Fernando,
Contact Kathy Cardoza directly. She's the webmaster of the Azores GenWeb
and she can advise as to the format she'd need it in to make it work
(Excel, etc). Kathy's email is kmacardoza at mac.com

Ok great! Does anyone else want to contribute. For the marriages we have
1705-1743 and 1743-1763. Of course we have the baptism as well. I’m ok at
deciphering records and I think it will take me a couple of weeks, so I does
take some time. But I think it will be very helpful and as Terri
I wanted to chime in here and say that I am currently working on the *Vila
Franca Matriz marriage records for 1763-1799* (since there already is an
index of names starting 1800-1900)
I currently have Apr 1763- July 1777 marriages done and will definitely
share with the group when its all
Thank you Cheri and JR - really helpful as I work through the family names!
I think I have additional records from Jeromymo’s grandfather Sebastiao Antonio
Pimentel. Would appreciate it if others can help confirm I have the names
correct.

Fernando,
As you know, there is a marriage index for Sao Miguel Arcanjo from
1800-1900. My suggestion would be to work backwards from that date (so
starting in 1799 and working backwards). The further back you go, the more
abbreviations are there and the more difficult it is to decipher. You may
In a previous post I found out that Terri Santos had transcribed and made
available an index of Sao Pedro in VF (which was helpful). I thought that
instead of going through the records over and over I should create an index and
hopefully the extra work up front would pay off after. Also once
Hello Josephine,
Naming practices and conventions varied in Portugal due to Historic and
Religous influences in Portugal. Perhaps some one will address your
question, but you may also find the explanation in the attached link, which
in my opinion, is not quite right but it does drive the idea
Hi Josephine,
I think I have a private email from you to answer as well. You emailed me
when I was at the Portuguese Genealogical Conference and Research Trip in
Salt Lake City. I'm home now and playing catch up in the online world as
well as my own world! LOL
You'll eventually get used to this
Hello Cheri,I thank you for your replies to my son, Don Miguel, with his
question regarding paternal great-grandparents. It shed valuable light and
before now, unknown, information. Going forward from Passport Registrations
and Portuguese Immigrants to Hawaii, Jacintho Miguel de Medeiros and
My bad. I (obviously) was thinking the other way.

Chromosome 23 is your sex chromosome that determines if you are a man or a
woman. A man inherits the Y from his dad and an X (in tact) from his mom. A
woman inherits 2 Xs. So this is why you are seeing a full X on the 23rd
chromosome.

Hello all:
I have a DNA question I hope someone with more knowledge can answer. Myself and
a few other family members tested with 23andMe. My oldest sister (who is
actually my half sister (different fathers)) and I recently discovered we have
a half brother. You guessed it, we all have
Hi all,
Just returned from the Salt Lake City Portuguese Conference. Had a ball
and I think that everyone that attended had results in finding family!
One of the nicest things about going is learning from others and I brought
up the question of the J. A. Freitas Library of San Leandro moving.
