What kinds of delay are people getting? Any connection issues? North America doesn't like the game, at least for two Canadian players. Developers are looking into it, but there are insistences that it's just my internet... so I need some other examples of delay time so I can tell the developers.

Re: warning to NVDA users!

@17 The problem with this approach is that you're seeing things through the wrong end of the binoculars, i.e. a very narrow view. You're not seeing, or don't wish to see the big picture, which happens to include working towards a corporate or enterprise edition. That's your prerogative, of course, but don't be too surprised if you don't get a lot of agreement with that view.

Re: The beginning of the end for jaws?

Microsoft needs a good, fast, responsive voice or two to put in OneCore. Nobody cares about these half way fancy sounding voices, we want raw speed. Fancy is OK for reading articles, but all the MS voices suck anyway, so there's that. If they came out with one or two voices like Fred on the mac, or came out with better speech technology that could keep up, I'd consider using narrator a lot more.

Re: shadow rine full voice version released

I've been playing Shadow Rine for a little while now and here are my findings. That caron/heart is in the lake or off to the edge of the field, you can't get it, so just keep it moving. That treasure box is surrounded on all four sides by lava/lake/walls, ignore it. If you need to go west, you're just as well to go east instead since the way west is most likely blocked by something forcing you to take the longest possible way around anyhow, so just go the opposite way right off the rip. Going around in circles is likely to yield results eventually, because even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. I'm hoping this gets better. So far I've logged 12 hours of tracing and retracing steps and backtracking. Yup, already talk to that guy. Yup, already visited with that girl. Yup, already read that sign. I'm not even sure what I'm meant to be doing. Going to find someone by a cave I guess? But I'm told to go around the lake. Like, all the way around? Like, as far out of the way as possible? by the guy who says there's nothing here anymore? I'm essentially grinding with ren or len or whatever in tow. Maybe that's not a bad thing. Do I get any new attacks or spells or skills or anything by continuing to walk around in circles and kill stuff?

Re: The beginning of the end for jaws?

NVDA is actually fast approaching its python 3 move, something we have been waiting for for a long time. I say that as an xp user myself, ironically, but knowing that xp is my energy-efficient operating system since the mac's battery management is pure shit because of how the battery ages. That being said, once this Pixelbook starts running windows 10, NVDA 2019.1 and beyond is going on it. It's about time we adopt python 3 completely. So, yes, bare in mind that NVDA is actively trying to fix bugs - go on the beta channel if you want to see it all in action.As for Windows becoming the mac? Figurative I know, but that can never happen. Thing is, the way windows accessibility works is that the screen reader communicates with existing api's, and in some cases has their own custom fallback, but usually can get the work done with existing api's ui automation, aria, and msaa offer. Those are universal standards. Apple Voiceover, on the other hand, is hooked into strict methodologies and baked so completely into the operating system to the point where no one would want! to make a third party screen reader for it because the api's are stupidly complicated. Those windows frameworks aren't going anywhere, because stuff is a lot less proprietary, so there's no possibility of a screen reader purge. Especially given the MS is still working with all these screen reader companies anyway.

Re: The beginning of the end for jaws?

I generally agree that scripting is a temporary solution; however, I find it difficult to imagine that many app developers will suddenly make all of their apps accessible. Although this has drastically improved, there are still many apps that are either partially accessible, or totally inaccessible. Most EBook readers for example, are still not accessible; the ones that are still need work, most notably Adobe Digital Editions, especially when it comes to braille support. I am glad that there are a few options available to us. Narrator is getting better indeed and the possibility of Jaws being replaced looks quite likely.

Re: adding sounds to a python script.

Yes, you can use pygame, although it only has basic audio capabilities, no 3D positional audio or reverb effects. Alternatively you can also use my OpenAL Examples which you can find [here] which come with a few examples on more advanced audio. To help get you started, here's a few pygame examples using both pygames built in audio, and the OpenAL script:import pygame
from pygame import mixer
import sys

def Example():
#initialize pygame
pygame.init()
#initialize sound mixer
mixer.init()
#create display
window = pygame.display.set_mode([640,480])
#load sound
sound = mixer.Sound('tone5.wav')

#main update loop
while True:
for event in pygame.event.get():
if event.type == pygame.KEYDOWN:
#if space is pressed, play sound
if event.key == pygame.K_SPACE:
sound.play()
#if escape is pressed, quit
if event.key == pygame.K_ESCAPE:
pygame.quit()
sys.exit(0)

#update window
pygame.display.update()

Example()And with OpenAL:import pygame
from openal import *
import sys

def Example():
#initialize pygame
pygame.init()
#load listener for hearing sound
listener = Listener()
#load sound object
sound = LoadSound('tone5.wav')
#load player for playing sound
player = Player()
#load sound object into player
player.add(sound)
#create display
window = pygame.display.set_mode([640,480])

#main update loop
while True:
for event in pygame.event.get():
if event.type == pygame.KEYDOWN:
#if space is pressed, play sound
if event.key == pygame.K_SPACE:
player.play()
#if escape is pressed, clean up and quit
if event.key == pygame.K_ESCAPE:
player.delete()
sound.delete()
listener.delete()
pygame.quit()
sys.exit(0)

#update window
pygame.display.update()

Re: The beginning of the end for jaws?

