Killer Instinct: Accessibility updates and Season 3

Killer Instinct: Accessibility updates and Season 3

I wouldve brought my former Killer Instinct thread back, but as that was created at a time when Id just started playing, I thought it better to make a new one.I will start off with what might be considered as the bad news, that Mick Gordon, who has composed the music for the first two now complete seasons of the game, is leaving to proceed with something new, which seems to be the music for the new Doom game. Knowing Micks work from KI, I think theres going to be a good score to accompany next years reboot. However, in his place come two people who have been in the process of compposing music for games for a good while, namely Atlus Plug Celldweller. The article in question includes a link to download a preview of the theme from the first guest character in the franchise, as well as the first charac
ter to be revealed for the newly confirmed Season 3, Rash from Battle Toads. It was used in the trailer, but Id say this is pretty much what theyre going to use, with maybe some mastering etc. But I like the retro introduction, as it fits in with the Killer Instinct and Battle Toads universes to a point in both cases. For those who own the game or have a chance to play it, Rash is available in a beta form up until September 8th. After that time hell be removeed until Season 3 hits in March next year. I have heard a rumour though that we might get Shadow Jago then or soon after with his new move set and maybe some other tweaks. How true that is, I cant say for certain though. You can see a trailer for Rashalong with a visual teaser at the end accompanied by what might be a preview of the characters theme..spoilerspaceThe character teased is Kim Wu and according to Wikipedia at least, Tusk is confirmed as well. So maybe Eydol and Gargos could both appear this season? Who knows.endspoilerTheres not been much information on the PC version other than the fact that cross platform play is going to be available, as well as the fact that all existing fightsticks and controllers should just work. In addition, those who own KI content on Xbox One will automatically get the same content on PC. Since I purchased the ultra editions as part of the Killer Instinct Complete Collection at a discounted price recently, I will have near enough everything from the start other than season 3. The question I have in the back of my mind is, whats the pricing going to be for the ultra edition (if one still happens), as they dont have a game to
package with it.The final thing to kick off this discussion is the announcement of the Killer Instinct 2.9 patch/update. If you read the notes, you will see the mention of new audio cues being added for Cinders burn enders (inferno and fission), as well as audio cues for shadow meter building and the KV meter during combos. These changes only serve to bring me even a slight amount of hope that when the PC version roles around, clipboard accessibility could actually be built into the game if not on launch then soon after.I will bring more information as and when I find it. Until then, let me know your thoughts on the game or raise any questions that you have.

Re: touch screen phones

On my LG Spirit phone, the two most frustrating things about using TalkBack were, one, when TalkBack is active it was nearly impossible to answer an incoming call, the answer gesture never seemed to get passed through. The other frustrating thing was that I believe LG stripped out any and all text labels for buttons that used a graphic, because many standard buttons came back as unlabeled. Bamy of the buttons on the dialpad were unlabeled, the only buttons that had labels were the 0 through 9 buttons. I have a hard time believing that Google would be so dumb as to make an accessibility option like TalkBack, then remove the resources it needs to function.

Re: and the Britain High Court says...

Hello,This likely wont happen, considering that the government put plans into motion to allow users to rip a copy (that is, one copy) of their cds for backup purposes. Also, the smartphone is the most used device in the UK for online connection, including music streaming services, so I highly doubt this will go into effect because of that. Ploiticians really dont have any idea of the potential of technology, or they are always thnking about worst case scenarios.

Re: Anyone trying to make audio game with autoit?

Yes, I created a few games in auto it. Most of them were unpublished because they were in various stages of completeness. Is it doable? Yes, and many, many people here started with Autoit before BGT became a thing. Dragon apps is one example, operation black square is done entirely in autoit. Should you do it? You can, though I wouldnt recommend it. It lacks some more advanced features like structures and isnt really designed for game development, though it can be done with the right libraries. I would suggest you take a look at Pure Basic. You will be able to cary over many things you already know from autoit here, (IE just like in autoit, pure basic starts and ends blocks with If/EndIf, While/Wend ), haas some more advanced features that will come in useful when making larger games, is cross platform if youre willing to work around some bugs, and has a very good debugger. Then theres also BGT, which is also an option but I personally wouldnt
suggest it because it isnt really developed anymore and you cant really make programs apart from games with it, while pure basic, and autoit for that matter are much more versatile and, IMO easier.

