Hello,I see what you mean as this list being taken as a “end-all” or standard audio game design guide. I don’t want that to happen at all. I see it as being a tool in the ideation process, giving developers, who know nothing about the audiogame community, some idea of what other games have done and what we can expect when we are given an app. The group I am with has nothing to do with games, we are trying to present graphs in an auditory format.Let’s see if I’m barking up the right tree here.Please take a look atMy first initial prototype for a pie graph and a bar graphWhat do you think?

I enjoy varying types of muds, but few of them will be pure roleplay. With that in mind, here are my top 5, picking one from each general playstyle.Godwars 2: For pure mechanics and breadth of character building and control detail, it's hard to beat Godwars 2. Every strike you land is voluntary, there is no automatic combat aside from the generic newbie autoscript put in place for convenience (which essentially just performs the techniques you yourself could better select anyway). There are no rooms to speak of, aside from buildings place hither and thither; GW2 is built on a coordinate system, with areas that take up actual world terf.Dark Legacy: The extensive crafting, character, and exploration variations and opportunities of DL can't really be written about -- one has to experience it all to under stand how awesome this mud 
 *could* be. I say could be, because it has sadly gone downhill in the player base department, along with developmental stagnation. What is there, though, is amazing, if you can overlook typos and minor bugs which probably won't ever be addressed. The world is expansive, it comes with a screen reader friendly mode to help navigate the world map, and has a feature list that I won't even attempt to enumerate.Epitaph: An awesome zombie appocalypse mud with a deep crafting and questing system, this mud makes extensive use of MXL to format text and provide a click-friendly interface. Post 4 means to me a lot man, thanks caccio. That's exactly why I stick to Clok and never seem to want to go rp anywhere else.Anyway it seems that the only soundpack mentioned is Alter Aeon. There are actually lots of muds with packs out there, some of them being good. I still have a bit to do for Cyber Assault pack before re-releasing the pack again.

I do want to know where you found that... lol. Each infinity stone only has one ability, and they aren't necessarily buffs for your character, which is extended by what they're calling the infinity surge, or storm.. one of the two, the video mentions it specifically.

You can get both the executable for the server and the source code. https://github.com/munawarb/Three-D-VelocityAlso, you can connect to the server now using the latest version of the game. Please be mindful that it's been a long, long time since I've tested the server, so it's bound to be unstable in places, especially since I had to remove the code for add-ons and things since this was commercial only. That having been said, I think your list is very, very general.. and it communicates a very different message than what I think you are trying to create. They can use whatever the developer would like them to use.One needs to center monsters in headphones and shoot themSounds from behind are muffled or lower in volume or pitchThis describes the first person shooter genre, and that is the problem with putting this as a convention... this will lead many to assume that is what has to happen in every shooter, which is why shooters in the audiogames market h
 ave become stale, because that is all you do. Center, shoot, center, shoot, center, shoot, center... etc etc etc. That is why even multiplayer shooters like RTR aren't enjoyable, because it boils down to who can center and shoot the fastest, which often boils down to luck. The definition of 2d and 3d games is also inaccurate, as is the assumption that all levels in 2d games have to start going right.I'm not trying to criticize, just that there are better ways to create a how to document for creating accessible games. Game developers know how to make games, we don't need to tell them how to make them... because in the end, all an audiogame is is a game with no graphics. The only thing developers have to do to make good audiogames is ad auditory cues to relay normally visual information. the rest is the same as making any game.

This list will help bring to light assumptions Audio Gamers have when presented with an application. It is not an audio games developer guide, but
  it is a list of thoughts that go through a player's mind when they open an audio game for the first time.I would say most of these are not thoughts that go through a user's mind when they open an audio game for the first time, rather they're a list of control schemes and design ideas held by some games, not by all, and the whole list reads in a way that suggests developers should take note of these conventions, when they don't really matter in the scheme of things. 3d games don't have to use the left mouse button to move, or arrows. Center, shoot, center, shoot, center, shoot, center... etc etc etc. That is why even multiplayer shooters like RTR aren't enjoyable, because it boils down to who can center and shoot the fastest, which often boils down to luck.I'm not trying to criticize, just that there are better ways to create a how to document for creating accessible games. Game developers know how to make games, we don't need to tell them how to make them... because in the end, all an audiogame is is a game with no graphics. The only thing developers have to do to make good audiogames is ad auditory cues to relay normally visual information. the rest is the same as making any game.

