he could not figure out how anyone could assemble a computer without looking at it. And I enjoyed bugging him with it! Since I now have a laptop, the computer work is with software that cant be run in Windows so theres no way to get it to talk to me. Things like partition managers, BIOS settings, etc. There has to be a limit to how many labels the Pen Friend will accept, if not for memory availability, then for manufacturing the labels. Each label in your collection has to be unique so that there wont be any confu
sion. You cant for example have two label number ones. How would the scanner know to play the recording for the label number one attached to the video game versus the label number one attached to a can of tomato soup? To the scanner theyd both look like the same label. The VoxComs recorder is a small box shaped device with a slot that accepts credit card sized labels, compared to the Voila, it seem crude and clunky. If I remember correctly from the descriptions of it, the Pen Friend, despite its name, isnt even remotely pen shaped, its shaped more like a pencil box that could hold a dozen or so pencils. Its another box like the VoxCom, just narrower and longer than the VoxCom. Since you have one, you can let me know if this is right. On thing that made me hesitate on the Pen Friend was the differently shaped labels. Besides allowing you to tell one label from another, which is what the Pen Friend is supposed to do, I don
39;t see the point.Except for its finickyness about scanning its label, I like the design of the Voila the best. The device is shaped like a magic marker with a large resevior and you are intended to hold it like you would a pen. Its label are small at about half and inch by a couple of inches, small enough to be easily attached to small things without becoming a problem, yet big enough to be easily found.I consider my phone to be an communication and information device, if I need entertainment I reach for the iPod.I guess I could buy some iOS games, but the fact is, I prefer to play games on my PC.

2015-07-05 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : tward via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Owning a dog - Is it a good idea?

Hadi, Ill try and answer your questions as best as I can. To be honest some of those are tough to answer given that dogs arent well liked in your country, and you dont have the same services and resources there as I would here.As for training Im not really sure what to suggest since it does not sound like you have training services there like we do here. In the USA a lot of people have dogs and finding an obedience training course for dogs is pretty easy to come buy. However, difficult it may be to find one I do think it is a necessary step in owning a dog because you will want the dog to learn to sit, stay, heel, etc upon command.Teaching your dog basic obedience training is possible, but you lack the experience and skills to do it. You admit to being a new dog owner, having no previous experience, so training the dog yourself will be pretty darn difficult. It would be one thing if you had owned other dogs, had been through obedience training
before, and had picked up the skills how to train your dog from prior experience. So Im not sure it will be possible to do it yourself under the circumstances. As for the dog going to the toilet you should get use to cleaning up the dogs business as it will keep your yard clean and yes it will make the neighbors happy. Nobody wants to go outside and step in a pile of dog pooh. In fact, since you are blind it is more likely youll be the one to accidentally step in it and track it in your apartment so it is better for everyone if you get in a habit of cleaning up after your dog.As for maintenance shedding can be a big issue. there are ways to deal with it. Frequently vacuuming your home will get rid of most of the shed fur, and there are even pet vacuums available which allows you to vacuum the loose fur directly off your cat or dog.For example, a few years ago I got something called a Cat Vac from a local vacuum and sweeper store. I have no idea
if anything like it is available in your country, but they do exist. It is basically a small vacuum cleaner with some special attachments which allows you to comb the fur off your dog or cat and have it vacuum up the loose fur while it does it. It is a pretty cool device and makes cleaning up pet fur rather nice. Especially, when you are blind and dont know where all the loose fur is going to end up on your floor while grooming your pet.As for the dog being noisy that can be a problem, but there are certainly ways to deal with it. One way is by obtaining a bark collar. These are little dog collars with a little box with metal prongs sticking out of it that lays against the dogs neck. Whenever the dog barks it will shock him or her, and after a while the dog will learn not to bark. It sounds cruel but it is effective in keeping the noise down to a minimum. Plus the shock isnt really that serious. I have even gotten shocked a couple of times myself by accident and w
hile painful it isnt that bad. Just enough to let the dog know the behavior isnt acceptable and he or she will get the message real quick.

aikido!

aikido!

For all who dont know, Aikido is a traditional martial art that is similar in some respects to judo, but probably about 10 times more complicated and broader in scope as Judo mostly deals with grappling, where aikido deals with both. The unique feature about Aikido in comparison to most martial arts is its emphasis on blending your movements with those of your opponent and using energy redirection, balance and footwork to displace an opponent rather than strictly using power to meet force with force. Of course, thats the very basics of it.. and its much more complicated than that, but thats all Im able to explain in verble words without going on a super long rant. I just started training in this style again after a 3 year break, and am loving it immensely. I think that for anyone who is visually impaired or totally blind, this martial art is one that everyone should try... because not only will it do the usual of building your confidence and growing y
our mental discipline... but its emphasis on circles and footwork as well as spacing and awareness will do wonders for any persons orientation and mobility skills, especially those who have no vision. I figured since there were some people who had interested in martial arts on this forum, I would bring it up again for discussion... and Im also curious. for any of the few of you that have trained in Aikido, are there any electronic resources you would recommend for study as someone with no vision, ebooks etc?