[[wow]], the lost ones? Hmm, could be my thing as well. Sounds good. @dark: yes, youre right according to the combat mechanics. In some situations, it is even funnier to influent the battles with your choices because the random number thing is more or less depending on how lucky you are. But what I like about silent gear is that both techniques have been mixed, that means, the game uses both systems. BTW, have defeated the first boss, the hint at the end was very usefull. @Mata: What do you mean with you dont use sounds? Can they be turned off seperately or are you not far enough in the game, so that they didnt appeared yet?

and the Britain High Court says...

Hey all. Well, I dont live in the UK, but I found this pretty embarrassing. The High Court in Britain has basically propsed to make Itunes completely illegal in the UK. Why, you ask? Not much more needs to be said on my part, because the article pretty much says it all.http://www.macworld.com/article/2960458 … tk.rss_allBasically to put it short, keeping digital copies of your music, even for personal use, is illegal according to some loose legal definition from the UK high-court. This includes ripping cds that you have personally bought or obtained. This to me sounds like another act of pure stupidity, orchestrated by high-and-mighty political pundits who abuse their power, but thats democracy for ya, I guess. Seriously, as long as its for your personal use, ripping a cd hould be no problem. Then again, its politicians twisted view that the digital music industry will make it easy to pirate and/or create more piracy. Yes and no. Yes, it may make it easier to pirate, but its no the system that creats the piracy, its the people using it to pirate music, that create piracy. Digital music sails have been proven successful despite how easy it is to share, especially without drm now. Its naother stupid case of power-abusing politicians that arent quite embracing the 21st century the way todays people do, making laws thinking they know what theyre doing, having no idea what theyre futzing with in the end. Reminds me of the free and open internet slamming law that happened years ago in the US, only much, much worse. Apple could be taken to Court and have to spend tons and tons and tons of money defending iTunes, hell they could even be forced to take it down in the UK. And maybe even GooglePlay Music, Amazon mp3, you name it. Put simply, if this law goes into affect, put simply, the entire digital music industry could be crippled as far as the UK is concerned. Fortunately, its just the high-court proposing this. The UK government isnt thrilled in the least with this law will not be allowed to go into affect until the government gets their final say, so lets hope thy show some decency and see this terrible wrong, and disarm this grenade before the high-court pulls the pin.

I know what you mean mby emotional sense, I get it too, hearing is a part of it, but its not all of it.Yeah, the eye contact thing can be real frustrating, because its not just eye contact, you often have to be able to see the other person to know if they are even looking in your direction. In a bar or restaurant, it does no good to signal the bartender or waiter/waitress you need something unless they are looking in your direction so they can see your signal.

OK, there wont be any commentary, so then at least you can hear the audio cues. I was thinking of doing a fight, then going through that same fight at half speed so the game is a little slower paced. Going through frame by frame would be doable but it would take a while.Which characters would you want to see? I could try and show off some combos/ideas Ive picked up as well maybe depending on if I know the characters. Ill have to turn the music down, but I could do a finishing match with the music on as well... What would you guys like to hear in a cue-focused audio proof of existance demo?

On my phone those buttons didnt act like on screen buttons, because they actually werent on screen. So moving your finger over them didnt cause TalkBack to read them. Since their positions were always fixed, I simply learned where they were and went from there. If youve never used one before, getting used to the on screen keyboard will take some getting used to. It just comes with practice.

