I think it says Ilha de Lanai, Archipelago Sanduiche (Lanai Island, Hawaii)
and that he is a resident of Pico de Pedra.

I guess someone didn't like Hawaii and moved their family back to Sao
Miguel.

Hi Bob L,
I don't know what you mean by the date. The records are written in day
month year. Since that's the genealogy standard, we should follow that :)
Manuel was born 1 pm on 5 July 1872 (misspelled). Son of Silvestre de
Mendonça Machado and Anna da Incarnação. Married in this freguesia.
That was a big and dangerous move back then. His marriage record falls
just 2 months beyond the online records which end in March, 1911. Have to
figure out how to get his parent's names.

Cameron,
You need to do more than reference the trees on Ancestry or My Heritage or
Family Search or CITCEM or, or, or. I've seen some pretty glaring mistakes
(not only Portuguese, but even American research). So be sure to pull the
records from the CCA.
Most of Shirley's work was done B.C.
Thanks so much Cheri and Bill. It's my first margin note with a Portuguese
native of Hawaii.

Thanks Cheri. Looks promising, and Pico de Pedra was where he was
residing. The family was almost certainly from there. I'll contact Mel
this weekend.

Next page: archipelago de Sandwich and living in the freguesia of Pico de

So the groom is from Hawaii, as Lanai is one of the Hawaiian Islands. The
old name for them was the Sandwich Islands. Cheri

Cheri; You sent this out some time ago but; I wanted to thank you. I have

We're going to try to follow it and see if we find a son José.

Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) extended their Valentine Day sale through Sunday,
February 18th, at 11:59pm CST. Family Finder is on sale for $59 USD. Some
bundles are on sale as well (Y-DNA with Family Finder or mtDNA with Family

Gonçalo,
That's great. Be sure to join those kits you mentioned to the Azores DNA
Project. You want to have a wide net for all possibilities.
Here are the join instructions:
Log into the FTDNA page with the kit number and password.

Thanks for all the help! If she is indeed from Sao Roque, where exactly is
that?
In the baptism record for Candida, it looks like it lists her grand
parents. Can anyone help me with the names and where they are from? It
looks like everyone is from somewhere else and I can't make any of it out.
Sean A,
The part of the sentence that contains Sao Roque says "of the freguesia of
Sao Roque in the place of Rosto do Cao."
Use the Azores GenWeb for the map:
http://www.worldgenweb.org/azrwgw/maps-churches-and-villages/sao-miguel/
The words "Sao Roque" appear above the words "Ponta Degada."
Which one of Prudenciana's children do you descend from? My husband descends
from Antonio Garcia da Rosa.
I have ten kids for Prudenciana. How many do you have?

Here is the marriage of Candida's parents. This agrees with Candida's
marriage that her mother Maria da Conceição is from São Roque (Rosto de
Cão). Candida's Rabo de Peixe baptismal record that says her mother is
from "deste freguesia" must be incorrect.