Re: Monthly chat July 2015

Well, as for me I have a pretty full schedule ahead. July is of course right smack in the middle of summer vacation here in the States, and that is also when there is a lot of things to do.For example, last Saturday was our 4th of July holiday. I basically spent the morning playing games with my son on his Playstation. Then, we picked up a fried chicken dinner at the local IGA. We got fried chicken, baked beans, jo-joes, a chocolate cake, and a bottle of root beer. It was a decent meal all things considered. After that we went downtown to the 4th of July celebration at the town square where my son got to play in the bouncy houses, join in some other games, and ride a mechanical bull. We ended up getting some cups of fresh squeezed lemonade on our way home.As it so happens my sons birthday is also coming up this month, and I have not decided what Ill be doing for my sons birthday but Im sure my family and I will throw together some sort of cele
bration for him. So that too is something to look forward to this month. That said, I have a doctors appointment this month I have mixed feelings about. For the last two three years I have been having some serious problems with my face and mouth making it difficult for me to open my mouth to talk or eat. I will be seeing a specialist this month to have it looked at. The problem is this doctor does not accept any kind of government insurance. He does not take Medicare, Medicaid, or that worthless pile of crap Obamacare so that means Ill be paying out of pocket to see him. If he can do something about the problem that will be worth it, but I dont really have the money to spend. If he cant do anything I might as well flush the money down the toilet. So saying that my financial situation is just now recovering from my divorce I have more than my share of anxt over racking up more debt I really cant afford. On the bright side things are goi
ng better than they have been. Ive got ongoing medical situations, but that aside Im looking forward to this month and getting out and doing stuff. The weather here is unusually rainy, which is certainly something of a bummer, but when I can get out and do things the weather is relatively nice all things considered. So here is hoping for a decent month.

Re: sapi5 eloquence

2015-07-05 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : jack via Audiogames-reflector

Re: sapi5 eloquence

Eloquence and espeak are the leaders of responsiveness on windows. To everyone using a virtual machine, either on windows or mac, or maybe even bootcamp, you will need to do some stuff before installing eloquence. As an antipiracy measure, they are using a commercial drm solution called Themita. This controls stuff like number of computers your license is installed on, etc. Disadvantage is that themita restricts the software from being installed on virtual machines. This is obviously an annoying hurdle to jump. Fortunately, there is a way around it. Ok so you gotta now open the .vmx file of your virtual machine. If its a newly formatted mac vm thats packaged in a single file, v-o+shift+m on the vm, show package contents, the nfind the .vmx file. Now go to the end of the file and add the following line.monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = TRUEBackdoor is the system that contains information about the computer and notes that it is in deed a virtual
machine, and installers like this one that have drm coded in them will look for this information. As you will know if you have tried installing eloquence in a vm, they got an error saying, Sorry, this software cant be installed in a vm, its that information that the installer is getting. Restricting backdoor will make sure the virtual machines badge of nonhonor is not exposed and is not being worn. But it makes the virtual machine look like a real computer rather than a vm. Now save the vmx. Youre still not done, cause now you gotta change the display. The Themita drm will go crazy and check your display! as part of the computer info check. It is smart and knows the vmware display driver when it sees it. You gotta get rid of the evidence that its using vmware display driver. Heres what ya gotta do. Open registry editer. Go to the f
ollowing path. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\ now go to the driver desk key and shift+f10 on that, go to modify. Now delete whats in that name field you land on. Hit ok. Restart windows. Install eloquence. Youre good to go! You shouldnt get any errors from beyond here. Vocalizer for some reason gives an error saying Ve.dll is missing just ignore it, it will finish the install properly anyway. This is near completely legal as all you are doing is making yourself able to install the software, nothing more. As you can see this method does not in anyway involve stripping the drm from the software, just working around it.

Bokurano Daibouken 3 seems kinda relevant here: static things, like platforms and walls, can make sound, but only in the direction that youre facing. Meanwhile, things that move, like enemies and projectiles, make sound regardless of whether or not youre facing them. Some static objects make sound regardless--ladders, certain items and switches--but it more or less uses both approaches fairly seamlessly. It doesnt use a full on vOICe-like sonification, but maybe thatd be helpful to think about anyway?