Re: mini-game ideas

How about some varients on little arcade style games that test your judgement or reactions. For example, maybe instead of simon style pattern matching, you hear the sequence of tones but instead of needing to press the corresponding key, you have to physically pick the tones up and move them similarly to how the old bone pipes level was in Hunter. For example, lets say you started with a four tone pattern that was played left to right c, f, b, g.You then cycle through the four tones with your arrow keys and press space to pick up a tone, and need to pick up the c and put it to the far left column, pick up the g and put it to the far right etc. Youd just need the tone noises playing in sterrio and some sounds, such as a click for pickup and put down. Another idea might be something based on the sterrio targeting principle, but requiring you to do a little more than just hit when in center. For example lets say you were given a target tone of
a certain pitch and were told higher or lower by sapi. Then various tone objects went right to left and you needed to hit space for those in the center, however only for the ones that were higher or lower than the target. To keep things interesting, instead of doing this in predetermined rounds, occasionally youd hear a click and a new target tone play quickly in the right or left sterrio ield and sapi say higher or lower meaning youd need to constantly change your sterrio targeting tactics and couldnt just get stuck into a rut of center and hit, center and hit. A final idea i had might be an estimation game similar to Jim Kitchins golf. In Jim Kitchins golf, the power indicater for each club is a rising tone sound, and how far the ball goes depends upon first what club you use and second how much power, eg, three quarters up the sound of the pitching wedge will send the ball 100 yards, while the same position for th
e 1wood would send the ball about 280 yards. Well my thought is a game based on this principle, but random. So, you hear a tone and are told a number, ie, the pitch of that tone indicates that number on the scale. You then are told what target your aiming for, ie, what number and hear an ascending scale tone and have to stop it when you reach what you believe to be the target number based on your previous guess. You know all scales start from zero, so you know where your starting, but what the relationship of ascending pitch vs ascending number is you will need to estimate as best you can from just the one clu. I hope Ive explained this well enough, essentially itd be like playing Jim Kitchins golf but with a randomly sized club that kept morphing each shot, and the only information you have on the power of that random club is how part of the power indicator sound file corresponds to a number. Just to mess with peoples
brains even further, you could even have the speed of the tones of the ascending scale vary as wel to prevent a person just counting seconds. An easy game probably not, but hopefully a rather addictive one.

Hi GreenGablesFfan.First, you need to set up Cortana.Do this with these steps:1. Go to the start menu and write Cortana in the edit box.2. Tab around until you hear, list: home. arrow down until you hear notebook, and press enter. After that, you need to tab around again, I cant remember what it says but it will say something like set up, hey cortana, button, press enter on that and tab around and you should get to a button that allows you to set up your microphone.Note: NVDA numpad six is a great thing to use hear if youre using NVDA to read the words you need to say to get Cortana to recognize your voice. Once thats all set up, you should be able to say, hey Cortana, and straight away after ask your question. For example; hey cortana, whats the weather like today. You should also be able to use windows C to talk to Cortana as well.As for setting up an alarm, simple ask cortana to, set alarm, or set
up an alarm, then cortana will ask you for the time of the alarm, tell her the time you want it set for and youre done!To stop the alarm from playing press windows A. to bring up the action center window.I hope this helps and if not, please tell me where youre having issues and Ill try to help. ive managed to set cortana up with no problems and Im using NVDA.

Re: and the Britain High Court says...

Hmmm, Im going to have to check this one with my brother, sinse firstly Im not exactly sure which High court is involved here, eg, european court of trade or actually one of the main legislative boddies that proposes legal changes to the government, and secondly the law lords are usually rather more sensible than this.In general with the hole digital music and information thing i personally wish all these fat publishers, Itunes included would stop trying to curtail distributions with drm and other methods and just realize were entering an age where redistribution of information is free, no need to pay book binders and reccord producers anymore, and the basic model in which authors and bands are contracted, often at a basic lump some or at selling the rights directly while some middle management agency sucks in all the prophet from the actual sale of different copies of their work like a great big hoover just wont wash anymore, sinse peopl
e could now buy copies directly from the authors or bands themselves, oh but that would not make prophet for the publishers would it!. Copywrite and distribution is such a huge mess generally and what is legal vs what is actually moral are often two very different things, particularly sinse frequently the laws just exist for the safety of the fat coorporations not the creative people who make anything or the fans who consume it. Even if however this is indeed proposed to the government, as Aaron said I really! cant see this one passing or being even vaguely enforceable, though I have to say Ive not got that much sympathy for Itunes, not when Apple themselves make it so hard to intigrate Itunes with anything else or any other device, sinse after all its easy enough to copy music or audio files into! Itunes, getting them out again though that is the question, indeed this is why even before I gave up entirely with Itunes I refused to buy anything th
rough the system, sinse if I buy some music or audiobook or whatever that should be mine to play on whatever device I so choose. Then again I fully agree if indeed the law is stating that existing digital cds cant be copied into! Itunes, then its definitely wrong, indeed this is one of the stupid parts of copywrite law, trying to tell people what to do with things they already own. Btw, Ill also say this is why the sites no game cracks policy has only a vague relationship to the law and is about supporting individual developers of audiogames.

