Re: A software in development to enable deeper communication

I'm glad to hear that you'll look into the encryption side of things, we'll see where that goes.To be honest, I agree with Defender that this sort of thing doesn't necessarily need to be powered by an AI, although it puts an intriguing spin on things which I am quite curious about.I would like to see such a system do something else, though. In an ideal world, people who are experiencing depression, which is often fueled by isolation, would be able to seek resources such as therapy if they need it. This can be harder for people with disabilities, especially if they don't have insurance, and only live on SSI or similar. There are online therapy platforms now such as Talkspace, which are supposedly cheaper while providing the same benefits as traditional face-to-face therapy. The problem is, are they accessible with screen readers? Most people who would want to seek such services would never be brave enough to ask that, especially since they would most likely have to do so on public forums, risking their names being tied back to the fact that they asked for such information, and we all know how great the stigma around mental health issues is. Even if you have a username which has nothing to do with your real name, you'd have to put a great deal of thought into making a different one, complete with a different IP address courtesy of a VPN, a disposable email address, etc., if you really wanted to make sure that no one, such as future employers, could never trace your question about seeking mental health services back to you. As blind people, we already face enough barriers to potential employment. If employers are even half as voracious in seeking information about their potential employees as I've been lead to believe, something as simple as trying to seek accessible resources in this vein could sink you.My point is, this is why I'm pushing so hard for the encryption side of things. There could be a network of therapists, or even medical providers, who sign up for this, and agree to take referrals for clients/patients, while agreeing to be disability-friendly. This, in my opinion, is of far greater urgency and importance than a pen pal service, although I agree that the novelty of such a thing is what initially drew me to the topic.

Re: SoundRTS, a real-time strategy audio game

I haven't been able to get onto the forum for a while, so I have several things.Could you make it so you can only build on paths when there is meadows, so maybe when there is a meadow terrain? Or alternatively, maybe a no building parameter you can specify on a map that does not allow building anything on squares that it is true for. That might be more flexible. And would it be possible to allow a map to define its own editor_palette? I tried creating one within a ui folder for a map but it didn't seem to work. I like the editor, but it would be nice to have your own options particular to each map. Also with the editor, would it be possible to allow you to specify the number of meadows in a square? Maybe the number could be set in the console and space could be used to apply that number to each square it is used on, or something similar to how terrain is applied at the moment. One more editor thing, could you make it so that you can cycle through the available types of exits (like path and bridge), and pressing the keys to add exits to a square then uses that exit. There were other things that also came up while we were playing, but I can't think of them at the moment, I'll post them when they come up again.Just also wanted to say we really enjoy the latest changes, the water adds a whole new dimension to the game and it's fun to play on island maps where you need transports to get your units around.

Re: skype autoupdate

I agree that Skype 8 isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, and I've gotten used to it. However, we can't switch to other platforms as easily as sighted folks can. They have a lot more options than we do, since they don't have to worry about accessibility. Signal, Telegram, What'sApp for desktop, which is usable with a screen reader but just barely, Imo, and probably others I haven't heard of. All are better options, due to the fact that encryption is built in, but no one is making a stink about demanding accessibility in those apps, even though that's probably the best course of action. Even if they did, I remember hearing that Telegram specifically said they had zero fucks to give about incorporating accessibility, and as for the others, progress has been slower than a snail. So I do agree that turning up your noses is pretty counterproductive unless you're advocating for accessibility in any of these apps, because, let's face it, anyone who's serious about cybersecurity in the 21st century doesn't want to be tied to Skype anyway. Sadly, we kind of have to be as blind people, and yes, I know that Skype is sort of a household name, so many sighted people don't realize there are better alternatives, either, but at least they could easily switch if they wanted to.