Actually, training armor does actually work, but the change is unnoticeable so it may or may not be worth it anyways. If you have other skills, raze them first. Razing weapons will definitely help you.

Hi.Well just thought I'd hit this topic for good measure.Situation is this.As I am in new zealand I need to listen to archives of the stream as I am never round for live broadcast.It was fine till the april1 stream.The archive of that was fine.The streams continued, but there have been no updates to pg13lp twitter or site.Emailing piter just didn't get a responce and since draggonapps.org has this capcha thing with image I had to jump through the forum to do email to there which I just did.I have sent 1 dm and reply to tweats on pg13lp.There havn't been any archives for basically april.And I really want those to continue, usually they appear an hour or so after streaming.Now they are behind and I would really want them.If this doesn't get pg13 to actually notice my messages I am not sure what is up.

Well.You could try a system restore to before you installed that program.You could try sfc/scannowYou could just reformat and restore from the recovery partition.I am affraid the fraze rtfm comes here if you did in fact rdfm then you wouldn't have this issue.You probably just cleared the ms visual c compilers if you download and install all visual c compilers from ms download centre then it will be fine.

Dark,I think the microphone is busted, damaged, malfunctioning.I would take it back to the store and demand a refund and get another brand just to be safe.I'm very hard on headsets and it's usually the microphone part that quits first.My last microphone lasted 9 months.I tend to buy cheep sets, but one time I bought an expensive set and it didn't last any longer.I have to assume the computer isn't a laptop that you could take to the store and have them install the microphone.But if you do have a laptop with a USB port, you could take that one to the store just to try the mike out.

Haven't tried, unfortunately, so many muds yet, only a few... So in fact I have four, but one of them is written on my native language, and I am not sure if that I'll post here about it people could be agree with me.Well 1 is: Alter Aeon, of corse! An awsome game, very interesting quests and jobs, the amount of marvelous zones just makes me crazy. Yes simply, I love it.  Also here I am totally agree with Dark, meaning about soundpack etc.2 and 3... My mind seems to be overloaded, I like Prometheus, but due to the fact that some bad things there started to happen, and am not talking about server crashes in particular... Thinking about Cosmic Rage too, even though before I wasn't so happy with it, maybe just cause didn't understand how to play and saddly I had no friends there for helping me. But things got changed, I'd try this game long tim

Hmmm, what is interesting here for me is learning about muds I've never heard of. When I tried epitaff the amount of info in combat made even the tutorial nearly impossible to get through since I kept missing tutorial messages, though I did hear that got fixed. Likewise, cyber assault is a game I tried back in 2011 or so and found the combat rather spammy. Again I believe this got fixed, plus when I tried I didn't know much about setting prompts or the like. I do also recall not particularly liking the writing in the game, with the amount of recommendations I've heard I probably ought to give the game another chance. Star mud is one I've never heard of Orin, but it's interesting you mention medeivia. Way back in 2008 or so I remember someone raving about the game. When I got vipmud up in 2010 I very briefly tried it out, but whenever I looked at the help in the game things seemed so heavily ascii text orientated with no way
  around I wasn't sure on what to do where and never got back to the gameafter the first day.I also recall some sort of controversy about the game and admins being unfair to players in some way, but again since I only heard this second hand I can't confirm, and the help with the randomly generating dungeons and locations and the trading system and such seemed really awesome, indeed nott exactly like other muds I've seen despite a fairly standard dicu like codebase and some less than unique classes and races. I just checked and the medeivia website is still up, though a brief search of the help files stil didn't reveal anything about ascii alternatives.

This is great, keep the ideas coming! This is exactly why we have a list like this. You are all experts and most everyone is saying "I don't like what is being done" This is what leads to inovation. Without this list, what is being done is not as clear.Experts break the rules of what has been done before, newbies have a condensed overview of what is common knowledge when an audiogamer plays a game. It is just like music theory. Composers aren't thinking of theory when they compose, they are thinking about what will make the music sound good. But lots of composers have studied what other composers have done and they have studied music theory.

