Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

Personally I have a really hard time getting over that disconnect between my two hands.  All my gestures feel big and awkward, and in games like Swamp I worry about getting killed because of it.  I used to be pretty good with the mous but I'm very out of practice, and so few games use it (or do it right when they do) that it always feels like a secondary option I don't really need. When I had a good track pad I really liked that, because it felt more natural being closer to the keyboard and not a separate device, but finding responsive pads with two buttons can be really hard now.I also struggle with the sensitivity.  Swamp can only do so much internally for instance, and most games don't even have those settings.  I can do some through Windows but it often doesn't seem to take affect. That means the best way would be the software provided by the manufacturer, but that is often highly inaccessible, so it becomes a bit of a nightmare.I have nothing against the mouse as a concept, that would be stupid considering that most of the world uses it, and I know full well that blind people can too.  I respect people who are totally comfortable with it but I just don't end up using it enough to stay consistently good, which I feel bad about. That all said, this is getting really off topic and I think we should bring it back to the original subject now, as I don't really think much more can be said about this that hasn't already been many times before.

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

BGT's joystick support sucks. But let's take a look at this, "Using a mouse is a chore", premise, shall we. First of all, unless you have a gaming mouse, most of them are fairly lightweight, so, unless you have a motor or neural disability such as cerebral palsy, you have no excuse in that department. Second, the OS detects the mouse no matter when it is plugged in. This means that if you start up the game and think to yourself, "Damn, I forgot to plug in the mouse", you can simply do that and it will respond almost immediately. Third, let's tackle movement. If you move the mouse left, you aim left, if you move it right, you aim right. We're not on an alien planet with backward rules. Back in the days of Doom and Duke Nukem 3D, it was very common to have your vertical axis flipped, and most games honor this by giving the user the choice. This doesn't really apply to most audio games, as they do not use the vertical axis.As most of you are too young to remember this, allow me to regale you by telling the tale of the old PS/2 style ball mice. No, not track balls, those are different. These are mice, but with no scroll. The wheels came later and maybe the fanciest of those old ball mice had them, but nothing us commoners had. So, instead of a light shooting out the bottom of the thing, what we had was a rubber-coated steel ball. You needed a surface that would lend friction to the ball, allowing it to roll, which in turn, moved one of two roller wheels along the inner rim that the ball made contact with. One of these rollers represented the horizontal axis, another represented the vertical. Over time, the mouse would jump and stutter, or in some cases, barely work at all. when this happened, what you did was turn a plastic retaining ring counter-clockwise about a half turn and it would come loose, allowing the ball and the ring to fall out into your hand. You would then clean the ball. See, that's where most people went wrong. The ball being dirty in and of itself wasn't really the issue, it was just the catalyst. What really was going on here is that dirt would get in behind those little rollers, gumming them up. So sometimes, cleaning the ball would help a little, but if things were bad, you had to do a deep cleaning. Now, all mice are optical and have a wheel. The tracking is so good that in most cases, you don't even need a mouse pad. Hell, some of these mice will even track on glass, such as what you'd find on the tops of some coffee tables. And, if for some reason, you need a pad, they're like $5 bucks, and now you have a smooth operating experience.Of course, everyone has their preferences. But you'll never make me believe that you can be better in swamp with only the keyboard when the mouse is so precise, especially since it seems like you need to be right dead center on their asses with little margin of error. Joysticks / gamepads are nice, but most people just slam the stick to one side, which means they're not even using the analog nature of it, so the precision is lost. That reminds me of this one time in one game my brother was playing, you had to shoot the nose wheel of an airplane as it was rolling down the runway. He couldn't do it, but I could. His problem was that he was trying to snipe, but always jamming the stick to one side or the other, which meant that his aim was at the fastest speed. I didn't do that. Instead, I used it as intended, moving it fully to one side only to make the most broad adjustments, and dialing it in little by little until I was right there. So, when I hear people bitching about using a mouse - a device that has been used in gaming for nearly 30 years, the only thing I can think of is laziness or stubbornness.

Sounds like it's very individuel what people prefer regarding to input and controls to games. Therefore, it's important that a game supports as many different kinds of inputs as possible. SOme people likes the keyboard, some likes the mouse and others likes controllers and joysticks. Why not make games which supports it all to make everyone happy?

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

The thing is, I honestly have nothing against people who like the mouse. I happen to quite like the joystick myself and think that's probably the best way forward for everyone, BGT does have native joystick support, btw, but I also won't bash anyone who thinks otherwise unless they do the same to me. That does include saying that your preferred way of doing things is the *right* way, that's arrigant to say the least.

ok? I'm going to say what I said on the swamp discord server. Why should I have to use a seperate device to do something. I've just learned to not use a mouse sense touchpads suck and mice are a bit too wonkey with how audio is working in this moment for gaming, and it doesn't sound right ot just have sounds teleport for me when I can't tell if its cause they're moving or me, etc. I would like using a mouse for games when it becomes more streamline and it doesn't feel like a chore to play a game.

