I went through the stupid trees but couldnt find anything, sinse it seems the sidebars from Itunes 11 that were used to switch between trees had vanished between versions. as to importing as I said, I checked the Itunes folder after importing a cd and nada. to be honest I hate all this media library stuff anyway, especially sinse it seems to be linked to this modern convention of chucking as much crap at the screen as possible. I just am not sure why it seems to be giving so many problems when many of us are seemingly using it just fine. Maybe youre right from a few posts ago... and apple just has a hobby of seeing how much they can annoy you. Its a conspiracy!Good luck with the talking mp3 player... rockbox is useful, but can be a pain in and of itself... I remember using it a long time ago, and if its the same as I remember, then there may be a lot of fiddling you have to do to get it to speak everything properly with use of .voice files and the like. But I could be wrong. Its been years since I used that custom firmware. Ill stick with itunes... as right now, it actually organizes my things pretty well if I tell it to show me albums. You store your media in the internal memory and on micro sd cards.Im actuallly considering purchasing one of these, since they look really nice. In my Windows Vista PC They were hidden inc:\users\phil\music\iTunes\iTunes MusicInside that folder were the artists folderssuch as,Ariana Grandeand inside that were the album foldersMy Everything (Deluxe)and inside that was the sound files,05 Break Free (feat. Zedd).m4aAfter converting the file I added the artist name,Ariana Grande 05 Break Free (feat. Zedd).mp3Now I can copy the file and back it up and play it on any device that plays mp3s.I do not share this file with anyone except for my wife. It was formerly a product called SoundJam MP, with the goal to organise your music. Then, indeed, it played your MP3s, conveniently, from a simple interface. The iPod and the iTunes Store came later in Apples history, after Apple acquired SoundJam which it renamed to iTunes, but were convenient to the iTunes model. Well never know if thats why Apple wanted such a product with that goal in mind, but looking back, its an excellent fit. Leave the user disjoint from the file system for media organisation and things like this are really possible; an excellent idea, if it had worked exactly as people wanted it to. Sadly it doesnt work for everyone, though mostly I think through the shortsightedness of Apple rather than because its infeasible. Just because I personally am very strict with file and folder organization, and have for example all my Doctor who audiobooks indexed in folders by doctor, and then have their individual parts each numbered with the correct story number doesnt mean everyone is. I can quite accept that someone who just wants to bang on a playlist or have their media auto organized should have programs to do that. Likewise, sinking the phone is a good idea in principle. heck, Ill even accept that having vendors be able to sell media directly and it be instantly downloaded is a good idea.The problem is rather than giving people choice, Apple have taken a leaf out of the Daleks book obey without question! Rather than having Itunes (or sound jam as was), as an optional media organizer and player, its now a media streight jacket, indeed if the intention of soundjam was to give people choices and ease oorganization of their individual media collections it almost seems Itunes has the direct opposite purpose, by forcing people to organize their media only according to it! Even Windows mediaplayer was optional on its library and playlist functions, and used the basic file system as its cutout, but heck Apple actively obscure the file system or the ability to interact with media files. This iron fisted control even goes with the interface, sinse where as in the past youd have a bunch of options, Apple gives you none.Myself, I dont see why they dont have a streight out usb system like other mp3 players have, and leave all the extra itunes functions in other programs for those who want them.In fairness I dont think Apple are unique on this. Microsoft are doing the same with post xp windows, and indeed even outside the computer world we increasingly d ont have choices about what we buy where, how much we pay, or what choice we have over availability. This was quite an eye opener when i was in Egypt, sinse yes the culture of direct haggling and bartering is a bit strange to europeans, and does have its abusive and devicive side, but it was strange to find that in that environment as a customer I still had a degree of power and choice over what was paid. This is however why simply saying its not the latest version or thats your only option is no arguement with me, I just wish more people had the same attitude. I think thats awesome; it means your view of the files is still disjoint from the file system, but you still have the file system as one of several possible Views. Then use your PC to open a shortcut on your desktop or wherever, and in the Explorer view thus displayed, copy over your stuff. Now you use the disk app to play your music or whatever.For a cloud provider its even simpler: you copy stuff into a folder on your PC, and when you open the app, it will be there.But yes, nothing quite beats just loading up a drive and off you go, so perhaps another player is the answer. You only need iTunes if you want to use the native apps for non-Apple-store content except for Podcasts (the Podcasts app can get subscriptions from the cloud, including third-party ones) or music (but only if you purchase an iTunes Match subscription and use iTunes to upload content to Match). In all other cases some other app, including the many and various virtual network disk drives and/or cloud services, and ironically also iCloud Drive when apps begin to support the new iCloud entitlement, will allow you to launch media on your device that you manually copied to it either over the network/USB or via a cloud service. Perhaps you should be looking into one of these apps. Ditto with Itunes 11, heck, I only started using Itunes to transfer audio onto my Iphone anyway. Glad the Script you meant was _javascript_, and I appreciate the direct download, thanks for that. Im still on my laptop at the second, (which still has Itunes 11 on it), but will fix the program as soon as I get back to my desktop. I know sometimes I do come across like a nianderthol with technology, but it is not! that I am anti upgrades generally. I do suspect Ill be upgrading to Ios 8 in the future (Im just waiting a few versions until the vo bugs are worked out), and Ill likely be buying an Iphone 6 as I liked some of the feature list. Im actual ly surprised Itunes 12 was such an irritating change, (though in fairness Itunes never had the best interface), sinse usually with Apple there is some interface continuity, at least there has been on Ios, though obviously not in this case. If Apple werent so obviously intent on looking after their own skins, theydve developed a better protocol for transferring stuff to the device which made the media manager optional. iTunes 11.4 works with iPhone 6/6+ and still runs on XP, and yes those iPhones are a terrific upgrade, and actually worth the money, as opposed to iTunes which really isnt. iTunes interface works for me as of about version 10; in 11 they made some changes which could be reverted and it wasnt until you reverted that you realised how much better the old way was (something Apple never seems to consider when designing its software, for some reason). With iTunes 12 though, its purely bull, and theres no going back, and no obvious reason to go forward. However, it is (still) 100% accessible, and the new way is simply less robust and efficient. Not having a sidebar is good for me on Mac since I dont have t o interact with that to get to the things I need, and its still better than sidebarless iTunes 11, but it sucks badly for WinDoze users since they have to tab--arguably a problem with Windows, I might suggest, but its still irresponsible of Apple to have removed the sidebar. I went to download Itunes version 11.12 (in absense of 11.15, which was the most recent before the stupid 12.1), however when I downloaded the file it was a download.php script that I could not open. Last I remember all the Itunes installers have been standard exe files. have I missed something? Do you need an account on oldversion.com to download from them? Im fairly sure I got the right version of Itunes, ie, the latest version of v11 they had and not the one labeled 64 bit. I would urge you to consider upgrading to a newer OS at this point so you dont have to deal with the inconveniences of being abandoned, but weve had that discussion before. For now, to get you back into familiar territory, I downloaded iTunes 11.4 32-bit from iPhoneFirmware.com (which is quite script-heavy) and put it on S3. You can get it here. You might have to do some stuff to make this work; for instance you may have to uninstall all existing iTunes components and clear away any iTunes-related data files, preferences or folders.
