I actually asked these questions on the 13 Sentinels subreddit a while back. Here is what i was told…Team Organization Menu: This lists out each of the pilots and selecting one will play a voice line from them. When you enter this screen you will begin on the deploy button so be careful not to click that. Also if you click triangle and enter the pilot's customization menu, you have the option of clicking R1/L1 to advance to the next/previous pilot's customization menu. However, this will not play a voice line. I will now go over what you can navigate through on the skill menu.Pilot's Customization Menu: There are three tabs that can be accessed in the pilot's skill menu and you will be at the tab you left off of. This will typically be at the Arms Customization tab (the most important one if you want to equip skills). To navigate through different tabs you simply click left on the D-Pad (these tabs don't loop if you keep hitting left). The tabs from left to right are labeled, Pilot Information, Sentinel Upgrade, and Arms Customization. You might notice there are four sound queues as you navigate the tabs but that is because this final tab is the inner tab of the Arms Customization menu for your equipped skills.Pilot Information: On this tab this is where you can turn on your passive skills and there is no limit on how many you can have on surprisingly. So just turn them all on. You will know if it is on if you press it and hear a high pitch sound. Turning it off plays a lower pitch. Some of these skills work in really specific scenarios, so nothing really to get bogged over. I cannot for the life of me remember if there are equipped by default when you unlock them but you get them for each pilot every five of their levels.Sentinel Upgrade: This tab lets you spend your meta chips to directly increase your stats. I honestly didn't utilize this at all in my playthrough and if I remember correctly you might not have it unlocked at first. I can describe this some more if you want.Arms Customization: The final tab. Each of these tabs are navigated vertically just like the previous ones, and the farthest right tab is your equipped skills. If you hold the down button on the d-pad you won't keep looping through the skills, so that is a good way to know which skill you are on (however if you hit the down button again or in separate successions then you will loop through your skills. Clicking X on any of your skills will move you to the right tab to allow you to choose which open spot to put it in or which skill you want to replace it with. You can unequip a skill by pressing square in the equipped skill tab. If you unequip each of your skills (which surprisingly you can) then it would probably be quicker to know which skills you plan to use. If you have not unlocked a skill yet then pressing X would ask you to confirm if you would like to spend the meta-chips to unlock it (yes is on the left and no is on the right). Pressing Triangle on an unlocked skill will allow you to enhance it (this will also ask you to confirm it just like unlocking a skill).I hope this helps!!

vcaparica, I appreciate the detailed description of the game UI, as it's been a while since i looked at this myself, and I have never been the best at writing step-by-step stuff because I tend to assume people know things they might not. Dan_C, generally the game is smart enough to tap your lands for you. It won't let you play a card if you don't have the manna to do so. That being said you can always manually tap it yourself if you prefer, though I never found situations where that was useful.

I know that there are plenty of games for sighted folks, like Elite Dangerous, which have this kind of gameplay, but no one has found a good way to translate this into accessible exploration yet. The golden cursor file is not as necessary as the preferences file, because you can fairly easily re-create it and customize something which will work better anyway.The latest download is found from this link. This is a stable release and has my accessibility work, such as it is. The preferences file is downloadable from here. This should be copied into the Forge folder in the Windows appdata folder, or the mac equivalent.Finally, the Golden Cursor file is here on my Dropbox. I don't promise it will work for people who aren't running 1920x1080 screen resolutions, and I really recommend just creating one which will work for yourself.Hope this helps.

, Forge is actually usable on a mac, almost as much as Windows. It's a Java program, and you can pretty much use it on any platform. VOiceOver works fairly well with it, back when I was messing with it more regularly I did all my development on a mac.

45,This is the problem with the game in my experience. Some of the weapons you have access to are very short-ranged, but we have no obvious way to figure out where the kaiju are. They are obviously still on the map, but hunting them down becomes an exercise in tedium.I've experienced this many times and it's one of the reasons I don't care for destruction mode.

