Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help with marriage reocrd - Conceicao, Ribeira Grande, SM

2014-11-09 Thread Cheri Mello
Groom Antonio is the son of Alferes Antonio do Rego (alferes is military
ranking) and it looks like Maria Luis do Nascimento.

Bride Maria is the daughter of Niculas (shouldn't that be Nicolau?) da
Costa Carneiro and Maria de Sam Miguel.

NOTE: Enter mother of the bride as Maria de Sao Miguel, with modern
spelling and put the Sam stuff in your notes. Same goes for the
Niculas/Nicolau thing, once someone clears that up. I've never seen
Niculas, but that's what the record says.

I know that the Costa Carneiros were around the Ponta Garca area. Did they
originate from there or from Ribeira Grande? I don't have any direct Costa
Carneiro ancestors but have siblings of my ancestors who married into that
family.

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Jeronimno Ignacio Pacheco (de Mello) and Ignacio
Pacheo (de Mello) - Matriz da Esrela, Ribeira Grande

I'm curious as to whether anyone in the group might have the families of
Jeronimo Ignacio Pacheco (de Mello) or his father Ignacio Pacheco (de Mello)
their databases?? Below is the only information that I have on the two of them:

Ignacio Pacheco was married to Roza Jacinta who died before February 25, 1805
(Ignacio married again on that date to Joanna Roza aged 27, he was aged 63 -
according to the marriage record Matriz da Estrela, Image #94, right side).

Ignacio and Roza Jacinta are named as paternal grandparents in the baptism of
Francisco (Pacheco de Mello) son of Jeronimo Pacheco de Mello,
(http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-ESTRELA-B-1821-1824/SMG-RG-ESTRELA-B-1821-1824_item1/P108.html).

Jeronimo Pacheco de Mello was married to Roza Jacinta (born 3 January 1779, a
daughter of Manoel Jose Cabral (Cabral de Mello on his marriage record
November 30, 1777) and Jacinta Roza Caetana.. I know from the birth record of
Jeronimo and Roza's grandson Francisco Pacheco (the 2nd one) de Mello that
Jeronimo was deceased (Francisco was born February 1853; Rabo de Peixe, (Image
#60 left side),

The main problem that I am having is that I can find no marriage records (yet)
for either Jeronimo and Roza Jacinta NOR for his parents Ignacio Pacheco (de
Mello according to 2nd marriage) and Roza Jacinta. I'm going to go through
them (marriage's) again for about the 3rd /4th time and see if anything turns
up (wish there was in index of the marriages like there is of the
baptisms.sigh).

Just need to sound of the frustration of looking for these two.grr

Any help/ideas/suggestions appreciated!

2014-11-09 Thread Decio Medeiros via Gmail
Hi John Miranda Raposo,

Search the internet I found this message:

https://www.mail-archive.com/azores@googlegroups.com/msg05202.html

In this old message, dated 14 jan 2010, you mentioned:

* Manuel Romeiro Velho, capt., married to Maria Velho de Melo.

Would you please check your source (I think is Rodrigo Rodrigues) to see if
there is a second marriage for this Manuel Romeiro Velho.

If positive, please inform the name of his second wife and their children.

Best regards,

Decio Medeiros

P.S.: My interest is to discover the ancestors of Manoel da Costa Cabral,
which may be (or not) a son of this Manuel Romeiro Velho.

The marriage record which I believe is for Luis do Rego and Anna Maria is the
left side of the link
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-ESTRELA-C-1812-1828/SMG-RG-ESTRELA-C-1812-1828_item1/P8.html
The Anna Maria’s name may have evolved over the years from Anna Perpetua Rosa.

This is about as far back on this family as I have gone but this record says
they are all from NS Estrela only a more complete study of this family would
show that.

I would also note the father of Luis is Francisco Moniz so it is possible he
took his family name from his mother’s side.

*Subject:* [AZORES-Genealogy] Jeronimno Ignacio Pacheco (de Mello) and
Ignacio Pacheo (de Mello) - Matriz da Esrela, Ribeira Grande

I'm curious as to whether anyone in the group might have the families of
Jeronimo Ignacio Pacheco (de Mello) or his father Ignacio Pacheco (de
Mello) their databases?? Below is the only information that I have on the
 two of them:

Ignacio Pacheco was married to Roza Jacinta who died before February 25,
1805 (Ignacio married again on that date to Joanna Roza aged 27, he was
aged 63 - according to the marriage record Matriz da Estrela, Image #94,
 right side).

