Thanks Greg for the suggestion on what to check.
However, I just checked my Apache php implementation with a test php file from
the Arch Linux Apache page
(https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Apache_HTTP_Server) and it appears to
work fine. Could there be something weird going on in the
Apache is not reading the .php files as php, but text.
