I’m trying to make it to where I have less latency while playing from my midi keyboard. I don’t understand the buffer settings at all, and I don’t know which ones to adjust.

Re: Useful things to read before I get started with komplete kontrol

Far as artyiculations and such are concerned it really depends on how they're built into the instrument.  Some of the more notable string libs for instance allow you to control that kind of thing with some of the lower keys on the keyboard, while others are part of the parameters you change with the knobs.  You'll have to tinker around with that one, as I haven't gotten to everything... I'm still trying to wrap my head around select as it is.

Also, all the instruments I lode don’t seem to have any velocity sensitivity or round robins. Is that komplete start, or is there something I need to change?

Are there settings in reaper or the komplete kontrol Application itself I need to look at? i’ve tried loading instruments in both, with the same results. Re: Useful things to read before I get started with komplete kontrol

Lets see if I can help:1.  go to your options menu.2.  Under the plug-ins section there is one labeled Vst.  Tab into it.3.  Your VST Plug-in path edit field should look more or less like the following.  C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins;C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins;C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3;C:\Program Files\Native Instruments All of these are directories separated by semicolons.4.  Once you have NI set in that directory simply tab to the rescan button and wait a bit.5.  Tab to and activate the OK button and hopefully you'll be good to go.  If you're not ask further questions.

I foolishly took one look at the Settings panel, or rather the person helping me did and read it bak, I thought it looked all right. So I’m guessing there’s some thing that I did not set properly.Note I did this directly within the kontrol Application for this reason. In reaper when I click insert virtual instrument, and look through the list, there’s nothing from native instruments there. Just reapers default stuff from what I can see. Are there any specific settings I should try changing? And how can I get contact into reaper? Again thanks for the help.

If you throw that piece of paper away before copying the serial ...you are pretty much boned. NI won't give you a replacement ...have seen a number of people run into that.

Re: Useful things to read before I get started with komplete kontrol

Are you in fact saying your audio is clipping, or something else?  I'd need to hear what it is you're actually refering to, but if it is clipping, consider lowering the loudest track's volume and then using something to limit the final result.  Since many if not all of your libs/instruments will more than likely have different set volumes in comparison to one another its possible the only issue you're running into here is simply volume specific.  On the other hand, if its not a clip/distortion issue, perhaps you don't have enough processing power, which I suppose could be the case given that you stated it only seems to happen when you have a sizy amount of instruments going.

I believe that the a49 comes with Komplete Start. I bought my a61 in a bundle deal last July, where I was able to buy Komplete 12 for way less than its original asking price. This may be a question that can be answer based on people's experiences, but I'm using Logic instead of Reaper. Sometimes when I have a lot of tracks running, audio starts crackling. I am using a SteelSeries GameDac to plug into my Mac's speakers. Would that be more based on CPU throttling over anything else? It's also crackling on my MacBook Pro's soundcard using headphones plugged directly in.

Register your hardware and get two powerful synths, two meticulously sampled pianos, and more. Plus with MASCHINE Essentials, you’ll have all the tools you need to go from inspiration to finished track.Select on the other hand comes with 45 GB of content. I'm getting keyboard hopefully today so I’ll probably figure it out then.

I assume you mean other keyboards?  To my knowledge, komplete kontrol hardware does not come packaged with any instruments by default.  That is why libraries exist.  Purchasing the a-49 should have given you access to komplete12 select at the very least, unless you bundled it with something else.  If neither of these two are the case, then you'll have access to the starter eddition which has a fair amount to keep you busy until you can upgrade.

Re: Useful things to read before I get started with komplete kontrol

@24, again, I really don't know given my setup and the fact that I've never had to resort to using an internal soundcard.  the second question, however, can easily be answered.  You need no NVDa assistance to go through the browser.  Once all of your NI and IKomplete kontrol stuff is registered and up and running, you'll be able to launch reaper and, provided your reaper settings are not arguing with you, you can create a track, insert a virtual instrument into said track, and provided the track is armed for recording and that you have the monitor set, you'll be able  to then do the rest with your KK hardware.  As I stated previously, your default TTs voice will be used; if you're using windows ten that will probably be David unless your languages and localizations are not American and the like.  Anyway, you'll hit the browser button on your a49 and you'll be able to move through sections which will lead to subsections, which will lead to even more subsections, and all of them will allow you to specify very precisely what exactly it is you want.  Once you've selected an instrument, sample library or whatever, you can then hit a key on your a49 and you should hear the magic!I hope this helps, but don't wory about asking questions.  Helping is what I try to do best.  In all reality I'm sory for not being able to provide more info as I'm fairly new to this field myself.