The Talking DosBox system actually uses DosBox, which is an emulator for DOS alone, and not bochs, as far as I'm aware. It's not quite as general as Qemu or other VMs.Unfortunately, I ran into trouble getting this to work under Mac OS, but I already have a working copy of the Linux games anyway, so it isn't a big deal. I suggest Windows folks try it for sure, however.

Hey,This looks really good. Going to grab it and see how well it behaves. I already have an actual Linux setup, of course, but it'll be good to have an alternative that would be easier to handle. It's also worth noting that for folks who don't have a numeric keypad, you can use capslock or the Windows key, plus the keys on the right side of the keyboard to navigate in a similar way, they are the default speakup laptop keybindings.Finally, it is probably worth setting up a .bat file or something so that you don't have to launch qemu with that long command string every time. It could just be called something like speakup.bat or whatever.

You can still edit it if you know the name, you just won't see it most of the time. If you do something like"ls -a", in the terminal, you'll see all files, including the many hidden ones which use this convention.IF you're primarily using Orca and the graphical file manager, I'm sure there's a "show hidden files," option in the menus somewhere. I'm just not sure where it would be, as I'm generally a console-only user. The file hasn't vanished, it just looks like it has.

HEy,I'm not sure if this is a bug with Cataclysm, TDSR, or both, but I've noticed some weirdness as I explore the game tonight. I thought the bug around the cursor location had been fixed, but it seems to jump around on occasion. It's not as bad as it used to be, but still kind of confusing.I'm trying to figure out whether this is a screen reader issue or a Cataclysm one. The TDSR codebooks to be correct, from what I can tell, which is why it's a bit confusing.All in all, I wish I could just get Speakup working for everyone.

This will be run when ever you log in.export NCURSES_NO_UTF8_ACS=1This basically makes Cataclysm, and other programs, use simpler characters to draw parts of themselves, instead of trying to use fancier things which don't really work well with tdsr.If you put that line into the .bash_profile file, and then log in, you should be able to run it with fewer issues.Also note, you probably won't be able to get sounds working with the text-based UI, I think that requires graphical tiles, unfortunately.

HEre's a thought… Maybe you could package up your vM and post it somewhere, even if just in DropBox or whatever, to make things a little easier for folks who might be interest in future?As for your question, generally the overview map "m" is helpful in terms of figuring out where things are in the world. Each square on that map is something like 24x24 tiles of the one you move on, as far as I know. You'll want to press "B," to stop that map from blinking, as otherwise it can be kind of confusing.Hunger and thirst are generally announced via status messages, as far as I remember. You might want to set things up in game settings so that only the current turn's messages are retained, just because it can be a bit confusing otherwise.Good luck, and I'm glad to see other people enjoying the game.

If anything it's far less so, because you can't even use the parts of the UI which are basically web pages. it's a mess.To your second question, I don't know. I think most games list their requirements on the store page, and many of them do have mac versions, but getting to play them is a pita.

NO, I believe what they mean is that you can move in any direction at any time. THere's still turning, it's just in a complete circle. 360/8 is 45, so you're making 45-degree turns when you turn north, northeast, etc. It's worth noting that that simplified compass we use is not how most mainstream games handle movement, at least not in 3D. You can go in any direction at any angle.

Hey,A few things here.First, it used to be that Speakup was the only screen reader that would work with this game, or so I thought. The reasons for this are kind of complicated to explain, but basically…Speakup is able to track the cursor position in a way NVDA and Orca, for instance, do not. When you use Speakup to review the screen, you can move up and down on the screen while staying in the same column of the display. This is the only real reason why Speakup is so suited to rogue like games, including Cataclysm. It's much easier to get a sense of what's around you if you're able to look at the screen one symbol at a time, and not have to constantly count columns.This is basically the same way that, for instance, tables are handled on web pages. It is very confusing to read tabular data by reading across the whole thing every time, but that is basically what NVDA's current review implementation does, and the reason roguelike games aren't fun to play with it.That all being said, Speakup is harder to get going if you don't have a working knowledge of Linux. I can recommend another screen reader called TDSR, which is simpler but features the same kind of column review abilities.You can find TDSR on this GitHub repository. It doesn't work on Windows, but Cataclysm isn't really playable on Windows anyway, not in its current implementation. It is possible to play it using the Windows Subsystem for Linux, but not with NVDA, because its column tracking is poor, as I've explained. Jaws should work, however.

