Nformdsam, You won't be able to find information on your ancestor in Sao Miguel, until you find his birth date (or approximate) and freguesia (village) on Sao Miguel. Immigration information helps too, as others have suggested. If you don't have his freguesia, you'll need to do a lot of paper

Neil, I'm not sure of the name but it is Maria da not de. If it is a religious name as Resendes it is not a Surname but a middle name. Women in this time period usually did not have a Surname listed but just the religious. Do not put the name Resendes in the Surname field of our genealogy

Interesting my great grandfather was from Bretanha, He was living at 49 Pitman Street in 1927 when he died. Faria and Son Funeral home was at one time owned by the husband of my great aunt Anthony Faria. George Pacheco has done extensive research in Bretanha and might have some information.
