Marylin is right. I checked on the current policy for Family History
Centers *today* at LDS FHC Support and they verified that certain records

I'm at the FHC tonight and tried to access the digitized microfilm records.
No go. If an LDS member is here they can access for me and get into the
database. So it seems that is the only way to access. If there is something
on the CCA that is hard to read you may want to try and go to your local
Marilyn,
When I was in SLC last year I spoke with one of the head people on the
International Floor and that is how she explained it to me. So, I will see
today if it is still the same but I believe that it is so. I think the
problem comes with the original permissions granted for the microfilming
If I remember right, the restrictions are put on by the owners of the
records. The LDS church has been granted permission for its members to view
the records. Thus the need for an LDS login.

I'm going to try her suggestions tomorrow when I'm at the FHC to work. I
know that I have tried it before and couldn't get into the database. Also,
the woman I spoke with at Salt Lake City Family History Library also told
me that I couldn't get into the database, only those with an LDS
membership.

Elaine,
I subscribe to the full plan of MyHeritage. There are many church records
from other countries available on the drop down list under the research
field in the menu, but I do not see any from the Azores. Just letting you
know I looked.

I started on My Heritage about 7 months ago and have not found any Azores
records so far. On the old handwriten records, I downloaded Photoshop Exress
which lets you make abjustments to the JPEG file to make the records readable.

Great idea on the plastic, Rosemarie - I'll have to see if I can find one
to try.
Thanks for the info, Bill - from my initial searches, it looked like all I
was finding was mainland Portugal, but you post confirms what I suspected.

I joined my heritage a few months ago. They do have some Portuguese
records that are indexed, but I do not believe any are from the Azores. In
their catalog they list them as Portugal Births, 1570 - 1910; Portugal
Marriages, 1670 - 1910; and Portugal Deaths, 1640 - 1910. I have not seen

Elaine,
You might try a blue or yellow plastic page held up to the screen. I know
it works on the microfilm and I've used it on the digital copies too. There
is something about the contrasting color that helps bring some of the
writing in to clearer focus.

Hi Rosemarie,
Thanks, that's good to know. I've been scanning the CCA files, and
wished there was a contrast control to make those faded records easier to
read. If I could read them better, I'd start keeping a log of who is on
what pages to make an index for people so it would be easier
Elaine,
The Portuguese baptism, marriage and death records are digitized and
available on FamilySearch.org. They must be accessed at a Family History
Center or Salt Lake, the problem is that you cannot access them without an
LDS member's access code. So, they are there but you must have the LDS
Personally, I know the Azorean government has them for free on the CCA, so
I don't look for them anywhere else. They may eventually show up on
FamilySearch. Cheri

I was at the Celtic Connections genealogy conference in MA (for the
non-Portuguese side of the family) this past weekend, and one of the
vendors who did research told me that it was possible to search the Azores
church records on Myheritage. Has anyone tried looking there for
information, and