Re: skype autoupdate

@21, have you ever considered that, you know, split screen view in electron might not be possible? Have you ever done research on Electrons capabilities and what it can and can't do? These "holier than thou" responses, as you put it, are our ways of telling you to grow up, un-stick yourselves from the passed, and adapt. It may not feel native because of the way NVDA renders it. But Microsoft is not going to attempt to please an incredibly small portion of the community and implement features that may increase the resource consumption tenfold, depending on the way they implement "split-screen windows". Considering that Electron is designed to render web apps and not native ones, and node.js does not have native GUI libraries, it would have to create an entirely new instance of itself. So, if that was indeed possible, you'd effectively have two Skype instances running at once. What a waste of resources, eh? The windows XP users are already being forced to upgrade because software is no longer being built to support windows XP. Now, Skype is suffering the same thing. There isn't much you can do other than the options I gave you -- either continue requesting features until they get popular enough, switch to another platform, create your own, or just suck it up and deal with it. That is quite literally all you can do. But sticking to the passed and clinging onto old programs "because they work" has come to an end. It came to an abrupt end as soon as programmers and organizations got it in their head to create apps that ran natively but that were web-based. It hit an abrupt end as soon as Node.JS came into the picture. The maxum of "don't fix it if its broken" hasn't applied in almost a decade now.

They forced us to use this thing and didn't implement what people are asking for. They did sort of give us split view, but that's only for the Windows 10 app. If they did it in the Windows 10 app, why can't they do so in Skype 8?As for Electron, I'm sorry but to me it doesn't feel native. Maybe that's due to the screen reader handling it as a browser window. Yes, turning the virtual cursor in JAWS or whatever it's called in NVDA off works, but it still feels like a half-assed solution. It just seems like Electron is limited in what it can do compared to something written exclusively for an operating system. I would still like to see an app that will prove me wrong.

Re: New Horizons, space combat and trading game

@kenshira, you don't really need to know what resource a planet is looking for, just buy/mine/find something and fly to pretty much anywhere to traide, since the trade prices are generated dynamically when you enter a system. Obviously on the rare occasions when it reports selling your cargo would be a loss you don't want to do that, but that happens surprisingly rarely. Cargo exsentions would be nice, though the worry is that they'd negate a lot of the point of slower ships with bigger holds, rather the way the ten fuel tank extension makes the fuel capacity a bit pointless (since even 12 jumps is quite a bit).

Re: A software in development to enable deeper communication

Hi, Thank you all for the comments questions and the interest in the research interviews so far. @Munawar, I will be sure to look it up. We are in the funding stage ourselves, and the link that I have posted in the first post to sign up should act as an interest gage. and I myself believe or at least from the people that I have interviewed so far, something like this app could prove useful to people that don't have many friends, or and if they do, don't know what to say or how to say it. Or people that are were friends, are doing different things so don't have much to say, but through letters like these they can still keep in touch without having to sit down and actually write. That's one angle and the other of course is the communicating with people from different countries, learning about their culture whilst sharing yours, and also help them improve their English at the same time.and like defender said, how deep you go and the other person does is entirely up to you and the person on the other end. turtlepower17, Thank you for your questions. I get the incription concern, and I will of course put it down in the suggestions at the developers for implementation if possible/ feezable. Its exactly to know what people'd want, what not, how they'd like it and if there's a need for such a thing or if it will help people that feel isolated alone etc, is the reason why I/ We are conducting interviews. So if anyone else here would be interested in giving me 15 20 minutes of their time for the research interview, I'd be greatful, however if you don't have the time, but are still interested or think something like this app would could help you or someone you know, sign up using the link in the first post.@defender, yeah the registration form is a bit wonkey / could be better phrased I agree, but There are quite a few people working on the English end of things (yours truely included) so understanding Questions and their replys shouldn't be a problem.@Guitarman. That's good on you, sir but there are people that can't do those things well, either due to time limitation, or simply not knowing what to say (not good at expressing themselves) and Or having a person that you can vent to, or share your experiences with who actually understands you, I.E emotional support. And to be honest with you, it doesn't have to be the next million billion $ app (although it would  be awesome if it were), as long as it helps even a 10th of that number of people. Thanks all.Grryf.

If your friend is sighted, you can put your character to follow them, so your player is automatically following the movement (in a range) of your friend to go to the diferent places, but you can fight, use skills and all of other stuf. Thanks for the info! So, a small sort option can be good, but well, isn't a grat problem really.

