Re: an introduction to haelrahv mud, a mud that has a lot of potential

Okay I'm curious. how are people using ambush? Didn't realize it was a melee attack. but agents get an autotrain in marksmanship. Are tehre guns with bladed or stabbing attachments for that? Are people just training up melee attacks over guns? Sort of used up a reallocation on a character, but I'm wondering if knives use agility over strength. probably should of not gone with a race with penalties in strengthw. What spread of stats are agents using and skills?Edit:  Okay, might redo as a melee build. Didn't realize fired weapons used mentality as a primary for accuracy, and coordination secondary. I rather just focus on Strength/agility/coordination rather than spreading out from perception/mentality/agility/coordination with ranged attacks.I guess as a person who stays in range, maybe dumping agility for now to get mentality up for accuracy and not get dragged into melee would help until my aim/damage with guns are betterHowever, with poisons and stuff like backstab/asssassination being a thing, I'm wondering if  bladed combat is more preferred? However, now I'm a bit conflicted on my guardian. the two stats that one has a penality on is agility/coordination, the accuracy stats for unarmed attacks. That's going to be a pain to raise up. maybe I should just dump charisma for now. technically, with 7 costs for costs of strength and vitality, and 12 for agility/coordination, I'm somewhat averaging out to 9 per stat at least. Charisma can be retrainned in once more charisma abilities come in.

decent pair of headphones for a decent price

I'll cut straight and to the point. Here is what I am looking for.Over the ears, not on or in the ears.Wired, but wire can detach. The wire needs to have a good duribility in case of bending or twisting. Can adjust head size.Ears can not twist left or right, they disconnect way too easily when this is possible.Under 100 dollars. They don't have to sound the best. Decent base. EQ and bluetooth are not required. Why is it so hard to find a decent pair of headphones that don't have a shitty wire? Or maybe I just suck at shopping for them. Or both. Anyway, any suggestions or product links are welcome.

Re: Formatting images without sighted help?

The size and detail of the image and whats represented can really change based on how its scaled from its original default size, which can have less than desirable results. As a general rule you'd want to scale it evenly both horizontally and vertically to prevent shearing, and the quality can depend on how much you've scaled it up or down, which should be done by powers of 2 for fewer artifacts, but again that can heavily depend on whats in the image. If an image has small artifacts that are a key part of its content, then scaling the image down can blur or erase those elements, whereas scaling up can help make them more visible. On the other hand, scaling too much can contrast poorly with your given text.Embedded images in PDF's usually are 1/6th or so of a page and arranged in the upper/mid/lower parts of the left or right side of documents with text, although sometimes they can take up the upper or lower part of a page with text, or an entire page by themselves. As camlorn mentioned getting some sighted assistance wouldn't hurt, especially if your not fully familiar with the image content your working with. I'd consider making the pages as images themselves and pasting the text to it, but currently available accessible tools aren't well equipped for that, but you  could try using sonifiers, BrushTone, or similar tools to try and get a sense for the image content.