Best of wishes; since the beginning of this year they've been rather dictatorial about what they allow and what constitutes a soundpack owing to scripts, triggers, bla bla bla bla.  Honestly, I don't know why these space moo devs don't just call it quits on this particular stance and let everyone script to their own ends, given they're going to script anyway and it's not exactly decramental to the game itself and would honestly give everyone a much more open and level playing field.  More people sharing scripts, less issues about who has what soundpack and whether it's legal according to the such and such policy; I mean, it's not like they're stealing passwords or manipulating the code to get themselves more points or credits.  It's just all sorts of childish to expect everyone to type at precisely the same rate and be able to cope with the fast pace of combat on any of these games, which is actually part of the reason I 
 had such great hopes for prometheus and cosmic rage.  The former, however, is unstable in that nothing remains consistent owing to the whims of the developer, while the latter is not my idea of newby friendly, so I never recommend it.

To my thinking, that is exactly the problem. Since the inception of audio games, particularly action ones, developers have relied on the same designs and conventions from the very beginning. How many side scrolling actions games have left and right for movement, jumping with the up arrow, space bar for the weapons, number row for inventory and h for health? The answer is pretty much all of them... whereas even the beat em ups from the 80s had slightly varying mechanics and controls, so none of them played exactly alike.Area-based menus, as Kai said, are not designed to have things done quickly and have it be that. They are designed that way to help introduce the player to the game world, as well as to possibly aquaint you with npcs in the game. Shadow Rine has implemented this idea in the merchant system where you have to actually locate someone in the game world to enter a shop menu, whereas other games, in a less fun approach in my opinion, have a shop menu you can access
  from any time, anywhere. While it is convenient, it certainly doesn't teach me much about the world or immerse me in it. Personally, I think if there is a how to document written for potential indie developers, it should focus more on relaying audio information and making information available to the player, while still having enough freedom for the developers to do what they want in the area of base game design and controls. For example, if a developer is considering making a final fight type game, aka a 2d beat em up, I don't want it to be another move left and right, hammer space as much as possible, press the number 2 to cycle to a different weapon, hammer space, then jump a pit,  rince and repeat. And the one key thing I would stres is ramping up the difficulty does not mean piling on more health for enemies or damage dealt by such, but more complexity in how enemies behave, or an increase in reaction speed from the player's part being required to fi
 nish something.

@roelvdwal: I'm not seeking to replace any establishede conventions for menu designs, nor am I arguing that an interactive menu area is going to be designed with efficiency in mind. My idea for an area-based menu setup is purely for uniqueness, with a good degree of immersion and atmosphere in mind. If the menu looks like the game and behaves like the game, then players are automatically introduced to the world. Mentioning the menu wasn't the point of my argument, however, it was just a supporting reason why we shouldn't expect developers to constrain themselves to a staid design.Kai

My top five, in no particular order--I've been playing muds for about 12+ years now...1. Medievia - I haven't played this one in quite a while, but that doesn't mean I don't like the gameplay and systems. A unique death system that makes it possible to not lose anything, a trade system and ship system with the concept of mobfactions to keep groups on their feet, and a pretty active playerbase, still, make this mud a worthy game to play.2. Cosmic Rage - It's a space game clone, but it's a worthy space game clone with a variety of activities you won't find anywhere else. However, some systems are almost identical to other games, E.G. Space Combat. It's the one I'm playing currently.3. Frandum - Is there even another singleplayer MUD? This is the only one I know of, and I like it because it feels like I'm playing a console RPG with the amount of detail it has.4. GateWay MUD - This is one I haven't played 
 in a while, but I do like its guilds, quests--when I can find them, and unique guild abilities.5. StarMud - Hack and Slash Scifi MUD with interesting guilds--Perhaps CyberAssault is better now that that's around.

