Btw, just as a helpful warning, be careful to make sure your distribution that you choose supports secure boot if you have a newer computer that uses that, otherwise, it will be a no go for you. Antergos was another good , customizable one, however, it is Arch-based and again, does not support secure boot.

2019-02-02 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : devinprater via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Thoughts On Accessible Gaming, Via Chrome OS And GNU/Linux

My problem with Linux is this. Linux is free, as in free speech. As in free speech, there is free speech that is good, bad, and speech that directly goes against the blind, like "we want this app to be as pretty as possible, and don't have time to add accessibility support." Linux, fundamentally, can never be completely accessible unless all developers agree on it, and they *never* will, not all of them.I tried Linux again a few weeks ago, on Fedora 29. I got everything working fine, even PPSSPP works okay, except that the L and R buttons don't work on my Xbox controller...I got accessibility set up fine, except OcrDesktop relies on X11, and Fedora comes with Wayland by default and I didn't want to mess with another config file...I got Wi-fi and sound set up the way I want, except the Gnome setting center is pretty inaccessible...I got RH-voice installed, but Orca wouldn't use it...I got Emacspeak installed, but Voxin wasn't available for Fedora 29, 28, 27, 26...All these problems lead to a simple answer, Linux just isn't good enough for me. Before Fedora, I also tried Slint, which uses older packages for just about everything, and is not friendly for a beginner.To put this on games topic, there are very few games for Linux because few blind people use Linux, for good reason really, unless they really hate Windows that badly and believe Apple to be spying on its users.One last thing: I remember reading on an email list that blind computer users shouldn't use a operating system chiefly because of ideals. I second that, as Linux is always going to be behind in accessibility unless more thought is given to it by developers of desktops, applications, and window managers, and this inaccessibility is why people don't use, or develop, for Linux.

If you don’t want to do that, you can type a number of goods, and then press right arrow to get that number. Either way, press enter afterwards to buy the good. Yeah, @ironcross32 seems like you didn't read the entire thread, that's on you.@alexwallis: I quite like that idea from a practicality standpoint, but technically speaking that would be a hell of a lot more lines, and episode 0 (supposedly a prologue if it's anything like what Cygnus's episode 0 was) would probably be way too long to be called episode 0. Lol!Slightly unrelated note, I actually think Growing up Fisher's cancellation didn't have much to do with the NFB (well it could've) but I think the timing of that show was just asking for less ratings. That show aired right when The Voice was on, and you can guess which show the majority quite obviously were going to follow more. And so the ratings probably were not what they had hoped and it wouldn't make financial sense to keep the show going. Who can say what would've happened if that show was timed a bit better, hey maybe maybe it could've been October to distract from meet the blind month. Lol! That was actually a good show though I will say that.

Inno setup has a gui frontend that significantly simplifies things. Sure, the scripting language is simple enough, but when you've spent all that time programming your application, you kind of don't want to spend even more time on the script. Plus, unlike programs like Create Install or Install Creator, this is just a gui frontend, no overlays, no blaring advertisements of overt laziness *sarcasm* or rather, no advertisements before or after install that this install was created by so and so. This is the real deal.

Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac

Something that quite frankly won't be a huge issue when Aira, and Aira Access, is able to go more international. Can't predict anything on that, obvious networking restrictions and all that to be concerned about. But perhaps make it a priority when you buy your machine - the first thing you do is either enable cd/usb boot from bios, or memorize that menu, so you don't have to worry about it again. Unless you're ordering online, you could always have someone do it for you. And because of the custom firmware of the mac Ethin mentioned, Bootcamp is artificially banned from booting anything other than signed windows images. Although you *should* be able to boot Linux still, at least on an mbp2015, but last i booted Jenux it gave me the dreaded variable prefix not set error and never got past that, so there ya go.

The code is public domain and is distributed as a header only library.The repository can be found at:https://github.com/blastbay/blastlibs/Enjoy!Kind regards,Philip Bennefall

The only reason you can select your startup disk in Mac is because they use a custom firmware that nicely integrates with Mac OS. Windows does not require such a custom firmware. That is literally the only advantage I can see in Mac -- you can select your startup disk. Sorry, no big advantage, my computer firmware has that in its boot manager already, and I've figured out the layout already. And I can do that in Linux with grub-reboot (or efibootmgr). Re: A Black Ops 4 Zombies guide has been created

2019-02-02 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : BlindNinja via Audiogames-reflector