Re: and the Britain High Court says...

Exactly, Dark. And as for drm, as far as I know, unless youre using their subscription service Apple Music, all itunes tracks are completely drm free. Even when tracks were rapped in drm and given the so-called .m4p extention, it wasnt Apple doing this of their own accord, it was the fat recordlabels forcing it on Apple to make drm versions of digital songs. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Now, as for copying your songs outa itunes, your songs are .m4a. If you want to copy them onto a player that supports only .mp3, no problem, theres an mp3 encoder built in to itunes, you just have to turn it on. Do not, do not, use any external converter like gold waves batch conversion utilities to convert to mp3, it wil make the song unplayable. Not drm, but probably a bug with itunes tracks. But the mp3 encoder in Itunes is mostly lossless and the quality doesnt degrade when converting tracks. Its quite tedious though as youll end up with both the mp
3 and m4a versions of those songs in your music folder. And as for pulling your music outa itunes and onto other devices, while itunes may seem slef-contained, your downloaded tracks are inside your my music folder. /documents and settings/yourusername/my music/itunes/itunes media/music should be the default. Its organized by artist and maybe even genre. Back on topic, yes, the copyright laws have pretty much lost all moral integrity altogether. Yeah, we get that artists do wanna protect their rights, completely valid. But they shouldnt be restricting what you can do with music you have already purchased and to which you own the downloaded tracks. Its these big recordlabels that are still squealing though, not all of its Apples doing. Truth be told, Apple is! starting to distribute music from unsigned, independent artists. Even so, artists could always sell their music on a website too, and that way they could even choose any file format. Some artists,
particularly indie artists are embracing the lossless flac format, shame not many players support it yet. Im sure these signed artists would love to do such a thing, but the recordlabel is in control of the artist in question, which is the past now. We dont need record producers to be making cds, amazon could keep doing that on their own terms. As for the no cracking policy yes! Its definitely not about the law, more about the respect and support of the devs. People who ask for cracks are going against the site not because we think that the dev in question might go crazy and call a lawsuit on this whole site, but because it goes against the dev creating games for us. Devs dont charge for games so that they can squelch up as much money as they can to have enough of a backbone to win any lawsuit think Microsoft, but simply because! game development costs money. Yeah, bgt might be free, but sound libraries, theres barely any up to par one
s that are actually free. Voice actors? Not goin for cheep. So every sail counts as we do not wanna see more devs close or stop selling their games. Weve had it happen to a lot of notable devs. While we cant keep every! dev in line and not close their doors, we oughta just do our part to keep the devs around for as long as manageable, is what we oughta do.

2015-08-06 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : sneak via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Should HC get a reset in Swamp? Time to vote!

