@18, Grow up and stop acting like your 12. The admins dealt with it; there is absolutely no point in creating circular conflicts that go nowhere and don't actually do anything other than generally causing harm and destruction to everyone involved. As Jayde said, 2 wrongs don't make a right. In this instance I think you could've easily controlled yourself, especially since it was not an attack on your person in particular but a generalization.

The Internet Communication Engine (ICE) by 0C

2019-12-15 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : Ethin via Audiogames-reflector

The Internet Communication Engine (ICE) by 0C

This definitely isn't new -- its been out for a while now -- but thought it might make some things easier for networking. The ICE is a framework for building networked applications using a simple, easy to read and understand specification language (called the "Specification Language for ICE" (SLICE)). Despite the extra overhead of using an external language for defining your network operations, this allows a ridiculous amount of flexibility. The ICE runtime supports clients and servers in Matlab, Python, C++, Java, _javascript_, Objective C, Ruby, C#, PHP, and Swift. It also has a set of tools that allow patch distribution for software updates, superservers, and more. The documentation is available over here. It runs on (at least) Windows, Mac, and Linux, though I strongly suspect that it works on far more than that. Plus, its fully open source!A very basic interface for a server-client contract in Slice looks lke this:module test {
interface test {
void print(string s);
}
}The key to realize here is that you define your contract (your operations) in Slice, which are only definitions and not implementations. You implement those definitions in the target language of choice. Yes, the _javascript_ Ice runtime does support running in a web browser, though I'm unsure how you'd get that working.) Also, slice has something called Slice checksums. This allows the client to send a request to the server, asking for a list of all of the stored checksums for the servers contract. The client could then retrieve its own list of checksums for its version of the contract and scan both for mismatches or missing elements. Should it find one, the client can immediately halt and require you to update before continuing. This is nice because you can only have a fully functional system if both the server and client agree on the contract that they both have (that is, both sets of checksums match).What do you guys think? Would this be useful in multiplayer games? (Side note: it works over TCP, UDP, WebSockets, Bluetooth and iAP, though I'm not sure why you'd want to play a game over bluetooth or iAP.) It would greatly ease network management; no longer would you need to focus on implementing a network event loop, you could just let Ice handle that for you. I encourage you guys to check it out -- you might like it!

See, if you'd done some of your own research, you'd already have the answer to your question.Also, take note of the fact that no one is answering you. Maybe they, too, are getting sick of the notion of people asking similar questions over and over? If so, I couldn't be happier. I have nothing against you personally, and I do hope you figure things out, but I really want you (and others too, of course) to learn to do some of your own work first. If you've done that and you still can't find an answer, that's definitely something where a bit of help given is a good thing. I'm totally in favour. In this case, though, you have clearly not done any of your own work.

Re: I'm a little on edge, looking for advice

I mean, you do you, but thinking that brexit won't fuck you over is very short sighted and the entire reason the UK is in the mess it's in to begin with.The EU might be rather shitty, fully agree there, but you know what's even shittier? Having to have emergency stockpiles of food because you can't buy them from anyone once January roles around and Bojoh drops you guys out with no plan.The EU is not the most democratic organisation, and honestly as a leftist I fully understand how you can see it as the imbodyment of everything evil about capitalism, but just dropping out without a plan is not how you deal with any of that, and it was pretty clear even back in 2016 when the actual referendum happened that any deal you guys were going to get was going to be awful anyways. Much more effective to stay in and have at least some say in the regulations that affect your biggest trading partners (before you say the US will step in to fill that role might I suggest you get yourself a map and realize how much further away the US is).I think the UK election is another huge reminder though that calling the other side dumb racists is not how you win elections and only serves to mobalise the opposition. The day of the election my facebook feed was full of my UK friends making pro Labor memes and acting like they'd already won and thank god now we can finally fix the mess those idiot leave voters left us, then were shocked when they woke up with a Con majority. This you are wrong and racist and I won't dirty my hands by interacting with you instead I'll just make sure you can't express your opinions anywhere I can see it and pretend that means they went away attitude is how the world got Trump, how the UK got Brexit and now Bojoh, and it needs to stop. Some day we on the left will need to learn, and I just hope that day comes before it's too late.