Re: Useful things to read before I get started with komplete kontrol

Honestly,The Reaper Accessibility Wiki, while somewhat outdated in some respects, has quite a few resources on getting started with Reaper. A lot of them are audio-based, but some, like the Reaproducer ones, have show notes with the most important keystrokes accompanying them. That's a good starting point for the basics at least:)

I do apologize for asking so many questions, but I want to gather as much information as possible before the keyboard arrives as to be prepared before hand. But if this is something you or someone else can answer,  if I just keep them from playing all at once, would that help things? How much do I actually need nvda when going through instruments? I also wonder if my USB to headphone adapter is a sound card itself or just an adapter. Me thinks I'll need to go find out.

Re: Useful things to read before I get started with komplete kontrol

I would suggest getting something else.  As to what that something else is will depend on you and your budget and what you're willing to spend.  I use a Yamaha MG XU 10 input stereo mixer, but I dare say there are cheaper audio-interfaces and the like that'll do just fine.  You'll have to query someone else on this matter, but the real reason I'm making this suggestion is quite simply that I doubt any default internal soundcard is going to handle your screen reader, the output generated by your Komplete kontrol keyboard which will use your default TTS voice, and then the output required for you to play your instruments effectively and without massive amounts of lag.Obviously your milage may vary, and I speak from the perspective of someone who has never tried simply using my default soundcard for such matters, so please research before taking me up on all of the above.  I do try to be as informative as possible but am just as human as the next guy or gal who might come along.

Well its not free but theres a demo version, you only get like 2 kits though but I mean you could always grab presets off somebody for others, if thats possible, not sure about the limitations on that. There are kk presets as well though so you don't need to use OCR, thats what I was asking about.

I would be interested in adding to accessibility reviews of sample library’s in what ever way I can once I know what I'm doing. My focus on music library’s would be on those of an ethnic nature, such as ethno world, East west quantum leap ra, Forest Kingdom, among others, just as examples. Sample libraries in the world category are sometimes not covered as much and this might be especially true when it comes to accessibility reviews. I have not seen any for the libraries listed above plus others.

Re: Useful things to read before I get started with komplete kontrol

So I was in the market for a guitar sample library (I can't play guitar to save my life), and I decided to pick up Shreddage 3 HYDRA by Impact Soundworks. It's sooo worth it. Most of the needed parameters are programmed in NKS, though there's no way to change the effects that come with it, or stereo double it. Super worth the price though. Slightly off-topic, but has anyone tried any Cinesamples libraries, and can vouch for their accessibility? symphony Essentials honestly isn't cutting it for me for that, so I'm trying to look into different stuff. Not that I'm discounting the BBC Symphony Orchestra from Spitfire either, just looking for other stuff as CinePerc  is super well-regarded.

@an idiot, post 15, keep us informed if you can.  I'd certainly like to know what your experience was like, given I too am fairly new to this.  My personal view on it at present is that we're like the pioneers of what will hopefully become the new standard for blind and VI musicians, and perhaps to overall accessibility where music is concerned, given the name Komplete Kontrol.  If I can help pave the way for others who will follow, why not.

So for people who have Komplete 12 Ultimate, is it just me, or is the Symphony Essentials series honestly not that good compared to the quality of, say, Session Strings 2 Pro? The staccatos are really quiet for some reason. Are there any other sites besides KK access that review  accessibility that are updated frequently? Because the reviews are written by one person, a lot of companies that Iam considering I haven't seen reviews from. I'd love  if there was a link to that group that could be posted.

Re: Useful things to read before I get started with komplete kontrol

@an idiot, post 10, it is always best to check and see if anyone has done a review on it that focuses on the accessibility side of things.  You mentiond the KKAccess page, but this one is also worth checking out if you haven't already.  Sadly, there are some we're just going to have to dive into together and experience for what they are, then try to see if we can push for things to be fixed if at all possible.  One of the beautiful things I was looking forward to called Thrill, available through Komplete 12 Ultimate is still not as accessible as it could be, or so goes my understanding, but can still be useful. My personal opinion, and you must remember that this is only after a month of playing around with this stuff, is that I'm thankful it exists and is even useable, nay, more than useable, really.  I mean, we could go purchase a mega-expensive keyboard for well over a thousand dollars; some would honestly let you make a downpayment on a car if you so chose to, or we can go this route and at least if we're a few hundred dollars out we know it's not going to work, and that there more than likely is substitutes.

I’m going to go ahead and ask this here ahead of time. if a library, ethno world six by best service in this case, says that it works in contact and is nks ready, are there any other accessibility issues I might need to worry about. It's A giant purchase so I just want to make sure something doesn’t go to hell at the last moment. Also, having used it in the past, the reaper accessibility page is pretty helpful and stands as a contradiction to what Camlorn said earlier. I literally found it by just searching reaper accessibility a couple of months ago. It’s not perfect, and I feel like there could be more on music editing in general, but it's there and it teaches you stuff.