Okay.I'm becoming increasingly irritated by the tone of some of the messages in this thread, so here is a list of practical suggestions to make the game more accessible.1. Indication of what block is being looked at, which already exists.2. A method to determine what's in front of you, so you don't walk off into air. This might already exist too, I believe I saw something like it at some point.3. Access to the in-game crafting reference and a way to tell where things need to be placed for that.4. An indication of what's under the cursor for selection purposes.5. Some more keyboard commands.6. Support for identifying creatures and where they're coming from. Pretty much everything except the last would make the game decently playable in creative mode. It's not 100% accessible, but it's more than enough to have fun.

Minecraft is fundamentally different because its code, ultimately written by human beings, and easier to explain than things like physics which produce intangible waves of different lengths.The end result behind code is behavior, which has to be explainable, otherwise you wouldn't be able to understand what you want the code to do.So I take issue with the idea that we can't understand what the problems with Minecraft accessibility might be. IF you aren't running a Mac or some version of Linux, the start.sh script won't be very helpful for you. If you are, you can just run it in a terminal window, in theory.I hope the author has translated the scripts to Python3, because if they haven't, mac support is going to be more annoying going forward, at least.

I genuinely don't understand why this thread is so negative. There is a lot of potential to make Minecraft more playable, it's got a robust modding API, there's support for getting game information six ways from Sunday and people are trying to make it work. The constant cries of "It'll never work," don't help anything.

@9:If we take Adom as an example of the genre, encounters work by putting you in a map based on the terrain type–mountains/hills, forests, etc.  It's the same map that you'd get by using the ">," command to go into a given wilderness square as far as I'm aware.Other encounters would be handled in the dungeon map which you access from a typical entrance square, like the Caverns of Chaos, etc.

The ASCII interpretation problem remains an issue, as camlorn said. I'm personally willing to put up with it but I realize many aren't.That being said, Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is pretty much a giant open world, complete with cities, rivers and so forth. ADOM, Ancient Domains of Mystery, is a smaller though sizable world, though it might better fit the definition of "over world," because you do kind of move between maps in a way which you don't usually in Cataclysm.Some Angband variants have an overworld, though I don't know of any which are both accessible and maintained.

Well,I've started trying to explore Dragon Quest, and it's a little hard to get used to. I'm still not sure the best way to navigate. I wonder if I'm better off following a walkthrough or something, at least initially, or if I can find one of sufficient detail. 2D mode is nice, I get obstacle bump noises, but it's still kind of disorienting.IF anyone has tips for how to navigate in this kind of environment i'd appreciate them. I'm getting very good at killing slimes and needlers at least.

ogomez92,13 Sentinels is definitely accessible. There are some parts which could be a little easier to handle, but it's a great story and I'm currently about 1/3 of the way through it. It's a playstation exclusive, you need to grab it from the Sony PS store.

Hi All,I'm mid-way through 13 Sentinels, probably about a quarter of the game, in theory. I am realizing that I've really enjoyed this experience so far, but don't know of any other games which are similarly accessible. Has anyone had experience with other console RPGs that are perhaps similarly playable?I realize that Playstation games are less likely to be so, because they are often 3D, but I wonder about some of the older games, like Super Nintendo Final Fantasy, for instance. All of those use 2D movement as far as I'm aware.I remember reading somewhere that there was a machine learning project to do something with the original Final Fantasy, but I can't seem to find it now. I also wonder about Retroarch and what kinds of games might be playable on that system.Any thoughts are very much appreciated. I'm hoping I can find more games to enjoy.

Hi ALl,I'm wondering if anyone who uses PS4 remote play can chime in here. I've been trying to get it to work with my PS4 controller via Bluetooth, and it consistently fails. Remote play doesn't appear to see the controller connected at all. This makes playing games which require OCR harder because I can't easily control them.Has anyone managed to get this to work with bluetooth, or does everyone use a wired connection? I'd love any advice.