Re: A Black Ops 4 Zombies guide has been created

Alright, so. I figured out my issue... nowhere was it mentioned that to actually start a match you had to hold X/A on the ready button. But apparently you do.For anyone else who might be thinking of picking this up, here's some stuff the in game tutorial walks you through, but doesn't actually tell you directly. I've only done the basic tutorial so far, advanced will come later.Default controls are as follows:Left stick: move character, left/right sidesteps but doesn't turnRight stick: Turn your character, unfortunately no way to reset the camera direction that I know ofSquare/X: Reload, general action button if heldGeneral actions includes buying weapons/perks, opening doors, repairing defenses, etc.Triangle/Y: Switch weapons, unsure how it works with more than 2 at a time, but with 2 will just cycle between them. Presumably, with 3 or more it still does, but there may or may not be a way to directly select one.X/A: Jump? That's what it sounds like, anyway.Circle/B: CrouchR2/RT: Fire weaponL1/LB: use gun sitesL3: Click to sprintR3: Melee attackHaven't messed with L2, R1 or the Dpad yet, but the guide says the Dpad is used for elixirsWeapons don't actually sound like you might think, at least on the tutorial map which I believe is Voyage. I'm not sure quite how to describe it, but it sounds almost like a kind of blowing wind with a horror type twist. Unless I got that wrong and it's the loud humm/creepy whispering type thing, but that was way off to my right when I managed to get the weapon off the wall during the tutorial.Doors also do not seem to sound like what you'd think, I spent a number of minutes following the sound of creaking wood, but I believe those are just ambience. The actual sound if I'm not mistaken is similar, but different to the sound of a weapon. The perk alter apparently sounds like a bird, not quite sure yet what the logic behind that is.But that's all I found for now, hopefully a bit more fumbling around will yield more info. Someone please correct me if any of the stuff in this post is wrong or could be clarified.

Re: Interest in an open source vocoder library?

You're absolutely right that we do need a VST, but I'm not sure I'll be the one doing it. If I'm lucky, someone else will pick it up and do a nice VST wrapper. If no one does, I'll do it. And no worries - I was not thinking of using SynthEdit.The vocoder does not split voiced and unvoiced sounds at the moment. Personally, I hate the kinds of errors that are often introduced when plugins try to do that. To my ears, those errors are far worse than the slight buzzing that is introduced by not attempting to filter them. Then again, I'm sure that's a matter of taste.I will update the Dropbox link in the first post; not sure why it is broken as the file is still there. Thanks for alerting me to that!Kind regards,Philip Bennefall

Changes to YouTube mobile site?

While using YouTube on the iPhone, I’ve noticed a few changes in regards to how the site works with voiceover. The biggest change seems to be that most of the headings have disappeared from the page. Before, the title of each video on the page would show up as its own heading,  and other information about the video, like time, date added, channel, etc.each  showed up as separate links.    This made the site very easy to navigate and read. Now, it seems like nearly all these headings,  along with the separate links for other info,   have disappeared, and the seperate pieces of information for  each video are  read as one large link  by voiceover.Has anybody else noticed this, and if so, is it giving them trouble?

Re: Making a Vintage Sounding TTS Voice

How's progress going on the tts? And is flight capable of generating prosody information? I know eSpeak is, which means you don't have to do all the hard work for calculating pitch contours for phrases. I'd imagine flight does but I don't really know much about it. I could get why you might have a problem with using eSpeak though because it generates IPA, not whatever phoneset you're used to, and IPA is very nasty. But that would be one step closer to bringing it to the speech synthesis market as an engine for something, whether it be an NVDA add-on, a standalone program or an implementation for a game. The goal at the end would probably be to compile it as a dll so it can be used outside of c++, since I don't think that many people around here use c++. We really need a new Klatt synth to replace Eloquence, almost nothing else sounds as pleassant to the ears but Eloquence is full of problems and really deserves to be replaced. Licensing, crash words and if you put it at higher speech rates consonants start blurring.

Re: Interest in an open source vocoder library?

the Dropbox link gives a 404. Can't you use github's release system to ship the binaries? I don' have a c compiler installed. And re talk box, I do love it, especially for making synths sing, but it doesn't do splitting of consonants so the s buzzes and stuff, I had a hardware vocoder before the flood that would split consonants. I use them to make speech synths sing. But MDA talk box seems to have very low output levels and I don't want to clip it. Maybe this could be better for me. VST version definitely appreciated, it doesn't even have to have a UI, just expose everything via automation so we can envelope it and just change it. There's a certain implementation some vst plugins use to make it so that the sliders are labeled such that if something has modes, for example, a waveform selector will say sine for a while, then you hit page up a few times and it'll say sawtooth, then pulse, etc, instead of just printing a number. Please for the love of god don't use synth edit unless you can make it expose the names nicely, synth edit is notorious for bad automation exposure.

Re: I need help, again!

I do. I have the Tolk files in there. Thing is, the Tolk works in the main file, and in the menu file if I add it to any other function but run. When I add it to run function, the program crashes, though it does the same without it, as well. My code is short, and I really think that something's is wrong with my run function. It's in the link in my last post of the thread, but I'll post the code in here, as well. def run(self, Tolk):
  choice = 0
  if len(self.menu_choices)==0:
   return -2
  Tolk.output(str(self.menu_choices.get(choice)), True)
  for event in pygame.event.get():
   if event.type == KEYDOWN:
if event.key == K_UP and choice>0:
 choice-=1
 Tolk.output(str(self.menu_choices.get(choice)), True)
elif event.key == K_DOWN and choice  If anybody could shed some light on here I'd be extremely grateful. I'd also like to see this done as a while loop, just because I have a strong dislike and I force myself to overcome those. But again, right now I'm just trying to get this to work, I can figure out while loops later. Also, you may ask me how am I sure that the bug is in the run function? It's simple. I tested out every other function, passing Tolk as it's params, and it worked like a charm. I think my issue is not with Tolk, but with pygame itself. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a simple matter of capitalization.

