I'm not sure if there are any specific traditions. Both sides of my family were
from the Azores and now I have two rosary beads from each side. My paternal
grandmother told me that she was leaving her rosary in my care. It was handed
down to the first born girl in the family and
I have my great-grandma's rosary beads. They are plastic and look like the
ones you give children that are color coded so you know which decade you
are in. They are well worn.
I don't think there are any traditions about passing them down. I wound up
with them because I wind up with everything