I seriously love how you guys are so resistant to change over this. WTF is your roblem? Electron is a framework to develop apps in Node.JS and make them run natively without any special programs. You can't use old technology for ever. You can't resist change for ever. Something will come along and force you to move along with technology, and by the time you advance, you won't know how to use it, and when you ask people for help, they'll say, "Well, that's why you should've upgraded when you were told to!" So, here's the final say -- get used to it! There is literally and absolutely nothing you can do. What if Microsoft rips out support for Skype seven, hmm? Will you somehow magically manage to acquire the Skype seven server source code and host it? I think not. Grow up, stop being so resistant to change, and advance when technology says you should. You have no other option. So far as I can tell on my machine, the performance between Skype 8 and 7 has such a small difference its inconsequential. It runs just as fast as Skype seven. It takes up more resources... Microsof can't exactly help that, now can they? They've already released two versions of the app -- an electron and UWP version. They're not going to do everything they can to please a group of small-and narrow-minded individuals who loathe change so much they're willing to completely ignore it because its something their used to and nothing new could possibly be better. The much larger audience says the exact opposite.

The wider audience says that its a good thing.

@smoothgunner where did you found a pokemon tcg accessible game?Youre crazy my friend jaja; crazy party is near pokemon but isn't pokemon. So, thanks for the link to the aprone's engine, I have to check it, sound interesting. database of MTG exists alot, so if you can compativilice the db with the game style of mtg using that engine, well. check that can you do with them, jaja.About the YGO game... is simply a dream. a @Origine outside the pc do you play MTG?You can play, marking your cards (or your cards sleeves, that you want) with braille, with the most important data.I do that for play yugi, mtg, and pokemon. I have decks of all of these games, and is fun. Isn't so dynamic to modify your deck like the non blind people do, but if you know what cards do you want in to your deck, you can build it, and mark, when you're OK with your experiment :3In my case, I preffer mark directly the cards, because I don't change cards. But, if you want build your deck, but have the possibility to change or cell it after use, mark the sleeves; only have the pcaution of don't put the wrong marked sleeve in other card jaja. So! that is all!Bye!

Re: skype autoupdate

@nidza07Every single Electron communication app I've seen or heard of thus far (Slack, WhatsApp, Discord) has behaved like a website in terms of navigation and usability. Electron is okay for some things. I'm not saying otherwise. What I'm saying is that is sucks for things like Skype which has been until now a proper native app for Windows. How Skype 8 can be considered an upgrade for people who use Windows I have no idea. Yes, I realize that this is a highly subjective statement. There are those who don't mind Electron apps for communication.Instead of going to a website with your browser, you basically download a special instance of Chrome and get the exact same interface you'd get on the website, and this is the problem I have. I am not fond of these apps that behave like websites. I am not fond of the fact that I have to interact with them like websites instead of proper Windows apps that were made for Windows. I don't care if Skype has an Electron app. I have a problem with the fact that everyone is being forced to use said Electron app no matter what sort of device they happen to be using with absolutely no alternatives whatsoever. It feels like pure exclusion due to laziness.@ironcross32I hear what you're saying, and if this was strictly a poor blind people issue I would tend to agree with you. However, this affects more than just us blind folk. There are many, many threads over on the Microsoft Community and Skype User Voice forums that are saying similar things. Some have indeed tried Skype 8 and gone back to Skype 7 immediately when they could, and are now not very happy to have been forced upgraded to the thing they didn't want. It doesn't help that the Skype team seems to be focusing primarily on adding new things instead of improving the UI and addressing issues people have reported before forcing everyone to use the thing. It's quite clear that Skype 8 was released in a very incomplete state. I can go find and link the threads if you wish, as I'm not sure how aware you are of the issue. This has absolutely nothing to do with entitlement on my part. See above. Indeed, I never said anything about entitlement. I simply said that I refuse to just lie down and take this. My focus is how utterly ridiculous this Electron Skype is and how unnecessarily difficult it is to use compared to Skype 7. Yes, because I use a keyboard, my focus is a bit subjective. I suppose this is a case in which we'll just have to agree to disagree, which is fine and probably for the best. I don't want to turn this into yet another entitled blind people debate. It serves no purpose.Anyhow, if someone can point me in the direction of a communication Electron app that isn't a pain in the ass to use with a screen reader compared to a good old native app, I'll check it out. Until then, I maintain that Electron is a big part of the problem no matter what keyboard shortcuts are put in. It's slow and bloated, and again where keyboard use is concerned it's clunky.