Re: Designing an Audio FPS

I decided to break this up into two posts as it was getting long.  SorryMost audio FPS's don't take enough advantage of vertical platforms, you can jump to go faster or avoid bullets which just gets spammed and feels really unrealistic, people can easily become overpowered if they are on the server before you and have collected lots of items or buffs and simply moving to another server isn't much of an option for such a small playerbase.aiming is very easy because weapons aren't effected by recoil for automatic weapons (accept in Rode to Rage where your aim will move back and forth randomly more depending on the weapon) and except for Swamp (which is more PVE anyway) using a scope doesn't shift your point of view or allow for smaller adjustments. The maps tend to be big an open without much to do, cover isn't really implemented properly because it's hard to tell at a distance that your bullet hit a barrier rather than simply missing and bullet impact sounds are often omitted because coders can't seem to make them not lag the server horribly espeically at a distance or with a high rate of fire.Speaking of high rate of fire Rode to Rage is the only game that was able to do it, no other has done so without causing horrible lag or slowing the firing rate down so much that it isn't really automatic any more.Griefers are a problem because of the small community size which is why I suggested awarding experienced (if implemented) based on the experience of the person you killed.  Most of our coders are also not very experienced so they make balancing mistakes and then add new features rather than fixing or truly testing their fixes, things like health caps, ammo caps, inventory limits ETC.Sometimes they don't even create a simple system where the further from the center of the hitbox you are, the less damage the other player makes.Using unnatural key combos, not supporting mouse or controller, and inconsistent degree and coordinate increments when turning or walking (turning left once will move you 3 degrees but turning right once will move you 2) make aiming and fitting in small spaces difficult.Basically I think allot of it comes down to immaturity and a lack of knowledge of practical mainstream FPS concepts.Anyway for cover I would just make it so that if you hide behind an object like a wall, you'll hear the muffled impacts from bullets on the other side and vice versa, but if you don't take enough steps in a certain period of time you should start making noises for the other player to hear if they get close to you, such as a quiet indicator on their HUD or a heartbeat/breathing sound. This assumes you aren't already going to create a directional or non directional proximity alert for closer ranges anyway, since in that case the issue would take care of it's self.Destructible cover could also be done, if you had the bullets make terrain damage sounds that got louder as the barrier got weaker until it finally broke (resetting the barriers could be done on a timer or only on map reload).Semi height cover could be done as well, just make it so that a player can only use it when crouched in the tile adjacent to a semi cover tile.  You could make this crouching action have a cooldown timer until it can be used again, and an automatic time limit before the player must stand up so that it isn't easily abused. Now I'm just brainstorming of course, I don't know how hard any of this would be to code with your engine limitations, skill level, current implementations ETC, but hopefully some form of these types of things can make it into a final product.  If not, I think that better balance, less lag, basic vertical aiming, better maps, and mouse support alone would still make your game a hit even if it's offline.

So that certainly is an option.I've written a number of scripting engines over the years. Mostly to add macro languages to both personal and professional applications I've built. My first preference when working with Java is to just use the built in _javascript_ one.Given the way it is structured in Java, you can actually support multiple scripting languages. I did that for one of my products at work. It allowed for backward compatability for existing macros when we moved from my scripting engine to _javascript_.

Most of our coders are also not very experienced so they make balancing mistakes and then add new features rather than fixing or truly testing their fixes, things like health caps, ammo caps, inventory limits ETC.Anyway for cover I would just make it so that if you hide behind an object like a wall, you'll hear the muffled impacts from bullets on the other side and vice versa, but if you don't take enough steps in a certain period of time you should start making noises for the other player to hear if they get close to you, such as a quiet indicator on their HUD or a heartbeat/breathing sound. Now I'm just brain storming of course, I don't know how hard any of this would be to code with your engine limitations, skill level, current implementations ETC, but hopefully some form of these types of things can make it into a final product.

Re: Designing an Audio FPS

Here are the three main methods I personally know of for vertical aiming.1. Pitch, lowering and raising the gun's angle changes a sounds pitch by increments and when lined up properly there is a small audio indicator.  To make things more fare, you could also indicate to the targeted player that they are being lined up in someone's sights.  Obviously the hitbox and maximum angle would be determined by the weapon type, just as normal range and hit radius would be. 2. Weapons have a small radius of effect (a 3D hitbox) extending only a handful of tiles on all three axis, with melee weapons having a smaller one.  Either A. This is a function of the standard hitbox for each weapon when firing at a ranged target and applies the same way when firing at a very close player (may not be large enough accept for things like shotguns because making the long range hit box too big would reduce the challenge) B. You enter a CQB mode for a preset extended close range radius as compared to your smaller normal hitbox (you could make this only apply to certain weapons to add variability) or C. The hitbox size decreases based on distance (may already be the case) so it should be widest at the player anyway (might be tricky to balance for player challenge).3. You can only aim up and down on 90 degree angles (this is what we do now...)Method 3 of course would be easiest and still better than nothing, but ideally you would combine both method 1 and 2 by using the first for long ranged weapons like hunting rifles, scoped assault rifles, and snipers and the second for things like shotguns, pistols, and knives. To indicate that a player is moving above or below you without using HRtF (and honestly even then I've so rarely heard this done properly) you may want to use a slightly higher or lower pitch on the footsteps.  It doesn't even need to be a sliding scale, just a noticeable change. The biggest issue with that would be people with hearing issues (a not insignificant subset of the blind community) rely on lower pitch to indicate that an object (or in this case a player) is behind them.So instead, maybe you could make the behind sound muffled in some way, or have a subtle thrumming/pinging noise for when they get close like how they do it in the GMA Games titles.