The game is free, with additional premium features which can be purchased in something called supported packages. However, they wont really offer you an advantage against your opponent or something like that. Regarding the layout, the game is still fully accessible as long as you enable an accessible interface for sending match orders in your settings. Also, they have an accessibility specific forum where you can submit feedback and test the accessibility of new additions.

Right, that kind of makes my point for me, you chose to stay when things calmed down, and if they were to become uncalm? I guess the thing that matters is how committed is everyone currently on the team. I don't question Jayde, but I do question the rest.Didn't people say they'd chill out and let things happen in their own time? Well even that's seemingly out the window. December scratch that entirely, as it was too soon after, and holiday season, so people were busy, but then all of January to sort of get back in the game, but things really didn't happen did they?So I just am left wondering.

Did Facebook break their regular website accessibility?

Hi all,I don't know if this is just me, but I'm using NVDA and firefox, and whenever I go to Facebooks regular website, I've noticed some issues lately. Sometimes the website stops responding, like the other day for instance, ended up having to close the whole of firefox down. However, today, I've noticed another issue. When I enter focus mode, and press p for post, the dialogue pops up, NVDA can read the buttons, such as insert emoji, just fine, however, I can't for the life of me, seem to be able to find the actual edit box where I can enter my post. I haven't seen things get this bad on Facebook for a long time, so I'm wondering what's going on, or if it is indeed, hopefully just me and a temporary glitch.

Re: Numbers Stations, Phreaking and other oddities?

Hi.Also a quite creapy recording is if you hear Hitler talking normally. Normally, when you would hear exerpts of his speaches he would shout a lot, but there is a single recording where you can hear him talk normally. Not really creapy if you think about it, but it has this certain thing that gives it a strange vibe which i can't really explain, here is a link to that.Putting it shortly, he talks to someone about the recent conquers by the German army, about a tank factory they had eventually captured.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClR9tcpKZecRegarding the station, I got into into it some months ago, my first was a station called UVB76, apparently a russian radio station.There were a few German ones, a friend of mine has quite a collection of these things.Greetings Moritz.number

Apparently, you can use Speak On Media Suite to listen to stations via TuneIn. This is actually pretty cool. Unfortunately, I think you have to have a premium account with TuneIn to do even basic things, like add stations you want to listen to into your favorites, but you can browse through the directory and stream the stations, and it works well.

Re: I need help, again!

So @Ethin, I think I figured out what you meant by dlls not working. I currently have an issue with creating a menu class and using Tolk to speak it. The tolk works great in the main file, but as soon as I try and pass it to my loop for the menu things break, badly. See what I mean by going Here I admit, even that bit of code took me a bit to test and debug, but now the program simply closes without anything. No good bye, no errors to help me, nothing as far as I can see, until I run the damn thing through the command line prompt.To hopefully get the same error as me, open cmd, do cd and then the path to the folder where your copy of python3.exe is located at, then do py -3 path to myscript.py. If you're getting the OS 126: Can't find the module, error, good. We're on the same page. Thing is, Tolk works just fine in the normal file. I checked my pygame functions, and they were all the same as the documentation found right here, as far as I know. The problem is that this is something I can't debug do to the lack of knowledge. I was gonna use a menu to create guess the number and higher or lower, just to see how my skills fair up against multiple files. So tips? Suggestions? Anything? I'm truly stumped. I checked all I knew to check. Indentation seems to be fine, I didn't forget any colons as far as I know, but the run function in the menu class seems to disagree. I've spent 2 hours on it with no headway, so I'd appreciate any help.

Re: suggestions needed for good quality laptop

Ooh the XPS13, yup, had 1 of them myself, and for thoughs who don't know, the fan and overheating is a general downside to what is actually the best laptop providing you can dismiss the heat problems.As for lenovo, n keep back from them!I've tried out 2 lenovo's, 1 being significantly newer than the other, and in both cases I couldn't use alt F4, because of Lenovo's stupid way of switching your function keys to something they think is more beneficial to the user, but is actually a hindrance because by doing that, limits basic functionality.The HP envy may be worth having a look at, with the best configuration being an 8th gen I7, 16GB ram and a 512GB SSD, top with a Nvidia MX150, which should run all your games at low settings fluently with no trouble Plus, you could get a 13 inch version.Otherwise, look at the Surface book 2, 13 inches with an i5 or i7 and a gtx 1050, but it's way way pricier though so up to you Hope I helped