So I used to hate Jaws with a passion.  I only ever used NVDA because it was great and I never had any issues.  Every year, we'd have a new version of Jaws with 10 new features nobody would ever use and seemingly more bugs.Last year though, I noticed they started releasing updates with tons of bug fixes, and last week, I went ahead and shelled the $90 for the home license and I'm actualy finding the experience really pleasant.  I feel like in a lot of ways, NVDA is becoming what jaws used to be.Just earlier this morning, I opened NVDA to test something with Chrome and it did this thing where it loses focus and restarting it is the only way to fix it.  I used to constantly have issues like that with Jaws like 5 years ago.If you're in the US, you don't have to pay $1500 anymore.  You only have to pay $90/year and you'll receive updates and the ability to install Jaws on 3 computers, which seems perfectly reasonable to me.  I'm disappointed that they haven't rolled that out to other countries yet though.Anyway, I don't think Jaws or NVDA are going anywhere any time soon.  Narrator is pretty cool, and I love what Microsoft is doing with it, but I still feel it's got a ways to go.

Re: The beginning of the end for jaws?

I use JAWS at work, and I have had performance issues, but I don't think JAWS will be going away any time soon. For one thing, JAWS has contracts with many local and federal governments. I would bet you those entities will drop JAWS right before the world ends. To post 11: I agree scripts aren't the solution, the fact of the matter is, scripts are necessary for programs like Quickbooks to function correctly. NVDA just doesn't work with some specialized applications yet.Saying all that, I am not a huge JAWS fan, but I hope that we always have a few screen readers for Windows. We don't want Windows 10 to turn in to the Mac. The mac has one screen reader with no scripting capability, and if the program you are using doesn't work with the screen reader you are stuck. To end this long-winded post, I think having something like JAWS and NVDA around is a good thing. I do agree that Freedom Scientific needs to adjust there pricing model, and maybe they could add a few new features along the way.

Getting user typed input in pygame

So I need a way to get a message somebody types on the keyboard. The problem, I do not want to use the standard input function because it creates a separate window and it’s not very obvious to figure out.  So, any tips? People kept suggesting using something called tkinter on Google, but I couldn’t find a comprehensive installation guide for it.  Looking at the pygame documentation, it specifically warns against creating a function that checks for every single key on the keyboard. Besides,  that will be super annoying to create.  Oh, and before I forget, tkinter is not already installed on my machine, I tried importing it and got  module not found error.

Re: Creating an audio game using Sable (video 8), by Ebon Sky Studios

It doesn't use one, as Sable is designed to allow a person; with no programming knowledge; to be able to create a fully playable RPG game.I must stress, this means what the main-stream gaming world calls a console RPG, or a Japanese RPG.These games include, in no particular order;Environments where characters move about in no less than 4 directions and no more than 8, from an overhead view.Airships; or other methods of flight are present, but this only allows the same movement options, just at a different height.Battles are turn-based, and randomly triggered, unless you're flying.The character can interact with objects in the game fields; weather they be items, chests NPCs (non-player characters), etcetera.These games usually consist of one or more overworld maps that can also contain submaps to explore, such as towns, castles, dungeons, etcetera.The main character can usually form a party of other characters to explore with; though you can still just have a party of one.A 'story to follow to its conclusion, though I use that term loosely.I'm not to sure about the story scenes, as Lemm hasn't shown off how those work, and are coded, but everything else on this list are things Sable does vary well.Later!

Re: The beginning of the end for jaws?

