Just to clarify. If the logic board in the USB enclosure is dead, the drive is probably still usable in another enclosure or directly connected. But if the logic board on the drive itself is dead, nothing can access the drive. Ive heard that modern drives

Its possible the USB enclosure is bad. Remember, most external drives Ive seen are really just a standard drive inside a custom enclosure. Also, a chip or other electronic component on the drives logic board could have blown, in which case the drive itself

Try the drive on a different computer. If that computer freezes or otherwise doesnt see the drive, the drive is probably dead. If the drive or its enclosure has suffered a hardware failure, nothing you or anyone else could possibly do using any software ever

hi,I tried the drive on a mac. But the drive was not recognized. My question: how could the drive be dead? It spins up ok and doesnt make any wierd noises.