I don't mean to disappoint you or anything, but turning with a mouse is like, way way more precise than with a keyboard. Also, just because we do not use it daily, doesn't mean we can't use it in a game. Rather you shouldn't be lazy and try it out. You can get a mouse for laughably cheap prices, so that also should not be an issue. If blind people can play games using a touch screen, I see no reason why they can't using a mouse.

agree with 76 here, i prefere having to aim with left right up down arrows than with a mouse.and by the whay mohamed, you should make it so you can get the weapons around the map instead of having anything, thus giving you the possibility of making sets of say, 5 weapons, while the others are stored in your inv.that would give you the possibility to ad a fuck ton load of weapons.also, to give you an idea, you should add more stuf, like aircrafts. ok we have that, bue we should get other stuf liek idk, a tank? an armored truk? a race car? an armored police car with a small machinegun mounted on it?those are some ideas to make the game less... ya know, same as all the other games that have been released. and about the lag, well, i didn't have any. sure it lags when you have 4 or 5 bots on you, but we all know bgt.hope you can implement some more weapons, and can make it be more of a dead match mode thing than a run and kill.

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

71, every mainstream game, sure. Remember, we're talking about two very different markets here.Oh and just for the record, the fact that you think something might be using stolen code does not automatically make it so. I'm not sure how many times this needs to be said, but seriously. If you're unable to prove what you claim, all you're effectively doing is mud slinging. Then again, something's telling me that the majority of you wouldn't honestly care either way.Oh and, again, for probably the thousandth time. BGT is not the problem. Bad practis is the problem. Case and point, swamp. STW. This is 1 thing me and ammericranian can 100% agree on. The fact that BGT makes everything simple is, IMO, only a good thing. It's a tool just like any other, great in the right hands, terrible in the wrong ones.

You only fall into this spiral if you hop onto the same bandwagon than these guys and put no work into this, I thought you were able to differenciate between those things. At Mohamed, oh come on, that's just lazy development, an outdated readme? Really now? Also, critizising that an FPs, although it isn't one for a lack of mouse or gamepad support is a valid reason, every FPS has both of these features.Greetings Moritz.

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

@69, fair enough. The only reason I brought up BGT is because all the FPS games we've had in BGT were the exact same. Maybe that's due to a code leak, TK/RS/UP/BTB/CB/Whatever the fuck clones exist out there. But regardless, as you said, they probably just looked at illegal code and went, "Oh, that's how you do it," and can't really expand on that. As such, there are no new ideas being brought forth, and horrible habits being used. BGT in general does teach you bad coding habits, but that's a topic for another day.Networking is hard. I really do not understand it in anything but BGT and a little bit PB if I'm being completely honest. BGT simplifies it to high hell and back. Yet in the manual, under todo, it says to simplify it even more. And that could also be a part of the problem, it's too simple. That's what's holding me up, too. BGT made it seem so... Easy. And I'm not sure if that's because Enet is designed like that or BGT rapped it, but either way it's  way too dumbed down.

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

Can we stop with "It's BGT" excuse? Okay, I get it. It is BGT. It is not as fast as, say, Python. However, you can't justify all of the game faults by stating that the language is the cause of its problems.@mohamed, you conveniently ignored the rest of post 62 and only chose to address mouse support. While I do not agree on the necessity of such a feature, I am fully behind phantom90 when he says that the community is just refreshing the same concept again. I downloaded this, opened it for 5 minutes, and deleted it because it is exactly what I expected. No, new sounds do not count. No, new weapon names do not count. No, new maps do not count. What is left? Honestly, nothing. We have seen this game before. It is time to move on, folks. You can stay with BGT if that is what you choose, but you also have to realize that those games floating around and who have contributed to an increase in unauthorized activity also teach you bad practices. To put it in perspective, let's take Swamp. No, it's not written in BGT, but I am willing to bet cash that given the right knowledge, it could very well be recreated by using BGT networking. Last evening Swamp had 87 players. Most of them were active, chatting, doing missions, or simply looting. The server did not lag. An even better example is Survive the Wild, which last time I played had around 113 players online. Written in BGT, the game rarely lags, and most of said problem was fixed in its early days. You know why these newly released "games" (notice the quotation marks) experience those issues? It is because those who coded them looked at unauthorized code and went "Ah, that's how you do it!" and proceeded with poor solutions to their problems, excessive packet usage being one of them. Is it fair for me to expect teenagers to know networking? No, but by the same token, should those individuals make online games when they only have a vague idea of what they're doing? If yes, is it fair for them to release their exercise projects on this forum and try and establish them as games? I think not.I also do not understand the draw of online games. Why is it a common trend here to go "Hey guys, here's a Simon-like game, then a small (typically endless) side scroller in which you just kill things, and Bam! Have this multiplayer product!" I considered networking. I looked at it for quite some time. Guess what? It's much more than peer.send_reliable('some packet here') or whatever BGT networking functions are. To those who are considering creating the next "block buster" (Notice the repetition of quotation marks) please take time and consider this: It is harder to create a proper multiplayer game than it is to cook up an RPG like Manamon II.I can already hear some of your arguments: "We don't have anything better!" "You're such a negative person and this developer was just trying to release a game the community could enjoy!" I'll answer both of these. Are we so desperate to play any online game that we settle for a rehash of the same concepts? It is as if the community is starving and can never get enough of mostly burnt cake. It tastes bad, it gets stuck in our throats, and yet we eat it and eagerly ask for more. When do we tell the cooks in the kitchen that we have higher standards? When do we finally refuse the mess which so many of their projects become and force people to actually think before releasing their ideas? There is an idea of evolution throughout the universe. However, looking at the first couple of pages yields a sinister conclusion: Are we evolving backwards? For the record, this game was not the only thing which has sparked this post. It was, however, "the last straw".

