@55, I do think that OpenGL/Vulkan is the future when it comes to GUIs. We just need to figure out how to get screen readers to work with those interfaces and to not make the experience feel all hacky/thrown together.

Re: Make wx.lib.agw.floatspin.FloatSpin accessible

One thing I've found utterly baffling is this: when I open (say) an installer dialog NVDA is able to read the dialog perfectly. But when I create a custom dialog I get no such luck. Furthermore, I think that some apps that I've used have edit fields but no accessibility attributes are set -- NVDA automatically is able to figure out the label for them. So I'm just curious... Is that some kind of coordinate thing? Like how does that even work?

I tried it with the main stream version of UNO, and it didn't work, at least, not for playing the actual game.It reads names of the NPCs, but that's about it.Oh and once you turn on direct touch, forget about it even working at all. Then again, direct touch treats it like VO isn't even running so that's probably to be expected.

What model of Oppo phone do you have? This skin sounds like a right royal pain in the ass. There's no way to download the stock Google Phone app or the phone ap from aosp to replace your default dialer unless you're rooted. I'm going to see if there is a Lineage OS build for your Oppo based on what model you have, because then you'll get a version of Android that is based around pure AOSP (vanilla Android) without any custom skins.Speech rate can be changed by enabling the talkback selector in talkback settings, and assigning gestures for it in manage gestures.

They could easily mute the TV or whatever they're using and just look at it, you can't do that when you're blind, so all I'm saying is that I wish they had a little more respect.I'm me, I've got audio playing on my laptop because I can't use it otherwise, and I don't have it blaring to the point where it drowns all other noise out, so I don't see what the problem is, I'm sure the same applies to others as well...@6 You make a fair point, however it doesn't matter whether I'm playing an audio game or a mainstream game, I just don't really want to wear headphones; simple as that.I don't want to look like an anti-social recluse in my room all the time, hence why I like to game and talk with people around me.I just want people to respect that rather than making a fuss because of a little more background noise than they're used to.From my own experiences people tend to put there TV up to louder volumes in smaller areas then I have my laptop at while I'm gaming, and yet I can hear the tv in the other room, through a  hallway, and in my room. I've gotten used to it though.

Simularly, for the comma here on samsung, its to the right of the m key on my tablet, and I believe on my a30 its to the left of the space bar.

2MB Game engine in the works -- any beta testers?

Hi all,As I talked about in our newsletter released today, we're in the process of developing a new game engine. It's cross platform on mac linux and windows, and will be scripted in lua. It will be similar to bgt in the way it operates, with some differences that I can tell more about if they'd like. Anyway, if anyone wants to help beta test it -- we've got an alpha worthy start on it now, then please let me know. You can contact me through our contact page at https://2mb.games/contact-us/.Thanks!-Michael, 2MB.

