With prepaid, you just grab a prepaid card and never have to worry about it again. No credit checks (which means I don't need to unfreeze my credit for them to pull it) and all that nonsense just to have a cell number.The impact bills have on your credit report is insignificant at best and if you've got an active credit file (meaning several cards and/or loans,) no point worrying about one bill not popping up on your report.Plus with prepaid you can dump the number any time you want. Postpaid seems like a lose lose situation to me now I think about it. The contracts that lock you in, the overpriced unlimited plans, if you don't use much data and don't need unlimited. But the home internet I linked sounds really cool though. I signed up as soon as I discovered I could get it, and can't wait to ditch my capped, slow and worthless overpriced DSL.For building credit, a secured card, and having several credit cards you use each month appears to work alot better. I actually have a blog post written about this because with post-paid plans, you are actually getting an extension of credit that they will take your word for it that you will pay them back as agreed upon. So, the more creditworthy you are, the more likely you are to get better offers. While they don't report to all three credit bureaus, they do check your credit when you initially set up an account with them, both for the credit check, and also for identity verification. This is what the IRS uses when you need to do business with them. In addition to Verizon, TMobile has launched unlimited LTE home internet, specificly it seems in areas where AT has service with its slower Uverse service. They garantee at least 25 mb down, and say most people get 50 mbps and up download speeds. People online are reporting more than 100 mb of speed in areas, and more than 40 mbps of upload speeds. I seriously hope that with 5g fixed wireless options become more common so people can be rid of ADSL, or shit dsl as I call it. That is seriiously the worst kind of internet any can ever have minus maybe satallite. But whaat I was suggesting was just turning off wi fi, and not using my phone to connect to my dsl router, and instead have my phone do everything over celular. That won't work, as Icloud backups etc, don't go over celular. I was surprised how good cell data is when I lost Internet for a few days and still had to conduct meetings and such. But I assumed that all but the starter plan offered by the large carriers have unthrottled data, and have no overage charges. But I don't do video calls constantly on my phone. As for watching youtube and such, I always prefer my laptop for serious entertainment, and do all my data hungry activities there. But seriously the prices charged for DSL are exactly the same as the prices this provider charges for its 1 gig semetrical FTTH users, its like a robbery to pay 60 a month for an 18 meg 1 up connection that has a data cap to top it off. Whatsapp surprisingly doesn't use that much data, video conferencing uses more though on it. My understanding was that though the major postpaid plans, like the biggest 3 carriers all had unlimited plans, with all but the entry level one garanteeing a certain amount. My internet isn't actually uncapped. It has a 1tb quota. But the issue here is that DSL is really not like having internet at all. The upload speed is only 1 megabit, not suitable for work, or video conferencing for that matter. If something uses the upload bandwidth at all, it saturates the whole connection and makes it unusable. DSL also has like a 40% overhead, so the 18 advertised is actually between 12-16 mbps. I don't have any other wired options in my area iether. It boils down to whether or not you use enough that the postpaid plans are a good deal or not. This is incredibly country specific though, for example in the U.S. switching to it for your internet isn't really super feasible because they love to tack on the fees and throttle your connection to hell and back.Not sure that asking us is going to help much. Probably better to just compare the plans yourself. However, if you haven't tracked your data usage, that 2GB goes really really fast. A video call or a video from Netflix or something and it's basically gone. Your internet might be slow, but not having caps is very valuable. Hi,Well I think the first advantage postpaid has is that you don't have to worry about topping up your balance every now and then, since you can make calls and use internet and pay the bill later.The second is that usually you get better packages with postpaid than with prepaid.Also, you pay less when it comes to the amount you pay per minute in calls in postpaid compared to prepaid. Although I think you should just get a package that provides you with data, on net calls and off net calls. That depends on how much you use them though.That's how my carrier works. prepaid vs postpaid cell phone plans? Hello All,I have been sticking with TMobile's metro, since I have an Iphone 6, which basicly isn't supported officially on most of the networks. But with the new Iphone 12 line coming up, I am going to replace this, since it is too slow to run modern apps or do much of anything. Even video calls cause the phone to overheat and drain the battery quickly. I am considering switching to one of the major carrier's postpaid networks when I get a new phone. My question is, aare there advantages to doing this? Specificly advantages of the big carriers regular plans? So my data usage is the following: I have been totally at home these last 6 months or so, but I am cursed with an ADSL connection, that provides only 1 mbps of upload speed, though actually the real speed I receive is lower. This is barely adequate for audio calls, often audio calls on Whatsapp get disconnected or have cutout issues, and video calls are a near impossibility. So for those times when I want to video call, and sometimes during audio calls I switch exclusively to celular. For most everything else, I use my dsl. Though actually I had to disable chat backup features because I realized my phone was trying to back up chats to the cloud. If I get a higher data plan than my current 2gb plan, one possibility would be to switch off wi fi perminently, and only use the celular network, which is light years faster than DSL. Additionally, all of the major carriers offer employee discounts that I am eligible to take full advantage of, which is the tune of 10--15 dollars off a month if I recall correctly.
