Re: What in your opinion should paid games have To make it worth buying

The one audiogamer I met in real life made it very clear he prefers the kinds of games where he can become stupidly overpowered and just sit around oneshotting n00bs all day with no effort. His comments on Swamp were "That game was never that good. If you didn't have a mouse you were screwed."It's become clear to me that I am sufficiently bad at understanding anyone else as to inevitably fail to distinguish that sort of attitude from me genuinely failing to make a game that communicates and is playable. This makes it way too easy to develop contempt for your audience, when the audience is not the problem. And I'd rather avoid that. So if I suck, and it gets increasingly difficult to distinguish whether it's my or your failure causing the problems, then clearly the solution is to just stop wasting everyone's time.I will say that it bugs me when a creator creates something, the audience has issues with it, and the creator holds the audience in contempt. Ryan Jonson after The Last Jedi is the most salient recent example, but I'd also say that Team Four Star's reaction to people disliking the "My Way" bit from DBZ: Abridged episode 60.3 comes close (the audience apparently could only say "it's too long!", or at least, that's all Kaiser Neko responded to. The problem is not that it's too long; it's that it wrecks the tension of the freakin' climax! To put it in terms TFS would understand: they blueballed everyone and called it art.).Point is, mumble mumble shades of grey mumble everyone sucks, devs and players alike, or something like that. That Swamp and Bokurano Daibouken remain popular speaks to the ability of a good enough game to overcome this mess. If I could pay a million bucks to get someone like Aprone or Nyanchan to develop full-time without burn-out, I might do exactly that.

I'm trying to finish up BK3 on super wolf.  At least 6 times now I've won the final battle only to die on the run with Carla past the cracking walls.  I've occasionally had problems before here but nothing like this.  Last time I checked shortly before I died (around coordinate 215) and I was a comfortable 8 spaces ahead of Carla.  I've been aiming for a lead of about 5-9 spaces.Should I target something else?  All I get is the loud wall falling noise and the game closes (without an error message).  Should this happen?  I can't really tell whether I died from being too slow or too fast.

How to install an IPA to your iOS devices with your Windows computer

2019-10-31 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Articles Room : rwbeardjr via Audiogames-reflector

How to install an IPA to your iOS devices with your Windows computer

Hi. This guide is designed to give you a description of how to use your Windows computer to install an IPA file to your iOS device be it your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. Please note that this guide is similar to the guide for Mac OS, but some steps are different. Please keep in mind that this guide does not give you any places to get IPA files. Therefore, I will assume you already have the file you want to install. So without further to do, let's install some IPAs.Step 1. If you don't have it already, get iTunes on your computer. It is a free download from the Microsoft Store, and it is needed in order for your device to communicate with your computer. Without it, Impacter will not recognize your device.Step 2. Get Sydia Impacter. You can just type Download Sydia Impacter into Google, click the first link, and be sure to select the Windows version.Step 3. Once the file has downloaded, navigate to the folder you have selected your downloads to go to. The file is a standard zip, so extract it.Step 4. Run Impacter.exe.Step 5. Let the application load, and check the combo boxes. One will say the name of your device, and the second one wants you to install some package. Do not install this package. You will not need it.Step 6. This is the part that is similar to doing this process on a Mac. Visit appleid.apple.com and find the security section. Generate an app specific password and write it down on your computer. Save this in a word processor of your choice and do not lose it. If you lose it, you will not be able to retrust the certificate.Step 6. Go back into Impacter and open the menu bar with the Alt key.Step 7. Use the right arrow until you hear device.Step 8. Once you hear device, hit the down arrow until you hear Install package. You can also press Alt, followed by D, then press I.Step 11. Locate the IPA you wish to install and press enter on it.Step 12. Enter your Apple ID and press enter.Step 13. You will be in a field that asks for a password. Paste the app specific password we generated into the field and press enter.Step 14. Let the program install the file. Note that if you are using NVDA, you will get a bunch of beeps and NVDA will read out a bunch of percentages.Step 15. The beeps and percentages will briefly stop, and then restart again.Step 16. The app will act like it is installed, but it doesn't always install on the first try. So just repeat the steps above until it shows up on your home screen.Step 17. Now that you have installed the IPA, you need to trust the profile. Simply go to Settings, General, Profiles and Device Management, and enter the option that lists your Apple ID. Click it and hit trust. It will ask you if you want to trust it, and you will need to hit trust one more time.Step 18. Close out settings, locate the installed icon on your home screen, and have fun. If you have any questions about this guide, please let me know on this topic, or contact me on twitter @rwbeardjr

HEy,Stellaris is, let's say a moving target. MOO at least is more or less static. I'll definitely keep everyone posted with any progress I make, however. As far as MOO goes, one of my longer-term goals is to improve the combat display, so it's not as visual. It's certainly possible to understand with a little practice, but could be better.