Ty, it's actually not so bad. Limited slightly in scope, but more than sutible for an FPS project. The reason myself, and doubtless others, reframe from using it is because it's just simply not our stile. I hate gaming with the mouse. Perhaps I'm in the minority, but it is what it is. I make games for myself first, the community second, which is why you haven't been seeing anything from me in a long time.Btw, Mohamed, check your twitter.

@64 LOL, so a game that has apparently been around since March doesn't have a ready readme? And to the person asking why no mouse support? Because BGT. BGT's mouse support sucks. Actually, scratch that. BGT's support for 99 percent of things sucks. But people continue to use it, especially for networking, because it's all sort of just, handed to you. That's why there's not much inavation on that front. There's only so much you can do with a tool that's 10 years old, and not even recommended by the author himself. All the other people with the knowhow of making an online FPS game in literally anything but BGT either don't care, or don't have the time.

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

Ah, just another game exactly like many before it. Impressive that 10 years after Swamp came out we're still trying to make FPS games without mouse support. Just one more reason that Swamp still has the best current PVP system around in the audiogames community. Also little to no control over sounds, steps are insanely loud in this like many other games. I've never quite understood how a game which was developed as a  small little random project can continue to dominate shooting games in our community 10 years after it came out. For me, it isn't even that these things continue to be replicas of the exact same other games which come before them. It is more that that the replicas aren't even taking a baby step forward with each new duplication. Again, where is mouse support, where are customizable volume levels, where are the different game modes, for that matter where is the innovation at all. Someone above asked where the read me is? You know why there isn't one, because by this point this community should know how to play every one of these replica games, after all nothing has changed. I'm not active on this  forum for many reasons but I'll put it out here now. I'm willing to financially help support a developer who can do something different and finally give Swamp some competition in the FPS world. I can't code, but I'll personally be happy to offer what support I can to a developer truly willing to step out of this replica box created within BGT. Feel free to reach out if you think that's you. I'm almost never on this  forum but I'm always around in the Swamp discord.

IIRC, suliman was the authur of bts in the first place. so it's not a clone, rather a spiritual successor/update/spinoff.

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

Hi.I've just downloaded the game, created an account and found the server to be down.Where is the readme? Most comments in this topic reminds me about why I wouldn't make any games if I could. Remember this is a public forum, where people can read all the comments without signing in. How many developers do you think would find motivation in making audiogames or any other games accessible after having read this topic?Well, I'll just play something else. Something which might be playable. If it's playable, then I think this forum is the last place where I'm going to share this after having read this topic. My motivation is currently at 0 after having read this topic.

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

The game's been out since mey/june, so no, its not new.Mohamed didn't announce it here just because he know what would happen if he did, i knew the same thing so i didn't even suggest to him to release the game on here.Maybe the game if not innovative, but its not a reason to say that this is a clone. Actually, it partially is a clone but not in the meaning you thing.Things you guys refer as clones are unauthorized forks, not actual clones, so go get the definition before you blame something to be a clone because this aint an unauthorized fork. Also, stop calling these games clones because its driving me mad. This game is a partial clone of ideas, like all the games from like 5 years ago til now. As many have sayd same navigation, same concepts, same things. Mohamed's a great guy, and he actually listens to constructive feetback, or atleast some of it.I've suggested to him to add custom server's to bts cause its practically death and payed users wil get even more from that, he did so.I've suggested to him to add master rangs to the bts server to add and remove admins easily, he did so.So guys, if you want a good game, help Mohamed with making it instead of trying to cut him in to bits and pieces.I really thing if he'll start geting constructive feedback here, he'll start announcing his games here as well.