No, I don't think this applies. Microsoft is still partnering with Vispero, NV Access, etc. I think NVDA will always be an option because it's free and is supported by the community thanks to its open source nature. The problem is JAWS/Magic/Zoom Text. What are the people at Vispero going to do if no one bothers purchasing their products in a few years because Narrator and NVDA are good enough for 99% of the tasks most people want to do?As far as I know, they can't stop Microsoft from building their own in house solutions. They might get butt hurt over it, but they're going to have to suck it up. Once again, I think it would be best if these people joined Microsoft. Imagine the talent they could bring to the Narrator and Magnifier teams.Times are a changing, and unless Vispero change their business practices, they're going to be left behind. I'm sorry, but I really think that's going to happen in the not too distant future. Hopefully organizations will wake up and realize that they don't need to pay for an expensive solution like JAWS to access Microsoft Office and other commonly used programs in the workplace when Narrator and NVDA can do it for free.I've said this before, and I'll say it again. The only legitimate reason to justify the price of JAWS is the scripting support to make applications more accessible. First, we shouldn't need scripts. Scripts are band-aid solutions that temporarily solve problems. Developers should be making their apps more accessible by following guidelines, not being lazy and using scripting as an excuse. Second, I'm pretty sure NVDA add-ons can be used for the same purposes as JAWS scripts. I don't want to hear any of this security risk nonsense either. While it's technically true, you should be fine as long as you get them from a trustworthy source such as the official NVDA repository.So, in summary, Vispero is going to have to get with the times and change their old business model which is over 20 years old, or they will be left behind. I find it absurd that they're still charging for SMA upgrades now that Windows 10 is changing so quickly. I suppose it gives them an excuse to milk more money out of agencies that don't know any better. I think the annual subscription is nice, but it's far too late IMHO. Why couldn't they have done this 10 years ago?

Re: The beginning of the end for jaws?

@7Mmm... Part of me wonders if including narrator as a default option could get Microsoft slapped with another [anti-trust lawsuit] the same way they did with pre-packaging internet explorer. If Narrator comes by default and has all the options of other screen readers, VFO or NVDA would be left out in the cold to Microsofts market dominance in that space. That might encourage them to make Narrator practical rather than awesome, but then again, is the accessibility for ones own product subject to market forces and competition?

All 2012 and later Macs support Mojave. Have you tried searching for macOS in the App Store. You should be able to download and install it that way.

Re: Is Blind Square usable/accurate in Germany?

I also recently acquired Blind Square and it seems to work fine for the most part in my country, although I've noticed that the maps seem slightly outdated, as in that it doesn't note all the intersections or places nearby , or say that there are intersections where there are none or not within the specified distance. Am I correct in saying that the maps come from Open Street Maps and that there's not much we as users can do to update them? I've heard a lot about Soundscape but it's not currently available in the South Africa store; I've been wanting to sign into my UK account to get it but haven't done so yet, so are there any particular advantages that one has over the other?

Re: Trimps

I have been playing this game for days now. It's ridiculously addictive! I'm only on my second run because my first started really slowing down at Zone 23. I maxed out loot as far as I could, and that's helped a bit. I also used 20 bones on getting the next 12 hours of resources once I worked out where the confirmation section was, although in hindsight I probs should have waited to pull that one out. Ah well.I'm running the maps for zone 14 right now, and have been running maps every level to get the bonus and move on since I unlocked maps for this run. It does help to know more about how things work than I did starting out, although I think I'll try and stick it out a bit longer before portaling.I've got some questions, though, and I haven't seen many asking questions in this thread. Should I go somewhere else for them or is it okay to ask here? I wanna optimise my game as best  I can!

Survey on Animal Acres

The developer of Animal Acres just put up a survey. She wants to know what you like, what you would change, what features you would like to add, etc.This seems to be a wonderful animal care sim with a lot of potential for additional features. In the survey, I mentioned the minor accessibility difficulty about the menus, so if you think of any other accessibility wishes, add those too. I also suggested adding crafting and trading, in hopes it would bring more players, and get us even closer to the crafting farming sim we all keep wishing for.if you want to add your input, go toanimalacres.netand look at the first news item. It links to the survey which is fully accessible.

Re: question on beating the drake in Entombed

Hi there!Its quite a long time ago that I have played this game, but as far as I remember it was not too difficult to kill the dragon - at least compared to some other nice fellows whom you will meet a little later in the game. Especcially the boss at the end has some nice spells that can kill most of your party with only one move. :-)However, what party do you have at the moment? Its hard to help you without knowing that - each character has his/her own strengths and weaknesses.Some general advice, - as far as I remember:  If you have e.g. fighters and assasins whom you have well trained then you might be successful with a flurry attack, maybe even a hidden one, and by using powerful weapons.A mage can weaken teh dragon with the shrink spell and or strenghten your physical attackers with the grow spell. Some jobs can conjure an animal, which can be helpful by taking some of the dragons attack damage which otherwise would hit your party. I think that nearly no other spells work against the dragon, as far as I remember it is quite resistant against charming, cursing and sleeping spells. But all together its not as difficult as it seeems to kill the beast.Kind regards from Daniel.