Hi! I got this game a few days ago and although I was confused at first, I'm really getting the hang of it! I like getting bounties, but there is the problem of getting swamped, as everyone has been saying. Nice to know why that is, although it makes me sad to lose all that cargo. I wanna upgrade my ship to something with more space in the hold, though. Wish I could pay a little extra to have the upgrades I'd already bought transferred to the next ship I buy, because I'll need to raise some more moneys for the tank extension and best laser, as well as the hull regen upgrade for the next ship—I won't waste it on my Cobra. All in all, I'm having loads of fun flying around space and trading.

Re: New Horizons, space combat and trading game

@ironcross32,,, yeah, having the fugitives on your side sounds nice. What may be good, is an additional respect stat, which could go either way depending on who you kill. For example, killing fugitives and avoiding trading illegal goods will earn you a higher respect with the police, which could decrease the chances of your sneaky, once in a while illegal cargo being beamed from your ship, where as shooting at police and trading more illegal goods will earn you more respect from fugitives, thus decreasing the chances of you being ganged up on when you have goods, as well as a fugitive ship assisting you every now and then in a battle. As a side note, I wouldn't mind in the next update if there was an option to keep your ship if wanted, because although it may sound tedious, I wouldn't like to pay for a decent ship that was not the best but otherwise expensive, pay the price of the ship for the hull regen upgrade, only to have to scrap it when buying a ship more appropriate to your needs and loose everything, only to buy the same upgrades you had on your previous ship but at a higher price.

The zoom scale when brushtone loads is automatically set to 32, so 1 pixel will appear as though its 32 by 32 pixels by default. You can zoom in by pressing the insert key, and zoom out by pressing the delete key. To scale it up and correct this, go under the edit menu and select the entire canvas, or select the area of your map, then go under the image menu and use the stretch function, be sure to stretch it evenly by a power of two or it may skew the results, so 64 by 64 would then be 128 by 128, etc.

