Re: Game purchase ranking list

@Tom, that is odd indeed, sinse while I do remember such crash bugs throughout the betas other than a couple of known issues the current version is pretty stable. I wonder, which version are people using? Have people run the updater patch? The latest stable build is 1.2K, (the updater patch is on the driftwood site). Of course, it could be a windows Issue sinse obviously Im using xp and entombed was primarily developed on xp along with windows 7 32 bit, so it could be just a case of microsoft strikes again .

Re: Game purchase ranking list

@Dark, when it comes to Entombed I too have encountered a lot of bugs in the game. It could just be due to your setup you have not experienced any problems, but what Xoren has to say is all too true. For example, I have had a number of cases where my party were engaged in a long fight with goblins etc and the game will suddenly crash. Ill get some .NET runtime error and then the game exits.I have experience similar crashes at various points of the game. Since Jason isnt working on updating the game I have not wrote down each and every bug I have encountered, but sad to say Entombed certainly has its fair share of critical bugs and issues. More than are to be expected for a game of its price and reputation. So Id agree with the buyer beware warning.@Johnnyto, as for Lone Wolf it is undoubtedly one of my favorite audio games. Although, outdated in some respects the closest mainstream game I can come to comparing to Lone Wolf is Aces of the Deep.
Lone wolf comes with like 17 missions with the initial install but with all the extra mission packs etc there are well over 100 to play and many hours of fun there in. It is definitely worth the price to buy it.

I would also recommend buying Entombed as a way to support the development of Entombed 2 as well, particularly sinse it will likely take a couple of years before Entombed 2 has the same sort of content 1 has now.

Re: Game purchase ranking list

Dark, well have to agree to disagree on this one. You can think me overstating the issue, and Ill think you understating the issue. There are enough game-crashing bugs in Entombed that can undo your progress through the dungeon and, if youre a newcomer who doesnt realize that constant saving at almost every step is required, the frustration of losing a game to a crash is annoying as all. Its not limited to shaman, either. Sometimes while attacking skeletons, the game would crash on me, usually preempted by the skeleton refusing to die, even though Ive scored massive hits to destroy its head. Its been a while since Ive played Entombed, so my laundry list of bugs is no longer with me, but suffice it to say that, when Im playing a game, I want to enjoy it, not contend with its motel of bugs. Johnnyto may indeed enjoy the game if he buys it, and thats great, but he was asking for honest opinions, and so I give him a pie
ce of honest advice to remember should he still wish to purchase it. He shouldnt expect a flawless game, nor should he expect any form of address in the case of one, as I myself discovered when I bought it. Had I known that the game had effectively been abandoned by then, I wouldnt have bought it. I prefer to buy games which have some degree of developer backing, and Entombed, at the time of my purchase, was not that. Heck, I bought Psycho Strike thinking that this early on in the development, the coders for that project would still be involved in the game, but they too have gone curiously silent. Its for this reason that I now stick to mainstream games, which have commercial pressure to fix their bugs.Kai

Re: Game purchase ranking list

Fair warning if youre considering buying Entombed: The game has more bugs than a ten-cent motel. Furthermore, being a game abandoned by the developer (codewise), those bugs wont ever be fixed.I find it hard to ever recommend people spend their money on games which are no longer being maintained by their developers, more so when such games are rife with problems.Ill say honestly that Entombed was the only game I ever regreted buying, simply because of that lack of interest by the developer. Compared to games like Swamp (which was free for the longest time) that receive tons of updates and maintenance, its a hard pill to swallow to blow 40 bucks on a game wherein the developer has cast aside. The game is fun, for what its worth, but I feel like the plethora of bugs in the game which wont ever be addressed warrant a buyer beware label. Likewise with MKX for PC. At its current state, I cannot recommend you buy MKX either. This do
esnt mean it wont someday be a recommended title -- they might fix the bugs enough to make the port viable. I myself regret being an early adopter of the PC port because of the numerous bugs in the PC version which the developer isnt addressing at all.The most stable and playable games you can buy for Steam are Ultra Street Fighter IV and Skullgirls. I imagine there are other games on Steam, but I can only comment on those which I have. Others, for example, enjoy Sacred Citadel, but I myself do not have it, so cannot provide an opinion on its stability and playability.I hope my honesty on Entombed and MKXs bugs helps you. If you know about the bugs and still are willing to support the developer and spend the money, thats great, and at least youll be doing so with full foreknowledge.Kai

Its also not as if the developer has abandoned the game as you put it, but hes moved on to a better designed and improved sequel. There are some inherent imbalance problems in the game like magic never missing and the hardness problem, but these are being fixed in the new game, and certainly dont detract from how awsome entombed 1 already is.

