[AZORES-Genealogy] Confession Rolls for Sao Pedro and Sao Roque

2015-11-12 Thread Herb
Hello, the confession rolls for Sao Pedro and Sao Roque, Sao Miguel don't
appear on the CCA site. Are they available anywhere? Short of taking a trip to
Sao Miguel can I get them by writing to the churches or to the CCA. Also I'm
curious if I wrote to the Bibiloteca Publica and Archive if they would provide
me with a copy of a will or records of an estate.

Thanks

Herb

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Researching Sao Pedro church in Vila Franca (Sao Miguel island) in the 1700s?

2015-11-12 Thread Cheri Mello
Great! Did you collect all their kids and know who those kids married?

Do you remember how we are related to each other? I checked for your Gedcom
on FTDNA, but it's not up.

I see you match me and my dad with DNA on Chromosome 4, exact same start
and stop points (it's a little 6.52 cM block). It's small, so it's probably
fairly old. Also because all three of us share the same start and stop
points, it's a sticky segment. Shirley starts at the same start point, but
has 24 cMs!

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Melchior (Belchior) Coelho Borges and Ursula
Coelho - Terceira, Azores

I recently was able to extend my Terceira line a generation or two with help
of the Terceira marriage Index (thanks to all involved who worked on it btw),
and I came across some ancestors that I was hoping others might have some info
on, or a connection to. (I saw some old posts regarding them and how a few
people on the list were related)...

Melchior Coelho Borges My #3504 and Ursula Coelho/a My #3505 of Porto Judeu
were the parents of Ines Fernandes, who was one of my direct ancestors. She was
married to Manuel Nunes Pereira. I wanted to see if anyone had anything further
back than Melchior Coelho Borges and Ursula Coelho? I found something from a
post and someones genealogy page that stated the parents of Ursula Coelho were
Pedro Goncalves Linhares and Justa Coelho, okay and the parents of Melchior
Coelho Borges were Antonio Fernandes da Costa and Mecia Coelho, I have
different parents. however no sources were listed. I would like to look at the
actual sources if possible.

I scanned through a bit of the genealogias de Terceira by Coelho Borges, and
the Fenix Angrense by Manuel Luis Maldanado and found an Ursula Coelho who was
married to Melchior Coelho Borges. The parents of Urusula are listed as Gaspar
Goncalves Linhares and Justa Coelho. Are these the correct individuals? and if
so, is it Gaspar or Pedro Goncalves Linhares?

Any additional info would be greatly appreciated..what other sources are
there etc..?..since the church records do not go back that far in that
freguesia.

  Thanks,

  David

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Confession Rolls for Sao Pedro and Sao Roque

2015-11-12 Thread Cheri Mello
I don't think that the confession rolls were turned over, since they were
mainly for church use and did not record a vital event. I believe the CCA
has them only for a couple of freguesias and I don't believe there are
plans to obtain them. They are not vital records. :(

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Confession Rolls for Sao Pedro and Sao Roque

2015-11-12 Thread Cheri Mello
The confession rolls are at the church. I haven't heard anyone be
successful by writing to the churches. You will have to go there.

I think the wills are housed somewhere else, not at the CCA, but I'm not
100% sure. I remember being told that they are filed alphabetically under
the name of the notary or lawyer who filed the will. Hopefully you know
that name.