Mine are:1. Clok: some people probably think I'm some kind of advertiser for this mud already, lol. I'm actually not the advertiser of any mud. I really and truly love it. It's one of very few  place in the world I can feel my free spirit flow, can see my imagination grow, and can see my fictional characters have lives out of my own books.2. Cyber Assault: of all hack and slash mud, I have to debate between alter and this one, and decide which I should choose. I love the two quite as much, but Ca draws me in better in terms of randomness. And can you imagine leveling possessed melee weapons to make them stronger? Craft brilliant stuffs and have them as strong as your enhanced self? Have fantasy, futuristic and modern taste mixed in one mud which is not necessary quest-based? If there was random eq system on ca, I would have loved it even more.3. Frandum: the best single player mud ever. Sure it gets me scratch my head a billion times over ever
 ything, from something simple, bug, to one heck of many things a simple mind can't think of. Or it could be just something that makes sense but I miss because of one single word I forgot to notice...but that's what I like about it. The admins are awesome too.4. Alter Aeon: already mentioned. I play it on and off, and lose motivation after a while. But I always get back and play again after that while passes. It's always like that.5. Epitaph: if my university internet didn't block its port, or if the devs decided to open another for me, it would have been better. This mud could be an extreme fuss, but it has its own uniqueness, and I wish to see more of this type of post apocalyptic stuff around, easier to access and have as awesome features and contents as this mud.

@Phil I was just using voice recorder to try the mike out to see if it was working before I attempted to use it with skype or anything else. Though oddly enough voice recorder is recording, or at least when I hit start recording it starts recording and I can play back that recording, there is just nothing in it. it doesn't seem to be working in Cortana or speech recognition setup either, I get "the computer cannot hear you clearly" indeed right now I'm still not sure this damthing is even working. It's apparently a prosound stand mike at least according to my dad reading the lable,  maybe that is why, you need to get a pro to get any sound on the stupid thing!

For example, in captain dynamite and the fallen hero you perform the actions such as punch block and jump using the x c and z keys. in the context of  rhythm action games these are pretty cool controls, all next to each other (actually I felt rather as if I were using a joypad while using those). If however a developer is told "audiogames usually use control and space" we would have lost that. Does it matter in the scheme of things? Well not realy, but the controls did make the game feel different to others. Similarly, look at how spacebar is used in castaways to turn off the clock rather than to select things, and how castaways uses instant letter shortcuts as an alternative to the menu with curser keys to get to your different types of people.Heck, if you want to see a game w
 ith about the least standard controls you could find, look at tube sim. There are far more important things developers do! need to put into potential audiogame design around the audio interface itself, lessons that have! been learned from games of the past and would make major problems if they are missed, indeed frequently people complain if they are. Consider how often a new developer comes up with a game and misses something like clearly indicating in audio the position of an enemy or other object, actually it seems one of the main mistakes made by some new developers is to assume that difficulty equats to simply by increasing the confusion of the soundscape, eg by throwing as much at the player as possible rather than giving the  more difficult problems of judgement and learning. After all it's much better to have a game which is hard but where you know exactly how and why you died, than one where you die just because you can't hear what

Dark,I don't use voice recorder because of it's stupid settings.I think you have to specify a sound format and recording length before it will work.I use Gold Wave, Team Talk and Studio Recorder from American Printing House, but it is still very expensive but I think has a demo mode to try it out.

Greetings, it's me again, the "oh so annoying", excentric, veteran gamer Caccio!This is a sheer "out of curiosity-type" forum-topic, which I created with a primary intention, to find out more about Your, other VIP-gamer's taste, meaning priorities and expectations regarding game-MUDs.So please, feel free to post Your personal top 5 list of game-MUDs here, along with the main reasons for Your each choice.In order to make this initial post shorter, I shall name only the "pros", and skip the "contras" for my decisions.So my top 5 MUD list is currently the following:1. ClokReasons: in order to avoid my long praises of this MUD, please read my regarding post, which is under number 65, in my previous forum-topic called "Quests, quests, quests...", here in the general forums.2. MirianiReasons: The largest number of regular, active players, and the best, most sophisticated soun
 dpack, at least of those I discovered so far. Tons of shops, with very detailed items and alternatives.3. PrometheusReasons: An easy, but still very diverse game, with a small, but quite friendly community. Tons of shops, with very detailed items and alternatives.4. Cosmic RageReasons: A large variety of featured activities, in an interesting, sympathic enviroment.5, Materia MagicaReasons: A vast game-map to explore, with a large variety of creatures, monsters to fight.