Shank 1 and 2, some questions

Hey everyone. So, although they are a bit older, I grabbed shank 1 and 2 off steam because they are quite low priced and they seam to be a fun experience.I heard that they are accessbile, but I was wondering about something.did anyone of you complete one or even both of the games and if so, how much sighted help did you guys need.In case you get stuck in a level, is there something like a guide available telling you what to do in case running around and slaughtering enemys doesn't work.i only played the first level or so of the game and died quite a lot of times, so, maybe you guys have a tips for the shank games.Greetings Moritz.

Major Steam improvements

Major Steam improvements

I have some very good news for steam users. If you have Steam installed, quit and restart it to get the latest update. Once you get the update, the main screen is usable with a screen reader. It displays like a web page, and you can arrow through and read the content. It's far from perfect, with many elements appearing as text only etc., and they haven't yet done anything for the news section, context menus and so on but this is a big step in the right direction.

Oh agreed. I don't need billions of sounds for every single event or every wall to make a sound. I want to be challenged but I do think it's a perception isue of oh I don't want to upset a community so I'l make my games easy. Nah. I enjoyed the hell out of Darksiders 1, 2, I enjoyed God of War 1 and 2, I'm a sucker for spectacle fighters, orwas. Hell, I even liked the cheesy and alright Lollipop Chansaw (I will never, /ever/ like Mickey. That song can go die.../sarcasm ) because it was different and...fun. They were challenging games.I do think a lot of it comes down to how audiogames are made. Take Eurofly for example, on their list there's people crying omg if it's too hard nobody will play it. THat I think is part of the bigger issue. If somebody nailed asayDark Souls-type audiogame, Full on 3D, hard as balls difficulty but made you feel accomplished, I'd pick it up instantly. I'd splash out serious cash if a game was, say, God of War 1/2/3/201X reboot just with sounds only. Okay. That's a pipe dream...but hear me out.I don't want the same rehashed game ideas over and over, honestly when I look at a new release topic, I'm always thinking in the back of my mind yeah, but how long till I get bored of it. That's when there's something wrong with everything really. I played AHC. My opinion on it hasn't changed that I feel like it's a poor man's JRPG but the whole consensus is I'm a giant dick for disliking it. Problem. I grew up on things like the Megadrive/Genesis, PC RPGs. I know how I want an RPG to play.Something like Warsim is worth itto me, because it's in my wheelhouse. Showed it to a a few blind friends, they were whining about oh there's no sound, oh it looks too hard. I then, for S showed them Dwarf Fortress, and asked which they'd rather play. They told me neither and I wasted my money buying Warsim. Joke's on them. I'm liking Warsim, and the text based Master of Orion. Okay. The latter isn't paid, and again, no sounds. But here's the point. Both of those titles can be picked up by anyone and played, I've had Steam friends (before I nuked my list) ask about Warsim, I explained it. They all said it's awesome a blind guy can create a game like that and then they hit me up saying 'oh I checked that blindie games forum and the community put me off. How do you manage to deal with them'So in essence. I think there are gems in the rough, but I think there's a long long way to go.So to answer @1:Give me something that's fun, I can sink hours into and that is unique. It doesn't have to even have sounds, see Warsim/Master of Orin for that, both games I'll happily sink hours into, or Code 7. All three are different. All three are not your usual run of the mill. I was fine with paying for Code 7. Because I enjoyed the free demo episode, I wouldn't, and this is me being brutal, expect any of the big name devs here (with one or two deceptions) to come up with anything like Code 7 easily, because it's so far outside the usual new releases. Hell, I'm actually...excited for Pitch Black, too come to think of it.EDIT: Also, Swamp s definitely good. I just hate paying for subscriptions. If I had a mouse on this laptop I'd probably play it way more. C'mon. It's Halloween as I'm writing this. I still think Swamp (and not played it in forever) isn't anywhere close to videogames. It's got potential, yeahbutI'd like to see Aprone rework it in Python and make it cross platform and break away from BGT. If that's happened, whack me with Mjolnir.

