Madeiros sounds like it should be a corruption of the surname
Medeiros. Madeira is a different archipelago. It's not part of the
Azores. Maybe someone else has another idea for that place name.

Madeiros is a variation on Medeiros. A large portion of my grandmother's side
of the family do spell their surname with an a while my grandmother and her
parents stayed with the traditional spelling.
