Bill, my Grandfather “chose” the Viera name at marriage. He is the only Viera

There is also a Book of Chaves from Santa Maria which I purchased a few years
ago with someone’s help obtaining and shipping to me. Not expensive.
I gave it to my nephew’s wife who’s is from the Chaves family and who was born
on Santa Maria.

It does NOT cover 100% of the families of Sao Miguel and Santa Maria
islands. However, if you work you lines back far enough, you will tie into
Al, you mention that you found some books on Santa Maria and Sao Miguel. Can
you tell us what those were?

series of books on the genealogies of Terceira island. Those might be helpful
to you. They’re in the family history Library.