Re: What in your opinion should paid games have To make it worth buying

Yeah, GE was the forerunner to PD, much like body harvest was to the GTA series, but everyone forgets.  Shame Rare got dropped by nintendo, really.  Far as I'm concerned, 2k marked the end of gaming as I'll forever remember it, which probably means that even though I'm only 31, I'm too old now.Still, I ask myself daily what it'll take to breathe some life into this community... I mean, the parallels between audiogamers and mainstreamers are there; they truly do exist.  Trolls on mainstream FPS's, trolls on online audiogame FPS's.  Pricy games with tons of realistic graphics, pricy audiogames with walls of superb sound design.  And you know what?  I think it all stems from the fact that today's gamers are afraid of taking a serious beating!N please make a game that'll hold my hand!  I don't wana die!  I don't wana lose all the progress I've made, all the points I've accumulated, all the XP I've acquired, all the equipment I've managed to obtain.  When I came into the community, I almost felt like I had taken a step backwards, and I felt that feeling even more immensely once I played Swamp and , ya know, actually died?Because whatever else Swamp may be, it challenges.  It didn't give you an audio-crosshair for better aiming with some cheesy beepy blippy ringing dingging radar that was activated as soon as zombies were centered, didn't start you off with great weaponry, didn't give you endless amounts of ammunition, didn't tell you how to go find quest items, didn't give you a ton of information about how zombies would react in various senarios, didn't forgive you for dying by reimbursment of any kind, or make it possible for any particular set of players to have any greater advantage than others.  Oh, and of course!  The mouse!  You might be able to tweek the keyboard to work for you, but I'm willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that unless something major has changed, the mouse still works better!

@9: thumps up. Exactly the same thing here. It's the only thing we got right now, and that's unfortunately no one but our own communities fold. Why do you think my fps alpha is lying here on my comp but i am not at all motivated to finish it? Same for all the beta games that never came out? Well, here you go. If you are unconstructive to devs (old ones but especially new ones), you will get exactly this result. The fighting arena topic is the ultimate example. I just tried to bring something real, not like lc, and everyone basically said "Fuck of we don't need your shit". If you continue like this, the kloning problem won't ever change.

Re: VGStorm Presents Manamon, a new fully featured RPG!

So I remember now why I didn't really care for dramegon before. It's kinda slow, and can't be used against certain things or it's just begging to die. You can't use it to fight irroadium at all. Not even a little bit. Maybe kinda sorta provided you've taken the time to grind it well beyond irroadium's level, which seems pointless and stupid. Guerrerrol is kinda fun to play except for when power kick is missing. But again, you can't fight irroadium with it because it's just going to be killed with toxic storm. I thought about trying orystar again but I remember this thing being kinda fragile, plus it doesn't get meteor rush until close to 50 I think.

Re: Breed Memorial - New monster breeder simulation game by Morokuma

Well picked up this game after a while, since its not exactly a progressive game. One thing which seems odd to me is the amount of fusion items you get, and the fact that lots have ary less than defined effects, like those mutation gems, or maybe its that I should be fusing more monsters than I am, since in general I've been concentrating on one monster at a time, then fusing that monster when it's stats are high enough. I also really would prefer it if old monsters could actually get to the end of their life. Spoilage ahoy for anyone who hasn't had a monster die and played on. I've seen the monk who eventually turned up to mention my first monster and unlocked ghost and zombie types, but it'd be nice if there were more reasons to let monsters live their life to the end, heck I'd sort of prefer monster breeding to actual fusing even though I know the game is based on monster rancher and of course the kidsies couldn't cope with monsters doing anything not family friendly like actual breeding with each other .Still, in a progressive game like this, bloodlines would be fun, as would a bit more exploring and  monster battles.

It is indeed  apossibility. In the game's folder, there is a "gamedata" folder, itself containing a "data" subfolder, in which you can find a file called "lang.csv" that can be modified for translation in other languages.

Re: Braille reading speeds?

Because the eyes can process an incomparable amount of information compared to two fingers.I haven't used braille in a really long time; however, when I used uncontracted Braille, I would try to guess, based on the grammatical structure of the sentence, what the word was by just reading the beginning of the word. So if we had the sentence: "We had an informative discussion today" vs. "We had a meeting where a lot of information was given", I simply read info and based on the structure of the given sentences, I can make out when it is information and when it is informative.I'm not sure for what reason you have to use Braille, but I suppose it would be a good idea to combine it with speech output and perhaps improve the spead of reading.

I don't care about bells and whistles if the underlying product is crap to be honest. I'd rather have a game that's solid and fun, but may not have the best visuals r sounds than one that's dull and has a billion flashy effects. Mostly since, flashy effects can wow players into liking awful games, but the best games can stand on their own without flash effects. I'm not a fan of many paid audiogames since I don't feel they live up to what I personally deem worth paying for. I'm tired of the hype machine, tired of omg omg omg omg omg omg best game evarrr when a new game comes out and nobody's taking a look at it and stepping back really. That's the thing, I'm so sick of it.

A while back I managed to almost create the boxing game in the manual but messed up somewhere along the line and so one of the sounds wouldn't play. But I also feel this market has too few RPG's and certainly too few that really showcase what that genre really has to offer. And I hope someday to get my grubby little paws on the console.

