Hello Eric, Thanks. I had only seen the 1859 entry but not the others. That is an interesting observation. So the thinking would be that he added a c because there was also another of the same name. The 1859 and 1880 census do not show the c but the 1870 does. He is noted twice in the

The Francisco Gomes book, Casais das Flores e do Corvo, is available in Kindle format. It is an abstract of marriages on Flores and Corvo. It is in Portuguese but because it is typescript it is much easier to read. It is arranged by parishes and is alpha by groom's first name within the parish.

I have the Casais das Flores e do Corvo book, and have searched it for clues. There's not anything jumping out as a clue here. The name Nicholas C Anthony may have been Nicolau Antonio. The C may have been most likely for Caetano, maybe Coelho. So, Nicolau Caetano Antonio? There is also a
