Re: Gaming Computer for Audio Games

Hi cae.I have never seen one.I did have a force feadback stick, but after I got it a friend said that the older sticks didn't centre well and he got a presition stick its all gamepads now and I don't play enough games to warent me getting one.As for getting a real gaming mouse not a budget midrange job I havn't really gone over the mx 518 mainly because the only game to really use it is swamp and now I have dmnb especially, I really can't justify the expence on paying for swamp and not using it and becide with all the extra stuff going on gaming is on the end of a long list.

Re: Gaming Computer for Audio Games

I pretty much agree with what is said here. One small correction though. The only game that I know with 5.1 surround sound is shades of doom v2.0. If all games that uses the GMA game engine uses the latest should be ok in that department. From the best I can tell, the only game that really might depend on speed in the like is TDV. Ok ok ok, TDV also uses surround sound.

Re: Gaming Computer for Audio Games

Hi.Well strictly speaking, at minimum with today's technology.an i5 duel core, with 4gb ram, win7 32 bit, and a hard drive, with a not shared 1gb video card like an amd radion will work.Other configurations may work to but I havn't had much less to do with those of late.Other units as far back as a 2ghz single or 1ghz single could play games with xp.Remember you need to fit in your os, sapi, your reader and all the other software before you fit your game in.If you are playing offline games mostly, a good configuration would be.windows xp running on a pentium 4 2.0ghz, 1gb ram, and 80 gb hard drive. That would work. However no twitter, no net, no security software, all that is running should be windows, no high quality sapi synths either.I would recomend at least 4gb  for a normal system with net.Idealy you should double that to 8gb, at least and 64 bit though I have never needed to.Gaming accesser
y wise I have always wanted a gaming keyboard for the durability and ffeel.I must say that a gaming mouse is essentual, I have a logitech mx518 and its good. You don't need the logitech software installed , just the  gaming mouse itself it should be round 30 bucks.Other than that unless you want a gamepad maybe an xbox controler or something I guess, the only thing really needed is a pair of good sets zenheiser hd201s or higher is ok though remember that some models are a bit heavier than others.I know at guys sells aftershock bone induction units and they may be all one needs.Avoid your 10 buck light and cheap because you don't get the full range of sound.

Re: Gaming Computer for Audio Games

Do they still sell the Logitech mice with Immersion-compatible force feedback capabilities? I've been wanting to mess with that since 2008, but never could find one (and I'm not likely to buy an Immersion license without hardware to test it on).For a market consisting entirely of blind people, our lack of haptics is kinda astounding. But I guess that's kinda turned into my pet issue, somehow.

Re: Gaming Computer for Audio Games

Audio games aren't all that demanding, at least so far. If your interested there's a PC Guide on Kotaku that covers various price ranges. For an Audio Gaming rig though it makes sense to get a good Sound Card instead of a Video Card, motherboards usually come with built in GPUs these days anyway.

Re: Gaming Computer for Audio Games

Short version: don't worry about it. Get a box that runs your operating system well, and play away.long version:Agreed with everything said here. I'll break down components:video: forget graphics. completely. The only situation I've ever had graphics issues was when I tried to run teraformers in 3d mode on a windows 98 box with a 4mb graphics chip.my processor examples:p2(350mhz) works well for some stuff, not so well for others. You'll notice games running a bit slower than they otherwise might, but they'll still do it. If you only play on this and don't come from a faster box, you probably won't notice much of a difference.p4 at 2.8ghz (10 years old ish): runs pretty much everything like a pro. Its not 100% - and there are things that can potentially slow down if the game is doing massive amounts of number crunching, but you'll have to work to find them.Intel core i5 480m/Intel Pentium e5300 (5 y
ears old on average): You games think you've got a chance? Nice try.Ram: This is the one component I'd take seriously. very min 2gb for win7, 1gb for xp. Twice or more than that highly recommended. Most games are polite to ram, most of the time. Don't bet on it, and don't short change yourself and your machine.storage: 25gb of available space for installations is more than enough for almost anything. If you fill that, and actively play all the games you've got, you're pretty game crazy. 100gb of space will probably last you years of both installed games and the setup/zip files. As a comparison, the game archive project I mentioned briefly in another thread is currently about 25 gb, and I'm being obsessive about collecting past versions of everything I can get download links for.Ssd or hdd: If you're getting an ssd, do it for the computer, not for the games. I've tried running a number of games from a ram disk (whi
ch is faster than an ssd) and noticed zero difference as opposed to my spinning drive. You've pretty much got to move all the way to USB2.0 in order to notice anything, and even then its only in certain circumstances.

Re: Gaming Computer for Audio Games

Hi Pveryverygooddoog.Well if you have a pc  you have nothing to worry about the majority of games run on pcs withno problems. For example I bought a laptop from the store opened it up set it up 5 minutes later I was playing audiogames  no problem. If you have the means it's probably a good idea to get a solid-state drive and extra mb this will make your computer happy but it's not necessary. I can't afford things like a solid-state drive even though I would love to have there basically a luxury for your computer. But like everybody else said there's really nothing you need to play audiogames with. Just as long as you have a working computer jaws or nvda and a couple of games ready to go your good. In some games like operation blacksquare or shades of doom you don't even need the screen reader on.Hth.

Re: Gaming Computer for Audio Games

Right now, you really don't need anything in particular. For the current generation of audio games the basic built-in sound cards are enough because I'm not aware of any audio games that support proper 5.1 or 7.1 surround, apart from the older directX games where this support is broken thanks to post XP windows killing off hardware acceleration for sound. So, I suppose you'll want to put your money to accessories, get a mechanical keyboard, maybe a gamepad, buy some good sounding SAPI voices, and maybe a copy of JAWS and leasy to play Q9 XDAs for other hardware, for audio games you're really good with just about anything, even a gig of ram and the cheapest celeron processor will probably be able to play anything. Of course if you give the computer more ram, and, say, a solid state drive and a faster, i5/i7 processor, Windows will feel a lot faster and programs will load faster but you won't really notice too much of an improvement with audio games.<
br />Hopefully, future titles will push boundaries in sound and performance more, but right now you could even go out to a thrift store, get a used computer for 50 bucks or less, and you could still play just about any audio game.

Gaming Computer for Audio Games

I am interested in buying or building a computer specifically for audio games.  I know that gaming computers are usually expensive, because a lot of popular mainstream games need a lot of RAM , storage space, and a decent graphics processor.  What sort of specifications might an audio gaming computer need in comparison?

Re: Gaming Computer for Audio Games

Hi,In prcessing power games don't really need much. I remember playing on my old computer with a pentium processor with 1gb ram. You should get about 500 gb of hard disk though, because of sounds etc games are pretty big.
