Hmm, I see them from my side when I log on. Maybe a privacy setting for my

Manita's dad and Maria K are both counted in the "unknown" category.
Log into your DNA page
Left column: Click on Manage Personal Information
Click the Genealogy tab
Click the link that says Most Distant Ancestor.

The field is very limited. I'd use "c" for circa (and no period). Depending
on the length of the name, you may have to abbreviate parts of things.
Manuel de Mello b. 1688 Ribeira das Tainhas, Sao Miguel island won't fit.
I'd put Manuel de Mello b1888 RdTainhas, SMiguel island. You'll have to
play around with it.

The current count of the 14 people who claim their strict maternal ancestor
came from the Azores and are in Haplogroup V:
No location listed: 5
Flores: 2
Sao Miguel: 3
Santa Maria: 4

However, this is not a true random sample. It's people who chose to test
for genealogical purposes.

My mtdna is V also. My mother was from São Miguel and my earliest direct female
ancestor that I have found is from Sao Miguel, possibly Agua de Pau.

Hi David,

I remember seeing a small % on my uncle John Cardoza Baptiste. His maternal
line is from Pico and paternal from Sao Jorge. His Gedmatch # is T362726. His
mother is U5a and his Y is E-M183.

My kit # is T 235110 and my sister's is T775558

My brother, Brad Baptiste is also tested at FTDNA however, I haven't uploaded
him to Gedmatch yet.

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Haplogroup V (mtDNA)

Would love to hear from anyone else whose direct maternal line runs through the
Azores and whose mtDNA tests as haplogroup V.

>From what I am reading, V is spread out across Europe at low levels, except
>for accounting for over 50% of the Sami people ("Lapps") and around 19% of the
>Cantabrian people in Spain. (If I recall correctly, Basques have a lower
>percentage than Sami and Cantabrians, but still higher than average...)

And I've seen genetic studies of the Azores where the overall prevalence of V
thrpughout the archipelago is similar to that around most of Europe -- but also
one study that says that its prevalence in the Western group of the Azores is
33% (which would apparently be the highest rate in the world other than among
the Sami), and that it's the most heavily represented haplogroup in the Western
group.

My earliest known ancestor in my direct maternal line lived on Flores, so she
forms part of this pattern for V in the Western group. I'm interested in
trying to set up a database for Azoreans and Azorean-descendants who fall into
V, to see if we can construct a tree back to one or more identifiable "mothers"
of V who brought the haplogroup to the Azores and to whom (or to one of whom)
all Azorean Vs can trace their direct maternal lines.