Oh blah!  For the love of all it seriously can be done!  Windows 10 isn't that much of a pile of crap.  I'm not going to write out a complete komplete tutorial on this post but I'll help you get started.1.  Once you receive a key that gives you access to all of your native software, go ahead and download native access.  You will need this to install all of your software-side stuff, instruments, loops, yada yada yada...  Install once downloaded, then launch.2.  Once launched you should be prompted to sign in with the email address you provided and used to register your software products and such.  I do not immediately recall how that is laid out and if you can just tab to and through it or not, but the worst case scenario is that you'll have to use NVDA-object nav and some OCR to navigate through or some variant of it depending on your screen reader of choice.3.  Once signed in, the window will change and, yet again you may need to use a bit of object nav to access parts of it.  All of the tabs are organized under a section called navigation items.  IN there you'll seee things like, add a serial, not installed, available updates, and finally, install.  I do not recall having to enter in my serial number when I first signed in but simply went to the not installed button and activated it.  I was then able to see a list of all the products that weren't installed and the button required to install them.  I don't remember how long it took to grab and install all of select which is what I got owing to my limited funds, but I know it was no less than an hour, so you're best leaving this for a moment in time when you know you won't be needing the machine in question, such as when you go to sleep?  I dunno.  I sat around and did a lot of thumb twiddling.  NA is pretty good about selecting defaults for your instruments and such, so I'd leave the paths alone unless you have a seriously good reason to go about messing with them, such as another SSD you need to install to, which honestly isn't a bad idea, or another larger drive you would rather the products be temporarily downloaded to before install.  For the sake of this small, thing, we'll just say C:\Program Files\Native Instruments and be done with it.4.  If you're following the instructions under this section it is assumed everything from 1 to 3 has completed successfully.  i suggest browsing C:\Program Files\Native Instruments or whatever other directory you may have chosen if you decided to opt out of the smartness of Native access before proceeding.5.  Make sure your A-49 is connected to your PC via the cord provided.6.  Launch Komplete kontrol; it should be on your desktop.  Give it some time as it has to figure out what you've installed, where it is and how to use it.  It does not hurt to hit NVDA plus R to use windows 10 OCR here and check things out from time to time.  This process can yet again, take you a fair amount of time depending on your purchases.7. when hitting NVDA+R it is worth checking to see if you are receiving any messages to update the firmware to your KK hardware.  Don't see a button, you say?  All you're seeing is words that seem like words of acknowledgement and consent but no real way to click them?  No problem, hit enter on said words and NVDA should act as it always does when confronted by visible buttons and the like.  The idea here is that any OK or yes or such button may not appear as a button but simply a word.8.  the final thing that will happen is that you may receive a tutorial that you cannot really gain much from owing to how inaccessible it generally is.  Do whatever you must to dismiss it and get on with your life.  Again, a bit of OCR may be necessary.9.  Close the KK software.  You'll not be using it for much else as it is generally best to use everything you now have at your fingertips inside a DAW.10.  Configure reaper as necessary.  this means you must figure out precisely what you need as far as mixer/audio-interface and sound system is concerned.  As I don't know precisely what you have I can't really help you here, but it would suffice to say that you need a buffer size that will give you as little latency as possible.  If you can, do yourself a favor right off the bat and see if your soundcard/interface/whatever you're using to manage audio has an ASIO driver.  Again, as I know not what you have this part is one I can't really help you with. The rest to follow, but I'd like to get you through all of this first, and since, as I understand it, you don't have your keyboard yet I'd feel rather foolish backtracking and trying to answer questions you don't already have and or haven't already posed.  Sadly, the only other suggestion I can give you at present is that since you're going to use KK with reaper, you should read the reaper accessibility page.  There is a ton there that may seem slightly hidden and may require you to put it all together

Re: Useful things to read before I get started with komplete kontrol

@3Reaper works fine.  Trying to learn Reaper ends terribly unless you put in very significant amounts of time because there's no good resources and what does exist is impossible to find/not updated/"join this specific dropbox folder"/all of the above.I was able to teach myself digital signal processing from first principles without sighted help, can learn new programming languages in literally a day, learning is sort of my superpower.  But while I know some reaper and could learn more, I can't do it quickly.  Which really should say something.

Re: Useful things to read before I get started with komplete kontrol

The only Mac I have already has logic installed. Thing is, it’s a 128 GB machine, with only 4 GB of RAM. Most of its space is already taken up by logic instruments. It's kind of old as well. My windows has 8 gb and 256 gb.

Re: Useful things to read before I get started with komplete kontrol

Well, first off if you can help it, get a mac and logic. It works far better with Komplete Kontrol. Second, get in the dropbox folder and whatsapp group, as well as the whatsapp group for the daw you choose to use. Then look up Andre Louis's video on what to install first.

Re: Useful things to read before I get started with komplete kontrol

yeah so the big problem with Reaper is that this doesn't exist.  I wish it did.  I keep telling myself that I'll learn it and start composing music (I play reasonably) but getting to the point where it's fun and you're not going through the giant searchable keystroke list takes  a hell of a long time.