As for mechanical keyboards, I doubt I'll ever get one, at least in childhood cuz I don't have the space, and even when I get older I doubt I'll spend an extra 100 bucks on a keyboard, especially if the built in keyboard works fine. I'd rate book 1 higher than book 2, probably 4 or 5 out of 5 because of the novelty factor. Or maybe it was just that I read it when I was younger, I don't know. Book 2 just kind of plays out the thread in a way that seems more geared toward getting money out of the franchise than anything.

If you've never fired a gun in real life, research research research. If you don't know how they work, the in game mechanics will probably suck. I've seen this more times than I can count with in-community developed things.I'm guessing you're sighted? If so, check out Receiver by Overwolf Studios. Now, we don't need that level of detail, but they're definitely doing their gun handling very well.

Re: CrimeHunter version 2.0 for Mac and Windows is now available!

I remember having a little bit of fun with the actual story of this game a few years back. I got to (I think?) level 6, the one where you're asked to jump a bunch of pits, and if you fall, you get electrocuted. Only I think in that version you had to make a series of running jumps because you couldn't jump accurately while standing still or the gaps were too big. So I was repeatedly dying over and over again, to the extent that I just destroyed the game and didn't look back.Is this still an issue, or is the game more accurate now, or was I missing something hella obvious? If it's more navigable/I was missing something obvious, maybe I'll give this a try.

Re: Designing an Audio FPS

2020-12-01 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : Graeme via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Designing an Audio FPS

Regarding item hoarding or overpowered griefing, there won't be any chance of that in this game. Hit points will be capped as will maximum loadout weight and size limits. If I choose to allow different character types or classes, they will be balanced, e.g. a bigger, stronger character might have more HPs and carry more weight but would move slower and have poorer accuracy.Unlocked items would be balanced and boost some areas while adding small penalties to other things - gives flexibility and allows for varied play styles.. If weapons, items and loadouts are balanced from the start, there's no chance for overpowered griefing or item hoarding, the playing field is fair allowing everyone to eventually get access to top level gear. No need to strip items from players - nothing worse than working hard for something only to have it removed. Unless you get bored and want to start again, but that should be your choice.

Re: Ridiculously High RAM Usage With NO Apparent Cause

@25Yes, but should is the operative word.Invisible performance problems that you can't track down?  Irregardless of whether Defender is in the way or not, and I'm not going to buy that it's not in the way without some sort of proof, you're talking about a rootkit that gets its fingers into every corner of your system and implicitly does stuff literally every time a program opens a file.  It's not necessarily going to fix it but it's a very good thing to try.

Hi all,Well, it seems Chronicle, the voiced story type mode in SC6 is being expanded as new dlc is released. However, the latest patch notes say that there's extra story chapters for Mitsirugi and Nightmare. How on Earth will I be able to find these, if they are for existing characters, and also how to find new episodes as they're released? The last one I completed was Tira's, and I know there's been more as you add characters. So my plan will be to get everything soon.

Dragon Ball FighterZ Menu Guide

2020-12-01 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Articles Room : Gamulation via Audiogames-reflector

