Sam….do you ever look at the NEPS site? It would be a good way for you to check
on this line…..Looks like the name is Leal
http://www.ghp.ics.uminho.pt/geneweb/gwd.exe?b=pedromiguel=pt=NG=Francisco+Jose+Leal=PN
I’m thinking the bride’s father might be Francisco Jose (or as you suggest Joao
de) Lial??….I’ve seen that spelling for Leal.

Celeste, I too have visited and have relatives from Ligares! Perhaps we could
explore any possible connections.
My great-grandfather is buried in their small cemetery by the church. Many are
in unmarked graves but his had his picture included.
I also have a branch in Peredo, a small village
Thanks Margaret!!!

Terri, I've seen a few in my searches but not many. I don't want to
discourage you but it may be a fruitless search.

Through one of my Sao Miguel Island records, I found that an ancestor was
'ausente' (away) in Brazil at the time of his grandsons baptism in
1866. Seems there are no passport records earlier than 1875 for Ponta
Delgada. I see that passport records go back farther for Horta and Angra

Antonio Francisco da Costa?? I don't know names in Sao Miguel so it's a big

Any help with the bride’s parent’s names would be much appreciated. I’ve got
the groom and his parent’s names as well as the bride’s name but; not feeling
so sure on the groom’s parent’s names.
Small bit on previous page but; the body of it and the part I’m trying to
figure out is on the top
Ok I found the right Jose born in Nordistinho the name is Maria Pacheco. I
then found a grandchild to verify the name. So Cheri you get an “atta girl”
for guessing too much vinho.

Holly, my maternal grandfather was born in a very small village, Ligares, that
is in
Tras-os-Montes. The location is as Cheri posted. What I did was found a wall
size map of the mainland of Portugal and that is the only place I could find
Ligares. There are a lot of very small villages in
I am afraid I am going to have to go to Sao Pedro records and look for a birth
of a Jose or perhaps the parents’ marriage. L Thanks for trying.

He needs the MOTHER of Jose de Medeiros. It's a Maria Something. The "f" in
the line above her name is messing with her 2nd name.

Hi Holly,
That's the mainland. Tras-os-Montes is probably somewhat like an American
county, in the northeast corner of Portugal, next to Spain. The smaller
location that you mention, I don't know anything about them.

birth. Trying to pinpoint exactly where and would like to know if these
locations that I believe are on are the mainland are part of the azores.
Boticas, Alturas Vilarinho Seco, Tras-os Montes, Portugal