Agree with 2 and 3. Linux any day, no exceptions over here. Windows is a terrible choice for a server system. Why Microsoft created it is beyond me; they probably did it to try to gain a foothold in the server market (which backfired on them). The only use for windows based servers is active directory, which is now in Azure (and there are better alternatives).

Re: What OS do you use as a server

Yes, while Windows is good as a consumer-grade OS, most server programs for the web and what not work better on Linux with the obvious exception of BGT servers, which is why so many audiogame developers seem to go with Windows servers over Linux ones.Going back to my original point, you'll be far more likely to see tutorials and documentation for running server programs on Linux as opposed to Windows. In most cases, getting a LAMP stack running is more or less using the package manager and doing some little edits to config files. If you have an issue with installation or getting your FTP server to work or whatever, you can just google it. IIRC Apache isn't officially supported on Windows, so you'll have to find an unofficial build. There are programs (Wamp, Xampp) that will get a web stack up and running for you, but I think they are intended for development by default because that's what you do on Windows. Configuring for production will probably be more work. Then it just comes down to the fact that Windows on a server just uses more resources and will probably cost you more money do to licensing anyways.

From what I know, Arturia uses the one knob per function principe where it is possible and from what I read, the micro freak seems to be relatively easy to handle. The only thing I am unsure about at the moment are the sensoric buttons. Can we feel where each sensor is? Maybe someone can report about it. I know it has a display, but from what I saw in tests and such there are no or not so many and complex menus. I will check the manual though, but I think experiences from a blinds perspective are not bad as well.

in the chaos version, there are some notable differences. For example, enemys hit much harder and attack faster. You also run faster. Some weapons have different modes to them and you are able to get some weapons sooner than you'd otherwise be able to. Some maps are also layed out differently. One that comes to mind is stage 7 where you have to get the crystals. Those levels are actually much easier in chaos version. The other nice thing is that your weapons cannot hit carla when she is fighting with you. One of the other intresting things i've noticed, and i'm not sure whether or not this is a bug, but normally if you take too much damage from magic bariers in the normal version your sky racer will crash. What i've found in this version is that you can actually plow through them and take endless amounts of damage. Even though you hear the crashing sound, your health will reach the negatives but you will never lose the stage.

I've ran into this myself. While I believe that I am a fast Braille reader, there are certain people who read print that are impossible to read faster and understand completely the text that you are reading. Because they have two eyes that can scan an entire page separately, they have the ability to read in blocks, while with Braille, if I were to read in blocks, it would be a jumbled mess.

Re: A question for developers About something I want to Attempt to create

Hi,I write compilers for a living and have been doing this for over five years now. None of these compilers are released to the public since they're for our own, internal consumption. Many top level university professors as well (when I was going for my CS degree) would actively discourage us from trying to mainstream yet another new language. This has happened with compilers themselves, to the point where there exists a parser called YACC (Yet Another Compiler Compiler) which is widely used among people who write compilers to generate their parsers (personally I prefer writing my parsers from scratch.)So, here you must ask yourself: why?If your intention is to expand your skillset, yes, you should definitely write a compiler. But this also depends on what you want to do. Do you see yourself in a position in the future (like I did) where you will be writing grammars and later writing compilers for these grammars? If not, then there is really no need for you to embark on this goal except for the thrill of it. A phrase comes to mind here that one of the engineers I know has said to me: "Many people get CS degrees who don't really need them."Next, are you looking to mainstream your language? You mentioned a concern being if people will use your language. I would suggest that people will not, and this is mostly due to the fact that more people are now adopting Python which is pretty much as easy to learn as they come and does as much for you as can be done. So, any goal you have: "Python's done it."So, if you're going to adoption alone, no, don't write the compiler. If you're looking to expand your skills and actually see how a language is compiled, sure. But don't be disappointed when no one adopts name recognition of your language or you don't end up buying out Sun Microsystems. In other words, think far, far bigger than just the small little tantrum-infested insignificant Audiogames community. Use that scope to determine whether or not to write a compiler.

Re: Braille reading speeds?

Ask not a random sighted person, but a sighted person who has been reading print for two years. The mismatch is troublesome, but not your fault.I basically read Braille the way that person described reading print, but, when I had enough vision for large print, I could only read it the way you currently read Braille. Technique, experience, opportunities, etc, etc, are all over the place.

What's the point of depositing vaccines in your stash? Also, I'm supposed to deposit grain in a safehouse kitchen, right? How do I get my bread after it is produced?Never mind, I got it. You withdraw from the inventory I think.Yet another question, how can I refill my happy meter?

YEah. I just ran the PDF through VoiceDream Reader, which helped a lot. It has the same effect and I think the text conversion is a little better.