Re: Making a Vintage Sounding TTS Voice

I would've liked to respond to this sooner, but was having issues logging into the site. Thankfully it's sorted out.Your research into this is really wild to me. I'm no expert in these things, but I am really interested in this stuff. I only wish I could code so that I could either try to build something on my own or contribute to yours .One thing I meant to say earlier is that, at least given the examples on your site, I think that some of the transitions as you said are a little messy. One thing that particularly stuck out to me was the transition from voiced to unvoiced. It sounded too long to me, as though the synth were drunk. Lol. Of course the lengths of these transitions could change with different speaking rates, but as a bass line value, it sounds too long in proportion to vowels to me. Not sure if your most recent question will tie into that, but thought I'd mention it anyway. As to the transition between phones, if I am understanding you correctly, you want to know if a static transition time between any two phones is most suitable? My layman understanding of synthesis tells me that it would be fine, at least as a starting point, to use the same transition time between consonants and vowels. With diphthongs, or two adjacent vowels, I'm not so sure but this would be a good opportunity for me to give it some thought.A long long time ago, when I was a young teenager with nothing better to do, I did play around with this stuff in Dectalk, and I also had an old program called Flex Voice (which btw if anyone has Flex Voice, please get in touch). I wish I'd kept my singing synth stuff around but sadly I either lost most of it or deleted it.In both synths, when singing or doing complex manual phoneme work, you specify phonemes and durations. The phonemes are exactly like those in the phone list in your post, though obviously the codes were not the same, but it's the same principal. You even specified duration in milliseconds, which is mainly why I never continued my singing efforts because syncing it with music would be difficult, not to mention there is at least one bug I know of in Dectalk that messes with the millisecond values of certain phonemes. Anyway, I found that setting consonants like b, d, f, g, h, k etc. to 60 milliseconds generally worked well if I remember right, and I don't remember having to change them. Now for words like grass, that have multiple consonants at the beginning, I can't remember what I did. I also don't remember, in a musical setting, whether I wanted to put the consonant on the beat, or the vowel on the beat. Something tells me the latter is more appropriate. For your speech synth efforts, that obviously doesn't matter since the transition will happen in either case, but it's an interesting question when you're trying to do singing. As for diphthong transitions, they were always controlled by the synthesizer, which for a geek like me does get a little annoying when it transitions in a way you don't particularly want in the context of what you're doing. For example, let's say I want to make the word ice, with a long duration. . Some synths will stretch the duration from ah to ih. The stretch will be proportional, meaning that if you make it 5 seconds long, you'll get a very slow transition. If I remember right, Dectalk has a maximum length for this transition and will just hang on the ih sound at the end for the rest of the phoneme. I suspect other synths will do the inverse, that is, prolong the ah and do the transition at the end, which sounds somewhat commical. As to which one is best, I can't really say, especially for normal speech. All of this reflection on speech synths reminds me of my own efforts to explore the concept, but being the techy/musical person I am, I like putting things in a musical context, as you can probably tell from this post.I don't know if you've ever heard of a machine called the Voder. The Voder is an old machine from the late 1930s iirc. It was never commercially used but was more an educational contraption built to show that with the cutting-edge technology of the time, it was possible to synthesize speech. I think the research that went into synthesizing speech with the Voder also helped in building the vocoder concept. Anyway the Voder supposedly had a complex control board to adjust analog circuitry (filters, oscillators etc) to make speech sounds. Of course it wasn't an automatic tts. To make any sort of speech you had to learn precisely how to move the controllers to produce different phonemes, and this required many months of training to master. One day I was exceptionally bored and started a script for a musical instrument player called Sforzando with the goal of making a singing synth, and its usage is, roughly, the same idea as the Voder. To make things complicated, each formant filter's frequency is assigned to a different control knob, mainly because in Sforzando there is almost no

generally on this forum, if a developer has 2 different games, they do two different threads for them. It also serves the developer well. Someone might think 6 thieves is cool while they think 6 swords is not for them and vice versa, so you'd attract more people if you split your efforts and had a thread for each.