Dragon Ball FighterZ Menu Guide

Dragon Ball FighterZ Menu guide.I will be refering to the buttons as this:X/A: confirmCircle/B: backOptions/start: Start. The rest will be Playstation style.Note, I don't know the keyboard controls yet, but every controler should work with this. This first part of the guide is refering to the PC version's startup. After that the rest is the same across all plattforms. This is not a complete guide, not all menu items are in here yet.Starting the gameWhen you start the game you will here EAC launcher error window a few times, this is normal and they go away very quickly. After that there are some logoes on the screen, this is not a window itself, but will appear over your main window. A little after that you should have a Dragon Ball FighterZ window, go into that, and a few seconds later you should have music playing.Main MenuThe main menu is usually just spamming the confirm button. There are a few options, but I don't know what they are, you don't need to mess with them. After pressing your confirm button a few times you will here a different sound then the first ones, this is the game loading you into the main lobby. The settings menuSo you just got into the main game and want to start playing, well not yet friend. The game has a few audio settings you would want to check out first. The game comes with the japanese dub, but thankfully you can change it to the english dub we all know and love.Open your player menu by pressing start. Then go up two times and press confirm. Then hold your up button until you can't go up anymore, don't press the button it's important that you hold it, otherwise it won't work and you will be stuck in a loop. From here press down 4 times and then confirm. Now you are in the audio menu. If you move left or right you can change the music volume, one down and the sound efects volume can be changed. If you go three down from the music slider and then press right one time you will change the dyalog to english.Press the back button until it doesn't do anything to exit, it saves automaticly. The lobbyThe lobby is your main game room. Here you go to all your different modes you wanna play. The lobby is a big map that consists of manny places to walk to. The lobby is on a tyle baces, so you move one square eatch time you move. You can use your D Pad to move around, but why would you do that when you can teleport directly to the mode you wanna play?Press L2 to open the quick menu. The first option is online play, use this to battle random opponents.go one down and you will find the storry mode. The storry mode is not a storry for DBZ, but is an original storry. It's not accessible so I suggest you to leave it alone. Two down from here we have the training area. Here you can practice and get used to the game, I spend a lot of time here getting down the combos. One down from here and the arcade area is the next mode. This is a mode that allows you to test your skills in battle after battle. There is manny difficulty settings in the mode itself. You will fight a number of battle right after the other.the next one is versus play. Here you can play against the CPU or a friend. That's everything so far. I will update the guide as time goes on.If you found this helpfull please hit that thumbs up button

Oh and Blackhawk Down was pretty good as well.  Chaotic and confusing at times (and I mean that from a pacing point of view) though it must have been hard to tell such a dynamic story as a filmmaker. It's definitely one of those movies that doesn't seem to pull many punches when conveying the attitudes and realities of the people who experienced it.  It's not a heavily sanitized or idealized representation of events like some war movies are... Re: The greatest var movies

I thought Lone Survivor was pretty good...  I didn't need the patriotic undertones but that's just one of those things you gotta deal with with war movies, and it wasn't as bad as many others about it.The audio description was good too.I wish they had showed the enemy point of view more but I understand that was not the focus.  At times it felt kind of rushed, like the entire rest of the movie was just simply to frame the main battle and there wasn't allot of time to get to know the characters so their deaths had less impact. That said they did a great job at showing just how much both the training and the types of people who join special forces teams are able to do despite terrible odds, and they didn't skip out on gory parts to spare the audience either, which I think if I was one of their family members I would appreciate, as it doesn't allow the viewer to take the situation lightly. It also did a good job at showing that strange bond of rivalry VS camaraderie that happens with military units. And I appreciate that it showed the bravery of the villager who helped the main protagonist despite the threat of Taliban retribution as well, Americans need to start seeing Muslims and Middle Eastern people as something more than just enemies again.

Again, just want to echo others, thank you for this awesome work! Pokemon first and second gen are great as it is.I am a developer, but it's been a while since I dabbled in low level code or scripting. So forgive me for being kind of dumb when it comes to this, but could we theoretically find a rom's source code or even an emulator's source code and leverage Tolk library? Actually, not sure that will work since compilation takes place on non-x86 compiler.Or, another idea I have is to make an NVDA addon based on a game's dissassembled code. I don't want to get in trouble, because this conversation may potentially border on breaking forum rules. But essentially, source codes are out there we could leverage. But maybe I'm wrong.

I thought Lone Survivor was pretty good...  I didn't need the patriotic undertones but that's just one of those things you gotta deal with with war movies, and it wasn't as bad as many others about it.The audio description was good too.

Defender should be getting out of the way when a third party antivirus is installed.

@4 Thanks, some helpful information there. A few questions: How would you expect vertical aiming to be implemented? I can only pan sounds to left and right speakers, no idea how this would translate to vertical sound cues? What is it about the style of most audio FPSs that people dislike?Cover system - again, how do you envision this? What kind of mechanics etc.?If I do go with online play I would definitely need a lobby system and I wouldn't add a chat element precisely because it would impact server speed. I've posted this really to get feedback and to see what people want, all suggestions are welcome.

Without knowing what you did to cause the error than probably no one can help unless it's a well known issue and I don't think it is.

