Great information, Rick.
I will mention if you drive to the State Archives that the whole area by
the JFK Library and Archives is under construction - I drove right past it
a few weeks ago and had to turn around and park. I was looking for
information on the Irish side of my family and they
It must be a wild guess. There is no mistake he wrote novanta when you look at
the second line where he wrote novecentos.

Apparently, the Archive in Ponta Delgada did not give me the correct
information on their holdings. George Pacheco, a native speaker, got the
following information.
Concelho de Ponta Delgada
Marriages up to 1922
Obits up to 1922
Concelho da Lagoa
Marriages up to 1939
Obits up to 1969

Cheri; Thanks a lot for translating this for me. I think you’re right about

I think the Priest made a mistake and then wrote over it with a 'nov' so,
noventa e quatro, 94.

I would go with Noventa quatro anos. I wonder why she was named Antonia de
Arruda. I didn't see any Arruda in her ancestry. Maybe she took on her
husbands name.

How old is Antonia
How old is Antonia d'Arruda (#10 on the left)? 74 94 or 64. If I blink, it
changes. I tried the magnifier too:

I know that it can be changed but that's not the point. The point is that
they are not following genealogical procedures in the *first *place, you
should not have to change any settings to get it correct! Beginners are
starting off wrong and they are not being taught the right way and it is

Rosemarie,
I talked to MyHeritage at Jamboree. They have a setting to change what you
describe. It's their default (kinda dumb, if you ask me). But it can be

When we have new people come into the FHC, that is the first thing we try
and teach, how to enter the dates! The next thing is that women are *always*
listed by their maiden name! This is why MyHeritage is so frustrating, that
they are *not *following genealogical format by listing a woman by her
Rick P,
Genealogy format for dates is day, month, year (4 digits). It's in every
genealogy book I've read and taught in genealogy classes. Also, they tell
you to use day, month, year when you go to a FHC. When I got into
genealogy, I groaned, but I am completely used to it!

I see what you mean. In August of the same year 10 month old Maria, surname
of father Medeiros Braga, died in the same place.

Hello Maria,
Entering your source is one of the most important things you can do yet many
people do not do it. Genealogy programs have a means of entering sources and
from what I have seen there are differences in formats and information.
If I were to enter the source of information I got from
RICK: that's great information and THANK YOU for recapping it in this email.
(I didn't see it before today.).
The last couple of weeks I've been researching a lot in New Bedford and
Boston and even found ancestors in Providence. (Great new discoveries.).