Re: Does Anyone have Trouble Saying Certain Words

Dan_Gero wrote:For some reason that I can’t understand, I feel uncomfortable reading certain words out loud, which I won’t tell anyone for feer of embarrassment. Yes, these are regular every day words, and they aren’t offensive in any way. It also bothers me to hear people say those words, but not nearly as much as it does for me to say them.Without knowing exactly what triggers this reaction in you, I can't say for sure whether I can relate to your situation, but what you're saying does sound an awful lot like something I dealt with especially when I was a kid.I'll give a few examples of how it applies to me. But of course I can't promise that it'll help you in any way.One word that I struggled to say was reach. I'm okay with it now, but when I was a kid I had a hard time saying it because it was just an uncomfortable word for me to have to say, and now I partially know why.One of the things that fascinated me as a kid was different aspects of piano playing, since I played piano myself. For some reason, I was always interested in the physical technique. Probably because I was super self-conscious about mine, and at one stage I switched teachers and ended up with a good but somewhat intimidating teacher who seemed to have a third eye for spotting uncurved fingers, badly placed hand movements and the like. The whole thing actually led to a fascination with hand dexterity which is too embarrassing for me to talk about on a public thread that has nothing to do with it, but suffice it to say that one thing I often thought about was the fact that I couldn't play a lot of the ideas in my mind. I always loved big chords, even though my hands weren't big enough to play many of the ones I thought of, and I wasn't good enough to give a clever illusion of playing them. Thus I had to take compromises which I knew other pianists who were better than me had either overcome, or didn't have to consider in the first place. My consciousness about it got so bad that, even when I was reading a story where for example someone was reaching up to a shelf to grab an item, I got this picture in my mind of them reaching for something they couldn't physically grasp, but they kept trying anyway, with the same frustration I had when I realized I can't play this epic thing in my head. It was, to be honest, very distressing for me, and the word reach just became this loaded word that made me uncomfortable. I also was conscious of how stupid it was that I couldn't say this simple sentence that has nothing to do with me personally, and on that vane, I just gritted my teeth, at least figuratively, and got through it, and hoped nobody noticed that I was being odd about it. I suspect they did notice, because I'm not good at hiding things. LolThere are other words that I had similar feelings about too. Some were negative like the one I described, and others were actually positive. I overcame most of them now as I got older, but then again a lot in my life has changed, and I have friends now who I can talk to about odd things like that and we can have interesting conversation about topics that we don't talk about every day. So that helps me just unload my odd thoughts. And the simple act of articulating these thoughts is all my brain needs to disconnect from these connotations of benign words.I'll give another example of a funny word association but this time it's a positive one. When I was really little, I believed I could tell the difference between colors by texture. I was never able to experience color, but as a little kid I of course believed I could experience it. If I couldn't see it, I could feel it. So when people would pass me something and call it purple for example, I tried to catalog that texture as purple.Well one time we were reviewing shapes in a class. The teacher passed me a smooth circle piece, and asked me what it was. I said circle, then asked what color it was. She told me yellow, and the circle felt so smooth and shiny and pleasant that the word yellow just seemed to be a perfect explanation. Yellow is smooth. Yellow is shiny and sparkly, it's glassy and light. It's round, clean, finished to perfection without a single impurity. It was something completely unreal for my 6-year-old mind. I even liked the word, it was sunny and bright. But I always had an odd word-to-texture association game in my head, especially when I was a kid. Everyone thought I liked yellow because of the double l, but a double l wasn't important to me, and in fact the mention of l ruined it because l just sounds rough and jagged to me. Anyway, everyone kept buying me yellow things and I very quickly learned that color and texture have about as much to do with each other as rocks and the letter z. In other words, there's no link at all.I guess in conclusion to all this, words and associations are very mysterious things that you probably aren't meant to understand fully, but knowing at least

Hey Folks! I've done some work on a parallel game call "6 Thieves", where you play thieves in a big medieval city instead of fighters roaming the country side. I'm at the point where I'm going to open it for Alpha use. There isn't much gameplay yet, but there is a massive city to explore. A quick question first: would people prefer I started a new thread for that and kept this one exclusively about 6 Swords, or should I use this thread for both?

Re: Unity accessibility for the blind and visually impaired

The main reason for my interest in mainstream engines is the ease with which some allow for prototyping. With Godot, for instance, you can easily combine a 2-D tilemap, 8-way controller, audio listener, sound nodes, and assemble an audio scene in a matter of minutes. Sure, you can eventually code all of these things, but often the best code is the code you don't have to write, and it's nice to build with higher-level primitives like these and focus on the game itself, not on picking the best data structure to represent large tilemaps, integrating physics for collision detection, mapping sounds to higher-level game objects, etc. And I'm a software developer by profession, so the thought of building audio game support into a project that will continue to exist even if the audio game developers lose interest is a nice one for me.

I think fugitives should be less likely to attack you if your record leans closer to, or encroaches over the border into fugitivehood. Then you got fugitives and bounty hunters on your 6. I wouldn't expect every fugitive to not fire on you, because it would be simulating that 'every man for himself' type thing, but I think it should cut it down some.

