Through one of my Sao Miguel Island records, I found that an ancestor was 'ausente' (away) in Brazil at the time of his grandsons baptism in 1866. Seems there are no passport records earlier than 1875 for Ponta Delgada. I see that passport records go back farther for Horta and Angra do