Re: a few questions about moderator actions, please read

Imho there's another kind of bad faith, which we see around here from time to time. Asking a question that seems innocent enough at face value, when the question you really want answered is against forum rules, or against the wishes of the community, etc. Similar is asking a question and giving a reason to justify your question, when the real reason you want an answer, again, is contrary to that stated, and against forum rules, etc.Examples: Several days ago, Mahdi-Abedi asked, in general terms, "What can I do to prevent people from stealing my game sounds?" Several people responded, figuring what he really wanted to ask but couldn't was, "What can developers do to keep me from stealing sounds?" Or more to the point, "How can I steal sounds?" A similar thing might happen if someone writes something like, "I was developing a game and had a hard drive crash and lost everything. I had saved a compiled version along with its data files somewhere else, but I have no source code or sound files. How do I get that back?" Again, this could be a legitimate call for help, but it could also be an attempted grab for decryption/decompilation information so they can rip off other games.An example of asking the right question for the wrong reason might be if someone asked, "How and where is the authorization for A Hero's Call stored? I want to back it up to my external drive in case my main drive ever crashes." This is fair enough on the face of it, but perhaps what they really want to say but can't because of forum rules is, "I want to make a copy of my authorization and give it to a friend without having to pay for another license."

I look forward to new content releases then that's going to be super exciting! I also wanted to start over to try and get all the items, skills and perks that I missed before since this time around all I wanted to do was see the end lol. If this game ever got a soundpack I bet a lot of people would like that. Personally I would be very pleased to see either a multi match tournament or survival mode that allows us to continue developing our character after clearing the story. Would welcome more map content too. As it is though, this is a great game that took a lot of strategic planning to finish.

Re: Proposed New Rules: Discussion and Feedback

I guess what made me think about this is, in the topic where this all came out, people were making a big deal about the personal attack as the rule violation being possibly stricken from existence by deleting the topic. In my opinion, the posting of that private Skype ID should be a violation right then and there, never mind the personal attacks that came afterward.Nobody can account for every possible violation in a set of rules. If you even tried, you'd have to say something like, "You shall not post any private or personal identifying information about anyone else such as real names, addresses, telephone numbers, Email addresses, Facebook IDs, Twitter usernames, Skype IDs, or any other type of identification for any network or service, of every kind or nature imaginable, online or offline, whether it exists at the time this rule is being written or not." You can do all that, and there'll still be somebody who either doesn't get it, or deliberately ignores it.

Haha, I'm really glad that you like the game this much but please be consider that the game's story is linear, you could not really walk other paths, just solve quests in sligthly different ways.There are different ways to defeat the antagonist though.The grammar patching is about at 50% I think, I work on this constantly with several proofreaders.I cannot tell you any information about the last locked screen, that will be locked till some future content patch comes out.I had a lot of feedbacks about the tutorial being too long, so right now I'm working on an option for new characters to start the game with a shortened tutorial for advanced RPG players.And as this game is a linear story RPG - or more like a novel for me - I don't see any option for multiple character slots right now.The thing is, I'm constantly working on Duels RPG to make it better. I have so much idea and so little time.

Re: The beginning of the end for jaws?

@Flacus, it depends upon the price of the home anual license and whether it also counts upgrades to the software.if freedom scientific are prepared to settle for at most 100 a year upgrades included it might work out, if howere people are still having to pay £200 or so for upgrades on top of the yearly price then I doubt it. Office 365 probably represents the more expensive end  of continuously paid software purchase that people are prepared to pay, and you can probably add a little onto that for the sake of it being specialist software, provided of course Jaws can offer a sufficiently superior experience to the free alternatives available, which is another question in and of itself. Myself, I jut wish Freedom scientific would stop all this ridiculous "well we'll offer a special license out of the goodnes of our hearts to people in some countries" and flat out drop the price out right. They've frankly had too much of a monopoly and a captive audience for too long, especially when Window eyes went down and with Dolphin no longer being a contender, and I for one will be very happy to see that change.

Re: Dreamland-official version

I've already stated numerous times that translating with NVDA at the moment is not a good idea. I have more specific instructions using clipreader and q-translate, which, I stress, is the recommended method at the oment.

Sonus PCP - PC Player

2019-03-29 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Aaronlp via Audiogames-reflector

Sonus PCP - PC Player

Hi Guys.Some of you will know about the Sonus Interactive audio console I am working on, well today I finished a rough version of a PC Player.The Sonus has free to download tool kit to make games called the G D E, with tutorials on the www.sonusinteractive.co.uk website. however these games needed the console to play which isn't released yet. So I decided to release a PC Player to allow people to start making games and sharing their creations which is what it is all about.So if anyone wants to give game development a try. please feel free to download the new GDE which has gone through a big update and can now make 3D audio enviroments (Ive added a tutorial on the tutorials page on how to do that).The GDE also now has a faster way to make games using GDE script to quickly add actions to events but I havent made a tutorial on that yet but will do soon.If anyone has any questions or feedback, please do share. Either on here or on the feedback form on the website or our twitter or facebook page.
