Re: I'm hoping to check out android next week, any advice? @Chris Thankfully, that statement about issues with the screen reader not being able to be started at setup, is false. Re: I'm hoping to check out android next week, any advice? The only thing I can recommend is for you to purchase an unlocked phone directly from the manufacturer. This eliminates the need to wait for updates from your carrier. then again, you could always install a custom rom, but that is advanced. You may also wish to purchase a cheaper Android tablet if you simply want to test Android and the screen reader. I can't speak for Samsung devices, but I've heard they've been getting better and better. I'd personally go for stock devices from Google or the Motorola Moto phones such as the moto E or Moto G. Speaking of those, is it true that you can't enable TalkBack when you unbox them? If so, that is unacceptable! Re: I'm hoping to check out android next week, any advice? @BradTo turn on Voice Assistant from S8/Note 8 onwards, press "Volume-Up+Power," since they do not have a "physical" home button. As For the A/J-Line and S-Line before the S7, do a "triple-click-home" on the "home button. The acception is with "Verizon," as it uses "Talkback" by default, as discovered within the below podcast:https://iaccessibility.net/iacast-unbox … galaxy-s8/@GrryfSince Brad lives in the Uk, things indeed may be different than US models. For example, if reading the vision" section of the "accessibility" settings of the "J7-Perks" from Sprinthttp://eguides.sprint.com/support/eguid … tings.html, you'll see it says "Voice Assistant" in there, and not "talkback." This also applies to the "J3-Emerge" from Sprint as well. However, you are indeed correct that the "J7-Prime" from "T-Mobile":https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-35595, does indeed use "Talkback" and not "Voice Assistant." The same goes for the "J3-Prime." Re: I'm hoping to check out android next week, any advice? Hi,@Trenton +1 for the detailed post, however a small correction if I may.If you are wanting the easiest transition from IOS to Android, your best bet is to get either a Samsung Galaxy phone from either the S-Line, the A-Line,or the J-Line. All have a screen reader called "Voice Assistant"Unless the J line consists of something else or the device I am thinking of doesn't fall in the j line, all the phones in the J series in fact do not have Voice assistant speaking from personal experience here. The J7 prime 2017? for one.Grryf URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=329394#p329394 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: I'm hoping to check out android next week, any advice? Hi Trenton Goldshark.Do you own an android device?I think the Samsung device might be nice, however there is one issue.Turning on the screen reader. It says in the article that I need to scroll to settings and turn it on that way, but if I can't see, that's kind of impossible. What would you personally go with if you had to choose android? Samsung or other devices? Re: I'm hoping to check out android next week, any advice? Greetings! There are two ways to go about it:SamsungIf you are wanting the easiest transition from IOS to Android, your best bet is to get either a Samsung Galaxy phone from either the S-Line, the A-Line, or the J-Line. All have a screen reader called "Voice Assistant" (formally called "Galaxy Talkback,") and its gestures are based off of "VoiceOver" from Apple. You can find the list of gestures over at:https://mediaaccess.org.au/latest_news/ … nd-s6-edge, andhttps://www.androidcentral.com/how-use- … -galaxy-s7For audio demos of Voice Assistant/Galaxy Talkback, check out the following links:https://davidwoodbr.podbean.com/e/voice … alaxy-tab/https://coolblindtech.com/samsung-s6-ed … oid-users/https://coolblindtech.com/using-samsung … e-phablet/https://coolblindtech.com/galaxy-talkba … galaxy-s6/Other DevicesNon-Samsung devices (including "stock Android" ones,) use Google's screen reader simply called "Talkback." The gestures are a bit strange at first to get use to, though they can be changed to "non-angled" ones if needed. To learn more about Talkback, see:http://support.google.com/talkbackI hope the above info helps you out in your decision.
