The only problem with meis that google play music is now being shut down as post 19 said, annoying the livving shit out of me, as there was no problems with that app. it was even better than google play music IMO... but yeah. youtube music's interface is kind of a pain in the ass for me. the problem i am having is that i've added my brother to my family plan, but spotify requires you to have all your family members live in the same location, the same address if i am not mistaken. but the problem here is that me and my brother don't live in the same house any more. so that is what's keeping me away from spotify. i will rather go to apple music on android rather than be stuck up with that kind of service.

Re: Why should I use music streaming services

As far as Spotify vs Apple Music, a lot of it comes down to personal preference. Apple music integrates a lot better with iOS than Spotify does, and they now also have a web app and it can be used in iTunes if you like it. Personally I found the recommendation system not as good as Spotify's but you might like it. They share a lot of features in common, but they also have some slight differences. The same could be said for YouTube music, which also gives you the added benefit of no ads and background playback for the mobile YouTube app if you go for the premium package. I considered switching to it from Spotify, but unfortunately even though it also has a pretty good machine learning powered recommendation system there were a number of lesser known EDM artists that were on both Spotify and Apple but not YouTube leaving a number of my liked music out. YouTube's Sonos integration was also lacking, missing some really common controls like liking/disliking tracks or starting some of the AI playlists. With Google's previous music service, you could also use the official Google play music app to control Sonos, like you can with Spotify, but YouTube music never got this feature and Google keeps saying it'll be coming. It has been like this for over a year and that situation with missing features that were included with Google's previous service, promiced for this new one, but not delivered on yet, sums up YouTube music pretty well in a nutshell, all the while Google is shutting down Play Music forcing everyone into YouTube making a bunch of people annoyed.Tidal, it's a service which is promoted rediculously hard over here. They have partnerships with almost every ISP and mobile carrier in Poland, giving away 6 month service with almost any package while also making data transfer from Tidal free. The big selling point it has going for it is their Hi-Fi plan, which offers you losless streaming in Flac. Apart from that, the recommendation system was nothing to write home about last time I checked, it was pretty basic, but the music catalog was pretty decent. The far more serious problem with Tidal is that, saying it nicely, the accessibility is pretty bad. The website and desktop app was a pain to use, the iOS app was OK ish but from what I heard it later got some major regressions and I'm not sure what the state of that is now. If you want losless streaming, you'll definitely want to look at Deezer, which also offers Flac streaming with far nicer, more accessible apps and a decent recommendation system to boot, plus very good Siri, Google Assistant, Alexa and Sonos integration. They also have a shazam like feature in their mobile app so you can have it listen to your microphone to identify a song in the real world. Deezer is the service I got into streaming with, the only reasonI switcvhed is because my friends moved to Spotify and we wanted to keep sharing playlists. But it's also not a bad choice at all.

@Juliantheaudiogamer, I prefer Spotify. More users, better recommendations (in my opinion), quality and equalizer settings, more device and connectivity support, ETC. Hell, even the UI and design!Having said that, test-trial yourself, or compare the specs and features directly.@Meatbag, People have said it's better for rap and hip hop (because that's what it was made for), and I think there's a higher-tier subscription you can pay for, for a higher quality or something, but I guess it'd have a slightly smaller catalog?

Also, as a musician myself, I don't want to have to buy a song every time someone says "Hey, should we learn song X?"Also, if we have people over, they can play whatever they like at a party, and the people involved in making those tracks get paid, rather than just the creators in my music collection.I agree that streaming providers don't pay all that much, but they're damned convenient. It's the Uber VS. proper taxi firms argument I guess.

@thetechguy, While that's true, you still need to cough up the subscription for that. I'm on the fence about streaming services vs places like Bandcamp. I'd like to support content creators as much as I can, but as things stand now, I think it'd be less painful on the wallet if I payed every month for a streaming service.

Re: Why should I use music streaming services

I'm going to be the weird one here and say that Spotify, and the other music streaming services, kind of suck. You never actually own the music. If you are somewhere without internet, well, tough luck. If the service decides to remove an artist's work, tough luck, too. But, most importantly, the creators don't get much from it. The pay rates are ridiculously tiny, unless you are lucky enough to be one of the especially famous ones. It's convenient, without a doubt. But I still much prefer to actually buy the albums, generally from Bandcamp; I can't do it all at once, but I will have a nice collection eventually. Because I enjoy the music I listen to, and want to make sure the creators are able to make more of it.

Re: Why should I use music streaming services

Hi.I've been using Spotify for 3 months or so, and for me it's really greate. I love the fact that it allows you to make long, and I mean... Very very long, playlists like a radio. So if any song gets your attention, pull it in to any playlist of yours. Then if you wish download the damned thingy, and just trip or relax while music is being played and your favorite artists are being paid by your playbacks. Sure, artists could be better paid, but that's another time discussion. I'm an artist and composer myself and I can say that... Spotify is not enough. It does  not give me enough to buy food, but their service and support team are excellent and you can even suggest lots of stuff from their forum.

Re: Why should I use music streaming services

Slight correction: Siri does actually let you play from Spotify now. You have to specifically ask for it, but as long as you do it works.Compared to just playing music on YouTube, the quality will be considerably higher, 320KBPS MP3, Ogg or AAC depending on whether you go with Spotify, YouTube music or Apple music or even losless Flac on Deezer or Tidal. You'll also not get any ads, which can be especially annoying when you're on mobile where there isn't an easy way to block them. The artists will also actually get payed whenever you listen to a song, though how much they get payed, even before the label gets their cut could be much, much better than it is now but that's a discussion for another time. The services also give you some pretty cool features, like being able to search for other people's playlists, or make your own and work on them with friends. You can also follow your favorite artists, and get notified when they release something new. All the services also include a music recommendation system that will learn from your listening history. Spotify in particular is really good at it, and after a week of listening it should start offering you playlists with music they think you'll like which will often be very accurate. So a lot of it is just down to convenience. Being able to quickly find almost any song out there is really cool, and so is the recommendation system - which is what made me start using them. Of course, nothing is perfect, you don't actually own your music even if you download it for offline listening. Occasionally, you may find that a song will disappear from the site you're using as some licensing contract expires or gets transfered. And of course, if you stop paying, you'll lose access to all of your saved songs (though some services like Spotify or Deezer have free tiers that will still let you play things in lower quality and ads with some features disabled.

If you're paying for Spotify or whatever, then you don't get ads. Spotify is amazing in terms of the stuff it can play through: Google Assistant, Sonos gear... basically anything except when using Siri, because Apple's ethos on such things was written by a 5-year-old only child who wasn't breastfed often enough. Also, you probably get more perks, like being able to add music to playlists, the ability to download stuff for offline listening (great when traveling), and probably not much stuff if you're more bothered about not paying for music than you are about listening to it in an enjoyable and meaningful way haha.
