Re: Accessible coding boot camps for the blind

Hi all! I'm using Programming Hub in my Android Phone and it works very well; it's accessible and you can test your coding knoledge just fine. Try it! I'm not a programmer but like testing this kind of apps; right now I'm following the Python 3 course in this app. It's also accessible via Pc, i think!

@15If you go out of your way to set up for it you can talk about forking zombie children.  Forking zombie children are not usually words you put together--especially not nowadays, when fork bombs and zombie children are both solved problems--but yeah. Can also talk about forking orphans along the same lines.  This is all kind of stilted but it's not actually gibberish.

Re: Accessible coding boot camps for the blind

More and more bootcamps start offering an online option, where you essentially pay slightly less and work through the material of the bootcamp. Please note, slightly less. Think 5k instead of 6k But those offer mentor sessions, access to instructors/other students et cetera. The firehose project comes to mind mostly because almost all of it is text-based. So does Viking School, which is essentially the paid version of the Odin Project.I've found that video-based curricula are quite a bit more difficult. Videos can often be made accessible just fine ...they just usually aren't. And if that's a Udemy course worth 50 bucks I can't really care all that much. If it's thousands of dollars I am supposed to invest ...yeah no thanks. As for hackathons and pair programming ...there are ways of doing it. Usually one of the two will do documentation diving or googling and the other will drive, writing code as the other person calls out useful methods to use and such. Another way is to rubber-duck debug while you're coding, which can work well when the algorithm you're going to use isn't quite set in stone yet. I know, better to iron that out first, but that's not always how things go

Re: Accessible coding boot camps for the blind

@12I haven't attended one, but being as they're usually you go somewhere and team up with whoever to do something cool on a time limit with no further structure, it should be fine as long as you have a team that'll work with you.  The real problem with such things is that pair programming etc. don't usually work out so well if you're blind.

Re: Accessible coding boot camps for the blind

Yes, it's generally a good idea to be specific when you are asking questions so that unnecessary clarifications don't need to be requested. As for what you want, Codecademy has a bunch of courses for a bunch of different things. It really depends though on what programming language you want to learn what the best resources are.

Okay then, will you please recommend free, blind friendly, self taught, interactive courses and tutorials for learning all programming languages. Easy enough for beginners and informative guides for professionals. I hope that’s a more clearer request.

Re: Accessible coding boot camps for the blind

Bootcamp pretty much universally means that you fly to somewhere like California for 6 weeks and come out of it with something on your resume.  It's an entire industry.  Like super intense college that only covers what you need to make an iPhone app.  Sometimes they're online, and maybe you could find a free one that way if you tried hard enough, but it wouldn't help the resume much unless you actually came out of it with an app or something, and the benefit of these things is that you have teachers, etc, to interact with.  It's not a reasonable thing to expect for free.If you want tutorials, ask for tutorials.  I've been programming too long to easily be able to provide some.  But in general I assume that people know what they're asking for, and while I understand there are language barriers and things, don't blame me for it.

How was 2 not helpful? If a website was what you were looking for, you should have said that, not that Camlorn's post was unhelpful because he didn't know what you meant. Your first post didn't really give a whole ton of details.
