I hate this, and also haven't found an effective way of dealing with it. Talking to people in person horrifies me, so I try to avoid asking for help.

Unconventional methods can be some of the most useful. I suppose I'm just not comfortable with being that forthright; mostly by virtue of being human and not just because I'm blind. I guess it could be that simple, just turn around and ask for that easy

Personally I strike up a conversation. Usually works that the line gets held up behind people talking anyway, and then just follow whoever's in front of you.Unconventional? Yes. Effective? Oh yes
