Re: Reactions to action: Movies
Re: Reactions to action: Movies Im a huge action movie fan, but Im not as big into the run and gun type of action. I love hollywood action movies, the sound design in some of them is spectacular. But I also have a bit of a soft spot for a different kind of action. As a kid raised in a Chinese family I grew up on Kung Fu films, not just bruce lee but also some modern martial arts flicks that have some of the best brutal hand to hand action where its no guns, just people going at it up close and personal. Not only do I think there is more technicality in these fights, but some of these definitely have very good sound design.. to the point where I can form a very clear, but sometimes inaccurate, image of whats going on. Here are two of my favorites. the first takes place in the office of a local Hong Kong crime boss, and takes place between a cop and said boss. Starts out with a fast and furious exchange of punches and kicks, then moves in close for some mma style grappling. Dont watch the entire video unless you understand chinese... the main fighting stops after the lulaby starts playing, which is the bosss phone ringing. The second is a Chinese martial artist who faces off against ten Japanese karatekas using a little seen style of Kung Fu called Wing Chun which specializes in speed and brutality when used properly and man, the sounds in this one are cringeworthy to say the least! Breaking bones, punches to the face, even some very fast face and chest blows... and the best part is, none of this is faked... the fights are all done with coriography of course, but unlike a lot of hollywood where the actors learn stunts and use action doubles for fight scenes, chinese movies like this usually make use of actors who are also real life martial artists and whose career is spent working their kung fu and other martial arts skills into films and specialize in acting and martial arts together. Re: Reactions to action: Movies
Re: Reactions to action: Movies Hello,I love them. Godzilla 2014 was really good for sounds. The transformers movies have nice sound design too. I also enjoy Batman Begins and its sequels, the marvel series, wreck-it ralph, the lone rangers finale sequence, and most definitely Tron Legacy. Of course there are the usual hits like Star Wars and such for sound design, those lightsaber duels are very fun to listen to.Im sure there are many that Im missing, but those are what I can think of off the top of my head. Now, onto favorite sounds, very miner spoilers for movies follow so be warned.minerspoilersIn Godzilla, the initial reveal. The roar is well worth the wait. The transforming sounds in, well, transformers.Any lightsaber duel from Star Wars. The disc wars sequences, and light cycles, in Tron Legacy. The grid itself reacts to a few things too around the track, most notab ly, theres a ramp sequence that I really like with game-like sounds.Wreck-it Ralph: the sequences in heros duty come to mind. Im not sure if the climax had any actiony sounds, I think the final action scenes climaxes was more the music for me and the voice acting, but I cant really go into detail about that without spoiling it.Honorable mention for a very recent film: big hero six. Very nice. The music, the sound design, just, yes. Also, I highly recommend guardians of the galaxy. Ill just say this to get people interested: theres a sequence set to the song Cherry Bomb by the runaways and it fits so well. Absolutely superb. Re: Reactions to action: Movies Guardians Of The Galaxy is one of my all time favorites. My favorite sound ever from a movie was when Lockdown transformed into a car for the first time. Also, when Optimus Prime was first revealed in the same movie, Transformers: Age of Extinction. Reactions to action: Movies
Reactions to action: Movies Hello all. So, after playing a game today and hearing a really cool car crash sound, I thought about how awesome action movies and dramatized Sci-fi books are. Like is there anything then better then the whirring of the servo-motors in a robots arm as it raises its cannon? Then the sound of it cocking said cannon? Then the mechanical sound of it moving its arm to aim? Then, the best part... The shot. What Im really here to say is, what are your standpoints on action movies? Yeah yeah, I know some of you are gonna say, Theyre just explosions to music with no character development or plot. Thats fine, but please dont clog the topic full of it. This is meant to be a topic for action movie nerds and fanatics. Lets get it.