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

Ok, so yes, maybe we should give new ideas, you are correct. However, did anyone ask, hey, I am making a new game, and I want it to be A FPS. Do you have any ideas of anything new and innovative I could work on? No, the game just came out. It's usually how it ends up being. A dev works on a game, nobody knows, so nobody can give ideas. Then it turns out being like all the other games we seen already. So partially yes, maybe the community is to be blamed as well, but the community needs a place to vote and give feedback about new ideas, and a developer needs to be willing to listen to them before releasing something. Being that the dev himself did not even announce the release here, I doubt this forum will contribute much to both the success or a possible downfall of this game.

@ogomez92Mohamed Sulaiman worked with Tunmi13 on Bloodstorm, Build to Survive, Air Puck, and Battle of the Hunter.Good games?  Definitely not.  But this isn't his first project either. You also say your self that it's based off another game which is based off another game which is based off Redspot.  No where in that chain do I hear solid evidence of code steeling by him.Is it possible that this is using stolen code of some kind?  Yes, absolutely! but to just assume like that and start the thread out badly without even really looking at the thing? That's what I was calling irresponsible, because even if you don't like the dude and have your strong suspicions about this new release, you should be the bigger person and hold your tongue for the sake of the forum, as all this drama can really do is hurt everyone, where as helping to ignore the game should cause it to fade faster. But I do definitely understand the frustration.

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

I am not going to comment on the whole "clone" situation, because clearly as pointed by others it has many many meanings in this community. What I am going to say, however is for people to be a little more patient before hopping on the bandwagon. Just because a lot of games we've seen so far were in fact clones, not all are fokes. If you want a dev to put their hard work, time, and patience into a project you should try to be a little patient and open-minded as well. Yes I get that some of it comes from said dev's past but at least try to have some evidence to back your claims. Also, @ivan I think the issue is that this is a very big community and so I don't really think you can please everyone. Some people prefer just some game where you can connect, grind for items, weapons, so on and so forth, and start shooting. Others like some strategy into the mix, such as missions, team matches, etc. etc.. You know, innovation that hasn't really been seen before. Personally I'm with the later crew but as I said. This is a very large community and so people will have differing opinions. So one way or the other, certain people are going to shit on you. I dare say that if something not quite seen before and creative is made though, the complaining and wining crew would be a minority and honestly, that is something you will always have. Some will actually have constructive feedback, others?  Not so much.

I'm going to agree with Pool here. I have heard many players complain about how Redspot is gone, wa wa wa wa wa. But when someone comes and releases something similar to RS, everyone jumps down on the developer's throat.I think it's time for the community to start telling us what they want, letter by letter. It's hard to please everyone as is, it's even harder pleasing a community who shits on anything that has FPS. So, what new ideas would you like to see on the table. Perhaps telling the developer what you want changed rather than "screw this it's just another clone" may get you something better.

I tried the game for a while, and, it seemed fine to me. what I'm having hard time to understand is , why're we being double faced, we want red spot back, on the other hand, if someone tries to grab our attention by throwing a somewhat similar project with slightly different concepts/ features/ whatever, we call it a clone by considering the litteral meaning of it.people who uses stolen code to create their game, we call it a clone, people who comes up with similar idea's with their own code, we call it a clone, is it fair to treat both the cases in similar ways? but then, it's hard to identify if the person used the stolen code or not, it's just me being me, confused.

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

@23I didn't say anything about games needing to be good. What makes a good game is different for everyone anyways depending on their interests. There's nothing wrong with releasing another pvp game, but why is it exactly the same as every other pvp game that came before it? All I'm asking is for someone to try something even slightly different whenever they decide to release their version. It's a game, and it works, but it's been released many times already. @31Even just changing some of the text for the menu items to make it feel like a different game. Of course text like Speaker Test is going to be used across many games, but there are options that have the same text word for word as other games.

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

@23, IDK, but I quite enjoy common keystrokes, especially iph they're intuitive? and generally well thought  out. Same phor menus. Also, I don't quite see how you can innovate menus, or make them pheel dipherent. They all pretty much do the same thing. Audiogame or not.

@nidza07Yes, but as you illustrated, we all know the meaning of the word in this community...

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

I tried it out.And it's pretty much exactly what I expected. There's a new levelling system, and the vehicles are kinda cool, work a LOT like Redspots jets, but... it's not much more innovative.

Re: Bullet Haven, a new shooting game!

No, it does not. Clone does not mean ban the game, it is illegal. It only does in this community. It is not an unauthorised fork, but it is a clone of the exact same idea, stile, gameplay, that will no doubt be discontinued in less than a year, and it will not happen because of the community.