I think this is a good idea. HC is a highly intensive PVP aspect. So consider this. Lets say theres two warring groups in HC right now. Theyre at eachothers throats and this is enough to keep them both from being able to keep their forts stocked with food for any long amounts of time. Eventually though one of these groups is either going to get burned out, or fragment due to internal drama. Its inevitable. At this point the remaining group is free to stock pile food, resources and whatever materials they want without assault. Now enters group 3 a few months down the road. Fresh batch of new players. This new group still theoretically has a chance, however, the first group has a huge advantage. They will have levels, they will have resources, and they will have had experience. If we incorporate regular HC resets this will help regulate the ability to hold down forts for long periods of time. The only problem I forsee being an issue is not giving a prop
er goal for them to achieve. There needs to be some kind of reward system for HC players to want to go through the trouble of leveling up in HC and fighting with other players just to be reset sometime in the future and left to do it all over again. You could give the clan with the most forts or with the most collective food a title and maybe even give them a permanent starting weapon. Instead of the glock, they could start out with maybe a shotgun. You could even make it entirely random. Possibly make it a point based system. Points could be scored like this. Each food counts as one point. Number of forts multiplies that number equal to the number of forts owned by that clan, divided by the number of members. This way membership management also becomes a factor, so having the biggest baddest clan isnt the beat all strategy. Anyway, thats all I can type for now. I hope I brought up some good points for everybody to consider. HTH.

Re: Considering switching to Java, recommended resources for learning how

@Ethin, I certainly can not deny C++ is not the easiest programming language to learn, but most game developers, professional game developers, feel it is the best for game development. Contrary to what you may have heard or believe most mainstream games are developed in C++ ore more than likely developed with a game engine that was written in C++ and wrapped with a scripting language which simplifies game development. Developing games in C++ is not as complicated or hard as you seem to suggest, and many people have written complete and fully functional games in C++. So you are cutting the language short for what I suspect are some personal biases against the language.Calling it a miracle if anyone ever wrote a fully functional game in C++ truly underscores how little you know about the subject at hand. As a matter of fact the majority of professional game programming books presume you have a working knowledge of C++ and teach game programming from a C++ game dev
elopers perspective. While it is not always written from a newbie or beginners perspective the fact is the more one becomes familiar with C++ the easier it gets. So it isnt as hard or as difficult as you claim. It is like anything else in life the more you practice the better you get and can do more advanced stuff. As for MOTA. Lets not bring that into the subject since that has absolutely no bearing on weather or not C++ is a good language for game development. the reason the game is currently incomplete has nothing to do with C++ and everything to do with my current health issues and lack of time or energy to work on it. The games current state would be the same regardless if I was writing it in Visual Basic, Python, Java, or any other language you might suggest instead of C++ because development has been halted due to my own personal issues not the language and tools being used.

Re: Should HC get a reset in Swamp? Time to vote!

I have a single reason for a one-time reset. The fort system was broken before. A clan could take all 20 forts, and gain thousands of levels with ease. This is no longer the case. Things are way more balanced now. This is my only reason for wanting a reset. After this is done once, I dont see a need for it to happen again, as everyone will be on an even playing field as long as there arent any drastic changes to HC mode in future.

Re: Should HC get a reset in Swamp? Time to vote!

Although I havent had much HC experience on Swamp since its early stages (when it was easier to convert ), even in those early days it was obvious that the same exact problem was going on. A handful of people would get together in a clan, or even a handful of clans get together, and they would build up continuously until they owned most or even all of the forts available in the game. These dedicated players would continuously pile and pile up supplies until they were virtually unbeatable. Many players would accuse these players of cheating, and some of them were, but a lot of them were just dedicated, committed players of Swamp who had skill they they put to use. Regardless of how it is done though, capturing every fort (or even the majority of all forts) for oneself isnt fair in any way to the Swamp community. Which brings us to the proposal of occasional HC resets to k
eep the game balanced and fair to all. I believe that occasional resets would be a great idea to keep certain players from overpowering the rest of the Swampverse, but I dont think that a full reset would be necessary (not saying anyone specifically suggested a full reset). Maybe a system could be set up where occasionally every fort in Swamp is reset, but clan members can have some sort of opportunity to retrieve a small amount of the equipment they had stored in the fort so they arent just left with nothing. Every fort could be set on an extremely long timer (maybe a timer of several months). Once the timer ran out, the fort could spontaneously catch fire or experience some other catastrophe that would destroy the fort. If any clan members are online, they could travel to the fort and have an opportunity to retrieve a small percentage of their equipment before it is lost to the catastrophic event. After a period of time, the fort could be regenerated. I feel the
above suggestion would help HC players feel better about a reset instead of just having a message sent to everyone saying that all forts have been cleared and are now fair game. Just my thoughts...P.S. The above made me think of possible weather incorporation into Swamp. I know it has been discussed before, but it would be interesting. Think about it. It could rain some day, turning certain areas containing dirt terrain into mud, or flooding the rivers turning nearby terrain into water...

