Ginnie, Before the women's rights passed in the 1920s, any American woman who married an alien became an alien. That is why you see her as an alien on the 1920 U.S. Census. Your husband's ancestor most likely came over as Jose. I don't know the Portuguese spelling for Vincent...maybe Vincente?

Hi, I found a Rosa Viera born in Somerset in Nov. (no day,) 1894. She is the daughter of Antone Viera and Mary Viera. He is born in the Western Isles and she in Somerset. He is a farmer. I also found a William Viera born in Dighton, although his parents are living in Somerset and the birth
