I believe the Azores Express operated by TAP operates the only direct
flights to the Azores from the US. I believe Boston to Sao Miguel is
operated year-round, but check the Azores Express website.

Carlos,
Unfortunately I don't have a Manoel Gonçalves in my line that I am aware
of. Sorry! I have just started doing my family history and so I haven't
really branched off of the main line yet. If I come across a Manoel
Gonçalves or de Souza I will let you know. Hopefully someone else on the
Very good to know!
Debbie, what cruise operator did your cousin use there in the Azores? Was
it a good experience for them?

My family name is Jorge (George now) and have some ancestors from Flores,
but they left Flores for Faial around 1720s as near I can tell. But,
perhaps we are distantly related further back along the line (a good chance

Thanks for the info.

there is no Christopher but there is a Custodio. All the other children
have the same names except for that one, so I was

I do use an Apple, so if anyone knows of a really good genealogy program for

Thank you so much! Just from that I was able to find a further two
generations beyond what we knew and also that we have the addition of de

The names that I have on my line from Cedros are:
Manuel Pereira George
Jose Pereira
Thanks all, for your prompt replies and advice. I am trying to get together
this genealogy in advance of a trip to the Azores to take me dad to see
where his ancestors are from. I think that just being there will provide a
lot of personal insight into my ancestors.
I will look into Reunion, but

Hello all,
I am trying to put together my dad's family history and would really
appreciate some pointers on how to get started. I haven't ever done
genealogy before, and I don't speak Portuguese; so I am a bit nervous about
this whole endeavor. But I am really excited to see what I can find.