Hay, good topic. I will list my top five in no particular order, though of course with the caveat that I am still trying muds out and have more to investigate, both for the db and for personal preference.1: Alteraeon. The more games I try the more I respect alteraeon. Combat that is interesting and gives you lots of abilities to play with rather than just typing "kill" and wailing away, lots of items preparations, very well written zones and quests that even reward you for exploring. This is of course quite aside from the soundpack which virtually makes it a full audio rpg. 2: Cosmic rage: many great activities, a friendly player base and frequent updates, also great to see a space world not dominated by pvp. The soundpack is good too.3: Frandom: probably the most unique mud for advancement being that killing means nothing in this game, huge amounts to discover and a beautifully described world with a very rich and coherent history
  and law, not to mention very friendly admins and other players. 4: Clok: still the best for craftingand exploring and a realistic experience, I particularly love theand survival in this one, with the many activities that you can learn and master. 5: The sadly departed Wayfar1444: I feel a little bad listing a mud that is no longer around, but it's a dam shame since I spent many happy hours here setting up my space colony, exploring the randomly generated planets and building literally everything! from camp fires to trucks (I never quite got to build my own starship but I was almost there). Also an actually sensible remort system that it was possible to progress through rather easily and get rewards from.I dam well hope the game comes back up.Others I have tried (ie, played for long enough to get into and have a basic idea what they are about), and some brief thoughts: Aardwolf: A quick and easy pick up and play game, great for sudde
 n bursts of fighting and instant autoquests where advancement is fairly rapid (albeit there is a long way to advance). Particularly nice for shortcutting a lot of things like needing to minimax equipment or hunt around for mobs,  freeing you up to sit back and enjoy the descriptions and the carnage.Area goals however are rather unfair in this one and autoquests can paul after a while. Erion: Like aardwolf but with more coherent zones, far fewer players, actually more interesting and unique combat, as well as a host of little extras from events to random item drops to player run house organizations with different styles and competitions keep things interesting. The only really major problem with erion is that advancement is rather slow, unless you constantly play in hardcore mode. more missions are being added to the game though,, so this is probably one to watch.Classic six dragons: Quests are really good here and area sdescriptions and theme is
  great. Combat is also more interesting since you tend to get fewer techniques and spells that matter, but make more difference, there is even crafting. The only problem with six dragons is again, advancement is a little slow.Oh and it has a good soundpack too. 7th plane: A great mud for systems and exploring, especially you pretty much njeed to find everything yourself. I just really! wish there were more descriptions. 4dimentions: wonderful crafting, beautifully written zones, and a veryand unique fun theme. Only problem is quests are rally obscure, and other players aren't particularly good about sharing information about them. Combat isn't as fun in this one, since your techniques and spells don't do as much, (though ranged combat is rather fun), however this is a game more about the questing and exploring, in particular the crafting is wonderful and a great way to advance without getting board with monster murder.
 Fluxworld: Again, this is rather like frandom and a game with virtually no combat. The theme and setting is wonderfully unique, being set on an alien planet in the future, you can simply wander about and explore and poke your nose into things. However actually finding thingsdo, either quests, crafting activities or whatever seemed a little difficult, meaning this one is more like being tourist than playing a game (though some of the in built puzzles are fun, ever fancied playing human mine sweeper?). MAteriamagica: Wonderful random wilderness map and exploring, and some unique races and classes. Combat seemed a bit long winded, but on the plus side things like elemental effects, different weapon types and attacks etc looked fun to play with. The only really major problem I had in this one was that finding stuff to do was very! difficult being that when I played at the time, generated quests from an official quest giver were time locked and marks, aka, quests yo
 u discover from npcs were  capped, meaning you could literally level yourself out of doing stuff. This meant either you had to spend a lot of time playing with an open wiki, or wander around at

i don't want it to happen, imagine this. you've worked your socks off getting 350 coins and you get a tank. someone kills you, and boom! there goes your grinding effort getting those coins, tank and fuel tanks

Keep in mind that these are conventions, or if I understand it correctly, a summing up of things how they are done now. These aren't guiding principles, they are baselines, so people don't reinvent what's already been done.And the idea of a menu area sounds interesting, but what will it improve? menus with first-letter navigation work fine, why should they be replaced?The only benefit I see to it is that they will add more atmosphere, but you would either have to put many things very close together or you'd spend a longer time walking there, which is fun for the first few times, until you just want to get it done and it gets annoying.