Re: skype autoupdate

@12 , aren't we entitled. That reveals the crux of the issue right there. It is not just the blind who are forced to use it, it is literally everyone. The fact that your view is so narrow as to include you and your select group of people is sad. You seriously haven't taken the 5 seconds to think about others, fully able-bodied who might not like the electron version? Just saying blind and everyone else doesn't really cut it in my book.Acting like sheep, as you call it, is not what I'm about. But nothing you can do is going to change the outcome of this. You have what you have, now, if you want to write feedback to make it a little more accessible, to alleviate some of the annoyances that come with screen reader interaction, then go for it. If you want to sit around and be so furious, then go for it, see how far that gets you.Keep in mind that in all this time that Microsoft threatened to kill Skype 7, people could have migrated over, and written feedback, and maybe the experience would be a bit better by the time they finally killed it, or forcefully started upgrading people. They could even have went back to 7 after experiencing 8.Web apps are the future, deal with it or get a tablet or something. That's how it is. DO you really, honestly, truly think that they'd put all the resources into developing the electron version just to backtrack and get rid of it because all the little blindies in Blindville are crying over it? Like it or not, but you, me, and most of the other people on this forum are a spec of dust, the needle in the haystack, one drop of water in the ocean compared to the rest of the people. Not because of our merit, but because of our low number. So making demands accomplishes nothing, working within the confines of what's realistically probable and possible though, now that can accomplish something.

@Dark the pictorial questions don't really matter because they relie on your knowledge anyway. Yes it says use the Alexa app for clues but they honestly do not take away from the experience. It's nothing like "what's in this picture", it's just asking who's directing or starring in what film, and if you get an answer wrong, it still tells you the actual result, so I'd say this one's pretty playable.

If we just lie down and take what we're given, then companies will never know what they did wrong. I'm not going to just say "Well okay that's what it is." and hope they'll eventually make Electron apps that aren't massive piles of sluggish bloatware in a few years. The key though is to not be hostile about it when giving feedback.A lot of the accessibility problems with Skype 8 are due to the platform they chose, which is Electron. No matter what the screen reader does or what keyboard shortcuts people add, Skype is now a glorified website that runs in a massive Chrome process, which to me is a pretty significant downgrade on something like a Windows desktop. Most of us whether we're blind or not are furious, not because there is an Electron app, but because we don't have a choice. We either use the bloated monster or we don't use Skype at all. To me, this is unacceptable and I will not be told to just deal with it. As long as there are ways to submit feedback, I will respectfully tell them that there are those of us who prefer a clean, normal desktop UI. I'll adapt to the new Skype because I have no choice as everything else is going Electron, but I sure as hell am not just going to lie down like a defeated dog. I use Windows, and I prefer things like Skype to be Windos applications, not websites. If I wanted a website, I would use a web browser to go to web.skype.com.To each his or her own though. If you're okay with just taking what you're forced to use, awesome. Not all of us are sheep though. There's just a proper way to tell companies what is and isn't acceptable.

Hello! So I'm trying to use this to make maps for my sighted D players, but I'm having issues making it big enough for them to print off with any kind of clarity. They're saying it's just a little square.

Re: a good menu for bgt?

cant really help here. you can change the music every time the menu opens, but you can get an example of thaat in the cm source. but since no one really uses cm source for anything, which would make it a clone! lets copy some wild blind tech code hereyou need to put an int musictracks number which is the number of music tracks. you'll notice in your average menu.bgt, you'll have a void called setupmenu, in which there is a line, m.add_music("menumus.ogg");we want to change this to:m.add_music("menumus"+random(1,musictracks)+".ogg");that's the basic ideahope this helps!

Re: New Horizons, space combat and trading game

@EagleEarEntertainment, you have to be lucky with nebulae, as I said in the guide gas harvesting is a bit hit and miss, your best option to make money is trading, especially illegal trading if you can run away from the vipers before they take your goods.Once you get a ship with a mining laser, you can start asteroid mining which is more lucrative. As to being attacked, remember to always check the danger rating of the system, the higher the danger rating, the more likely you are to be attacked. You can go through high danger systems using hyperspace jumps, and if your good with navigation and a bit lucky you   can visit a freeport or Zocalo to trade, but spending a long time inside a location you can quickly warp out of such as a nebula, asteroid field or  star is asking for trouble, same goes for flying straight across planets. Also, listen out for the warning that fugetives are incoming, since its generally fugetives who will be quickest to attack you.@Kenshira, I didn't think what you were carrying affected enemy aggression, I thought it depended upon the system's danger rating, whether there was floating cargo in the area, and  you have a clean police record, but I could be wrong.