Re: Game purchase ranking list

@johnnyto, god knows what Id rate games out of ten, particularly sinse comparing the experience of something like entombed and something like beatstar much less shades is verging on the impossible. Of the games I mentioned though, Entombed and Smugglers 5 would definitely be my top recommendations.Entombed you cannot revive dead party members anyway, the idea is to stop them dying . Id recommend buying the full game rather than waiting for entombed ii, both because who knows how long the entombed ii development will take, and because Entombed 1 is a different game in a different setting and while the second game will have similarities it will probably not be the same in all respects. As to smugglers 5, I have no idea what you mean about instructions there is an instruction manual but its not necessary to read at all to play th
e game, just begin. there is a tutorial in the game itself, or you can check out my podcast, or you can just try the game. Paladin of the sky is not unfortunately like dragoon saga, no riding giant dragons which is a shame. Its got a nice story, albeit I htink the writing couldve done with some work. As to shades of doom, well on the one hand playing with a mouse is good, on the other hand shades just has some good moments all of which I enjoyed with the keyboard, like leaving timed blast mines behind you and getting monsters to chase you into them, or facing sideways to a corridor full of monsters, strafing across and letting them have it. Sarah is great fun though rather hard to find all the secrets and such, plus I would actually recommend trying shades before sarah sinse its built with the same engine but is less trouble with the many objects and such.as to lone wolf, Im not sure not having played or really heard of many sub ga
mes, but there is both a demo and plenty of material like podcasts on the game, sinse while its not really been discussed here for a while its been very well known in the community previously, indeed that is probably why it has less discussion now sinse most people have tried it.I totally agree about pappasangre one, the gyro mode is great. Hey thanks dark, your comment was definitely useful! In regards to entombed, I was tempted to buy it but I think I am going to wait for entombed twoand I have no idea how to revive dead allies in the demo lol.s5 seems very interesting, but as well I fear I will get confused with learning the whole concept...I tend to skip out on games that have too many hot keys or long gameplay instructions. I like to just jump in and learn on the way, which is why the only thing I know how to do on my computer/jaws is write/research essays for class, torrent download, watch shows, and play games (the list is sad, but laziness and school trumps my life lol).I was reading up on paladin, it does remind me of legend of dragoon (which I miss very much so from ps1, especially turning into a dragoon and the cool background music), but I am having trouble hitting the action key at the precise time of the beep on the tutorial mode...which kind of deters me from the game because what
if I always fail in battling due to not hitting the action key on time. His playing fps games on the keyboard as fun and exciting as the mouse, or is it less exhillerating due to the, you know, non-mouse swiftness (imagines the flash using computer mouse) lol. The game sarah sounds really fun!what does gma mean, Im assuming thats the production company acronym? but anyways, does lone wolves game resemble any other mainstream game in the past, and what rank out of 10 stars would you rate these games?@Aaron, thanks for the comment but unfortunately I put choiceofgames in my blacklist...theyre great games do not get me wrong, but I am looking more into interactive leveling up games. Zombie exodus is pretty funny, tin star I didnt want to buy because of the price (imo hypothetically I would use the tin star money to invest in another game), and I bought a few other of those games but just got bored of them. Yea replay
value is 5/10 stars imo, but I tend to just skip the text and choose another option whenreplaying these games until I get a different text story.I am in love with my iPhone, but it seems like all the good games I bought and have gotten bored of. KODP, like Ive said in a past post (ironic lol), has a lot of bugs so I just gave up on that. audio defence, night jar, papa sangre 2 I have finished completely, but replaying gets boring after you get every single achievement or upgrade/weapon. Papa sangre 1 is great but I am having difficulty with the non-gyro mode (which they should totally update to) and am stuck at the check board level with the stupid hog lol.I bought some game called silversword thinking it was a dungeon and dragon kinda gameplay, is playable but specifically voice over does not work that great in it.Anyone know about psycho-strike? I played the demo but it is extremely difficult to pass any level after the first stage, and I am alw
ays arrested after when attempting any mission. But I would love to try the gang members in the aforementioned game because it reminds me of gta or saints row haha. And anyone who has bought this game mind rating it out of 10 stars for me? Thanks for the comments guys, really appreciate it, I invite anyone and everyone to add more!P.S. any popular, intelligent, whitty, or GOOD lawyers on here? Would love to get some tips about the path to success as I am walking on that road at the moment. lol. Hello,And if you are looking for iPhone stuff, you probably already know about Choice of Games, but the game Id really recommend would be Tin Star. it really is huge and has a lot of side content, much like Zombie Exodus. Tin Star is et in the old wild west, so youve got gun wielding outlores, bank robbers, and also a hole gang who is trying to take over, plus some other stuff I dont really want to tell you about because that would spoil the story. The ending was also very satisfying, it really feels like youve been on a journey thats not just a journey, but something that you have shaped and been a part of.

Re: Game purchase ranking list

@Aaron, it depends upon the game, but many like shadow horror and choice of robots are specifically made to be replayable, I can also say Zombie exodus has a good degree of replay value as well with the different professions and relationships, though not as much as something like robots. Heros rise is more like an rpg where you have a set order of events and need to choose the right things to fit that order of events best and then have challenges to do. I wouldnt personally ever go for random clicking, sinse its too easy to screw yourself over in one of the choiceofgames. I really need to give Tinstar a try. Its not that Ive got anything against the game, indeed I bought it when it was on offer, its just I havent embarked on a longer game for a while though I probably should.Ill also note that Mortal Kombat X and Injustice Gods among us that Ironcross mentions are mainstream beatemup games
and will take lots of sound and menu memorization to play. Certainly possible, but dont think just because theyre mentioned along side judgement day and tank commander that theyre audiogames.@Ironcross, the zero site game and its addon are definitely worth a try, (as I said I am always amazed they dot get more notice than they do), however note that they are not easy, you can even crash on your first takeoff or landing if your not careful and need to understand what your doing. Go and have a listen to the Tutorials for the game. Oh and also, no key is required so dont worry about losing a key for them .