Re: bokurano daiboukenn 3

Just how much should I do to prepare before completing 24-4? How many of the major strategy items is good to have, what weapons do I really need, what level should I be at and are there any Do not enter if your stats are worse than this limits?I havent done much with the crafting shop, because I just havent felt like going to the trouble of searching for all the components. Are there any craftable items that I absolutely need?

Re: Distancing myself from the blind community

It depends upon the online game, its security and how its run. There are many extremely good browser games and muds that entirely missout on the hacking and associated drama. Likewise, while there were trouble makers on Swamp through a lot of work on Aprones part I believe that situation has become managable, and really the worlds first audio multiplayer fps is definitely something. The issue with online games seems to be entirely that of younger, newer developers who begin a project without certain levels of experience or stability. IN some cases this leads to games that by rights should have been practice example games or should have considderably more work and thought put into them going live and all the accompanying drama. In other cases it leads to games being launched without adequate security or experienced moderation, or still worse, newer developers getting into arguements with their own friends or colleagues, arguements that of
ten result in a lot of petty and malicious behaviour, often doubly worse because such people have privilidged access to the code.Unfortunately it is a trend, that everyone suddenly wants to create an online game, but perhaps should think more carefully before doing so, and yes, its resulted in a lot of agro although the agro is more based on that situation and its not too different to other major arguements that have arisen in the past resulting from a certain trend in thinking which perhaps isnt thought through sufficiently. Itll die out in the end though, these things always do, anyone who was here a few years ago remember the row over accents? or the everyone complain about the database episode? as with most things, this too shal pass, however if everyone jumps ship at the first sign of bad weather, well itll be a pretty empty ship, and bad weather does tend to be fairly universal in any communit
y, at some point in time.

the star charting guide for dmnb

2015-07-05 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Articles Room : danny via Audiogames-reflector

the star charting guide for dmnb

Star charting on dmnb is the process of probing for previously unexplored and undiscovered planets in space. Why would I want to star chart? For one, if youve always wanted your own colony, or wanted to run your own inter steller empire, this is one of the few ways you can do it.For 2, the deep space planets discovered offen have extremely high mineral counts, allowing for massive planet cracking operations and an easy way to make mega millions.Lastly, these planets are quite useful if you want to do some building, as menny of them contain an extremely high amount of resources. To start, id suggest a lightspeed capable ship. After all, who wants to explore in a light freighter? If you can aford it, id suggest the lockheed cruiser. It has grate speed, acceleration, and awsome sensor range. You need a ship with at least 2 or more sensor range in order to look for your own discoverys. So assuming you have got your ship, and
your on the bridge. Well start by heading to a console that accepts navigational maneuvers. Using the navigation function, undock your vessel and prepare to head out into deep space.I offen like to star chart in empty space, so that other peoples planets dont get in the way, this also reduces the risk of your planet being shot at and blown up by automated space pirates and evil players who like spending time in deep space being pirates. For this exampple, well head to 4100 4100 4100. I know that seems far, just wait until you get a hold of a transwarp capable ship and youll be saying thats just a ride across the street!Assuming youve arrived, use the sensors function if your console has one. Select probe for planets. Now sit back, and let the magic machine do its automated work as it trys to seek out planets. When its done, youll be given the results of your find.OK, so I got a planet. What do I d
o with it.First off, youll want to see if its a landable planet. You can do this in 2 ways.1, use your sensors and scan the planet, and look at the number of docks it has. If it is 0, its a non livible planet and youll need to keep trying. If it is 1, set a course and prepare to beam to the surface!2, the more easy way to do it, take a look at the result you got at the end of your probe scan. If it just says, their is a new planet located near our position or some such thing like that, then it means that this planet isnt livible. However, if you got something like a number, for exampple 10, then possible landing site identified, it means its landable. If you got their are no planets in this sector, keep probing again, youll eventually pick up some. The number before possible landing site identified refers to the number of mineral pockets on the surface of the planet that planet crackers have access too. If you want to see just how much,
and just how ritch it will make a planet cracker, move towards the planet and survey it from orbit.Im not at all happy with this world. Its covered in water or their arnt enough resources.Offen times, I come across worlds I dont like, purely for lack of resources or just dont like in general, if this is the case, its time to try probing again.OK, ive found a world I like, and im going to liv on it or at least name it.Good, to go about doing this, head to the planet in your ship and select chart and name current object on sensors. Enter a name with out spaces, and youll be right as new to continue on your way.Can I make a starsystem out of these planets that im charting?Good question. And yes, you can. Forming a starsystem is quite easy, simpply choose a spot, probe until you find the suitable number of planets you like in this system, and then select set current area as starsystem on sensors. Enter
a system name, and now your system will be viewable to all on the long range star charts.