There is a way to get the 1core voices in Sapi5 format instead, is that what you want?

that's another thing that's been bugging me? is there any way to review known abilities and the like? can't seem to find the command to list them. Also, anyone have a good race for agents? I might actually go melee somewhat or the backstab and poison features once those are craftable

Re: what if I do this?

Look, school isn't everything. There are people who've dropped out, and who've made something of themselves. By that I don't necessarily mean in monetary terms, though that happened too or we probably wouldn't have heard of them. But those people educated themselves. Can you do that? Maybe, but honestly, you seem to jump around, from one thought to a totally different thought to yet another thought. But the thing is, again, none of this stuff is exclusive, like you seem to think it is. Suppose you focus on school now, and then go to college. I don't know how your college/university system works but here, at least in universities, we do a major, whatever we're studying, and then we get some other classes that are more general, and then you can take what we call electives, which pretty much means you get to take whatever you want.So OK, you want to write fantasy stories. Then I'd suggest majoring in something like literature. Here we call it English, I have no idea why because it's not about the language ,since we already speak it. But it is about studying the literature and writing and such, so I guess in some sense it is about the language. But what I mean is, if I told you I was taking Spanish, you'd probably correctly assume I was learning to speak the language, and that's not what English is for us, like I said it's literature and writing and stuff like that. Throw in some folklore and mythology if you like that kind of thing, though you might get it in literature or whatever you guys call it. Do some philosophy courses as electives, or do a minor in it if you have those. There's a path that gets these people telling you to focus on school what they want, but it also gets you what you want, a way to improve your writing and write stories, if that's what you want to do.But suppose I'm wrong, and it doesn't work? OK, great. Get through the two or four years of college, whatever you guys do, and go live in a cabin in the woods afterwards. Now you have a whole bunch of rules and stuff to be angry about and break in your writing. Or decide it's not for you in a year and a half and drop out, and go live in a cabin in the woods. I'm not suggesting that you actually do that, just in case you were wondering. I'm just saying, focusing on school right now and focusing on it more to get some college doesn't actually stop you from running off into the wild. It just delays it, and gives you a chance to find out if you'll get something out of college. On the other hand, if you don't do that and just run off, and decide college might be for you after all, it can be a lot harder to get in, at least over here in the US.Anyway, my point isn't about college as such, even though I think that's something you should probably at least try, if you can. My point is that I don't think anybody's chaining you down and stopping you from doing anything. Sure, I get that people would really strenuously object if you suddenly took off. And I think that would be an incredibly bad idea. But you could do it. And focusing on school doesn't change that, other than doing it later, instead of right now. Also, if you want to be all philosophical and like Epictetus, you're not doing a very good job. Stoics were all about facing whatever comes with equanimity, not going on and on about how they were in chains of expectation.http://classics.mit.edu/Epictetus/epicench.htmlI mean, I'm not saying I agree with this, as such. But you can read it for yourself, it's pretty short. Are playing the character of a student now? Then shouldn't you play it to the best of your ability? That's certainly what I read Epictetus to be saying.

ok, something happened with mat in that world beyond the twisted red dor mirror tarangrial.  I know that there is a war between  the foxes and the snakes for whatever reason.  But I am curious why couldn't people bring iron tools or music instruments with them, and also what was the agreement?  and why was it made?  I wander if the once with the horn can be connected to this world or even better if this pocket  universe is somehow out of the patteern of the wheel?  it may as well be beyond even talairan riod.  May be those snakes and foxes are just enhabitents of the world of dreams, or who knows?  The possibilities are  endless.  I like it .   Blood and flaming forsaken souls!  It may  even be that they made the travel stones.  It's crazy , I know.  I really want to find out why would such beings make pacts with man?

Re: who all read ready player two?

Around 3 out of 5 sounds about right. To me, some of the ruff edges in the first book are not quite as ruff in this one. I would say that as long as you do not expect it to be on the same level as Peter F. Hamilton in the writing department and don't mind it making up for some of this via all the refferences along with the storry line mainly being about game play, then it would be a ok read. Of course, the interface describe in this book seems like it came from other SF books and or movies. Maybe a 3 or a 3.5 out of 5. skail of five. it is a  few points better then the first book, but it is not a four out of five. intertaining, but there are other books better.