Re: skype autoupdate

Huge thumbs up to ironcross, was wondering if I was the only one thinking this way. By the way, the if it isn't broken don't fix it line is so old and for me personally irrelevant. The technology no longer works like that. By this logic, Windows would not get any updates because well, it's not broken. However, I personally think all this will go away and everybody will get used to this app at some point, it just takes time. The more you keep forcing Skype 7, the more Skype 8 will be updated, new things added and when you are forced to switch to it, you might want to have an important chat or a call but will find out that you have to get used to the app, and it will slow you down. Instead, I recommend asking for what you don't like about new skype so somebody can help. Web apps will remain bloated to you until you learn to use all the powers of your screen reader. There are people who say it's easier to use the app when you turn the virtual cursor/browse mode/whatever off, however that's far from true. In reality, you should combine both, and once you get used to the app you will know that works the best in which situation. For example, when reading or writing chats, the best is indeed to have your screen reader cursor off. However, if you want to turn off notifications for a group, instead of opening group settings and tabbing 10 times, what you do is open group settings, turn on your browse mode, press ctrl end to go to the end of the page and press b a couple times to land on buttons for toggling notifications. Situations like this make the app less bloated and slow, and I don't mind if we had more questions on general skype usage to address instead of how to disable updates for a program. Disabling updates in most cases only does you harm and nothing good.

Re: What's wrong with this code? - C#

You don't, thats the actual point in event-driven programming. You are using a full-fetched gui framework here which doesn't work the bgt way, means the I/O blocking way, but event-driven. That means that the KeyPress event is called whenever an actual key press occurs and it expects you to do your thing and exit as soon as possible without blocking the whole thread as you're doing it right now.See e.g. https://medium.com/@vsvaibhav2016/intro … 161b79c223 for more information about event-driven programming.See links like this one https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet … form-level for in-deptch examples how to do such stuff in C#.Best Regards.Hijacker

Re: skype autoupdate

Hello,The reason I personally resisted until I was forced to upgrade is, skype 7 had nothing that skype 8 could not do. Recording of calls can be done via an external program, even via loopback. So my thought for the consumer side is, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. The developer side is of course different, they want to develop this app in a way so that it can be updated all at once for all platforms.

Re: skype autoupdate

Skype 8 is technically usable, although it does take some effort to do certain things. More effort than should be necessary, in my opinion. Adding shortcuts for accessibility is good, but it doesn't change that Skype 8 is just a bloated Electron app that can't hold a candle to a good old native app like Skype 7 in terms of accessibility, at least not yet. I'm adapting, but I'm still pretty pissed that I basically got downgraded to an inferior app.As for modified versions of Skype, I don't trust them. Who knows what else they did to the program. I'd rather have instructions for modifying things myself.

2019-01-20 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : ironcross32 via Audiogames-reflector

Re: What is a Man?

with the absence of gender roles, there are no defining characteristics of man. Male, yes, as it's a biological term, man, no.I don't see gender roles as problematic at all. As long as we don't try to force the people around us into said roles and we realize that we have the power to branch out from those roles if we wish to, I see no problem. It's like a blueprint for a prototype, a design, maybe even a mold or a casting, but we can change that casting to suit our personality, it doesn't bind us. I submit then, if we removed all defining characteristics that compose a gender role, where are those baseline values. It would seem to me that people would then fall into the category of neuter, which is fine if that's how they truly feel, but they should know what options they have.Have gender roles been abused, yes, but what has been placed in humanity's path that has not been. We're an intrinsically flawed species. So I think it is wrong to judge someone for how they are. Things like, "You're not man enough", or, "what kind of woman does X" where x is some activity a woman should not do according to gender roles. As long as we realize it's able to be changed, an outline that's still being prepared, a form with details yet to be filled in, etc. I don't see the problem.