2MB News, reposted from the newsletter

Just reposting this in case people who aren't on the newsletter want to hear it. You can sign up here if you'd like.Hi there and happy holidays! It's Michael and Billy from 2MB Solutions. We know it's been a while, but we'd like to let you know about exciting new developments on the 2MB front, and start a newsletter. That's right, as of now we're starting a newsletter! This is issue one! Aren't you excited? :-). By the way, we're not spamming you right now. You signed up for this newsletter when you bought a product, most likely mine racer or horseshoes, from us. But if you really don't want to receive the awesomeness that is our newsletters to come, there's an unsubscribe button at the bottom. Just please don't click it, we'll be oh so sad if you go :-(.Anyway, without further adoo, off to the news!First off, we'd like to appologize to anyone who up until now was unable to download their purchased products. We had a server crash several months ago, and along with the crash, all of our binary releases of 2MB products were lost. As well as losing the binary releases, we haven't had a windows machine to develop on for quite a while, so we had to  redo our tools to compile windows games on linux. After a while developing and renting a mac server for mac development purposes, we finally have the games back in business. All that to say that you should now be able to download all of the products you own. In fact, we even released horseshoes for linux and mac as well, so now you can download that too! Again, we appologize to anyone who couldn't access the products, but now you can! :-). For those who haven't purchased or tried horseshoes or mine racer, links will be at the bottom of this email.Secondly, Billy has released audiogame manager for linux, which allows you to install many audiogames on linux under wine with no fuss or manual configuration required. All you have to do is choose it from a list and click install. Could it be more simple? Anyway, even if you think it could be more simple you should go check it out if you use linux, we promise you'll be pleasantly amazed. He also releases new games about every week and takes requests for new games into consideration. To find audiogame manager go to https://stormgames.wolfe.casa.Next, We'd like to tell you that in the up and coming months, we'll be launching a 2MB Patron service, which will allow gamers to subscribe to a monthly contribution plan for 2MB, and gain exclusive benefits in return. The details are still being hashed out but could range from behind the scenes access to us, trailers and access to demos before the general public, patron exclusive games not available anywhere else, and much, much more. Stay tuned, and please don't subscribe to anything until the site has fully gone live. I know the games now have a link to it in the main menu, but that was added before I expected to have to recompile the games so soon. DOH!And lastly, we're working on a cross platform game engine similar to bgt. It is written in c++, will work on mac windows and linux, and will use lua as its scripting engine. If you're interested in beta testing for this engine before it officially enters public beta, please email us: michael@2mb.solutions. Please only developers of audiogames send in a request, there really won't be anything for general users to test as of yet.To your fun playing audiogames, and a happy holiday.-Michael and Billy, 2MB Solutions.P.S. Again, this is not spam. You signed up for this newsletter at the time of purchasing a product from us. However, if you don't want to receive our ever so delightful email newsletters anymore, there's always an unsubscribe button at the bottom of every email. We'll only be a little sad if you click it :-(.P.P.S. Links to our audiogames:Mine Racer: https://2mb.games/product/mine-racer/ (full version) and https://2mb.games/product/mine-racer-demo/ (demo).Horseshoes: https://2mb.games/product/horseshoes/ (free).Just ignore the stuff about unsubscribing, that obviously doesn't apply here .-Michael, 2MB.

If you're just in it for the beer money and can't think of at least a few reasons beyond that, then maybe this is not for you. Re: Paid video lessons. How to make?

@Lucas1853: Or they've landed a deal with a provider already. No one usually makes an easy five figures on a video in a month, let alone a crappy one.You also must realize that if you want to even come close to making substantial passive income on one of these, you are going to have to invest in good equipment. You, like, need to, um, uh, realize, yeah need to realize, that an IPhone video that hasn't been properly, like, edited or something, isn't going to cut it. Now now. I'm not implying that your video material is up to no good, so please don't get that impression. What I am doing is de-hyping you because you seem to think that this from teh ground up operation is going to get you reeling in the dough. It won't initially, because the initial income you get will go towards the return on your investment, whether that be gear, studio time, you name it. You do really need to make sure you have a pro quality standard attached, though. There is a very good reason that corporate narration/e-learning is such a high-paying gig in the voiceover space alone, it's that companies who take quality into consideration will pay for good talent, and customers/clients will in turn gravitate towards said content. On the other hand some rando without brand recognition, a list of performance reviews/recommendations, and a portfolio isn't going to suddenly start reeling in residual income.Long story short. Learn the craft first, then invest in websites/infrastructure/elearning platform plans. Lather rinse repeat.