2019-12-15 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : rashad via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Bookrage's choiceofgames reviews

I'm really surprised Choice of Rebels hasn't been mentioned yet. It's objectively one of their best games, (biggest opening day sales, very highly rated, one of the longest in the main line), and deserves every ounce of praise it's ever gotten. Joel Havenstone is just on a different level writing wise compared to your average COG writer. It's one of the only games where I've gone back multiple times and just made the same choices to relive the story for it's own merits, it's just that good. Seriously, could go on for hours about how much I love this one, would kill to get my hands on the next four games in the series sooner rather than later. If you took out the choices and made it into a novel series I'd still read it, not to imply that it's the type of game to railroad you a lot. Another great writer as Dark mentioned is Paul Wang, who did Mecha Ace, which is a great standalone, Choice of Broadsides HMS Foraker, which is a short free game, and the Kendrickstone series, which honestly not so much a fan of. He's also done the Infinity series for the hosted games line, and those are his best work, they're just in the hosted games line because they're genderlocked male and COG isn't down for that.Another one I really enjoyed is Slammed, which somehow manages to be awesome even though I'm not really a wrestling fan (more into MMA). It's just a compelling story, that explains everything it needs to explain so that it's accessible to your average reader. it's the character dynamics that make this one great.Choice of robots is also really solid, and has ridiculous amounts of variability in how the story can play out.All of Mike Walter's stuff (Life of a wizard/mobster, lost air) is very vanilla and sticks to genre tropes, but really fun if you're into minmaxy RPG stuff. Clear, concise writing, isn't trying to do more than entertain you for a couple hours. Definitely something I'd classify as a  game, not a gamebook.Zombie exodus, both of them, are also really good, and are worth your time if you're into zombies, but they do have their weaknesses so it really depends.There's a bunch that aren't that great as games, but got me to chuckle, like choice of the star captain, For rent haunted house, and neighborhood necromancer, but I definitely wouldn't start with those.I'll come back if I can think of any more.

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

Team Busted just busted the Maustadon's face. Byron was a cakewalk, but that says more about Byron than about Team Busted. Slothegor and Werewolfsyre got killed once each, and when I revived them they were as strong as ever; of course, if they had done good damage after turn 2, I wouldn't have had to revive them because Byron and his goons wouldn't even have had time to get attacks off, but such is life with this team. The Maustadon was easy by comparison.Escargma is going to get Terramagma, which it likes because it doesn't care if it goes last. Slothegor is going to get clobber, which is nice for coverage. Viralite gets...uh, Restoration? Hello, Astral Buster. We really, really need you. Even Spirit Force, but I'd prefer Astral Buster. Because Tricky Gaze...just ain't cuttin' it. Limitations of movesets FTW, am I right? Myaneko is doing what Myaneko does (kill stuff in two hits, die in one or two hits if it's weak to stuff). Frostond is not busted at all; it's a one-trick pony but it hits relatively hard. Werewolfsyre just got Black Bite, and I finally ditched Wallow because seriously, who's going to sit around and get hit by fight---ah, wait, I forgot. No choice in the matter. Still, I have never once used this move, and it wouldn't matter if I did. Three or four rounds in, and I won't be doing damage and won't be taking hits, so it's a wasted moveslot. Would rather wreck while I have the chance.Verdict so far: Erratic Battler is making this very un-fun and tedious, and ensuring that I will never again use these manamon until or unless this ability is hugely upgraded (maybe split into two separate abilities, where Slothegor gets one and Werewolfsyre gets the other? I could totally see Werewolfsyre getting the ability where it can't switch because it's too battle-enraged, and I could see the sloth getting the ability where its stats start out a little higher than normal, but flag quickly. I dunno. To me, that sounds like manamon with themes, vs. manamon with crippling ungodly weaknesses that make any battle past five rounds or so a death sentence.

