Your husband can do the mtDNA test. Mitochondria are passed down from a
mother to ALL her children, but only the female children grow up to be moms
to pass it down.
So your husband has is mom's mtDNA and he can take the test to trace his
mother's mother's mother's line (bottom of his pedigree

I would like to add to that if you have older members in the family be sure
to test them now. My husband has traced his paternal line with a Y-DNA and
also did FF. However, there is no living female in his family for her to
do an mtDNA to follow his maternal line. He had only one

Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) had reduced its shipping through Friday, December
15th. I *think* it's $9.95 USD instead of the regular $12.95. U.S.
residents have the return postage paid.