Ignacio and Roza Jacinta are named as paternal grandparents in the baptism
of Francisco (Pacheco de Mello) son of Jeronimo Pacheco de Mello, (
 http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-ESTRELA-B-1821-1824/SMG-RG-ESTRELA-B-1821-1824_item1/P108.html).

Jeronimo Pacheco de Mello was married to Roza Jacinta (born 3 January
1779, a daughter of Manoel Jose Cabral (Cabral de Mello on his marriage
record November 30, 1777) and Jacinta Roza Caetana.. I know from the birth
record of Jeronimo and Roza's grandson Francisco Pacheco (the 2nd one) de
Mello that Jeronimo was deceased (Francisco was born February 1853; Rabo de
 Peixe, (Image #60 left side),

The main problem that I am having is that I can find no marriage records
(yet) for either Jeronimo and Roza Jacinta NOR for his parents Ignacio
Pacheco (de Mello according to 2nd marriage) and Roza Jacinta. I'm going
to go through them (marriage's) again for about the 3rd /4th time and see
if anything turns up (wish there was in index of the marriages like there
 is of the baptisms.sigh).

Just need to sound of the frustration of looking for these
 two.grr

 Any help/ideas/suggestions appreciated!

Dear Mr. Medeiros:

The source is Rodrigo Rodrigues:

CAPÍTULO 33.º: DA DESCENDÊNCIA
DE FERNÃO VELHO: § 8.º N.º6.

No other spouse is mentioned, only the one wife and one child. I hope this
helps. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Hi John Miranda Raposo,

In this old message, dated 14 jan 2010, you mentioned:

* Manuel Romeiro Velho, capt., married to Maria Velho de Melo.

Would you please check your source (I think is Rodrigo Rodrigues) to see if
there is a second marriage for this Manuel Romeiro Velho.

If positive, please inform the name of his second wife and their children.

Best regards,

P.S.: My interest is to discover the ancestors of Manoel da Costa Cabral,
which may be (or not) a son of this Manuel Romeiro Velho.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Ships manifest from Porto, Portugal to Brazil around October 1911

2014-11-09 Thread Carolyn M

Roberto,

Thank you for that information. It would be very helpful to me if I could
find out the name of the ship that Vitorino and his family took to Brazil
in October 1911. I would think there would be a database somewhere of
ships and their routes with dates included.

But could I search on these data bases that you suggested by a specific
date, since I know that already?

The archives in Brazil are still being indexed. But I tried some times
read the list by myself on a specific boat and use the search function
based on names. Archives newer than 1896 or around looked to be indexed.
They are indexing it backwards. But given lot of names were written in the
wrong form on arrival, the name in the index might not be the name you are
 looking for.

Extra information. You must search the databases separately on port, Rio
de Janeiro, Santos (state of Sao Paulo), Recife, Salvador (Bahia) - I
believe these were the main ports to arrive.
By the year you are referring to, there were still portugueses earning
lands on south of Brazil (today Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul).
Independent of them moving to the south of Brazil, it was mandatory to stop
in the ports (Rio or Santos) and register and then move to the South (I
don' t know if this is your case).

If you imagine your family moved to the south of Brazil, let me know. I
have been in Porto Alegre some months ago and I could get the registers of
the portuguese families that got land there from 1876 on (mainly
Azoreans). None of such archives are in digital form and they are getting
destroyed in bad storage conditions. I am still trying to organize what I
 could get.

 Good luck,

 Roberto Velho.

My great-uncle left Porto bound for Brazil on or around October 1911, but
I don't know the name of the ship.

I also posted this to the Portuguese Genealogy Board, but I'm not sure it
ever got through. This is my first post, and I want to thank you all for
 being here!

Any information regarding the manifest would be greatly appreciated.

Hello group; I’m really having a hard time reading this one. Top, left side.
I’m hoping it is the baptism for Joao, son of Jose de Roza Jorge and Maria de
Jesus. Paternos: Manoel de Roza Jorge and Catherina Silveira and Maternos:
pai incognito and Maria Lourenco

I’m actually trying to locate the baptism of Francisco but; happened upon this
baptism of what would be my Francisco’s brother.

Any and all help is much appreciated, Sam in Camas, WA

Sam,

I'd put the URL in the body of the message so people can click on it. I
can already see it now...someone tries to copy and paste; the miss one
little letter at the beginning or end and they post to the list that URL
doesn't work.