Okay, first revision of game guide for Dissidia Final Fantasy is up. Should I make a new thread for this? Anyways, I wanted to get the ball rolling, so here's that:https://github.com/devinprater/accessib … es-list.mdFor anyone who wants to contribute, link to main page is:https://github.com/devinprater/accessible-retro-gamesIf a new thread is created, I just would want to use that to announce new games added. That just branched from this Retroarch Accessibility project, so that's why I'm posting about this first thing here.

Hello there. So I know this is not a Manamon2 question but a Manamon1 question. I really need some help with getting the water and plant starters. I have a Desktop and Laptop Computer. Does anyone have all 158 Manamon from manamon1 in a save file? That way I can trade between the two machines and I can breed baby ones if need be. Now a Manamon 2 Question. I also need to get the water and plant starters for this one too. But I can go between the two machines. It tells me invalid session on both machines and disconnects them. Someone please help.

2019-12-15 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : magurp244 via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Best way to learn building gui?

A good way to learn is to pick a feature you plan on using, and play around with a small example of it, then move on to the next feature when you figure it out. One step at a time. Graphical GUI's also rely a bit on geometry for placement within a given frame or window, but can also handle auto placement a bit with dividers. For now though, here's an example for capturing key presses:import wx

class MyForm(wx.Frame):
def __init__(self):
wx.Frame.__init__(self, None, wx.ID_ANY, "Key Press Tutorial")

#Add a panel so it looks correct on all platforms
panel = wx.Panel(self, wx.ID_ANY)
#create a button and label it ok
btn = wx.Button(panel, label="OK")
#bind button to key press event, which calls onKeyPress when triggered
btn.Bind(wx.EVT_KEY_DOWN, self.onKeyPress)

#handle key press
def onKeyPress(self, event):
#get key value
keycode = event.GetKeyCode()

print(keycode)

if keycode == wx.WXK_SPACE:
print("you pressed the spacebar!")
#skip event so it isn't blocking
event.Skip()

# Run the program
if __name__ == "__main__":
app = wx.PySimpleApp()
#load the frame class
frame = MyForm()
#show it so its visible and active
frame.Show()
app.MainLoop()The button appears in the upper left corner in the given example, because its position is not defined.

A bit of a late reply, but better late than never, I guess.The issue I first posted about seems to have been fixed, and most of the site is pretty easy to navigate. Unfortunately, when it comes to actually playing videos,  (You know, what most people use YouTube four) The site has gotten far worse, and it’s   Basically unusable with voiceover. @CAE_Jones:   I had the exact same thought, and while I was able to hold out for quite a while, I eventually had to cave and download the YouTube app.   Thankfully, as dan_c  pointed out, it could be far worse,  if twitch is anything to go by.

@Bookrage, oddly enough I remember the finesse achievement I got on my first playthrough, because finesse tended to go with honour, and I think I  the wealth one when I decided to smash things up. the one I've never worked out is stopping your own heart.Well I've just finished in the service of Mrs. Clause, and as this is a review topic I'll post some thoughts here, since this topic is likely to have a longer shelflife than the main one in new releases, and I did say what I thought of other Cog titles previously. I really liked the world and the mix of random powers, indeed it reminded me heavily of Terry Pratchett's hog father, which is definitely a good thing, also massive credit for writing a game with very fluid gender characters and romance options that wasn't in your face or overly preachy about it. I only had two miner issues. First, as with many later cog titles, it's not always  clear when your on the "increase character stats" phase, and when your on the actual game where those stats will be tested, this meant I had a massively high christmas cheer score, and only mediocre tinkering, which meant I failed some of the tests later on when I couldn't rely on christmas cheer, indeed there was one test towards the end when I simply was just not given the right stats to test so directly missed out on something helpful. I  thought this one suffered slightly from having too many characters, including stats for characters who were only in one scene, though I did like the part when multiple characters turned up at the climax, indeed some of the climactic moments in this were pretty awesome.I won't say much surprised me, then again I probably took one of the most straight forward paths, finishing up married to Mrs. Clause, though again romantically the other character I was involved with sort of didn't have much to do, though I was glad to  get the chance to break it off with her when it was clear I was interested in becoming the next santa .There are some fun achievements, though I'm not sure how much the story deviates if played through multiple times and if other paths lead to really different episodes, or just the same events told from a different slant, indeed some of the choices I got indicated as much. Still, it was a fun way to spend a few hours and a nice reminder to me of how much fun the Cog games can b. Not up there with the likes of mecha ace, but not half bad either.