Milos,What I meant by that comment was that you don't need to click on individual planets and moons very often, as you can manage all of that from either the outliner or the main star's context menu. You can still interact with the system map to send ships to places by following hyperlanes manually, which is still useful to get a feel for the layout of the larger galaxy.

Milos,A few things here.EU2 is so old that I don't think it will work well with OCR. I've certainly never had much luck with it. EU4 is the only version of the EU franchise which works reasonably well, with patience.Stellaris is complicated because of a couple of issues.First of all, the galaxy map by default doesn't name star systems outside of your starbase range. In order to remedy this and a number of other problems, someone on Reddit was kind enough to produce a small OCR mod a year or so back. I'm not sure if it will work properly with the current version of the game, but you can find that on Steam here. You need to enable that for the galaxy map, and the system maps, to be a little easier to use.The description of the mod has step-by-step directions on how the system  map works .Another important point about all of these games is that they often use icons instead of text. A lot of things are not going to be picked up by OCR unless you bookmark them, because they are just an icon. Until you add a bookmark for the proper spot, you will probably not be able to find them reliably. I have a bookmark file for 1920x1080 screen resolution,  but it hasn't been updated for a while.The basic game flow is this. You find a thing you want to do, find the bookmark for that menu or use a keyboard shortcut, use OCR to read the tooltip you need to read, click on what you need to click on, etc. It's complicated because the game doesn't display a lot of commands in text, but they do show up in tooltips once you hover over them.Hope this helps. Like I said, it's complicated.

Okay, I think I understand the problem you're having.If you purchased Stellaris as you mentioned in another thread, you need to set it to Borderless mode, not full-screen. NVDA OCR doesn't seem to like full screen mode for some reason.You can do that in the game launcher.

Milos,I used NVDA OCR, though I know the add-on works with it as well. I just never could be bothered trying to set it up.Hearts of Iron IV is probably not going to work as well, because it has parts of the UI which require you to drag and drop on the map, and draw things like battle plans for your armies. I never had much luck with it, but it's admittedly the one I tried to work with least.My order of experience for these games is Stellaris, EU4/CK3, and HOI4/Vic2/all the other Paradox games.I've been trying to get them to look into screen reader accessibility for years. Given how many tooltips the games use, it's definitely possible.At one point, I had a contact with one of the developers behind EU4, who was going to look into integrating proper screen reader support, but we lost touch and it never really went anywhere.

13 Sentinels: Stuck in the Prologue

Hi ALl,I hate to ask this so early in the game but I appear to be stuck in the prologue, specifically in Natsuno Minami's story.SPOILE RI've just met BJ, and been transported to 2065, where I'm witnessing something, presumably a Kaiju. THe last thing Natsuno said was that she knew what the thing was.I'm not sure where I'm going from here. This area is particularly disorienting because of the loud background noises. I can't seem to find the last interaction prompt to finish the prologue. The most I've found are a few places where BJ beeps at me, but I can't seem to do anything with them. I've looked at all the thoughts on my thought cloud, none of which seem to apply in this situation.Help would be appreciated. I know this isn't the kind of game where I won't get stuck without any hope of winning, but I'm feeling a little frustrated. I've tried turning down the music to see if that helps me focus but it doesn't seem to.Thanks all.

One thing I'm a little confused about is the square button, which hasn't been addressed in the guide yet, as far as I can tell. Am I going to need to use it for the prologue or is it optional?I hope I can get PS4 remote play working so I can use OCR, as it seems like it will help quite a bit.Any advice folks have would be very much appreciated. I'm excited but don't really know what to expect yet.

The best I can do is use VOCR from outside the Steam window, like on the desktop. It sort of works, but isn't great. You can also use Steam API urls to do things like install games and such. It isn't ideal.

It's also available for PS4, I believe, though I haven't tried it to confirm accessibility. I remember I used to like the version for PS2 but that had a simpler answer entry system.

I'm not really bothered by the kind of story TLOU2 chose to tell, even if it's not pleasant. I can empathize with the desire for revenge.I'm curious about Hades, is it playable on other platforms or just PC?