Game purchase ranking list

Hey guys,I am planning on purchasing one game on pc, but having a hard time fixating on one choice because it seems like I want to buy all of them lol.do you mind giving me your opinion on which game is the best investment in ranking order? Please only list games that must be purchased with money, and it does not really matter what type of game it is...I will be checking up on it before I buy it haha.P.S. I have kodp, papa sangre 1/2, audio defence, some choiceof games books, and most likely have all of the mobile games that work with voice over, but you are free to post them under the pc games P.S.S. not really into racing games or fps (restricted to a laptop, crucified by the trackpad lol), and sorry if this is in the wrong topic zone.P.S.S.S. I like RPGs and assume purchased games are updated regularly, so giving up on free games at the moment (no
muds please I am sick of them)P.S.S.S.S.S. sorry for the many P.S.s lol

Re: Game purchase ranking list

Hi Johnnyto. First off on the list is Entombed see page. It is not being updated, however as you will see from another very mighty thread on the forum the sequel is currently in development. If however you havent played the first game there is still a lot to be got out of it as its the most advanced audio rpg there has been thus far. Story wise it is fairly simple, you are flung into a dungeon and need to survive, but in terms of tactical combat and choice the game is amazing, it has eleven different playable races, 18 different jobs (of which each of your party gets two), a lot of randomly generating weapons and armor and some definitely evil bos fights. While the game has some inequities in balance, (which are being ironed out in the sequel), entombed is still an amazing game which will take you literally hours. It costs 39 usd which is at the upper end for audiogames in t
erms of price, but there is still a massive amount of stuff in the game. However, rather than just listening to me woffle about it download and try the demo, it lets you play the first 7 out of 25 dungeon floors, choose from five of the total of eleven races, and 7 out of the total of 18 different jobs, so it gives you a good taste of the game. Next, there is Smugglers 5 Secession see page (and indeed the hole smugglers series, but s5 Secession is the most prominant). Smugglers are a series of space themed rpg/stratogy games. back in the mists of time, (well actually in 2007), Smugglers 3 was discovered to work very wwell with screen readers, and when S4 and the two s5 games came out the developer included ful blind compatibility, that is all elements of the game are labeled and can be played with a screen readers virtual curser function by clicking on the screen, supernova and
window eyes works flawlessly, Nvda will work if your aware of some commands (there is a guide about this in the articles room), though Jaws Ive heard has more problems due to the way its virtual curser reads the screen. Anyway, enough of the bad stuff, smugglers 5 is amazing! you get to play a space pilot in a ship during a war between four factions, and get to choose one of six professions which dictate how you advance and what abilities you have, you can be a bounty hunter or fleet officer and do lots of fighting, be a pirate, hide from the law and take over other ships to steel their cargo, or play a trader and buy and sell goods, eventually owning your own factories. each of the four factions also has its own ships and equipment as well so the game can be played many different ways. The combat in the latest smugglers games is amazing, you have not only the abilities of your ship like firing laser guns and missiles, but also a pack of different skil
ls to use which you get at random, everything from jamming the opponents ability to missguide your missiles to lining up for a more powerful shot. You also have a huge galaxy to explore with 25 different star systems with 80 different planets, each planet has its own background story which you can playthrough like a scene in one of the choiceofgames. The game has a demo which will let you play through the first 200 odd turns, though not leave your first star system, also you can check out This podcast on sendspace by some fool called Dark which shows off smugglers 5 Secession. If you like s5 Secession you can also investigate Smugglers 5 invasion which is like a second version of s5 Secession taking place 50 years later at a time when the galaxy has been invaded by a nasty alien race called the Jalkath. it comes with n
ew factions to play (especially the Jalkath), completely new stories for each planet, plus a load of downloadable packs that add extra background stories as over all goals in the game. Both smugglers games are still being updated, or at least they were as of last March when a new background pack for S5 invasion was releasd. Oh, and if your a really! big smugglers fan you can also buy smugglers 1-4, (s1, s3, and s4 are all accessible), at a very low price when you buy the other games. Then there is Paladin of the sky this is another attempt at an audio rpg similar to mainstream ones. You can play a number of characters and gain a party as you play out a story involving the survivers of a war between dragons and humans journeying to another planet. the game has a killer soundtrack and a very! long playing time (30 hours plus), and the story is nice though imho rather lacking in des
cription and also a trifle ill thought out in places. the combat system is unique, working like a rythm action game, though unfortunately there isnt any armour or equipment. Still its a very nice game and the developers appreciate support. Moving away from rpgs, I also wonder if youve considered Shades of doom I know you said no fps games, but shades of doom can be played quite successfully on a laptop keyboard, (I have done so myself). It was the first ever audio fps game
