This is an excerpt from the public library on what info is needed when
ordering a certificate. I have all of it, including the parish and date of
birth, except the parents, which, together with the grandparents, is what
I'm trying to find out.

Thank you all for your responses. I'll try to see what I can accomplish at
the archive. It would be great if the CCA would put more years online.

Do you have any ideas, João Ventura?

Interesting. They used to transfer books over to the archive in years
divisible by 5: 2005, 2010, 2015. So they'd get 5 years worth of books. Now
it's yearly? I haven't been over there in many years to find out.
Here's the email for the archive in Ponta Delgada:

All years up to 1917 will be at the Public Library.
We should be contacting CCA to inquire when will they be bringing the parishes
up to date in conformance with the 100 year rule? If enough of us do this they
may give it consideration.

The Ponta Delgada archive is a pain. Many of the freguesias online end
around 1905 or so. They should now have the books up to 1910. Maybe 1915.
You should contact the archive for a 1908 record. See if their email
address is on their web site. I'll look for it when I get home, unless

Thank you Margaret. Any idea about the years in between 1905 and 1909? I
need 1908.

That's because the years 1909 to 1916 have been transferred to the Public
Library. You will need to order in writing and include the cost. It's
only a few cents for a copy but if you want it stamped/certified it will
cost around E$20
You can also call them to find out more. Here's the link for
Parish records in Furnas end at 1905. When I entered the year in the field
on the ordering page on Portal do Cidadão it gave me a pop up error message
saying that the year entered had to be 1917 or greater.

Doesn't Civil Registration start with the year 1911? I know when we were on
the islands that was the date we had to get from the Civil Registration
offices.

If it is 1908 it is likely on line and you can look it up yourself.

2. Must know parents names, which is one thing I'm trying to obtain.
Oh well.

Yes, I have dual citizenship and have my Portuguese ID card. I wasn't sure
if you could order documents which are not your immediate family. I'll
give it try. Just have to figure out how to navigate that site. I ordered

Not sure of the years it covers. Also, I seem to remember that you need to
be a Portuguese citizen to obtain a record.

How does one go about ordering records from the Portuguese Civil Registry?
Online or snail mail?