Re: Games for Linux

There's actually quite a lot of new and current linux releases, it just kind of depends on where you look. Steam made a push for developers to build for linux with the now defunct SteamOS, and itch.io also has a large category of linux games, same with GOG. Each of those platforms, steam, GOG, itch.io, all have their own respective games management apps as well, though GOG Galaxy doesn't seem to work on linux, unlike the other two. Usually updates seem to be handled through the apps rather than for each game independantly. I know Unity and Unreal engines can build for linux as well, though larger companies seem to stick mostly with windows, like the Master Chief Collection, Blizzard, etc.

Re: Balloon master!

Hi,this is a decision I asked the forum about and took the responses very seriously. I was going to make BM free a few months ago but held off because I didn't want to upset the customers who paid for the game. I thought about taking the order page off the website and allowing the paid players to enjoy the game. I figured... if I do that keys will start being shared and I don't have the time to check and moniter keylogs for abuse anymore. Most of my time is spent looking for a job, helping out at schools or just life situations that come up.This is why a lot of you got away for a while with perilous marathon keys being shared around. I thought long and hard today and went and looked at the game's source code. Its... a bit messy. I wouldn't say its screwed up to the point of no return, but it is not in the best of shape. I could have done a lot of things differently, but the point is... I don't code in this language anymore. You could say to just code in BGT, and I would. But python gives me much better options with code. I eventually will sit down and recode BM in python, it this time, it'll be completely free for anyone to play. Scoreboards, modes, minigames, etc. For now, the game is free, and it will stay that way for the new version as well. To anyone who paid, please contact me if you feel as though you were just ripped off $5. Money's tight at the moment, so I can't exactly give you a refund, but I could give you a free copy of Perilous Marathon. To anyone wondering of that game's state, the game will receive an update as soon as I can fix my compiler with python.Thanks for your understanding, dedication to my games, support, and time.

@matt1211:   Are you talking about the problem with Google Chrome/NVDA, or the issue with multiple tabs being open in adobe reader?@defender:    While I haven’t had any problems with web browsers,  or when using multiple windows at once, navigating through folders and settings, or even just on the desktop,   has always been a real pain with NVDA.    When navigating through the desktop  or Windows Explorer, for example, there’s always this weird lag going on  it doesn’t show up anywhere else.    A prime example is  downloading something off the Internet. Everything runs smooth as glass while  i’m on Google Chrome, but when it comes time to save the file,  or find/open it once it’s been saved, navigating to the proper folder is an absolute nightmare.Good to hear they’re looking into making things faster.  Would be nice to not have to switch between Jaws  and NVDA constantly. Do you know when the new version will be available?