Re: planning on making an offline battle game like super smash bros brawl

@24, may I remind yoou the cluster fuck that later became? Sure, it left Tunmi and Mohamed better equipt later on, but you can't say their reputations, both of them, were left untouched at the end of it, and jeez. The game vulcan, the game. The thing had so many problems, I'm not sure how you can conscienciously say yeah. Bloodstorm turned out all right in the end. As for lightning, don't fall into the same trap i did. Believe it or not I came with a simular topic several months ago, and I had alot of stuff planned for it, and I even had some stuff coded for it, my drive died and I never regained the motivation. Point is, its never a good idea to come out on the forum and go yeah. I'm gonna code this huge massive project even though I've never released anything before, far less have much skill. I know that may come off as rude, but, I remember the other day you were on the rotu chat for like 3 hours asking for help with your scripts. Nothing's wrong with asking for help, but it doesn't inspire much confidence. So, after that blck of text that probably meant nothing to anyone, basically I'm saying be patient. Evaluate yourself personally, start smaller then go big. Remember, Sam and Mason didn't start off with their flagship projects like sbyw and stw. And again, back to the tunmi and mohamed point, the game was already, like 2 thirds ready by the time they came in. I know they did stuff oon it, but its not like they started from scratch.

Re: Anyone tried the new Voiceover UI recognition feature?

I certainly don't know what this topic turned into, but @41 that's pretty much where I've seen the recognition feature shine the most. For smaller accessibility hangups like unlabeled, or even unrecognized, buttons it seems to really help. I haven't really pllayed around with completely inaccessible apps yet, but would love to hear from anyone who has. The image descriptions are pretty nice though. They've gotten quite a bit more detailed than they used to be, and I've actually found them to be slightly useful. As far as companies and collecting data goes, there's no way of avoiding it today. Whoever you decide to run to will be collecting data period. (regardless of what you opt out of) And sadly it looks like they'll be valuing more from it exponentially than you'll be valuing from the service they provide in return. Data is the new currency.

Re: Framework, my new set of tools for audiogame creation in python3

A question about the sound manager class. For ID's, might it not be easier to just create ID's that increment by one each time one needs to be created? That way you could avoid the worst case scenario of having to try 500 different ID's. (and possibly still not having a unique one) I'm waiting for the Synthizer update before trying my hand at it, but I have a better understanding of how synthizer objects relate after seeing this at least. I haven't looked at much beyond the sound code, but I didn't see synthizer.shutdown anywhere. Unless you already have it, I think it might be a good idea to have if you aren't using a context manager.

Hi guys,So I'm putting this here because people have recently shown interest in my framework. What many of you from here wouldn't know is that I started converting my sound management code over to Synthizer. Today, I'm releasing my framework here for you all to hack on and use and do whatever you want with.Note: This may be buggy, and it uses Lucia for it's keyboard handling code for now. It does not include code for creating and displaying windows, however that can all be done through Lucia.https://github.com/masonasons/framework

Re: Paid video lessons. How to make?

My point was just that if we are talking about video files and you want people to be able to watch it, it will be absolutely impossible to prevent piracy. Impossible. So you can trust that a fraction of your viewers will pay for the files, that is the best you can do. Try to set the file price not too high and make it convenient to buy so maybe people will think why not. If the files are expensive and it's a pain to checkout, people will look at torrents. Learn marketing, produce a lot of content, but then that means it's not really passive. IF you do courses, they will go stale anyway, technology evolves fast, other people will make videos that will get more popular or recent, so you will keep having to update your stuff. Also make sure you respect regulations on refunds and consumer protection. My biggest advice is make it so that people actually feel like they want to pay you. Make it a delightful experience. Don't just throw some files on a server behind a pay wall.

But don't worry about that, if you copy the previous code into hacks.lua, it should give you at least a basic support.

No, it does not. Most of it can be simplified to writing triggers, though. Figure out your text, figure out what’s changing, figure out what to do if it changes, and make sounds work with the change. That’s really all there is to a soundpack. The hardest part is writing flexible triggers.

Re: Anyone tried the new Voiceover UI recognition feature?

