Try Capelas or Ribeira Grande. Ana de Benevides is from Calhetas which was
then part of the freguesia of Rabo de Peixe. And I notice the godparents
are from Pico de Pedra, which is a very small village just north of, and in
between Rabo de Peixe and Calhetas.

I have those very people in my files. Mamie Vincent sent my family some
postcards around 1918. I have a photo I think is her. Her father was
married three times so there is a large tree . The family is Vicente
Ambrosio from Cedros , Flores.

Yes on the dates.
I have only heard of one other case of 2 living boys with the same name. I
believe it was Rick Pimentel who had it.
I'd double check though and make sure the priest didn't have too much vinho
and put the death note on the wrong José. Cheri

Our FHC is getting rid of several books, one of which is Births of Merced
Cnty CA 1873--1912. There are many Portuguese names listed. I would be
happy to check for you (there is a nice index in the back) Listed is
child's name, date of birth, father, mother (maiden name) and birthplace of
parent.