Hello.I've been playing a Galaxy Labs game called Gekiransen All Star Batnet, and it's definitely a fun little game. I've unlocked almost everything in it, except a few things. I also heard that, like Shadow Rine, this game has passwords. The manual says to check the website and other games, but I couldn't find anything on the Galaxy Labs site or through a forum search. Does anyone have an any ideas? I'm also having trouble figuring out exactly how many more characters I need to unlock to get all of them. I'll have the names of the characters I've unlocked so far at the end of this post if any of you guys unlocked all of them. I just tried restoring on the website, but it claims I haven't bought the games, and according to  Faq you need to manually email them receipts as proof of purchase to transfer from Ioss, goodness knows how I'd get those receipts out of Apple, particularly because some were bought with my credit card, and some before I changed the email address on my Apple Id. I don't mind playing on Ios too much though, not if I can sort out the sprawling  mess of all the programs vs the omnibus ap, which it seems I can do, albeit it'll take quite a while to get them all transferred across since there was a point I bought all the games as a matter of course, although I haven't played too many of them, which is something I would like to at least somewhat remedy now.also, as it probably looks as though I'll be waiting around in hospitals quite a bit,  something like the Cog games to play might be good.To actually have some fun though, I've bought in the service of Mrs. Claws; getting the crimbo discount,  and am three chapters in and liking so far.

Re: Code Factory voices

@Cmerri: No, Eloquence was not even made by IBM. IT was made by Eloquent Technologies, Incorporated, IBM adopted the speech for use in their Viavoice product. Also, Nuance technically owns eci.dll, if you're talking about the one from JAWS. It was never actually legal for anyone to use the dll outside of JAWS, the only reason it was so accepted in the first place is that there really was no legitimate solution for Eloquence for NVDA, but now there is. Like I said, I have legitimate access to an Eloquence that can be used with NVDA through my copy of Kurzweil1000, the only software package I'm aware of that still actively carries the openly-usable sapi4 Eloquence. MOst of you will more than likely not be using that package though as it's quite pricy.At any rate, stupid as it may be Nuance does own the rights to the library so they can do whatever they want with it, and there will be no one to stop them because competition is next to none in the text to speech industry if we aren't counting in the virtual assistant's race to the top, so if you're using Eloquence through an unofficial means you aren't within your rights to say hey look there's this perfect solution that totally works and it won't cost you a dime. Technically possible? Yes. Legal? No.By that same token I do wonder how long Nuance can technically keep their hold on the Eloquence library seeming as though they don't want to update the legacy code. Eloquence has been one of JAWS's biggest selling points for the past decade and a half now, and once Windows makes the switch to Arm 64bit, it may be the end of that era. Then again, it may be the end of JAWS given all the legacy code that still powers the thing to this day.

This was a problem I had (now I'm on Linux but I still have Windows on this thing so I can play games LOL) and I've experienced this before. I read a lot of specifications and other large documents, and NVDA (and evenOrca at times) freezes up on large documents. Re: the blood rain, need a hand

The 7.62 Cal MG is pretty good for archers, incendiary machine gunners, flame thrower wielders, and those guys with the chain guns, but generally you will only start seeing stuff like that at level 8 and onward, and if you can afford it, the casale 300 assault rifle does everything the 7.62 cal machine gun can do but better.Yes, that's right, the beeping means an enemy is in range.  The regular sniper rifle is much slower to reload but has a significantly greater range and power than the electrium sniper rifle, which has 5 rounds in a magazine.I will often use the regular sniper rifle as a scanner when nearing the end of the map, so I know if I can relax or not, and sometimes I like to use it to clear my path when moving away from an edge to make things a bit easier.Just make sure to wait a little bit after each shot for the squish sound to make sure you aren't shooting extra ammo at an already dead enemy.And if you fire more than 3 times with the regular sniper rifle and you don't hear a kill sound, it's probably a shielded enemy and you should stop shooting as to not waste ammo.

There are standardized ways on Linux too (eg the package managers). However, you can also just require that users do not install the game through the package manager and instead install it in their home directory, then use a service to distribute updates. Alternatively, they can install it through a package manager but just not allow JustUpdate to work (because the package manager will handle those).

Re: infini crawl, text dungeon crawling rpg similar to the wastes.