I could write a game in C if I had the patience to hunt down all the necessary libraries to handle audio in a non-headache way.Well, maybe. Memory management and some of the nifty objects like dictionaries and easily resizable arrays are a bit frustrating to build from scratch. But Ive looked into programming for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive, where your choices are either ASM or C. What keeps me from doing anything with it isnt the C, so much as the lack of any decent accessible way to create datafiles like XGM.The principals are the same no matter what language youre using. It really comes down to libraries and hardware more than the language itself.

Hello and welcome to the forum bondswell. I second Jacks thought here. We love games with cool storylines and music, the problem unfortunately is if a blind person cant actually play them that doesnt help too much. Depending upon how your game is designed access might not be as difficult as you imagine sinse contrary to a lot of opinions, access doesnt mean removing all graphics or slowing gameplay down to a crawl. An action game can be accessible with sterrio sound kews, (weve got games listed on this site from 3D adventure to first person shooter), while an rpg or slower pased game can be made accessible either by outputting text in a form readable with a screen reader, or by adding voice acting and audio menus. A little introductory information on game access can be found in the resourcessection of this site or on This site from 7-128 software, plus of course wed
be very glad to help with any answered questions, testing etc.

You could give the clan with the most forts or with the most collective food the winner, or make it a point based system. Points could be scored like this. Each food counts as one point. Re: mini-game ideas

Do you mean little things like Simon (where you hear a sound pattern and you must repeat it back), or something a bit more original?Variations on just the Simon idea could be that you must repeat the pattern back backwards. Another could be that you hear a series of 5 different notes, and you must play your own 5 notes so that none match. So if your 3rd note happened to be the same as the original 3rd note, you fail.

Re: Jack Kudos

Hello and welcome to the forum bondswell. I second Jacks thought here. We love games with cool storylines and music, the problem unfortunately is if a blind person cant actually play them thats not too helpful, indeed the world is full of games with cool storylines and music that are sadly unplayable . A little intr
oductory information on game access can be found in the resourcessection of this site or on This site from 7-128 software, plus of course wed be very glad to help with any answered questions, testing etc.

Re: The rules of good discussion, please read

You can certainly tell a lot from hearing movements etc, though the emotional sense I speak of is not exactly that, sinse I cant usually point to a cause, though its certainly true none of this exists on the net. The main problem communication wise I find funnily enough isnt specifically telling what people are feeling, but actually initiating conversation in the first place especially in crowded environments because of bloody eye contact! So many instant judgements are made about you if you cant do eye contact its unbelievable and there is a ridiculous amount of culture riding on it, indeed the entire club culture and socialization in environments where the ambient noise level makes conversation impossible is based on eye contact, not to mention the hole business of getting served in a bar or a shop or restaurant, initiating conversations with strangers etc. There are so many psychological experiments where people find those who dont make
eyecontact instantly untrustworthy or the like, its basically an instant social judgement against you which people make even before you have spoken to them, not even based on disability, just based on something you cant do, indeed its interesting when I compared experiences to a friend of mine who is in a wheel chair and the sort of attitudes and instant acceptance she got were %100 different from my usual status as something to be ignored and avoided.Sometimes I think blind people should ware hats saying I cant make eye contact but Im still a human being dont ignore me accept that that would inevitably have the opposite affect from what is desired, so yes, I hate eye contact, or at least I hate the fact that so many judgements are instantly made against you because you cant do it, indeed its sort of amusing that most people when questions would say yes, its good to treat disabled people properly a
nd then will still ignore you because of lack of sodding eye contact.
