Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
Hmmm you don't want to leave updates off all the time though. On the case of computers are not made the way there used to be, it depends on what you go for.A branded computer ie my toshiba is good but it can
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
I've noticed the exact same behavior with windows update, try turning updates off entirely and see if that resolves it. My svchost.exe was using about 1.25 gb of ram at one point before I turned updates off. Make sure
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
okay so update for everyoneseems the problem lay in the registry, or just the disc in generalas I reported earlier a combination of defrag and turning off some stuff got it so it was at least not maxed out any more

Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
Heat could be a very good explanation for major lag. Most CPU's reduce the clock frequency to prevent the computer from overheating completely, which of course results in a massive drop of performance. I had a laptop
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
so I don't know what I did, only thing that's changed in the last 24 hours is decreasing my startup load and a defrag using defraggler, but its no longer stuck at a hundred percent, seems to fluctuate between 65 and 90
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
Because of the process you mentioned, try to think back to what you may have installed recently that would be using allot of network resources, a server, an external IP manager like Hamachi, ETC, and if you can't think
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
Hello,I would recommend performing a disk cleanup apart from others. The disk cleanup feature cleans up unnecessary files that are filling in your harddisk space, and so there may be a lot of unneeded stuff there. The
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
@dd: svchost.exe is kind of a tricky one, as it's used to call dll files and ltos of different programs can use it. I'm not very sure what to recommend unfortunately.

Also check your event logs (type eventvwr.msc into the search or run box) and check for any warnings or errors. Under Custom Views you will see Administrative Events, they should all be listed there.

Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
Get a program like advance system optimizer. It's really accessible. with jaws and I've had issues like yours in the past but doing a clean up with this program at least once a month really helped. It cleans up
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
I have a feeling it has something to do with the services thing, installed drivers for bluetooth and USB headsets over the last couple days but I have no idea why that'd make things hang that muchcould it also
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
Well I'd firstly do a disk cleanup in admin mode and clear the windows update file s and a few other things.Next, I'd actually try to clear out the dust from the unit with come sort of compressed air, compresser
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
With a PC that old it could easily be a hardware issue, but trying to pinpoint the issue and fix it would require patience and possibly money. Of course, I'd honestly say that keeping it around that long is playing

Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
Hi,Try completely wiping the drive and installing a new copy of Windows. That will probably clear anything software related. I'm pretty sure it;s software. The problem with Windows is that you get viruses and when
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
It all comes down to the simple fact, most windows boxes last no more than 5 years before a noticeable decline in performance. I'd honestly recommend just selling the system maybe it'll go for around $300 or something
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
yeah that's what I think I might do, I'm planning to get a new computer hopefully soon, but until then I just need this one to cooperate with me lol so I'll try the compressor if I can find one, haven't tried registry
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
First of all, if your virus and malware scans found something, then a backup and reformat will be the best thing you could do. you see, is not what you do find that is the problem there, it is what you don't find. If I
need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
okay so here's the scoopas of recently, I'm not sure when exactly but my computer's started to slow down more and moreI haven't been doing much, but when I go into task manager and look at my CPU usage? 100 percent, high
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
Exactly how old is the machine? If 75% of the drive's free, the recycle bin's empty, the only other thing I'd suggest is clearing your browser cache as that can really accumulate big-time. Remember when you shut down
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
I'd empty your resycle bin, make sure there's not many things on your desk top, and try to clear up your computer. Try removing programs you aren't using, and back up files on an exturnal hardrive or flash drive. Also
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
the machine at last estimate is like 5 years old at least, possibly 6 seeing as I got it from someone else in the familyI would upgrade to an SSD, but currently do not have the funds available... high school grad life
Re: need help from someone who knows their way around computer issues
I've ran through most of those, yeahvirus scan picked up one thing that's been removed, bin's empty, computer's got 75 percent of space free so its not a cluttered hard drive