That would be good, since being one shotted from 245 health down to zero is annoying. I wouldn't have minded if it was my own fault for not bailing out and eating humble pie earlier on when things got tough, but the fact that  was physically not able to presteige at that point was mildly frustrating, particularly since the missing out of earlier scenes is actively detrimental at that stage, and of course dying with no presteige means no progression next time. Progressive achievements would also be good in  own right. I'd particularly like to see a bestiary achievement which lets you review what creatures you've discovered where, especially since I was still running into new monsters past scene 190, which was nice.Oh and btw, I like all the new weapons and the descriptions (especially the Tonfas and Wagasashi which remind me of Ruroni Kenshin), and the fact that they come with individual damage descriptions. Any plans to have weapon types actually have a baring on your character? or is this waiting for the classes update, EG giving some  some advantages with given weapon types.

Re: the blood rain, need a hand

Nice, that's pretty far!The 7.62 cal machine gun isn't much use against those guys except in an emergency.  They have low health but very high armor, so it is best to use grenades, mines, bombs or molotovs on them.Should take two grenades, two mines, 1 bomb or 1 molotov but the molotov needs time to work.  If the explosives don't kill them right away, don't bother trying to shoot them, it won't work so just hit them with another explosive.Thankfully they are slow so you can just jump over them and take a hit or two if you have nothing to fight them with at the time.

@4, there is nothing wrong with innovating and having audio games with gamepad/joystick support; after all, every video game out there has tha support nowadays. I could never get into quorum; it feels like a language designed to teach and not to be used in a practical setting.

What browser are you using? It seems fine on chrome. I really should see about finishing the game myself, though this one really does get extremely difficult in places and possible to almost entirely bugger up if your not careful.

Re: Bookrage's choiceofgames reviews

According to their Faq page you can't actually transfer from Ios to Choiceofgames.com without actually contacting them and showing receipts, and since I bought most of the games a good while ago on Ios I have no idea where to get those. On the plus side, their faq page did tell me how to transfer things from the separate aps to the big omnibus app, which I confess is part of the reason I've been neglecting their titles recently, so I was able to start that process. It'll take a while since I've downloded a good amount of the separate aps and indeed bought many of them back in the day, and they need to be transfered one at a time. On the plus side though, it does work and I've made a start on cleaning up my Ios folder. I will say I like the way that the  omnibus ap actually lets you click on the author of a given game and see other games by them, which is a function  I've wanted in choice of games for a while. I also replayed choice of the dragon just for old times sake. It was fun, and I agree with Bookrage's above comments. One issue though I did notice, is if going for brutality, it's often difficult to tell which  choices affect the brutality stat and which don't, or maybe I just got a bit carried away with eating princesses in that game .Still, oddly enough the game is so short, replaying and going for achievements is relatively easy, which is actually  a point in its favour, plus, well the humour did make me laugh again .

Re: Fellow Chrome users: Anyone else experiencing this?

I hope NVDA 2019.3 fixes or at least improves this.  People are saying that the beta is way faster in general, and I noticed NVDA having trouble with large MS Word documents, along with long lists of items in folders or settings windows.I'm guessing it's all related, so hopefully the solution will be as well.

Re: Universal Paperclips, an incremental browser game

Which browser are you using? If it's, say, Microsoft Edge you might have a really small browser window, which is not normally a thing we need to worry about, but I've seen this particular issue before. Try maximizing the window, with alt+space, and then X, and refreshing the page. It's also worth noting that the iOS version of the game at least is very accessible, though not perfect, as Dark's problem with the quantum computing lights illustrates.

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

I know it'd be a lot of work, too, but is there an in game device or outside source to see what moves each manamon learns? I mean, you could take a very high level manamon to see the memory tutor, but... is there an easier way?Also, I didn't play manamon 1 or subsequently complete its manapedia. So does this mean I'm just out of luck for Manamon2? I really wanted to try out uhh.. montieval, magic/electric, and a few others but can't get them in Manamon2.