I should have predicted this would happen haha . I don't have an iPhone, I have an iPad, but I don't use it much. I am not a fan of Voiceover and the gestures or just didn't get used to it. I generally love Apple's designs though, it's fancy and slick. All my setup is pretty much Google and since their company model is based on selling data, must it be aggregated, I kind of accepted that I was using nice products that don't cost much in exchange. On that front I prefer Microsoft, they collect data, but their users are actually their revenue (sure there is a small portion of advertising, but it's really minimal), so they really care about privacy, because they must. When they use collected data, it's to improve the user's experience to make you want to pay them more or stay with them.Anyway, when I saw that article about Apple screen recognition, I was super hyped, but I figured it wasn't as good as they would say it. I can see that being useful in some apps that are partially accessible, like when there are a few unlabeled buttons and such. I was wondering if it would work on games that are totally inaccessible, where it's just 2D rendering and nothing is exposed to the screen-reader?Thanks everyone for the great info, even when it got derailed into a Android vs iOS debate, I learned a thing or two. Let's keep it civilized and while I agree that Apple clearly have done wrong things in the past, I believe in this case that they needed AI hardware acceleration. I will check the CSR out, looks neat.

Make wx.lib.agw.floatspin.FloatSpin accessible

Hi all,I'm trying to use wx.lib.agw.floatspin.FloatSpin, and it's not labelling properly.I'm putting wx.StaticText instances before the FloatSpin instances, and still nothing. I am adding them to a sizer and all that good stuff, so I don't think this is a case of the controls going walkabouts.Instead of a meaningful label, I just get "Edit", then the current value.I seem to remember there was a way to make this work before, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was, and Google isn't being massively helpful.I've tried using SetHelpString, SetLabelText, SetLabel and all that, I've tried making my own wx.Accessible subclass and overriding GetDescription and GetHelpText, all to no avail.Any hints welcome...I have no problem using w standard wx.TextCtrl if I have to, but I'd rather not reinvent the wheel.

Re: anyway to run c++ code with out a laggy editer like vs or CodeBlocks?

hahaha writing win32 code.  I don't care what it's in, using wx in C++ would be easier, even if you're talking to the app over a C API to get data so you could do it in Rust.  Even if I wanted to do it that's not cross platform, which I care about these days.In general I gave up on finding good C options for this a while ago: as you said libui is basically dead, or dead-seeming, and I believe still with the "this is beta" warning, and in general no one even tries for native GUI anymore.  But hey, lots of inaccessible OpenGL options, yay!

Jayde wrote:Oh, perfect crystal might work now. But Tyler's work by default. No messing with checksums. They just work, or they don't.See, what I think you've done here is to set up a system where one of the first thing you do is check against a list of acceptable games, and if something isn't supported, then the scripts won't run. Tyler doesn't do this, so you could theoretically try and run his scripts on anything at all, and if it's messy, that's the player's issue. Your scripts seem to be more player-friendly this way, in the sense that they can't plug in the wrong rom and get completely confused.I didn't add Perfect Crystal's Checksum to the allowed hack list or anything. Let me explain a bit.Pokémon Red, Blue and Japanese and USA Pokémon Yellow have an older header. This header consists on the game title (Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, Pokemon Yellow) and a lot of values that are not important for this. Additionally, the header also contains the checksum, different for each game. So as you can see, bassed on the header, for Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow you only can use the checksum because the game as no way of knowing which language is the game in. So yes, an identical copy of Pokémon Blue with a different checksum never would be admited by this script. However, a japanese copy of Pokémon Blue with the english checksum into the header would be loaded as a Pokémon Blue English Game (and this will cause trouble for the player, I ashure you). Now, looking at the european versions of Pokémon Yellow, or any version of Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal, they add to the game header a four character code. Three first characters (APS in Pokémon Yellow, BYT in Pokémon Crystal, etc...) make the game ID. Fourth character is the language code (E for english, S for Spanish, I for Italian...)So if the script finds into the game header the sequence APSS it will know that you are loading a Pokémon Yellow Spanish rom, and it doesn't mater if it's an hack or not.Looking at that, you can say that...-Any game with the game title of Pokémon Red, Blue or Yellow (this one only for English and Japanese languages) has to be allowed into the checksum list or into the hack list file. If it is not allowed, the script will terminate with te message "Language unsupported".-Any game with the game id of Pokémon Yellow (european variants) or of any Pokémon Gold, Silver or Crystal, asks the script to look at the language character in the rom header. If the language is a valid one and there is a translation available, it loads the corresponding script and language. If it is not, it gives the error "Language unsuported". After that, it looks for the rom checksum into the allowed hack list. If it finds a coincidence, loads the data specific for that hack. If it doesn't find coincidences into the allowed hack list file, it loads the base game scripts (uncaring if the target rom is an hack or not).-Any other game will terminate the script with the message "Game unsupported".So Pokémon Perfect Blue goes into the first category (it needs its checksum allowed into the hack list) but Perfect Crystal, if it's not allowed as an hack should load by default the base crystal script. And in fact, this is what it does, at least in my computer. And for those interested on Prism and Brown... they have a custom header with a different game ID.

