I think most browsers nowadays do that to try and compensate for all the sites that don't have mobile pages. then again that may not be the case and there are more mobile pages than I'm honestly aware of. Either way it actually

I actually prefer the minimised layout, less to arrow or navigate through. Plus, if I really, really, really, really (you get the idea) want to check user stats, I'll click on the user profile in a new tab. Simple as that.

If your using Chrome, bare in mind that Chrome has a miner bug, where sometimes it displays in a very small window, which causes issues on not just this forum but some other web pages too. This is easy to fix by going to your chrome

Just push windows key plus up arrow a few times to make the webpage full size. I’m not sure how to do this on other operating systems but googling how to resize a page should get you what you need.
