Re: Calling all rockbox nerds

I have the latest gen shufle I got from a friend because she lost the charger for it, but I loved it untill I also lost the cable for it.It is pink and needs a case and a new cable, but I would still use it in 2020.Question, can anything be installed on it or is it as locked down as you could possibly go?I would be curious to buy one of these little charging docks and thinker with it, since 2 gb these days for music is kinda meh.

Jack, thanks for that. Definitely something to look into. I'll probably get one of those old IPods as well just for the hell of it, although having something with an internal speaker will certainly be useful. Wearing headphones all the time does get really, really old after a while.

Re: Calling all rockbox nerds

I still have my old 40 gb braille+ That was probably one of the most durable assistive tech products I have ever used. I had a friend drop his off the second story of a building, and the metal cover came off of mine because I wore it on me all the time when walking to classes, and it rains a lot here. Both still worked. It was the bulkiest mp3 device I ever used and it went through it's battery really fast though.Later I had a samsung gs2 phone with an app called rocklock that turned your lock screen in to an mp3 player that you can control without needing the screen reader to talk. You could flick left or right to change songs, and drawing a circle had it fast forward or rewind, and flicking up told you the title. I wish that app still worked on today's droids, but i think you can't completely take over the lock screen like that anymore. It was so much fun showing all my fancy rich friends with iphones who had to feel around and listen to the different on-screen controls, while I could just control my phone as if it still had physical buttons. Apps that modify the volume buttons are the closest thing I can find nowadays for this. You could always get an lg phone as they are supposed to have dacs almost as good as some music players that are much better than most phones, then it will talk and play streaming services as well. I just use a cheep android I got in China for a media consumption device, as i never expect to spend enough money on headphones to notice the difference in dac quality.

Re: Calling all rockbox nerds

I got an iPod Video, 80 gigs I think, back in 2009. It had Rockbox on it, and was about the size of a deck of cards, but slimmer. Had a flat circle with a button in the center, everything was nearly flush with the screen. I fucking loved that thing. Then I lost it on a plane and never got it back. I mean, it'd be eleven years out of date now, but I still loved that thing.

Re: Calling all rockbox nerds

15: I got an 80 GB 5th gen back in 2006 and have worked the poor thing hard over the years. The drives aren't the thing you have to watch out for as they only spin up periodically to cache tracks into ram. Batteries though? Mines has been through at least 4 changes that I can remember doing due to me using the hell out of it. Besides that it's been jolted around, dropped more times than I care to remember, had stuff dropped on it more times than I remember, almost set on fire once, Stood on once and almost stolen by a small child.  I've written at least half a terabyte to the drive over the years and the thing just won't die. Apple were a different company back then though, they built shit to last.

There's the Benji t6, and owing to the fact Laz doesn't include headphones with this one I'm pretty sure this one has a built-in speaker, and additional Bluetooth support. Contains Rockbox as well. Here's the original location for this player.https://penonaudio.com/benjie-t6.html

Re: Calling all rockbox nerds

Talking MP3 guy is a complete ripoff, plus I'm about 90 percent sure that Haily is in the UK so she would be getting massive shipping costs on top of being ripped off. Your best bet is getting an iPod 5th or 5.5th generation as they have the best DACs, are well supported in the utility and you don't have to navigate the og firmware to enable mass storage mode. Plus listening to that tiny HDD whirring and clicking away never gets old.

Did you check on Ebay? Back when I refused to use a touch screen phone I got another Nokia 6650 there. As for Talking MP3 Players it is over priced but if you buy the memory cards elsewhere it's not too bad. Good luck I hope you can find one that works with your price range.

Calling all rockbox nerds

Hey,So I'm looking for a good rockbox player. My only requirements are that it is lightweight and has an internal speaker. I'm currently using a sonsa clip + belonging to a teacher here, however it has suffered some water damage from the time he used it, thus the headphone jack isn't the most reliable thing in the world. I'm also lacking good quality 3.5 mm headphones right now.