Re: vip mud portable is that possible?

Probably not without someone to hack the shit out of it. I think it stores things in the registry, that would need to not happen, and instead, they'd need to be stored in configuration files which the portable copy would need to read from. You'd also need to have it redirect the documents/VIPMUD data folder somewhere relative to the root of the portable copy's directory tree. In short, not unless one of two things happens. First, someone could reverse engineer the thing, which is illegal. The other option is the developer would add such an option or a special build that it meant to run this way. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

@53, no, because tinyfiledialogs isn't a native rust GUI, its just an interface to display particular window types. It doesn't provide anything more than that. There's libui, of course, but from what I can tell development on libui has slowed, if not stopped altogether, and the libui bindings for Rust aren't up to date with the latest libui release anyway. You could, of course, use the winapi crate and manually write the win32 code, but I imagine that would become a mess rather quickly. (Ironically, Rust makes writing Win32 code rather simple, unlike the native C API... Which is just backwards like nothing else.)

I agree with Nidza07. Unauthorized forks do not arise because a product is open-source; they arise because people invite developers who should not be trusted onto their development team. In fact I'd say open-sourcing... Wait, I already mentioned that in this topic. Point being that if I make an open-source FPS and attach a license to it, and someone then creates a fork (yes, a fork, because the fork would not be unauthorized) and doesn't open-source that fork but the license requires them to do so, then they're violating the license and I can kick their ass for it. However... If they do make a fork of it and its open-source, that's, again' not an (unauthorized) fork. That's just a fork, and anyone is legally permitted to fork other open-source projects. No open-source license would ever prohibit that.

The list of messages and chats is perfectly accessible, which wasn't the case last year. Otherwise, the script is mostly for efficiency, adding quick and useful shortcuts.

Re: A born blindman's rant on gaming in front of sighted people

Hi,@Nocturnus, not sure if this would help with the issue you mentioned, but if you have an iPhone I believe there is a feature called ‘Live Listen’, which basically turns your iPhone into a mic so you can hear everything going on around you even with earphones in. I haven’t used it myself, so not sure if it would help, but I’ve heard of people hard of hearing who normally can’t hear the TV from back on the sofa, so they turn on live listen, place their phone near the TV, then pop in their Air pods and can then sit back on their Sofa and hear the TV  through their Air pods. I’m not sure if the feature only works with Apple Air pods and an iPhone, or whether you can use regular earphones too. Like I said I haven’t tried it myself, so no idea if it would work, but I thought I’d mention it in case you had an iPhone and could try it out, maybe if it works it might allow you to both listen to your phone via earbuds but also still hear what is going on around you at the same time too.Paul

Re: whatsapp web - script to improve accessibility

What would be even more amazing is if developers just made their web apps accessible in the first place so we didn't have to jump through hoops to be able to use them effectively. There is no goddamn excuse for this shit in 2020. None. I've tried to be nice about this for far too long. Now I'm done.

Re: Why do You like pure basic?

Some new developer won't be making an online FPS as their first project, or anything online for that matter.

The details are this. Most of the community treated them like shit and took everything they made for granted. We don’t treat people well enough around here honestly for the most part
